@@OnTheScout the paint job is probably why the rifle looks a bit off, but with that aside, it is a pretty well put together scout rifle. maybe getting a stock pouch that can hold 9 rnds instead of 4 can help.
Thanks. Camo is specifically to match the Rocky Mountain high desert AO, no other location. The 4 rounds is because a hunting rifle only fires a few times. I don’t even run the stock riser anymore. I am running a plastic Titan Rest as it is more durable and lighter and spare ammo is just in the belt!
I'm a little late to the party but a little baggie and some purification tablets seem like they'd slip tight in that pouch too. Always a good idea to have that option even if it is unlikely you'll ever need it
You’re really the only person out here showing anything about a scout rifle “loadout” and I think it’s awesome. Your tastes really shine through in the gear you’ve chosen and all I can say is: classy.
@jimbob465 listen, I understand that the scout rifle is the solution to a problem that no longer exists. It’s not practical, or the best tool for just about any situation, but it doesn’t change that I love them. I have my practical guns and realistic gear to go along with them, plus the training and appropriate time spent on becoming proficient with them. But I can’t stop the scout rifle from occupying a significant portion of my brain space at all times.
OMG, a. Puma White Hunter. I bought mine when I was 14 and in Boy Scouts. I’m 73 now and it is still one of my most priceless possessions. Best steel ever made. So good to see someone else carry one.
Saw your comment, had to acknowledge! Had my little Puma over 50 of my 69 yrs., meant to get the Bowie and White Hunter, got too pricey! Glad you treasure yours, nothing like the feel of a good piece of Sambar Stag!!
@@OnTheScout Love the outfit!!! But here in southeast Alaska it rains all the time ( Leather doesn't last very long ) so I have to use Kydex or Nylon belts & holsters..
That's a great rig. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your gun handling. You have developed the reflex to chamber check your firearm every time you unholster it. Nicely done, young man. RESPECT!
Good set up. I know I'm late to the party but wanted to add my 2 cents. If someone has budgetary constraints and can't afford the high quality leather goods you have, an Army surplus store is a decent alternative. The grenade pouches for both the old school LBEs and modern molle gear fit the polymer 10 rd Ruger GSR (AICS) mags and Savage Scout Model 11 mags perfectly. With all the available admin/fist aid/gp pouches available you can get a durable, functional rig for fairly cheap. Hope that helps somebody. Have a good one.
I can't afford to buy a belt rig like this, that's why I got into leather working. I'm able to make similar stuff at quarter of the cost. Well my leather work pays for my hunting, bushcraft, edc addiction lol
Only problem with military surplus is that as you start putting things together you realize it's not really that expensive until you have accumulated several hundred dollars worth of gear.
@SoKy Outdoors I bought a belt, enough grenade pouches for 5 extra mags, a drop leg holster for a pistol, and a couple pistol mag pouches. I'm out $100
I am a long time back woods wanderer - and find the older i get the more, I start looking at more traditional materials. Along with ways to simplify my loadouts & kit - Nice set up & thanks for sharing 🎉
This makes me smile, when I started hunting back in the late 70's I used a hunter brand leather belt and their leather cartridge box (loaded with a few essentials). Also carried my sheath knife and leather ammo loops. I still used a small day pack for the other gear but that leather belt was always on! Walking into the local 7-11 near the hunting zone with my gear belt on was always good for a few laughs...
You have definitely given your kit a lot of thought. This is definitely one of the best "woodcraft" videos that I have seen. Thank you for being "practical" and not "tactical". I'm a big fan of the scout rifle, too.
Thanks your comment on pistol holster flap to protect from snow and dust. I have an inexpensive chest holster thinking Alaskan fishing. It doesn’t have a cover.
The full flap will cost a little in draw speed, but it sure saves a lot on bumps and dents and scratches. A hot beeswax dip would be helpful in wet country. Full saturation of the leather displaces moisture, waterproofs, and helps keep it looking nice.
I would suggest that you carry a water container with nesting metal cup, a poncho, and an IFAK! Sometimes animals don't cooperate and you have to track/trail them for a while which means that you might have a hard time finding your pack because of darkness or sudden foul weather, etc. If these add too much weight, just add a set of suspenders! Thanks for the video!
Good setup. I hunted elk in central Montana for forty years, and I carried a Buck folding hunter, a leather pouch with 16-18 rounds of 30-o6 Springfield, a small pouch with matches in waterproof case, plastic baler twine, some plastic survey ribbon, and no pistol on my belt. The baler twine was useful for holding an animals rear legs open (in timber) to help with gutting. I also carried some absorbent white rags inside my inner-most shirt. Never used a backpack, although I did use a fanny pack, occasionally, if it was really cold with lots of snow.
Love the flat cap. I wore a tweed patchy cap with my camo hunting clothing for my elk hunt last year. Ran across some other hunters who looked at me like I was from Mars. I’m sure they were laughing at me, when they were just as funny to me as I was to them.
Simple, reliable, trustworthy and efficient out school style, i always have a first aid kit of some sort,I don't hunt but a tourniquet would be good as with that belt you could and probably have had one on it.
I like the idea of a dedicated gun belt , this doesn't interfere with using your binos or transition to the rifle for shooting and you can put this over coveralls or jacket , good review
BEST video I've seen that shows the versatility of a belt rig. You hit my needs as I want something for hunting, but would like to be versatile for non-hunting, such as camping, or just being outdoors. Great ideas and direction to accommodate a variety of suiting up with weaopns and what you need to support them. Thanks!
Nice kit. I got my Puma 60+ years ago and love it. Suggestions: load the spare magazine, add a candle to the pouch, and add an SOL large survival blanket. 50+ years ago, in the Army, we always had a poncho on our belt in the back. It felt good in the small of the back and had many uses. Some paracord would be nice too. Good Luck, Rick
Fantastic video! Good to see all that beautiful leather. Thanks for all the information - looking to get into hunting myself, never did as a kid, but I need an escape!

