The hole/slots in the bolt body that expose the firing pin spring are there to vent gas down into the magazine rather than back into your face in the event of a case or primer failure.
Recoil is not a function of length, it is almost solely due to weight. You could argue that if all things were equal, a shorter barrel would recoil less, for the same reason that the longer barrel would get more velocity. I have the same rifle, I like it quite a bit. I just put an optic on it finally a couple weeks ago. I was waiting for the Primary Arms GLX 1X to come out as it’s the only prism optic that I know of with enough eye relief to mount in the forward scout position, and I really wanted a prism sight on it. So far I like it and it fits the designs intended use very well.
I have the lefty Ruger GSR scout and have used it since they were first available. Your mistaken about two things. The slots on the bottom of bolt body are for redirection of gases to go down into the magazine, its very much similar to an Mauser 98 design and mud wont be an issue. Also the LC6 trigger is an open trigger design like that of the original Mauser 98, Winchester pre-64, 1903, and M1917. These are far away an much more reliable and field maintained trigger than closed box style types. The Ruger Hawkeye (GSR) has some interesting designs to it that are for reliability and ive had mine perform perfectly in the wet and cold where others have failed.
These are great rifles. Mine likes the Federal Gold Medal Match 168gr but the 175gr is just a little bit more accurate. They take some breaking in but the action gets nice and smooth once it gets some wear.
@@nicks2581 Im from Germany. .350 Legend is a absolute exotic caliber in Europe and expensiv. I have a Ruger Ranch Rifle in .300 Blackout and the even FMJ is more than 1€ per round. 7.62x39 i can get for 0.30€.
@@lukaszimmermann2215 that makes sense then. That is unfortunate as it is a very good round. 350 Legend is actually one of the cheapest centerfire rifle calibers we have here in the states at this point. I can get regular fmj ammo for about the same cost as 5.56 or even 7.62x39. I really like my gunsight scout in 350 legend. It is a great compact hunting rifle.
Try sending an email to Ruger and requesting that they explore the option of a 7.62x39 scout rifle. They already make a mini-14 in 7.62x39 called the mini-30, so they do understand that the round is popular.
I have the 5.56 scout rifle in laminate stock, definitely one of my favorite rifles all around. The m77 rifles have the better quality compared to a Ruger American.
Agreed, I absolutely love mine. I've had all sorts of brands, from Enfield to Sako to Wetherby to CZ and this is, by far the most fun. I usually just plink steel with NATO ball ammo and irons, but I'm always surprised at the accuracy when I put the little Vortex Scout scope on how well she shoots.

Even when I lived in Utah I always wanted a lefty Ruger Gunsite Scout. They really are the epitome of the scout rifle and so compact.
You've had it over a year. What is your overall impression of it now? I thinking of getting one, because it has iron sights.

Perfect its a great firearm for sure

I purchase a new 308 GSR with composite stock and stainless 16.1" barrel. Break reduces kick down to very little. Perfect rifle for all round use.
Not sure what I will use it for
A 7.62x39 Scout would be amazing.
Yes it would
Look up the 350 legend scout if you are interested in an intermediate sized cartridge scout rifle.

Nice rifle for sure
Recoil aint that bad with the laminate version. This rifle is so fun to shoot.
Lam version is sweet

Are they standard 308AR mags or special expensive less useful mags?
Aics mags not standard AR10 more expensive but they work in all rifles that use Aics.Ruger, I believe Howa also and others
The m77 action is far superior to the American action
