BRIGGS & STRATTON No Spark! Replacing Coil, Points and condenser in old tiller engine.

  • 40 yr old engine quits sparking and now I have to dig into it to find out why. Replacing all the electrical components is easy and cheap and it should last another 40 years.
    BRIGGS & STRATTON engines are used in so many small garden machines and are so reliable an update after so long cannot be complained about.
    I have been self funding and relying on help with all the media equipment needed to keep the channel alive, if you want to help do so by buying me a coffee, this fund is for a computer able to run editing software to improve your viewing experience.
    Thank you.

    Another job well done... almost indestructible those small engines.. B&S, Tecumseh, Kohler. All good little machines. Had a small timber winch years ago, powered bu a late 60's or early 70's Honda.. worked like a charm..until the winch dragged itself apart.. but the engine still works on another winch🙂 Have a great weekend Simon !

      Thank you very much, they should stay great if we keep the nasty fuel of today away from them. Fortunately the real nasty stuff is rare here and I can still get 98. A winch that dragged itself apart, LOL I also have a story about one of those fitted to a mates Landrover, I know an embarrassment to be round someone who drive one but it kept me entertained. Take care.

    Great job Simon, wouldn't have done anything different. I usually have to cleanup the magnet also on the flywheel.
    Those old machines will out live a man or two when taken care of.
    Thanks for sharing and hope your able to get back outside soon. Another cold day here. Be safe and we'll see you on the next one!

      Thanks Michael, it is pretty much a standard service and update on those engines. I did not need to clean the magnets they were clean. Our climate is very dry most of the year I don't find much corrosion even when things are left outside.
      It is Sunday morning and such a nice day I am out the door as soon as I have finished my coffee. Have great day.

    Those older engines are far superior to the newer type, far too much plastic on the new stuff. Great vid.

    Thanks Simon, I think your assumption was correct on the coil but while you are in there replace all components. I just received something from the jungle company while I was watching. Lol

    Enjoyed the video Simon. The flap on a pack of matches was good when setting the gap. I haven't seen a pack of matches in years. Thanks again. Take care. God Bless.

    Howdy Simon- you have much more patience with small engines than I ever had. I could build race engines back in the day but small engines really tried to drive me crazy. Those older Briggs were tough. Hope you’re having a great weekend. God bless

    • @arctic-rebel
      @arctic-rebel  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have been tinkering with engines since I could walk Paul and started on single cylinder engine just like that one back in the day when my father had the most basic of tool boxes and metric did not exist! Race engines, we may have more in common that you realize, I am not finished with racing and really need to to find a way of getting back behind a wheel again. I like the other things I have done but if the opportunities had fallen differently I would have only driven and ridden things to the limit. Anyway back to reality and the Sun is out it is Sunday morning so I wish you all the best and I am off to the forest once more.

    Aaaahhh ... the jungle company! Love it!
    Don't you just love the B&S machines? We have a name for them in SA - Breek en Stukkend! That translates to break and broken... had many a day of fun with them... even to today! My current lawnmower is powered by one... shake, rattle and pop... forever shedding something else... when it isn't over revving it won't start - makes me grey!😁😁

    • @arctic-rebel
      @arctic-rebel  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have always found them to be reliable in the most part if maintained and set correctly, but there are so many that in our day there was and still is a 90% chance whatever you were using was running one. The only machine I own without one is the sawmill everything else has one even the old black mower with 1 million hours on it! The most amazing thing however is how quickly the jungle company has changed my life from near impossible and a hatred of all online companies and the postal service here to I am now getting stuff done and within a day or two. So whilst I don't like the ethics I love the availability and delivery. It has really changed my life. Have a great weekend AJ.

    • @heithdotysadventures7824
      @heithdotysadventures7824 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@arctic-rebel lol 😂. Okay so on the back of that tiller there's a bar that comes out straight bar with some holes in it correct. On that bar there is a spot down the center of it to put a hook. The hook is just a piece of iron that is adjustable in height with a point on one side of it, it is there and designed to be able to pull up and down 4 depth, the deeper the hook goes into the ground the harder the Tiller has to work, essentially it's only there to make sure the machine slows down so it's not pulling through the dirt erratically and it cuts up the material in the machine don't jump around on you

    • @arctic-rebel
      @arctic-rebel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LOL sorry I must be stupid! I know exactly what you mean but thought you were referring to the engine operation lmfao. What a twat I am so funny. I thought the exact same thing and wondered if he has been using it with the wheels on! It is also important for altering depth. I took it just how he gave it to me and once I would have asked but I have seen so many weird and backward things since being here I don't even ask or mention these things anymore. Funny thing about it is in this village I am consider the not so bright one by some which just makes me howl.

      @@arctic-rebel 😄😄😄 . The wheel kit here was a bit different then that set . And I'm sure he definitely uses that one with the wheel on it . I have a pitcher in my head of him fighting the tiller the whole time as it's trying to take off on its own 😄😄😄😄. I'm not that bright to a lot of ppl . They think I'm probably a 40wats but I believe I'm at lest 60 wats maybe 75 .😏😄 .
