    The uk motorbility scheme use ohme chargers.
    We did the home survey and drawing.
    3 days later the electrician came out and fitted a teathered ohme charger for £0 under the motorbility scheme.
    Works a treat on our 2024 hyundai kona.
    They installed a small isolation switch in the meter cupboard, and it was all done in 2 hours.

    So glad you opted for Ohme, Nick. I chose Pod Point and it is now 8 months down the line and I am still waiting for them to install our charger! Service has been dismal even although I have supplied them with all the information they asked for. Also they expected me to hire an electrician to lay the cable under the floor to the driveway as they were only prepared to run the cable through my house enclosed in ugly trunking. Also for 8 months, I have been forced to use a standard wall socket to charge my car with the cable going through an open window which makes the room freezing all the time and also is terrible for security, because they have taken so long to fit the charger and I am still waiting. Also they make you pay up front, so they have your money earning interest for them the whole time you are waiting for the charger to be installed. unbelievable service.

      Oh jeez that’s not good! 😞
      Honestly, if that’s true and you’ve been waiting over half a year, in my eyes they have not delivered the service that you have asked for. Put your foot down, phone them up and demand a refund. Oh they can’t? Speak to their manager or supervisor.
      Tell them exactly what you’ve said to me there and with the cold weather, you can’t do it anymore. (Using extra heat in the winter for your house, range for your car etc)
      Regarding your install though, that sounds like it might require extra work which might explain why it would take longer but not 8 months longer...

    Hi Nick, I started watching your channel back in November last year when I decided to trade in my ageing ML, which still drives like new, for an EQA 250+ (with all possible assistance and safety packages as a precaution against imminent old age!). I have enjoyed your well crafted videos greatly and have learnt quite a lot from them, thank you. On the subject of EV chargers one thing that is worth mentioning is solar integration, very useful for those who have solar panels. Unfortunately the Ohme Home Pro does not have this, excellent though it is in all other respects. I've gone for the Simpson & Partners Home 7KW Plus, this looks very neat but it is significantly more expensive than the Ohme. I cannot comment on its use just now as it will be installed in mid March shortly before I collect my new car, looking forward to that!

    I'm surprised they went ahead to do the install without knowing if there was a double pole cut off switch. That was a stipulated requirement when we had a charger installed & we had to wait 3 months for the DNO to come & install one. As I ordered a replacement charger last week (an Ohme because the BP Pulse unit is a piece of junk) I was again asked if there was a double pole cut off installed.

    Interesting Nick, thanks. I'm due to get my charge point installed tomorrow. Like your installation it's being located on the exterior wall next to my meter box. My consumer unit is actually on the inside wall behind the meter box. I was hoping they wouldn't need to go through the wall and they could go into the meter box and if necessary use the existing trunking if required to go through to the consumer unit. Looks like you didn't have to have any cables going through a new hole in the wall?

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ah thanks for watching!
      Yeah it was super interesting to see it all in action. I thought they were going to go to the consumer unit inside but they did the whole thing on the exterior. There’s a separate mini cutoff switch installed right there in the meter box.
      I’m presuming that was probably the easiest thing as it was right next to it. So apart from the holes in the wall for the unit itself and the cabling into the meter box, no other drilling “into the house” needed 🙏

    Great video. So to confirm you don’t have anything going to your consumer unit (fuse box in house)?
    I’m booking an install soon and the charger will be installed right beside my meter with great access but the consumer unit is under the stairs in the middle of the house.
    Looking at this they simply add a fuse near or in the meter box and don’t need to go to the consumer unit?

    Our DNO - National Grid screamed with us over the phone NOT to install anything inside the Electricity Meter Box as others do.
    It's worth noting that it is not illegal but may affect you in the near future.
    We never install anything inside the Electricity Meter Box but install either a new replacement Consumer unit with SPD (Surge Protection Device) and RCBOs or just an EV Fusebox with SPD and Single Pole RCBO with Switched Neutral (as per BS7671 Wiring reg.)
    Also, we do not recommend Ohme but Hypervolt (will be Intelligent Go ready later on this year and Myenergi).

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for messaging! So actually I did some digging on this after my install so hopefully this helps.
      Officially speaking, the NICEIC (National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting) recommend in an ideal world not to install any additional equipment in a meter cupboard like in my video.
      However as long as it’s done correctly then it will be okay and won’t cause any problems. The main reason being as the cupboard is finite in size, if someone needs to come out update your main cutout fuse, or change your meter, they don’t want to touch someone else’s installation works. Also “technically speaking” drilling an additional hole into it increases the risk of water ingress which is why mine was done through brick right underneath to minimise this and prevent it from happening. For example if one was drilled at the top, this would not be good for when it rains which no one would do for obvious reasons.
      So it can be done, but as long as it’s done correctly. Installations like this can be done for aesthetic reasons or for ease of use depending on the property as we all live in different shapes and sizes of houses, installations can vary a great deal so if you’re not sure or have any concerns speak to the installer who’s installing one for you and they can work with you and install it the way you would like.
      For peace of mind I did receive a certificate a few days later confirming that my install is NICEIC compliant too 🤓

    Hi Nick, I would like another number 11 for your video about charging your car. There is disagreement about the maximum charging of your car. 80%, 100%, every day, once a week. Improper charging could damage your battery or shorten its lifespan. Can't you even give a clear explanation about this?

