Ah! Another MrRhexx masterpiece! Like all of his videos! And I am especially pleased to see videos on Demon Lord's, and I hopefully presume, Archdevils will be added to the list as well! I just figured that I'd throw in my 2 cents about Baphomet, or at least artwork featuring him, having a historic, and modern, real world presence! Many would erroneously assume that The Baphomet is Satan. The image of Baphomet, with the Goat's head, and hermaphroditic body, is actually symbolic of balance. One arms is raised, with the finger(s) pointing toward the Heavens, the other lowered, pointing toward the earth/ground, you could say even The Underworld. The goat head represents animals, where as the human body represents humanity. All living creatures upon Earth, are one it the other. We have the breasts, representing female, the phallus , or at least the phallic Cadacaues (I'm too lazy to look up the correct spelling at the moment,) and so on, and do forth! The Pentagram (it becomes a Pentacle, when placed inside a circle,) is also a sign balance, the top point of the star, representing The Divine, or the element if Spirit, with the other 4 points representing the four elements, brought to unity by The Divine. It is a symbol of order, and all things that are created, or sustained by order. The Pentagram can also be seen as a symbol of the feminine, as Venus orbits the Sun in a pattern that makes a Pentagram, if you map it's orbit. And Venus is traditionally linked to women.. It being placed upon the brow of a goat, which is close kin to ram's, which are linked to Mars, the planet often linked to men, speaks again of balance and duality! Female and male. The symbolism of balance and duality, is seen all over the icon of The Baphomet, if one is knowledgeable of Traditional mystical symbolism, and willing to take the time to look upon it, in contemplation! Neat stuff!
Good eye. A lot of the symbolism seemed familiar, but I hadn’t given it that much thought. Now that you mention it, the image of one raised armed pointing to heaven, and one pointing down to earth, is an unmistakable reference to The Magician in the Tarot de Marseille, and the “As above, so below.” concept, central to nearly all ‘magic’/occultism/mysticism/alchemy/etc. The Tower of ‘Science’ is much more fitting then, as historically, ‘science’ and ‘medicine’ were *very* vaguely defined, and included alchemy, ‘magic’, astrology, etc. Only in the Enlightenment and Modern era did ‘science’ begin to take on a purely naturalist/materialist definition as today, where previously it was strongly, if not exclusively, associated with more esoteric, mystical concepts. Little to no distinction between astronomy, medicine, chemistry, and ‘the sciences’ (in the modern sense) and astrology, ‘magic’, alchemy, etc was recognized. All students of uncommon ‘knowledge’- dubious or otherwise- were often equally esteemed as ‘educated’ ‘men of learning’. At least as late as ca. 1600, the Queen of England employed the likes of Edward Kelley (if you played Nioh, you’ll know that name- and the real guy was almost as creepy as his video game depiction...), a somewhat (in)famous- and legitimately insane- self-proclaimed ‘magician’ as a trusted advisor- though the exact nature of ‘advice’ he provided the Queen remains a matter of some debate to this day... (Sex. It was totally sex... Queen was thirsty AF...) I don’t know if it was official art, but I remember the video also showed various pentagrams, et al inscribed with Hebrew characters, which would almost certainly refer to Jewish Kabbalah, ‘angelology’, the supposed ‘book of enoch’, etc. Similarly, the goat’s head, inverted pentagram/pentacle, other ‘satanic’ imagery correspond to current day occultism/‘satanism’/et al, which is strongly influenced by Aleister Crowley (as in Black Sabbath’s classic “Mr. Crowley”) and his ‘Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn’- a somewhat ridiculous, but pretty awesome name, you gotta admit. Crowley was in turn strongly influenced by ‘classic’ occultism, particularly cartomancy (‘fortune telling’) and the Tarot de Marseille, and would go on to incorporate Kabbalist and other traditions to produce his own version of the Tarot, commonly known as the ‘Golden Dawn Tarot’, properly the ‘Thoth (something) Deck’, IIRC. Most notably, if not the original source, he was at least responsible for popularizing the aforementioned “As above, so below.” line, directly referencing the Tarot’s ‘Magician’/II Major Arcana. Which will sound familiar to anyone who’s played the ‘SMT: Persona’ games, as they borrow *heavily* from the Tarot, hermeticism, Kabbalah, etc combined with concepts from Jungian Psychiatry. Yes, really. It’s definitely... strange... but somehow it works. Point being, though I would not at all describe myself as a devotee of magic, satanism, occultism, etc, the mythology is quite interesting. Seeing various connections and obscure references buried in the deep lore of whatever fiction is great. Incorporating such inspirations and details makes for a world that really invites you to explore and appreciate the complexities and depth and effort that have gone into it. Overall, it’s the kind of rewarding experience that keeps me coming back for more. Maybe I’m weird. I imagine that the kind of people who are here watching Rhexx’s 25 minute lore video detailing the history of a DnD monster would probably get where I’m coming from, though. Lol. Cheers. 👍