Don was an instructor of mine many years ago at an outdoors skills camp. He's a wealth of knowledge and definitely worth watching. I also run a belt kit for hunting and mine is set up in a similar fashion.
A lot depends on what you are hunting and where. I hunt whitetails in Northwest Georgia. Old age has caught up with me (74) so I have had to change the way I hunt. The packing in on horseback or the long trek through the mountainous area I hunt no longer is an option. But I do have my "hunting belt" ready to go at all times. It's just not as well equipped. It's simply a knife, two speed loaders, and my .357. I wear a light weight outdoor sports vest with numerous pockets for all other essentials. My rifle (Ruger Gunsite Scout) holds 5 rounds and has an 8 round pouch on the stock. The rifle came with a 10 round magazine, but I have not used it in years now. In the vest, I carry another 5 round magazine for it. Since my health issues prevent me from doing much hiking and the probability or running across large predators, my only change on the belt is the absence of the speed loaders for my .357 and the addition of a machete and different handgun and ammo pouch.. When warm weather hiking I carry a Taurus Judge so I have a pouch with dividers for the .410 shells of various shot sizes and the .45 Colt ammo. I really liked your video though. Although we do things slightly differently, we definitely think alike when it comes to practicality and necessity.
I hear you. I'm 70 now and my mule deer and elk hunting has had to change. Something I did teach myself is the gutless method of processing an animal. More work in the field but much less work at home. A folding saw is a must have for me when it comes to dealing with a down animal along with a good length of nylon cordage.
I like to have a blade and side arm set up just like that. That way if you get pinned down by a boar or bear you can use your free hand to grab a sidearm.
great video. You definitely need a knife, handgun, matches, lighters, and extra ammo for the pouch. It is for sure useful in the outdoors or for a hunting trip.
oohhh they're snap caps! lol i fr thought that those were 410 shells and i was thinkin to myself "weird, i've never seen a bolt action scout style rifle that is chambered in 410…" 😬😬😬

