    my #1 rule of thumb:
    "I can be asshole; I can carry a gun; I can't be an asshole WHEN I am carrying a gun!"
    Whenever I am carrying, which is almost always now that we are working from home, I find I am more patient, I let things roll off my back, I let other people go first , etc. because it is not worth shooting someone, getting shot, going to court or jail, or even the hearing damage that might result. I will someone call me names, insult my manhood, call me chicken, etc. and just walk away because non of that stuff will really matter 30 minutes later anyway.
    Oddly enough, since I started carrying decades ago, I became more and more like this even when I am not carrying the gun. You learn discipline because the stakes get a lot higher, so carrying has helped my mature and raised my chill (or maybe I just got old!).
    :)
    great video!

      Ain’t that the truth bro ???? It’s like having your first born ..... kinda .... stakes changed ... act different when you’re out and about , more responsibilities, more things that you are personally always looking out for , and more things , for some reason , you know that you will protect ....those who need it. I personally seen someone’s life get taken in front of me before I was a teen , and now I swear I will protect anyone , don’t care age , sex , race , or religion, before it happens in front of me again . Switching magazines every time you're getting in and out of the car while appendix carrying is just asking for problems. Unholstering and reholstering is when people shoot themselves accidentally the most. Like you said, carry the right gun with the right gear so that gun is not having to be messed any more than necessary while in public.

    My 2 cents... I was taught from a very very young age. Never pull a weapon unless you're going to use it. Ever. If you pull a gun and hesitate, that gives your potential threat the time to pull a weapon also. Drawing a weapon isn't a threat or a warning, it's a last resort that you should not abuse and not utilize til absolutely necessary.

      @Altonahk 6 ปีที่แล้ว +45

      Statistics disagree with you. You should never pull unless your wiling yo use it, and believe you would be justified. But statistics sow that the overwhelming majority of times firearms are successfully used, no shots are fired. Train yourself to win in the courtroom. It breaks my heart when I read stories about people applying their training, and going to jail for attempted murder, or actual murder, because their training wasn't informed by laws. It is better to be judged by 12 then carried by 6, but its also better to sleep with your spouse than sleep with big-bubba.

    • @bkg1209
      @bkg1209 6 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      Altonahk The best training is training done with knowledge of laws in one owns jurisdiction. In my state, if you are threatened IN PUBLIC, you are expected to "pursue every avenue of escape" prior to utilizing deadly force. So basically, if I attempt to flee and I am unsuccessful and the threat pursues me, I will draw my weapon and I will fire. But I won't draw my weapon and not fire it. If I point, I shoot. Period.

    Hello Nick! Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge with us brother. I'm retired military. Retired out of Grand Forks AFB ND back in 2012. We moved down to Tampa Florida that year and have lived in the sunny state since then. Never owned a firearm until recently given current events in the "real world." I received my concealed carry in the mail the other day so now I'm legal to carry concealed. GOD BLESS AMERICA! ;)
    Process was not as painful as I thought it was going to be. It did help that I am a veteran. I'm embarrassed to admit though that carrying a firearm is a bit intimidating/carry for the fact of the amount of responsibility that one must shoulder when carrying a firearm. I only ever carried/fired an M16A2 during my time in the service. Never carried the 9MM/fried. Bought my self a pre-owned S&W 9mm and a newTaurus G2 9mm . Have fired them both and I must say, in my personal opinion, the Taurus is the easiest /most comfortable of them both. Thanks again Nick for your videos. I will be looking into a tactical firearm course here in Tampa. Let me know if you know of any that you can recommend. ;)

      I know it is possible to own firearms in the UK but it is very challenging to get the legal papers to do so.
      My family is from Germany and the UK, I still have cousins their. Most of them think I am crazy that I leave the house with a gun, but they have more crime per capita to deal with. I hope that one day soon you can carry in the UK if you choose to. Thanks for leaving a positive comment for the rest of us across the Atlantic!
      Cheers from Colorado 😎

Over road rage or any stupid thing, just yesterday I saw a guy pulling out a gun on a TH-camr because he was taking a video of him leaving a shopping car on the curb! Like seriously before owning a gun and carrying it, evaluate your mental health if you have anger issues address them before gun ownership. Great video man keep it up.

      best advice i can give you is to be very careful and do not think because you have a gun you are suddenly a tough guy, that's how people get into trouble, good luck

      Just be sure to try out the grips on several handguns and pick the one you are most comfortable with. Don't let someone talk you into a pistol you are not comfortable with.

      Went in asking for a handgun safe the other day. I didn’t even finish saying “handgun” till he scowled and said NO. The asshole was behind the rifle counter.

    Awesome Video! Where do you put your gun when taking a dump in a public bathroom stall? Ive walked to a bathroom before and saw a dudes pants around his feet with a gun holstered to them

      Nick Koumalatsos That's another reason to have a holster with a retention clip! If someone tries to yank it out, then it ain't going anywhere :-D

      On the toilet bowl water tank behind you, on the toilet paper dispenser beside you, just not in your pants on the floor.

      I have to admit: I try to get the stall with the wall on my right and just let the gun show if it does. I only carry where I legally can (everywhere around my home state), and i’d rather let my gun hang next to the wall instead of taking the chance of being another person stupidly leaving the gun in a bathroom stall to let someone else find it.
      If open carry is banned, such as 30.07 when I visit the girl’s family in Tx, I just slide my boxers over it while it’s in the holster; it’s concealed enough for me then.
      When you gotta go, you gotta go. I’d rather get kicked out of somewhere for being a responsible concealed carrier instead of taking the risk of a child or psychopath getting my gun because I was paranoid about having someone see it.

    Hi Nick, thanks for the beginner videos. I have my concealed weapons permit but it's been so long since I've practiced. I don't know if I should take the course again or just practice at the range. I don't carry my gun because I haven't shot it in like 4 years and I'm not confident. What do you suggest? Are there refresher courses out there?