@@KyleJordanGaming I'm just now seeing your comment! It's great! I just couldn't even begin to properly respond to it! Except to say again, that it's great! And, the one thought that sticks with me, is how crazy it is, that there were ritual magicians, in courts and churches, actually summoning angels and demons, and no one seemed to give a damn! Yet! They were snatching women, and in some cases, men, left and right, to falsely accuse them of Witchcraft! I didn't even think of how The Tower of Science would tie in with the real world Baphomet! I was solely speaking on the most common depiction of him. Which I think night have been illustrated from Eliphas Levi! Although I could be wrong! Most of my studies have revolved around Traditional (non-Wiccan) Witchcraft, Traditional Paganism, folklore, Folk Magic, particularly in Europe and The Us, as well as the mythology of some countries. Partially thanks to my ex bf, who claimed to summon and devour (it's a real practice,) devil's, but didn't have the balls to break up with me, in person! 😆 Or at all for that matter! Since you're currently on the topic of the abyss, I think a really cool idea for a (potentially) short video is talking about the 666th layer of the abyss. I really enjoy your content and hope that you continue making awesome videos like these in the future. :D
@@General12th from what i understand its not the last layers its just the furthest explored, the abyss itself is believed to be infinite in its layers. at least im pretty sure thats right
@@cjmarion6350 This is basically correct. The layers are numbered in order of discovery (and escape, so they can actually be documented), they often have nothing to do with any sort of "structure" inherent in the plane. So higher numbers don't necessarily mean deeper, although often is does. The 666th layer is simply the 666th one documented.
I’m not 100% sure but in older editions Tharizdun is supposed to be chained there. I also would love to watch a video about the lowest level documented!
True Story: the layers of the Abyss are numbered in the order that they were discovered, not based on some "depth" hierarchy. There are an infinite number of layers of the abyss, and they connect in infinite ways. Conceiving of them as being "above" or "below" each other is misleading.

2:47 Hey, I know that place... Since the Mythic Odysses of Theros source book was published, there's now a second minotaur deity in the form of Mogis, one of two gods of war on the plane of Theros. I have a feeling these two might get along on occasion, since Mogis is all about violence, though they may butt heads over the methods.
There is also [lawful] evil Sargonnas from old Dragonlance. Now he would clash with both Mogis and Baphomet, for while he is a god of war and vengeance, minotaurs of Krinn honour him as Sargas, avatar of power gained through brute strength and held with honor. I thought the numbering of the layers of the Abyss was arbitrary. The layers are hypothetically infinite, and the known layers have been labeled by the order they are found and identified. This of course makes some layers consistently low in number because they are easier to get to, and efforts have been made to try organizing the layers for mortal understanding, but such efforts have largely been unsuccessful given the truly chaotic nature of the place.

I walked in not knowing a single thing about the background of the adventure, so inspired by World of Warcraft, I created 2 Minotaur, a paladin and a barbarian (both female), friends since childhood. It was curious to see the development. The paladin had to fight against the racist idea of humans accepting a Minotaur as a paladin, but the barbarian had an even worst time fighting for its own free will, with how many clerics of Baphomet tried to mind control and corrupt her throughout the entire campaign. (good thing I was allowed to roll for stats and apply the Minotaur traits over, for as long as it was balanced, and I had a good Will safe thanks to stats. We know barbarians ain't the best when it comes to resist mind control)

a quick note about the use of the pentacle (more commonly known as the pentagram) irl!! it's a common religious symbol that is used in wicca and neopaganism to represent the unity of the elements and the spirit. if you see someone wearing one, they aren't necessarily affiliated with satan :)
A pentacle/pentagram is pointed up, if someone is wearing one pointed up they are likely not satanic. A satanic pentagram is pointed down, and is also represented by a goat's skull. If someone is wearing an upside down one they may not be satanic, but likely are.
I'm gonna check out that video for alternate methods for armor class. I have to admit I've never played DnD, I am a magic the gathering player and I am interested in Tabletop RPGs but, with the way WotC is going I really don't want to get into it. So, I've been wanting to develop my own TRPG for a while, centered on the world of Mystia that I'm currently working on and writing novels for. there was a bunch of different things I didn't like about DnD and armor class was something that I had a hard time wrapping my head around. Something that I was thinking about doing was instead of characters just learning new abilities as they leveled up, they have to buy scrolls, tomes, and grimoires to learn different spells or techniques. what are your thoughts.
