Just letting y'all know that sometimes physical disabilities aren't visible. I have severe arthritis in my back and many joint issues but I look normal (when I don't need my canes that is). I can't walk for long periods of time so I have a handicapped sticker. That I use. I get assholes coming up to me (who, admittedly, mean well) telling me not to park in a handicapped spot. I shouldn't have to tell you what my disability is (especially because you can see my sticker/card). I'm not doing anything illegal so buzz off. Side note: I will give up my parking spot if there's no other accessible parking spots and I see someone with a wheelchair or something else that needs unloaded from a car. They need the space to move around more than I do.
Yeah, I have chronic pain from chronic pancreatitis and ulcerative colitis, and not all disabilities are visible. I look like I'm perfectly healthy, when I'm really not.
PaJanaParty same here, i try not to use the handicapped spots unless it's really necessary- i like to try and let my legs "work". but i have such bad nerve damage in 1 leg, as well as drop foot, it's very difficult to walk "normal" even with my cane. ppl can't see my handicap until they see me walk. i try not to judge others in handicapped spots because not all disabilities are visible. no doubt that some ppl abuse their handicapped placard like it's a front row ticket, and those people usually are assholes. :/
People in wheelchairs already lack some form of independence or mobility (of course some people in wheelchairs can live on their own, but they indeed can't do everything), the last thing they want is people to assume they can't do something or insist they help with something when they don't want it, as independence would be important to many people in wheelchairs. Adults particularly, don't want to feel helpless.
Oh my god lmao I relate to way too many things in this. And I especially love when they're like "oh you know, I have a lot of experience with this! My grandma is in a wheelchair too I know all about it!" jesus christ if you're trying to date me please don't compare me to your grandma
+Ashrith Dubbaka Someone with no legs is disabled but the rest of their body might be healthy i.e. no illness or chronic health condition. For example someone with no lower legs may be less disabled & be able to do more than someone with Crohn's Disease.
+Fresca I am in a wheelchair and I can tell you that I understand that they're only trying to help but this video is meant to show that sometimes it gets too much and it can even be humiliating. Then expressing that can sometimes lead to people calling you things such as "ungrateful" which obviously gets very hurtful
i've had that happen when i fall down and people are trying to be helpful by grabbing my arms or grabbing my crutches and i kind of have to "be mean" and tell them to stop because it's not helping and they could get hurt themselves.
Nicola St Clair I have a question, give me your honest answer; if I were to say,"Hey, I don't know if you want me to push you or not, I just don't want to push you randomly or not offer." would you be offended? bc a friend of mine just had surgery and will be in a wheelchair for a few months.
madison hopp Just simply ask, do you need a push? I think if your friend is going to be new in a wheelchair he/she might need a push in the beginning as it takes a while to learn
+Dat Gina devotee can also just mean an enthusiast or fan so in the case of L.A. devotee it probably just means L.A. enthusiast and doesn't have anything to do with amputees
My boyfriend is paralyzed from the sternum down, so he does need help with some things. He was hit by a car that ran a red light 4 years while on his motorcycle. Everyone automatically assumes he was in the military though. I think that's because his build. But we are very quick to correct! I try to let him be independent where he can be and even where can't really because he got that taken away from him and I know it's hard on him!!! So I stand back until he tells me he needs my help!
Sami86K I respect that. in his situation I would probably be too stubborn to admit I need help. so for him to ask it would be a quite a serious blow. I have my pride too, so he has my respect for asking for help.
