To be honest, I"m disappointed Cut allowed the Stephen / Ashley date to continue after he literally came at her and tried kissing her. That was a straight up violation and this kind of behavior should not be tolerated on Cut. They had an opportunity to set an example and didn't take it... although this is a silly reality show that pushes extremes, safety and respect of the contestants should still be the top priority. It doesn't matter that they met before, she clearly was not comfortable with him kissing her and did not consent to that happening. Ashley deserved much better from the Cut producers.
To be fair they did ask if she was okay and she said yes. They at least showed concern and likely would have acted if she said she wasn't okay with enduring the interaction.

I can't answer that question, but my observation of her throughout the interaction and in the way she left has me leaning towards she was definitely not okay. Even if she was, what he did was 100% wrong and a physical violation. Would have loved to see Cut intervene and not leave it up to the victim to decide what to do on camera.

Everyone has always criticised the structure of the show and said that it would be better if they had to reject themselves, and the one time they try it out it goes even more tits up. One thing is for certain, we need to get Steven and Jessica in a room together, it would be like two toxic AI chatbots.
Honestly, I kinda knew this was bound to happen. I didn't know it would be so unhinged, but still.
But I've always thought it was funny how people want to make The Button into this perfect and wholesome dating show with these suggestions and ideas, when it's absolutely not what the show is about. I've always seen it as less of a dating show and more of a social experiment. It's always gonna have selfishness and awkwardness and someone trying to "cheat" the system (like the blindfold episode) and all that, and that's how it works. It's too idealistic thinking they can get rid of that. In fact, that's exactly hat brings that "trainweck factor" that make us unable to stop watching, no matter how awkward it gets.
That's why I had to laugh at people's disappointment in the previous episodes' comments when Cut tried the different approaches suggested and another batch of problems popped up. The format for this particular video also has its flaws, but that's part of what's fun about it. I'm really glad that Cut listens to the viewers and spices things up and I absolutely love the different approaches, but I wish viewers saw these new ideas not as "fixing the show" but as "making it more entertaining and interesting by shaking things up a little". That's what it's about, after all, entertainment and analysing human behavior
Nah would have been fine if they didn't have people on it as unhinged as Steven and Jessica. Cut did this on purpose so people would react like you and be sorry they ever asked for a less shallow setup.

please, thank you this comment is so much better than the ones ive been seeing in the comments so far. i’ve been endlessly searching for someone with this thought too, its validating for me because thanks to people like stephen in my life, i was genuinely triggered. we can all talk and joke about how much stephen is good at making people uncomfortable thanks to many of us also knowing a “stephen”. a lot of people from my hometown had and still have no boundaries from when i was in high school, i graduated a whole year ago now. its not a long time in the grand scheme of things, but i think others can relate, covid and mental illness has made it three and a half years since i’ve seen many of the people i was supposed to graduate with, and i come from a small town and moved “only two hours” away. so i can only IMAGINE how people native to their side of the country feel. im honestly distraught that they kept him on.

The moment when Stephen kissed Ashley without her consent should have been the moment that Cut stepped in and removed him from the episode. By not stepping in in any substantial way, it continues to normalize that kind of behavior as being relatively unproblematic, and forced Ashley to suffer the consequences.
They asked if ashley needed help, she said she didnt so they didnt intervene at that moment. They asked for consent on their end since they didnt wanna do the same thing that Stephen did they didnt intervene

This wasn’t consensual or the simply peck peck on the cheek “cultural greeting” because she was literally trying to get away and he kept leaning in as she was leaning away.
I don’t know if assaulted is the right word. It very common where I’m from (Italy, Turkey and Morocco) to kiss someone as a greeting, especially if you already know that person. Sometimes we even greet elderly men by kissing their hand and placing the back of their hand on our forehead (Morocco and Turkey). I guess some cultures are more touchy than others, and it seems like he’s a touchy person. It would’ve been assault if he continued to try and kiss her when she had already rejected the first attempt.

However he same , grabbed her tighter during the hug so she couldn’t move, she dodged her head out of the way when he tried to kiss her, he leaned out of his way to try to get her, and she leaned further away to dodge the kiss, which he leaned in even more to do.
That’s not a mutual agreement. She didn’t want him to do that and tried to move , he was holding her and kept coming to her when she was moving.
That’s not okay. That’s not consent. And that’s not a greeting the both were okay with.