Thank you so much for this video, I've seen it 3 or 4 times now. I've been running my party through a homebrew game where they have to face off against all the Demon Lords, and this video saved me for the Baphomet fight
God a big part of me wants to sit down and REALLY put forth the effort to research and create a badass DnD campaign. With crazy twists and connections, interesting NPC's, and force the players to really think about the decisions they have to make. Like Witcher 3, where the choice isnt always perfect but its the lesser evil. Watching this episode got my mind racing on SOOOO many cool ideas. His failed creations that he has left in the maze would be prime territory for very cool unexpected allies. (if the party played their cards right). the arena within the maze would also be so damn fun to create stuff. the story telling seems infinite.
My first encounter with Baphomet in D&D was from way before I played the game, just doing lore research because apparently I have always been like this. It could have been a homebrew wiki, but regardless it had this cool idea that he was the product of the true chaos of the Abyss in that he was gentle and kind and it was Yeenoghu's constant violence against him that drove him mad. Fun stuff.

Queen was thirsty AF...)
I don’t know if it was official art, but I remember the video also showed various pentagrams, et al inscribed with Hebrew characters, which would almost certainly refer to Jewish Kabbalah, ‘angelology’, the supposed ‘book of enoch’, etc.
I have a very general knowledge of Ceremonial/Ritual Magic. Partially thanks to my ex bf, who claimed to summon and devour (it's a real practice,) devil's, but didn't have the balls to break up with me, in person! 😆 Or at all for that matter! Otherwise, my knowledge on the matter is mostly involving the few aspects and practices of it, that are commonly seen in modern Witchcraft practices. It's an interesting subject, for sure!
Yeah historically Satan was depicted as a dragon or wyvern
Since you're currently on the topic of the abyss, I think a really cool idea for a (potentially) short video is talking about the 666th layer of the abyss. I really enjoy your content and hope that you continue making awesome videos like these in the future. :D
This! I want to learn about the last and darkest layers especially, but all the Abyss is glorious!
@@PaulGuy thats what i though but i didnt want to assert something as fact when i wasnt sure
I’m not 100% sure but in older editions Tharizdun is supposed to be chained there. I also would love to watch a video about the lowest level documented!
Baphomet is perhaps a very scary D&D demon but a very awesome one as well.
Current game we're going to be running is an all religious party so I wonder what my dm will do when I show up with a ranger/cleric of baphomet?
....probably won't allow it as i don't think baphomet can make clerics?
@@lukelblitz3627 In older editions, certain demon princes can have clerics
ranger warlock would be more fitting. go with either noble or hermit and you can be evil aragorn before he was king or something like that
Beastmaster ranger minotaur, right? Pet bull mount named "Taurus"?
Thank you for putting me in one of your videos. I feel honored
My Lord. I didn’t expect to see you here!
How big is ur maze btw? Just wanna know.
Baphomet? More like babymet lol ya big baby
Thanks so much! I am currently writing an homebrew campaign about the abyss and demon lords and your videos help a lot!
Helpful correction: that was not the church of Satan but the Satanic Temple, they are two very different organizations.
Thank you! I see this all the time and it annoys me
I'm running Out of the Abyss right now so this is great! I'd love to see more about Zuggtmoy and Jubilex too.
True Story: the layers of the Abyss are numbered in the order that they were discovered, not based on some "depth" hierarchy. There are an infinite number of layers of the abyss, and they connect in infinite ways. Conceiving of them as being "above" or "below" each other is misleading.
You’re REALLY helping me with my out of the abyss campaign! I wanna learn more about the abyss please! There isn’t much info online about it. Thank you so much!! I’d love to see and appreciate any demon lord stuff honestly
Now I want to play a werewolf minotaur. A COMPLETE BEAST!
No, a Minotaur werebull - whose name is feared throughout the lands: Cow².
what would a minotaur werewolf look like? a mixture of man, wolf and bull? does he have a human form?
Can you hold two curses at the same time or you would die?
I think the first one stops the second one from taking hold. Sort of like a colony of bacteria pushing out a smaller colony of bacteria.
I mean, Shifter with the Barbarian Path of the Beast and you're good to go really.
I'd also like a video on oh-bog-zob.(The former prince of demons.)
Yeenoghu: [Laughter]
Baphomet: “And I took that personally.”
You’ve just made this demon lord this DM’s new favorite monster.