Not a disgrace. We don't want them thinking he served when he didn't! Those who served deserve the credit and he didn't! We had an older couple pay for our meal because they thought that! They left before we knew and if we had known then we wouldn't have let them....it should have been reserved for someone who actually did fight for our country!
Sami86K I am so grateful for your attitude.. people who fight for our freedom deserve as much respect as they can get but your boyfriend also deserve respect.. not just for being disabled (and handling it like a true trooper) but also for being accompanied by such a humble and respectful girl.. all the power to you
My mum has been in a wheelchair for +40 years (spinal injury) and she had been cheated on just because her ex husband didn't want to have her "hold him back" and in other words the women he cheated on her with was able to walk and when they divorced he had told her that it was a mistake to marry her because of the wheelchair and that is something that is so disgusting to me, my mum was 40 when she had me, I'm 18 now and I couldn't be prouder of how strong my mum is and I'm glad that she found my dad who doesn't see a woman on a chair he sees my mum for the woman she is, a wheelchair isnt what makes the person, the person is what makes the person
This is why I hate the stigma of handicap parking when someone who can get out of their car isn't "disabled enough" just because my body for once is having a great day why should I be abused if I get out of a car walking instead of my chair? Disabilities come in all different ways, no ones struggle is ever the same.
Ponies On Wheels exactly!! I park in the handicapped spot all the time. I have a brain tumor and an illness which causes me to pass out ALOT. So I have to limit my walking distance. But people can't see that obviously ...frustrating. I get dirty looks all the time
Some of the comments on this video made me feel sick, it's ridiculous, I say well done to buzz feed for making videos that are inclusive. Hate speech isn't acceptable it's 2017 for goodness sake, she is in a wheelchair why do people have to make such disgusting comments it's not okay!
My friend has a prosthetic leg and this one guy from school saw her at Walmart and was following her and trying to start something so she threw her leg and him. I don't think he knew she had a prosthetic because he left hella fast.
Random Question to the wheelchair users, do you have gadgets? Like, I've heard of wheelchairs that can help you stand but I'm asking about things like a grabby claw on a stick to get things while shopping. I walk with a cane and I'm only 5'1" (vertically impaired) and when i'm in the grocery store I will take the handle and hold the base of the cane and raise it up and knock the box of cereal down. When i'm going towards a door i'll stick my cane in front of me and press the automatic button to open the door for me and I don't even need to slow down, i just walk on through. I keep thinking how annoying it must be to be in a wheelchair and have to roll up to the button, push it, back peddle then peddle through the door. Y'all should try a fancy stick or something. Roll up to the door, close enough for it to swing open, take your trusty stick, press the button ahead of you and roll on through.
I have limited mobility, so sometimes I need a wheelchair and sometimes I don't, and I've had people think some miracle from Jesus himself happened when I stand up out of my chair for a sec to get something off a high shelf.
Well I'm a devotee and I don't think I'm a freak! Some like blond hairs some like blue eyes some like big boobs some like stumps ! But what I personally would find freaky is to just be attracted to a person for a single reason and to rub on it every five minutes.
My girlfriend is actually in a chair. I always worry that I've been too much sometimes. Watching this video made me instantly cringe and think "well thank god I've never done anything like in this video." Lol, seriously though, I have to pass this along to my girlfriend. She will get a kick out of this.
This is all so true. But I'm also sometimes able to walk "normally" but still in a lot of pain and I am still disabled and people do judge when I use handicap spaces. You never know what someone is dealing with so you can't judge them. Not all disabilities are visible
as a part time wheelchair user with mobility issues I can totally relate, not even from a dating standpoint but people do try too hard to "help" you, makes you feel so small and helpless sometimes :(

