I love my Surface! Having true multitasking, file management, Office, and a full size usb is amazing.

I think i'll be getting a touch cover with mine for 3 reasons - 1) typing on the screen means you can't see half the screen 2) a keyboard means you don't have to look down at a flat tablet (all you see is reflections of ceiling lights if you do that) 3) i don't need a keyboard all the time so would much rather have the thinner/lighter/integrated keyboard.

I like the fact that he brought out the good points in all the tablet OSs instead of beating any down.

I want a surface pro. The ability to have a full office suite after having to use Docs 2 Go integrated into Microsoft Office will be a breath of fresh air.

I think you cannot install typical software on surface RT cuz it uses arm-based cpu. But you can install on pro version cuz it will use i5 core 3rd gen.

I'm Using Windows 8 Dev Preview on my laptop and honestly it's amazing. The split screen feature is something I've been using constantly, and everything runs buttery smooth. Can't wait to use Windows 8 on a tablet.

Yes, I'm a Surface owner myself. I also have an iPad2 and an Acer Iconia A500 Android Tab running ICS. Internet Explorer 10 beats all other browsers hands-down! It's so fluid and responsive, loads up flash videos great.. overall an amazing browsing experience. I installed Chrome on my Android Tablet and you would think that Google would get their own browser right on their own platform! It's a piece of crap! Having more than 1 tab open is useless because all other tabs start crashing!

apparently you are confused too. RT will only run apps from the windows store. That is, it runs apps that are written and compiled for ARM processors. Windows 8 (home premium OR pro, doesn't matter) will run all the programs that you have used in the past on windows 7, vista, or xp PLUS all the programs in the windows store.

Brandon, the touch cover is pressure sensitive... Try placing your hand over the cover without actually typing like you would on a regular keyboard... I know still feels like typing on a touch screen, but you can relax and your hands over it without worrying that it's gonna type random stuff.

The type cover makes more sense because its a pain to take a tab from viewing angle and "try" to type on the same screen your doing work on. He did seem to understand their pressure sensitive so you can rest your hands on it like a normal keyboard. I tried on out and the multi touch pad works surprisingly good for a mouse and there was no learning curve for me in the keyboard you just have to remember it works like normal keyboard (not a capacitive screen) and let your muscle memory take control

and you have usb slot for external hard drives, using a usb extender, you can have 4 usb ports + sdxc card, that's plenty of storage options. Let's not forget skydrive.

Surface looks like it would be a great fit for my needs as I've decided remoting into my All-in-one PC to occasionally run desktop applications other than Office will be more than sufficient. The one thing that Surface Pro has going for it is the stylus so I might be waiting a few more months until that arrives.

I don't know of any mobile devices made in recent years that can't be used while charging. No company would make a device that it useless for hours at a time while it charges. It used to be advised that devices should be turned off while charging, but modern rechargable batteries are more versatile than ones from 10-15 year ago.

  • @MiningBlock
    @MiningBlock 11 ปีที่แล้ว

i agree, and if the device does not have flash, it should have a way of obtaining it like for example the nexus 10 doesn't have flash, what do you do? install boat browser and install flash, done.

I've actually had the windows 8 developer preview installed on my old Asus eeepc that has like 256 or 500mb of ram and it actually ran faster than my windows 7 desktop. The thing with windows 8 is that its meant to be more memory efficient and therefore faster.

I freaking love this, completely surprised with it, the only thing is that i don't really know how many apps there are going to be for it. Also, in the video the screen had a white thingy, and I was like "clean the screen, clean the screen, oh c,mon clean the screen!" It was driving me crazy! Other than that, awesome video and awesome tablet!

The desktop is for managing files. Imagine sorting through gigs and gigs of data on an external HD without it. See, because the Surface has a USB port, you can plug in thumb drives and hard drives, and you'll want the classic file explorer to find what you're looking for.

The desktop app might seem pointless on RT but I understand why its there, even on RT. On Windows 8 it, of course, functions like DOS-mode did on Windows 98: it's there to use legacy apps. Right now there is no modern UI version of Office so right now even Windows RT benefits from having a desktop. On top of that the modern UI is new and not as fleshed out as the good old desktop. So the desktop includes many advanced functions that arent available in the new UI yet.

The reason for RT is because of ARM processors. ARM processors are better on battery and cheaper than putting a x86 processor into a tablet. ARM processors can not run x86 programs, so it has nothing to do with Microsoft not letting you do it. The processors are the reasoning for it.

My Laptop has a 60Gb SSD boot drive which with just an OS and Office 2007 installed was left with 21Gb free so I had to ask about Surface before I'd consider buying.

honestly, probably not yet, if you're buying a laptop, buy a laptop and not a tablet. If you're looking for a good laptop I'd recommend a mac, they're durable but pricy, If you're not doing any heavy duty work get the macbook air. On the other hand, if you are going to do heavy duty work, go ahead and get a PC, for a similar price to a mac you will get better specs, IF you already have a desktop, then you (could) go buy a tablet and do PC stuff on your desktop.
