One Note has a similar input mode that can be used on modern 2-in-1s. The input can be set to "pen only" so it will ignore any touch input whilst the pen is close to the screen, making handwriting so much easier

Most Linux distros still support the pen! I had a similar tablet PC to this, albeit a year older and with a 1.7GHz processor and 2GB RAM. That could actually load a TH-cam video at 480p, surprisingly. For pressure sensitivity on XP, Artrage is a good option. On Linux, I used MyPaint and Krita.

3:30 This is actually a PCMCIA slot (PC Card). Expresscard is either thinner than PCMCIA cards (34mm) or the same thickness (54 mm) with a cutout at the back. PCMCIA was the first and primary version for PC cards through the 90's, up until around 2007, when Expresscard became more common.

I own two of these tablets, A 1 GHz and a 1.2 GHz model and the docking station for it. They are really neat devices and are especially useful for running software that doesn't work correctly on anything higher than Windows XP while using little room.
My 1.2 GHz unit I upgraded to its max of 2 GBs of memory, There is an internal SODIMM slot which has 256 mbs of ram installed but it requires taking the tablet apart. Additionally I used an M.2 SATA to IDE adapter which makes it quite snappy. Genuinely they are neat tablets for me to toy around with.
Also, id recommend if you do open up the tablet, its a bit of a pain in the rear but you should probably redo the thermal paste for the CPU and chipset. There is official HP documentation on full disassembly and service of this tablet floating about which I have a copy of.

I just want to let you know, that it was a pleasure to watch you review this tablet.
This exact year, while finishing my studies, I found this exact tablet completely disassembled and partialy broken...
That is to say it didn't stop me from making a Frankenstein out of it.
I fixed it and made it work and while I did not have a pen to use it, weirdly enough, a friend lend me a pen from a samsung s9 fe tablet and it did work, so it is compatible with modern wacom pens.
Sadly, I had to leave the tablet on the class I found it on...
Again just a pleasure to relive this experience, It was such a great device, thank you for uploading this

Pretty interesting to see XP in higher DPI, it's definitely unusual and looks weird at some places
I'd be interested in knowing the specs of this device, if there's a way to upgrade its internals to max out its specs and installing a Linux distro with LXDE, I believe it could be usable in 2024!

A boss in my old company wanted these badly so we got 2 units, with keyboard and everything, it was nice to use except when you couple a mid 2000 laptop hdd with Symantec endpoint protection and altiris agent you basically cripple the unit. Other stuff was that one of the device got fried, not a problem with a carepack onsite but the tech had to do 3 exits because he could not resolve the problem, last time he changed even the case and that got the unit fixed.

Microsoft tablet PC was amazing. You could run full Photoshop and have a portable drawing tablet back in the early 2000s. It was clunky, but it worked. You have no idea how revolutionary this was and it took *years* before Apple even launched iPad in 2010. Windows tablet PCs and their manufacturing partners came out as early as 2000 or 2001 with tablet PC features being integrated natively into Windows XP. It's hard not to be a fanboy about this when many art people at the time thought you needed a Mac to do professional design work when Microsoft had tablet PC

I personally think those Windows tablets/2in1 laptops are more powerful and more useful than iPads or Android tablets. They don't have good battery life but they are not as limited in terms of OS and apps compared to ios and android

    • @igor4knezevic
      @igor4knezevic 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

They sure are better than iPads, but the experience is what made iPads and Android tablets popular. Also, with new X Elite I hope the battery life can at least rival iPads. Android is better when it comes to freedom, but more software is optimized for iPads due to popularity, so that’s a bit depressing. But yeah, if Windows 8 UI succeeded, without the standard desktop mode like in W7, but a more touch optimized version, it would’ve also solved the whole Windows on touch screens suck problem

This computer would be highly compatible with "Windows XP Pen Edition," a specialized version of "Win XP", designed for compact tablet computers. This edition demonstrated enhanced capabilities in managing battery life and background processes, while also incorporating a range of tools optimized for touch and pen usage.
However, based on the video demonstration provided by "Frokfrdk," it appears that the device in question may not be running the Pen Edition. This is primarily due to the observed challenges faced by the user in manipulating windows programs and targeting smaller objects within the graphical user interface (GUI). The Pen Edition typically features a more user-friendly GUI specifically tailored for devices with touch and pen capabilities, akin to the tablet mode available in Windows 10 and 11.

For context Wacom uses a technology where electricity isn't required in the Pen, the pen only needs to have a magnetic coil and when it makes contact or comes near the screen the electro magnetic field of the tablet screen makes the pen realise what is happening and that results in the Stroke btw the screen has a layer of electro magnets that react to this, in case of Apple since they were angry that Wacom wouldn't submit to their monopoly business and make the pens work with their tablets so they made the apple pencil which was a very weak pen compared to Wacom's ones mainly cuz it needed charge and thus would one day suddenly stop working and there is no way to fix an apple pencil cuz it was built to be not repairable, the apple pencil despite how good it feels specially to people who have only used them won't ever understand how much they are missing out in windows land and Android land cuz Samsung got that Wacom Collab and all S Pens are basically Wacom based pens which are extremely god tier and most importantly they are free

I recently went back to CS6 because CC was so damn sluggish. The experience is identical for everything I do in PS just more smooth.
Photoshop has changed so very little since I started with CS3.

I remember the early days of TH-cam with flash player, it made a 3.0GHz Pentium 4 sweat. I don't think this had a chance at watching TH-cam when it was new.

I know you probably mean a modern version of this tablet with Windows 10, but i did try and run Windows 10 on my TC1100 and it didnt work, lack of instruction sets, 8.1 works though, but slowly.

I'm practically in love with this tablet, too bad the OS is outdated so I can't connect it to the Internet without risk. I would honestly love if I can find something pretty similar to this without it being old as hell and not lock down system like apple. Basically have freedom over my own stuff though I could just upgrade this tablet, I just don't know if it'll remove any important features if I do, same with changing os

I've got exact model but it slows as hell, 2004 and widescreen is a rare combo, let alone tablet xp, so, naturally i've upgraded to ThinkPad X61 tablet with nice 4:3 screen and low power core 2 duo, upgraded it to windows 10 and it become slows as hell.