Definitely looking forward to The Pale Night! I'll be DMing a campaign soon and one of my players is fascinated with incorporating her into his backstory. I'm also interested in learning a bit about Balors, it looks as thought they'd have some connection to Baphomet as well. Great channel you have here! :)
The last time I was this early, Gary Gygax was writing Tomb of Horrors
Lolth! The Spider Queen! Araushnee, The Weaver of Fate! She is my favorite Deity and her Children are my most favorite people in D&D!
Yeenogu vs Baphomet campaign is now brewing in the dark maze of my mind
"minotaurs worship Baphomet"
My good minotaurs in my homebrew setting: We don't do that here
Kiri-Jolith
Mielikki or Nobanion might take on good aligned Minotaur worshipers.
The minotaurs who somehow found a spelljammer and know how to correctly use it: You have a moment to talk about our lord and savior.
That wasn't a question, that was a statement.
MY GOD! IM ALWAYS WAITING FOR A NEW VIDEO. THE HYPE IS TOO MUCH.
I saw this video right as I started thinking of a character idea involving Baphomet 😳
This dude and Hircine in elderscrolls are probably best buds
The last confirmed layer of the Abyss is 665 which is a pit where you fall forever.
Interesting.
Been checking every couple of hours for the new video! So psyched
Baphomet likes natural weapons, so he must be a lover of monks
Baphomet: “Look at this weakling cultist, he has no natural weapons.”
Monk Cultist of Baphomet: **Punches a hole through a brick wall**
Baphomet: **Surprised Pikachu Face**
My sis found these videos and tried to show then to me...little did she remember it was me who tried to present these to her years before.
Baphomet is the GOAT, literally
Clever ;)
Was wondering if youd do the genasi, now that you finished the elemental planes?
Happy to see more vids on the demon lords, regardless!!
I'm so glad you gave Pale Night a shout-out... Looking forward to your video on her
0:36 Just wondering is this an actual chant that followers of baphomet used or is it just made up for dnd
Was I the only one who got reminded of Mr.Hyde when the Tower of Science was mentioned? Afterall, Hyde was a beast.
It's definitely a Rhexx video if I'm hearing that the bloodthirsty 20ft tall minotaur built like a brick wall and carrying a Glaive called Heartcleaver....is also an extremely skilled geneticist and master of incredibly complex secret magics.
Asmodeus is the one with Fusion warheads.
Which, I would totally steal from the 9th layer of hell just so I could detonate them on the 600th layer of the abyss.
Me: "Science this you warped demonic minotaur freak."
Asmo: "You could've just asked for them... for a price. 😈"
@@sagesheahan6732 Bare in mind that it was Asmodeus himself who declared the maze was unsolvable, before trapping Baphomet inside... it only took him 10 years to solve it, then he yoinked the entire labyrinth into the Abyss with him!
I'm here just to further encourage you to keep making videos for whatever you're hyped up for at any moment in time. That's how you'll make your best videos, and ultimately, I think that's what we all want.
Intriguing, I always knew there was more to life and i have also been looking for a way to find not only protection but a way to be influential to the human society, wish to do more and give more than i am doing now, always feel like i was born for something greater. .

My favorite deamon lords are Zuggtmoy and her roommate Juiblex.
Every time you drop a video, I get so many ideas for campaigns I want to run.
Another great video another request for dwarves and magic runes please.
Thanks for The setting I have already supported.
Essentually, patron of civilized minotaurs.
this video kind of makes me want to have Baphomet be the BBEG of my next campaign or at least a cult of his followers.
Yeenogu probably started life as an aspect of baphomet created by the first sentient dreams of gnolls
Hello, can you add something about hes relationship with Malar, in case there is any.
In the Forgotten Realms, Yeenoghu and Malar are Baphomet's two greatest enemies
The art in the thumbnail and at 5:30 is not Baphomet, it's the Satyr from the game Oathsworn; Into the Deepwoods, by Shadowborne Games. The artist is Dongjun Lu.
1) so there is not much of a chance for a minotaur iconoclast in faerun? (speaking as a tauren fan here)
2) ji - noghu? shi - noghu? I thought it was pronounced Yee - noghu (as in Yeet - noghu) which makes sound like a yapping hyena...
Baphomet is my absolute favorite demon lord and I had him make an appearance in the past I wish I knew about the Magic of Heartcleaver at the time. I would love to see you follow up with Pale Knight.
Pale Night
Wish the best for you.
Every time, man.
Every time I think I'm learning about something I'll never use, you say ten things about something I barely understand that make me wanna build a campaign around it.