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Absolutely! I’ll Happily talk about it!
      But it’s a struggle to find the right balance when producing TH-cam videos! Talking for too long on an EV video can be boring so I try to balance things that will be interesting.
      I’ll certainly be covering exactly what you said but saving it for a Tips & Tricks video. Plus I do want to create some more content on Ohme so when I get an EV again I’ll be hopefully creating some stuff at the same time 🤓
      To answer your question now though and this also applies to any Lithium-ion battery, they haven’t changed and have been around for years. So this actually applies to smartphones, laptops and other devices too.
      So lithium-ion batteries are “happy” in between 20% and 80% give or take. Yes you can go down to low percentages and yes you can charge your to 100% but it’s best not to leave the battery at those states of changes for long periods of time. So if you go on holiday, don’t leave it plugged in.
      So if you only go to the shops and back each day and only do local driving you may find a fully charged battery won’t actually get very far off 100%. So it would be recommend to only charge to 80% and 100% when you need it on the longer drives.
      You can use the full extent of your battery (that’s what it’s there for) but avoid longer times with the battery fully charged if you can.
      If you have bought an EV, and don’t have home charging I would argue that using the full 100% would be more beneficial as charging to 80% could get in the way of day to day use.

    • @James-po4xt
      @James-po4xt 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nope. Got the reply from Ohme today.
      You have to delete your car from the app before plugging in the 2nd vehicle. Then select make model etc and log into vehicle with your bmw/audi id. Plug in the vehicle and it will then charge as needed. If you don’t delete first it can conflict and you wake up with an uncharged car for work. You have to do this every single time you swap vehicles over. Totally unfit for a multi car household. They say they are looking to fix this but turns out it’s been like it from release.

      Quick question though, is this with using the API (app integration where you sign in).

    Very poor install, the company involved should dragged over the coals, why because installers should not fit any distribution equipment in the meter box. All DNOs disapprove of this tactic because if changes are made to the meter there is insufficient room for potential upgrades to their equipment. efixx did a feature on this very thing.

      All of my videos are independent and free from editorial influence. However in this particular video, I reached out to Ohme to ask about their ChargePoint and they offered to fit one at my home for free in exchange for video content. This is why the video is marked as 'Paid Promotion'.
      Any questions about it please message me 🙏

      @@npoleary I did not see it was a paid promotion if I did I wouldn’t have bothered .. fed up with TH-camrs making content about free stuff they get, prefer to watch real people who have an actual skill using it in the real world with a TH-cam channel not someone who lives off TH-cam and creates content around what they can get .

      Sorry you feel this way, to date this is my first video where I have done this, a banner will have appeared at the top of the video marking it as “paid promotion”.
      TH-cam is my full time job, this is all I do to earn a living. All of my videos are editorial free which means no one tells me how a video should be structured or what to say.
      Of course in this example, the charger was fitted for free this is why it was marked a “Paid Promotion” which I made very clear through TH-cam’s tools.
      There are many Content Creators out there who make content for a living and of course sometimes there can be sponsorships and similar content to help with them earn a living.
      Again sorry if you feel this way! 🥺

      @@npoleary not your fault that’s TH-cam easy to make a living compared to a real job for some , but harder to find working TH-camrs that have real jobs & video it. When TH-cam is your main job it’s hard as it’s geared for you to make content for the algorithm etc etc I wish you well in the future Am afraid someone who just reviews cars unless your a mechanic or have some extra skills like EV , it’s not for me .

      Well you can be rest assured the reviews of cars are not structured that way 🤓
      I’ll be honest, (I want my audience to have full trust in what I do), I may do videos like this again in the future but it’ll be labelled as such. There can be scenarios where I might do something similar for something that fits and something I would buy myself for example like a Tracker for a car or car accessories like dashcams.
      I would not however start covering videos and placing sponsorship posts about VPN’s or anything I wouldn’t believe in. Those videos are annoying and I get that when I watch them. My inbox is flooded with these all week, and I say no to virtually all of them.
      Ohme fit with what I do, I love smart home products, EV’s and cars and their smart capability is why I reached out to them in the first place. More videos coming in the future that won’t be structured this way for you.
      I appreciate you being here on TH-cam on my channel, it means a lot. And I love chatting with people in comments too! I try to reply to them all 🤓
