Collecting Pine tree's as the Arctic winter ends, can I get them out before the ground thaws?

  • Winter is ending and I need to collect the felled pine tree's for processing on the woodland mills sawmill. The Volvo forwarder has now become essential and has to fast to clear the forest before the ground thaws and we get stuck in a mess.

    I just love to see how you use every inch of practicality to do the most with the least!
    I have a feeling you use more common sense in a second than many others use in a decade... or more!
    Ultimately the machines are helping you save labour... and your back!
    Happy weekend Sarah, Simon... hound, chickens, worms and friends!! Stay safe, warm and free!!
    PS - I need to get there to help... even if it is just to keep your coffee brewing and served!!
    PPS - That's a more than half decent pile of logs you have there! I'm looking forward to the mill getting into action!!

      Thank you my friend, I know you are bias but like it anyway. The machines are amazing and saved every part of me.
      I am very grateful to everyone how allows me to cut, logs in the yard is productive-money in the bank is not.
      Our very best to you and yours, be well and stay free.

    Howdy Simon- at my age l would use the forest trailer for all l could get out of it to save my body, which is the only one l was given and I have to make it last a long time. It’s amazing how much the snow has melted and the forest floor can be seen again. Hope all is well and you have a wonderful summer. Take care and God bless

    As usual Simon you did a great work got the job done, and your still standing an not snivelling about the Back like we do normally 😂 that little diesel is burning about 3. lts an hour so I think it a big win win situation. Glad to see you smiling and getting a win for a change ❤ with all this faster turnaround time the Mrs. will see more of you 😊😊hope it’s a good thing 🤷‍♂️🤣🤣 till text time keep it upwards 😏

      Thanks Brad, I though I had something to moan about but the diesel consumption was really low so all is great. Nothing broke and all is well. It is good to be alive. Have a great weekend.

    You have a log grapple! Next to a mini excavator, that's the one machine I'd like to try. I'd even like to build a wooden manual mechanical one just to pick up branches in the yard. Have a good Spring and Summer.

    • @arctic-rebel
      @arctic-rebel  28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The log grapple and excavator are very similar to operate. I have hundreds of hours in an excavator which made using the grapple easier. Keep going and you will get what you need. Thank you, have a great weekend.

    On your loader do you have auxiliary hydrolic attachments if you do why not make a poor mans graple for the forks easier to hold them whrn taking them off also tow your trailer with your loader use the loader for the hydraulic graple arm may have the power to lift more or change out the hydrolic pump . These are only suggestions subject to availability and dollars which are very hard to come by these days . Awesome channel until the next video be safe enjoy the good days . 😀

    • @arctic-rebel
      @arctic-rebel  28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I have an old grapple but not as good as the forks, also the loader is useless in the forest it is way to heavy and gets stuck in the soft stuff.

    Nice to see you get rid of the snow up there, Simon. I like the tractor trailer with the grapler, it saves you a ton of hard back-breaking work. I am planning to build a grapler to use on my front loader. I hope you have some nice, wårm weather up in Lappland too, here in Drammen we have very warm temperatures, and I love it. On our independence day, the 17th of May, Drammen had the warmest 17th of May ever measured in Norway, with about 25 degrees. We deserve a warm summer after the cold, snowy winter he he. Take care, Simon - I look forward to your next video. Greetings from Norway, best wishes Asle

      Thanks, the summer is very welcome, you are on the sea, do you fish and how is it? The days of breaking my back are long behind me I hope it is very easy with the new forest tractor. I am very grateful. Have a great weekend

      @@arctic-rebel yes I love to fish, and in the summer I love to fish Mackerel. It is a very funny fish to catch, it is very strong and you need to fight to get in in the boat or on the shore. I also fish cod and coalfish. But I also like to go to a lake in the forest and fish trout, and in the river outside Drammen it is possible to catch both salmon and sea-trout, beside pike and perch, like you also catch alot. If you have time one time, go to the famous Salt Stream outside Bodø in Norway, OMG - its a paradise for fieshermen. You get big coalfish on 2-4 kilo almost every time you throw a bait in the water, I been there once three years ago...and it was funny :) . Best wishes from Asle

    It's probably difficult to find a used winch suitable for that crane. But old wire cranes or skidding winches for mounting on the hydraulic lift are more available and often quite cheap. Bigger and better winches too than those small crane mounted ones.

    Exactly..1,5 hours contra 2-2.5 days.. easy pick if you ask me.. no, the crane aren't the most powerful, but the alternative is lifting by your oncey.. as Cpt. Sparrow said🤪 No, take your time, let the great equipment you have in the 2254 and the Forest Trailer do their thing, have a coffee when done and enjoy the fantastic weather.. ( even with the bloomin' bugs) 1.5 hours.. yeah.. that's in and out like a fiddlers elbow compared with the snow machine and your bare hands👍 Have a great weekend my friend, take care and all the best to you and yours👌

    Nice video again. Perhaps a silly question: is it possible you hit yourself with a tree while you operate the crane?

    • @arctic-rebel
      @arctic-rebel  28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, absolutely when you are stood in the way. Logging is dangerous enough without swinging a log into yourself. With a different tractor you can operate the crane from inside the cab. I only have a few hours with this tractor so I am sure my loading will get much better. Thanks.

    How many hours are on the Volvo woods tractor since the last engine rebuild?
    Your hydraulic pump may also be ready for a rebuild.
    If ya use equipment, there is always something that needs fixing.
    The log pile is looking nice!
    Looking forward to the MF rebuilding.

    • @arctic-rebel
      @arctic-rebel  28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I know the history of that tractor from new, it has never been rebuilt. It has always been in private use and has low hours. I could upgrade the pump, but is you weight up the cost against the extra time to fiddle on the larger logs I would have to live to 250 yrs old to get any payback. Thank you and have a great weekend.

    • @acajutla
      @acajutla 28 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      The engine is probably not due for renovation in a long time. Maybe an auxilary hydraulic pump will do the trick. About the gears, it's not uncommon on these models that the linkage between the gear stick and the gear box become worn out. The parts for that are easily available and cheap.
      Don't know if i've said it before, but if you need any manuals on tractors, loaders, forwarders and the like, it's a high probability you can get them for free on maskinistendotnet, after registering. But i guess you probably know about that source already.

    ...trees...plural is not possessive

    • @arctic-rebel
      @arctic-rebel  28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Plural vs possessive word forms are used in entirely different situations. The key distinguishing factor is that non-possessive plural words will not have an apostrophe while most possessive words will have an apostrophe to show possession. A possessive noun usually means the same thing as the object of the noun.