Ugh... Everyone with disabilities (visible or invisible) knows The Sex Question 😒 I tend to turn it around on them: "How do YOU have sex? Are there positions you can't do? Are you good at it?" 😜 xox
I'm having to get a wheelchair to walk long distances (I currently only use a walking frame) and when I get a bit older and go on dates, I think I'm going to stick with the walking frame 😂
wow buzzfeed, Thanks for finally making a video for the 2 of your viewers watching in a wheelchair while trying to maintain an active dating life. sooo relatable
I used to have this friend who had both of his legs amputated, but the funny part was that he wouldn't stop making jokes about it. My favorite one of his was "because I'm disabled I get a bunch of free stuff, guess that means I got a leg up over everyone"
OMG YOU DONT UNDERSTAND HOW MUCH I RELATE TO THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was luckly only in a wheelchair for 1 year (yay medicine) but dating was literal hell

PaJanaParty i feel you i have juvenile arthritis since i was 16, everybody thought i was just a lazy young lady that parked in the hadicapped spot
PaJanaParty I love your profile pic! oh and good luck!
Yeah, I have chronic pain from chronic pancreatitis and ulcerative colitis, and not all disabilities are visible. I look like I'm perfectly healthy, when I'm really not.
PaJanaParty I heard that for arthritis it eases the pain when you're active. It should be obvious that moving around is the hard part.
i hate when people try to stand up for me, no pun intended.
Pyramanager come on pun intended
Pyramanager just trying to be nice. ...don't get all huffy about it #humancompassion

The wheel chair basketball episode
Some people are just trying to help, they don't know any better.
That's why you ask if someone needs help rather than just automatically assuming they need you to help them perform basic tasks.
Amber Renee exactly!
yea but some people are just too shy to accept help
People in wheelchairs already lack some form of independence or mobility (of course some people in wheelchairs can live on their own, but they indeed can't do everything), the last thing they want is people to assume they can't do something or insist they help with something when they don't want it, as independence would be important to many people in wheelchairs. Adults particularly, don't want to feel helpless.
Fresca There's a difference between being patronising and being nice
it's like when I get the '' you're too cute to walk with a cane ''
Bish, my legs didn't choose to be fragil , stfu
if someone said that to me i would've smacked them with my cane
Oh my god lmao I relate to way too many things in this.
And I especially love when they're like "oh you know, I have a lot of experience with this! My grandma is in a wheelchair too I know all about it!" jesus christ if you're trying to date me please don't compare me to your grandma
taylortreasures hell yes!! I've gotten that before.
Hahaha omg wtf!!!!🤣
That's why I'm always thankful for my life every single day, because I'm a healthy man.
Marcos Amparo stop flaunting your privileges
I'm just thankful
+ItsATurtleThing what? How would have no legs be considered healthy?
Marcos Amparo i understood what you meant.. Relax people.
+Ashrith Dubbaka Someone with no legs is disabled but the rest of their body might be healthy i.e. no illness or chronic health condition.
For example someone with no lower legs may be less disabled & be able to do more than someone with Crohn's Disease.

Nicola St Clair I know right! I'm in a wheelchair myself.
i've had that happen when i fall down and people are trying to be helpful by grabbing my arms or grabbing my crutches and i kind of have to "be mean" and tell them to stop because it's not helping and they could get hurt themselves.

when that guy said devotee I just started singing LA devotee😂😂
Mariam Malutiku yeah me too :D but can you pls expilain to me what devotee actually means?
Dat Gina someone that fetishizes amputees.
+Dat Gina devotee can also just mean an enthusiast or fan so in the case of L.A. devotee it probably just means L.A. enthusiast and doesn't have anything to do with amputees
Madam Nena L.A Devotee is a song from Panic! At the Disco 😂

They aren't "just trying to help" they're pitying her. The last thing any disabled person wants is pity.
TheHolderOfTheStory damn right. I work with kids at the local children's rehab hospital and they're sweet and cute as any other little kids
TheHolderOfTheStory It's true, I don't want pity I want to be treated like a normal person, which I am.
Some of the comments on this video made me feel sick, it's ridiculous, I say well done to buzz feed for making videos that are inclusive. Hate speech isn't acceptable it's 2017 for goodness sake, she is in a wheelchair why do people have to make such disgusting comments it's not okay!

Dating people when you're chronically ill is much the same. I relate to this so so much.
It must be wheely hard for them 😩
シャルドベン l e a v e
シャルドベン leave please
シャルドベン BAHAHHAHAHAHAH
"so, what happened to ur feet" OMFG THIS STRUGGLE IS TOO REAL, like idk what happened to ur manners

Haha The guy freaking out on the person parking in the handicap spot is soooooo me. hahaha sooo me.
Yoooooo I'm in this!

