    Sure wish I hadn’t flatted! Got a chuckle over you guys wondering if it was a fake drop, nope just trying to not ride the tire off! 😂, I actually had plenty of energy left so it was a bummer. Curious though, it’s enlightening to see me riding (Splunk rider to clarify), are my hips rocking too much, I felt great but man I feel like I look horrible?!

    The thing about not riding in the break is that cycling is not that big a sport. You will likely be racing these same guys for years yet, so it helps to build a reputation as a guy who is willing to work. You help someone out this race then you are more likely to get help when you need it.

    Love the videos guys. I've been binge watching during Covid to help fill the void of no racing. One note; that type of rotation (constant) with less than 5 riders is super inefficient. There are basically 2 of you in the wind at all times. Single file with longer pulls would have been better for the 3 of you at the end. This was a big one for the legend Steve Tilford :stevetilford.com/2011/03/17/two-things-that-drive-me-crazy/ -cheers

    That's why people ride hard up hills so they can stay close to the front and if a break goes like it did, they can be in it. Drifting back on hills can save you energy but there is a risk and price to pay for that reward. The sprint was good, I would sprint where the draft is if you do it quickly they wont be able to box you and if they do they will get DQ. You should be Racing Cat 1 or 2 :) that race looked way to easy for you. Move up! and lets see how you do.

    • @petermilsom5638
      @petermilsom5638 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      in some nations (iirc, Australia, but I am sure there are others), folks can nominate themselves to move up categories. In many other nations, you gotta "rise through the ranks", and actually qualify each year to move up a category. Consequence is that in some nations many cat 1 riders would only be cat 2 elsewhere etc. etc. and then you get ageing riders performing not that well, and claiming they are the best in their age group etc. etc. In "qualifying category" nations, you don't get the BS'ers and the folks trading on past glories.
      In short, the requirements to be a rider of varying categories are NOT the same throughout the world, and the standard required to win a race of a particular category also varies between nations.
      Having said all that, a really good rider is still a really good rider, wherever they ride!

      Riding Carbon if you have a team mate in the break you’d want to get on my wheel and get a free ride all the way to the break.

    Do you have a good source to break down the categories of racing? I'm in MN and can't seem to find any competitive road races. I race MTB but I'd like to dip my toe in road as well.

      Garrett Millaway in NorCal there’s a district website that lists all the sanctioned races. Id find out your district website and see if they have a calendar. Good luck!

      Garrett, you might want to start here: www.usacycling.org/events?type=ROAD&state=MN or mcf.usacycling.org/

    And then you come to Europe, want to race with Continental teams so you go into a break and do like 500w turns on the front... R.I.P 😱

      If I recall correctly back in the day all the roads were open except for Fields road and the finish hill. Folks used to get relegated for yellow line violations