Thanks again.

Still waiting for vampires, mostly how it affects PC when becoming one
Check out the 3rd party source book Grimm hollow campaign guide, they have a fantastic transformation into vampire's as seen from a players perspective, as mostly the base 5e vampire's become DM controlled

Look up the WotC PDF Planeshift: Ixalan. They have a Vampire player race.
Love the lore vids brother...your are the best.
I was one of over 11000 proud backers for Dungeons of Drakenheim it is very well done and all of the extras were more than worth the price...the Dungeon Dudes are killed it.
Fun Fact: In Overlord (the anime that has most of it's stuff based off of dnd) Ulbert Olain Odle, Demiurges creator 8s based off of this
@@m3k569 yeah, Ulbert definitely takes inspiration from the mythic Baphomet due to being a demonic goat-headed spellcaster (plus the relicts he made look like multi-armed Baphomet statuettes).
Finally, people are talking about Overlord with dnd. That show/light novel needs more recognition.
Plus it's Ulbert primary a magic caster.
Literally running a part 2 for my one shot in an hour. The theme is saving farmers from mountain orcs, who are worshipping Baphomet. Perfect timing.
Great video!
Reminds me a LOT about the game I had with friends, table-top, pathfinder "Wrath of the Righteous".
The Baphomet chant would make lovely black metal lyrics. Imagine "death-growling" all that!
I love watching lore videos! Do you have any lore videos about the time lords? I was talking about the concept of not messing around with time magic with the kids yesterday
th-cam.com/video/B2wDhnrAXKk/w-d-xo.html
You mess with time too much and you may get a visit from an inevitable.
Man, if Eliphas Levi could see what people did with his drawings...
I’ll be honest this is legit the first time a monster from dnd has scared me. The fact that this guy has real historical relevance scares me a bit. But I’ve enjoyed using him as a final boss for my players
I just started playing my character who serves Baphomet, and there should be a session today. This couldn’t have been better timing! (And Baphomet might actually make an appearance in the campaign!)
AND pale night?! This keeps getting better, as he’ll eventually become a paladin for her!
Its not about the murder its the journey lol brutal
"It's the friends we made along the way"
Yoooooooo, I'm hecking HYPED for more demon lore m8.
All who likes this video are templars and all who dislike is the pope and his followers XD.
If you don't get the reference then lets just say this demon in real myths was the scapegoat that allowed the pop to essentially destroy the templar order
Personally I’m excited to learn eventually what I didn’t know about Graz’zt.
Regardless this was fascinating, Baphomet definitely didn’t strike me as the scientific type, but hey appearances and even actions are often deceiving.
This is evil!
Poor baby don't look it up then it's simple
you re gay
I hope there’s another video coming about his origin story. I love these kind of secret lore stories about the strongest creatures in the multiverse.
Ad starts and ends at 0:50 to 2:27.
a quick note about the use of the pentacle (more commonly known as the pentagram) irl!! it's a common religious symbol that is used in wicca and neopaganism to represent the unity of the elements and the spirit. if you see someone wearing one, they aren't necessarily affiliated with satan :)
Great stuff! Another well done trip through the lore. Can't wait for Lolth!
@dungeondudes love to see your book here. Right on! @mrrexx sir your are a treasure for the composition of all of these vids. Kudos!

"These hyena intestines make great decorations for my new pair of horns!"
Thank you so much for this video, I've seen it 3 or 4 times now. I've been running my party through a homebrew game where they have to face off against all the Demon Lords, and this video saved me for the Baphomet fight
Baphomet: i have an inescapable maze
Tzeench: challenge accepted
Great video. Baphomet has always been a favorite. You should take a look at Pazuzu
Fun stuff.
Abbys video (you made the next BBEG of my campaign - Demogorgon. Give me the rest man.) What is Graazt, good videos keep it goin
“I’m just excited to see my lord and savior Baphomet. Represented in such glorious Italian stone. I do hope his eyes gaze upon me and that my allegiance is recognized. I dunno. Notice me senpai. Notice me”
I love all your life Videos can’t wait for more! Thanks for all your work! Id like to see a video where you go over all the demon lords briefly and their layers in the abyss
I just wanted to say thanks for all of the great content, brother. It is Dad's a bit of beauty and mystery to a mundane life.
Just fyi, DM Lair streams created an adventure "more blood for baphomet" I think last year. Great labyrinth mechanism and several encounters. Plus is a rare high level (tier 4) adventure module!
5:20-5:56 Goku and Baphomet would be great training buddies. With each being the absolute opposite of one's character compared to the other.