The "You go girl" really tickled tf outta me.
This was hilarious!! I'm in a wheelchair and a lot of these things happened to me!! Omg!! Thank you @buzzfeed I died laughing
"You go gurl" Why was that funny xD
I have limited mobility, so sometimes I need a wheelchair and sometimes I don't, and I've had people think some miracle from Jesus himself happened when I stand up out of my chair for a sec to get something off a high shelf.
I feel this on an emotional level 💯. A wheelchair doesn't define you.
"This one's on the house, you're so brave"
her laugh when she got the free drink was so cute haha
That toast at the end 🙌🏻
As someone who is disabled devotee's freak me OUT!!
Amorza same! I would want someone to date me, not my chair 😊
Well I'm a devotee and I don't think I'm a freak! Some like blond hairs some like blue eyes some like big boobs some like stumps ! But what I personally would find freaky is to just be attracted to a person for a single reason and to rub on it every five minutes.
Where do you find those people anyway? I think I never met anyone like that
omfg that guy with the hat kills me. especially when he starts yelling at the illegally parked guy. XD
as a 21 year old woman who uses a wheelchair i can relate to this so much
Honestly, I've never thought about the struggles of dating while in a wheelchair.
Rainbow Hoarder wow are you serious? I would of thrown my drink at him or something. Horrible.
cindynickol Honestly I would've but there was someone in the way so I couldn't
Plot twist: the car guy was disabled but he can still walk
I literally had a wheelchair ad before this video! BAHAHA oh my
omg these skits were put together so well!
Thank you for bringing humor and lighthearted discussion to think topic.
People mean well so we try to be calm about it but it's incredibly annoying to be treated like you need the special treatment. Ahhhhh
This one was actually pretty funny, thanks buzzfeed!
Look like someone broke her ankles in a basketball match
My girlfriend is actually in a chair. I always worry that I've been too much sometimes. Watching this video made me instantly cringe and think "well thank god I've never done anything like in this video." Lol, seriously though, I have to pass this along to my girlfriend. She will get a kick out of this.
Based on the thumbnail I thought this was going to be funny
noreaction it's buzzfeed
it was?
Bridget not really
I have never been in a wheelchair but i can feel their pain with how much they get irritated.
"He sounds facisnating" lolololollol
This is all so true. But I'm also sometimes able to walk "normally" but still in a lot of pain and I am still disabled and people do judge when I use handicap spaces. You never know what someone is dealing with so you can't judge them. Not all disabilities are visible
So glad this video is happening. Sure I'd like to try to help but this makes me realize my boundaries as an able bodied person. Amazing videeooo!
It was so funny when she just started rolling backwards omg
JUST ANOTHER LA DEVOTEE

Twins... I use a wheelchair.... :)
So what happened to your feet?
SO GODDAMN CASUAL LMAO
as a part time wheelchair user with mobility issues I can totally relate, not even from a dating standpoint but people do try too hard to "help" you, makes you feel so small and helpless sometimes :(
"you know what I don't even like this place."
"and he's in a wheelchair" is ever worse than "He/she's gay too". Thank you friends for wanting us to find love but just why
"Ur so brave"
I don't know why people act like people with disabilities are completely useless. They're not. If I interact with someone that is disabled I don't automatically step in and help them, I will only help when they ask for it.
oh the accuracy...
Truly amazing video. It shows that love has no boundaries...
Ugh... Everyone with disabilities (visible or invisible) knows The Sex Question 😒 I tend to turn it around on them: "How do YOU have sex? Are there positions you can't do? Are you good at it?" 😜 xox
Finalluyyy, I can relate to this so much. I was born with one leg and some of these are soooooo trueeee

0:33 LA DEVOTEEEEEEEEEEEE
Just another L.A Devotee!! Panic! reference
"The cruelest of pains is the one least visible," Source: complete spinal cord injury, c6-c7.
This was very relatable
I used to have this friend who had both of his legs amputated, but the funny part was that he wouldn't stop making jokes about it. My favorite one of his was "because I'm disabled I get a bunch of free stuff, guess that means I got a leg up over everyone"
OMG YOU DONT UNDERSTAND HOW MUCH I RELATE TO THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was luckly only in a wheelchair for 1 year (yay medicine) but dating was literal hell
the part about the guy being into her because shes in a wheelchair was really messed up.
Ashly Bryan It happened to me once, but I can't complain, it happened to my friend who is also in a chair and she got touched up by him.
Ashly Bryan Yup
If there's no women into that, I'll never get laid (I have muscular dystrophy).
Can't relate, but still respect
Hrishi Baney good
Having a disability is a pain but it has its perks like skippin the lines at theme parks and my wheelchair put my arms in shape so it's not too bad