Sweet setup, I’d personally add a first aid kit with a needle and thread, chapstick, and gauze, I’d save the other pouch for a ferro rod, lighter and extra ammo. Great video and sweet puma
Good choice in holsters. If you want that gun to protect you, you have to protect the gun. Here are three ideas. I have my belt set up similar. Only I would trade out the position of your revolver and knife. Carry your revolver on your weak side so as not to beat it against the rifle stock. You're not looking to quick draw and you may need to draw that revolver with your weak hand. I wear my knife on my strong side.over the years I learned that I reached for my knife alot more than my revolver. And last, with all that weight that belt could lower you pants to the critical stage. God for what ever reason didn't give me a butt, so I added a pair of suspenders to help hold everything up. Other than that, that is a very good rig there.
1:55 I’d add a second cartridge box kit that rides above the small of the back. Into it I’d place either an emergency poncho & hexamine fire tablets or a Cat3 tourniquet and hexamine fire tablets
I love the belt and setup, especially, the flap holster. I need one those. This is a great video. It reminds me of my sister when I enlisted in the Army years ago. She said I chose the Army because I liked the accessories. 😅
I agree. Full Flap is the way to go for a woods holster that will be on the outside of everything. It may not win the speed drills, but it keeps a lot of trouble on the outside. I've made a few. It's fairly simple on an auto, but the wheelguns can be a trick. Use enough leather, and cut it down. Also, a hot dip in melted beeswax is a great leather treatment.
One suggestion water bottle pouch with water bottle metal and nesting cup that bottle can fit in look at the path finder pathfinder bottle kit or a old school western style canteen

This makes the gun super versatile and it is already super light and handy. If I have the 5.56mm bolt in it I keep it loaded with 55gr gold dots, and with the .22LR bolt I keep it loaded with CCI Velocitors. The sling has a compass on it, and I have a bottle opener for emergency shell extraction paracorded to the sling. I keep a Spyderco endura 4 folding knife on my person, along with a plasma lighter, a tube of chapstick (great multipurpose item), and a spare mag for the 380.
Since you have room for another pouch, I would recommend a second one that holds basic first aid supplies - specifically pads, bandages, at least one tourniquet, and some quickclot or other method of stopping bleeding. Perhaps even a fold-up splint if you have room. I've heard a few horror stories from guys who had to get from the stand to the car bleeding the whole way because their first aid kit was in the vehicle instead of with 'em.
I’m 3 years late but that is a pretty slick belt setup. I like your rifle too, although my eyesight is such that an LPVO works better for me. But I can tell that you’ve put some thought into your choices.

I would hate to come up against this guy in a gun fight, this man is ready for game or human.
Rather a small amount of ammo for a fire fight, especially if there are multiple opponents! Fortunately, elk don't shoot back!
That’s a cool adventure belt for sure! I found this video while doing researching on building my own.
Awesome 👌 your just missing suspenders to your belt, really spreads the load out
👍👍👍👍👍

That is an amazing belt setup.
Thanks,very interesting
Wonderful belt kit
Old school Police speed loaders pouches might fit that extra capacity wheel gun. Can even get them to match I’ve seen tan basket weave not just black
Very cool! I am going to get my local leather shop to make a rig like that for me.
Definitely something I carry with me just not on this belt kit.
I’m 3 years late but that is a pretty slick belt setup. I like your rifle too, although my eyesight is such that an LPVO works better for me. But I can tell that you’ve put some thought into your choices.
I gonna get a belt pouch for mine just started out and that's a heckuvan idea thanks
Love the rain jacket. Brand/model/
Nice. Just need a Pith helmet Old chap and a pewter whiskey flask. Cheers
Classy!
Good solid video. Well presented.
Now that is a AWESOME set pard , Enjoy and stay safe :)
Thoughtful setup here. I was inspired and bought the belt, cartridge box, and holster from Triple K. Excited to put it to use. Thanks for the content and keep it coming. You've got a great POV!
I dig it man. Very dope setup and now I want such a belt. Subbed.
Nice belt setup been looking for a good woods/hunting belt.
