    6 years later… I recently bought a pair of the Wharfdale Diamond 225 with a Dayton Audio HTA-200 amp and am really enjoying it. An amazing combination for about $650! Love it.

    I own one year Wharfedale 225 paired with Yamaha a-s 701.The bass response is unbelievable and the mid's are very sweet.No ear fatigue at all.Very very happy!

      Topping MX3
      If you want small size but great sound and an all in one solution, optical, digital, USB ,RCA, Bluetooth, sub out, DAC, Headphone out
      Can't be beat for the price, sound and versatility
      Or if you want to go Tubes but a bit more expensive but still possibly the best bang for buck tube amp available right now
      Gemtune Appj p1501a
      You could also pair the Topping MX3 up with a cheap Tube pre buffer later on if you wanted to get a taste of tube sound, these little amps combined with tube buffers can sound fantastic together.
      Hope this helps, enjoy 🤘🤪

    225`s will give more low end but you lose the midrange magic of the 220. I hardwired the biamp connectors and put washers spacing the bottom plate with a bit more gap.Very pleased with the low end compared to stock. I use sub also if I need more low.

    Bass can sound slow only when bass reflex interact with the room i thik.Actually its bass is faster than the restfrequency range with a fast amp, agile and tight. It sounds full and 'heavy' so becomes warm and needs good placement and not an overly warm amp. With a GamuT D200 was superfast indeed, specially the bass nd more than 40cm from rear. Only thing i would ask is a more refined low midrange.. but its a budget spk, and a special one :-)

      I currently have Kef Q700 ... which are good, but I find too big.
      So my first bet is that the sound tests I heard on TH-cam are good enough to judge them ...
      My second bet is that they will be as good as the Kef (mainly because I listen in the main room of my flat which is about 22m2) without any specific sound trap, and I mainly listen to Vocals, Jazz or Lounge music (never rock) ... then we will see, I'll sell the Kefs ... or not !
      I'll let you know :-)

    • @jgdaprem
      @jgdaprem 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi there !
      I just received the Diamonds 220 this morning ... AMAZING SOUND !!
      For that size and finish, they can really compete with the Kef Q700 which were ... only 7 times more expensive ...
      I got a real bargain for 185€ only, they are at least worth 600€ or more to me ...
      Then I officially give you a 100% mark for your great review :-)

    • @TechRoadTrip
      @TechRoadTrip  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi. Super glad you like them. When I was reviewing these I spent with them more time than usually I spent with other speakers I review and when I always came back to them they surprised me how good they sound for the money. They can definitely in some aspects compete with as you are saying 600 Euros and even more expensive speakers, I guarantee that :) Thanks again for your feedback. You'll see after some more hours, weeks... they will open up even more. Enjoy them.

    Hi,
    very nice video, thanks.
    But I was planning to buy this speakers actually their big brother 225 but at the end you mentioned that are not good for rock/hard rock music that's my music..I already have Wharfedale Maxima speakers for more than ten years and they are good but do you think that those Diamond 220 or 225 could be better. What do you think about Monitor Audio Bronze 2 speakers are they more suitable for rock music,
    thanks

    • @TechRoadTrip
      @TechRoadTrip  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. Thanks. I believe Diamond 220 or 225 will sound better then Maxima. I haven't hear the Bronze 2 personally but seems they will suit better to your kind of music. It all also depends on the pairing as always. For rock music you need not just dynamics and the lowend but the bass needs to be fast...

    • @Lepotadneva
      @Lepotadneva 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi,
      thanks for your answer I tried Elac B6 speakers which has a lot of bass but they are without dynamics bass is good for rock music but mid range is cut off so Wharfedale Maxima after all this years are much better, yes I will see which one but as I am Wharfedale fan probably Diamonds 225 will replace my Maxima because I don't have a chance to try Bronze 2 speakers, but anyway, thanks

    • @TechRoadTrip
      @TechRoadTrip  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think if you go for 225s you will not be disappointed. If you can play and perfect the right placement of the speakers in your room and give them agile amp with fast dynamics they will be amazing even for your hard rock music especially considering the price of these.

    Hi, i have an old AV Receiver (NAD T763) would these pair up nicely? the receiver pushes 110 watts into each of the 6 channels. Also would the bass/lows for faster music such as rock/RNB/HIP HOP be better if i also added a subwoofer such as the Wharfedale Diamond SW150?

    For a desktop setup, in a 13x13 ft room, Diamond 220 vs 225? I'd go for the 225s, but they would be 6" from the wall and I don't want the bass to be "boomy"...

      I was thinking about Arcam but as you mentioned Rotel, the A-12 is really good but If I should decide between A-12 and cx80 I would go for cx80 as I have listened to cx60 and It is a really good amp. I believe the intention to a clarity of cx80 will go along with the Wharfedale well, plus cx80 has the power and is greatly equipped. Marantz I woudl leave behind for now in this in comparisons of those mentioned and to match these speakers. Subjective,sure but I hope it helped...

      Hi. Definitely not these unless you would use these with a sub. I don't know your budget but for your kind of music most KEF's or B&W for electronic, bassy music will sound great as for the other genre of music, these are more vocal. middrange focused speakers, smooth sounding if paired correctly.

    I'm generally a fan of Wharfedale and British speakers in general. That said, after giving the Diamond 220 a fair 3-day trial, these are the dullest, most lifeless speakers I have ever owned. They sounded as though they were buried under a pile of wet blankets. I powered them with a Musical Fidelity M3si and a Fisher 400 with the same poor results. I returned them after 3 days.

    • @binhvu5071
      @binhvu5071 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah I felt the same way sound dull and sluggish I almost give up... But after about 40-50 hrs. burn in they start open up and sound clearer better detail and clarity but the bass still thick and slow I listen to mostly jazz, vocal and classical so no problem I'm happy with them

    • @weaselpopper
      @weaselpopper 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I initially was a bit let down out of the box. Took two to three weeks for mine to really start to shine and I used a few burn in sources. I`m thrilled with them now. If your music has no bass these will not artificially add it like so many other speakers. I add a sub when I want to listen with more low end no problem. I bought them knowing how they would be and already had the sub. Their sound is best suited for realistic reproduction of vocals and any stringed instruments.

    • @TechRoadTrip
      @TechRoadTrip  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      My opinion. Purely just an opinion. I might believe it can sound great. The concern I would have are dynamics and overall the power as your amp pushes 30 Watts per channel. But due my experience isn't watt as a watt. Especially comparing old built amps with today's amps. I would try first.

      I was able to strike a great deal On 220's together with the matching WH-D10 subwoofer. Although I mostly listen to music genres like Jazz, pop and some acoustic music, occasionally listening to heavy-bass electronic music I think the combination with a good sub will make the 220's very capable, also in this department.

    • @TechRoadTrip
      @TechRoadTrip  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hola. Lo siento, no hablo español... Overall these are not sensitive too much to other components matching but even that these are quite easy to drive I recommend at least 60w per channel amplifier (amplificador). Ideally 70w, as these speakers like more powerful amplifier. Their dynamics will come alive and extend even more. From the most affordable options I have tried and recommend it would be SMSL Sanskrit 6th and SMSL SA98E. This pairing just worked well and it sounded really good. I also listened to these with Quad Vena and Marantz 8005. Quad Vena lacked the mentioned recommended power but the sound was beautifully balanced and very musical, there was a harmony for sure and I recommend this amp with these speakers. Marantz 8005 sounded good but a bit brighter with these speakers. Hope it helped a bit. If you have already some amp in aim let me know I can tell my opinion on the pairing with these speakers.
