Driving Lookout Mountain and Wonderland in Laurel Canyon.
======================
Laurel Canyon is a mountainous neighborhood in the Hollywood Hills region of the Santa Monica Mountains, within the Hollywood Hills West district of Los Angeles, California. The main thoroughfare of Laurel Canyon Boulevard connects the neighborhood with the more urbanized parts of Los Angeles to the north and south, between Ventura Boulevard and Hollywood Boulevard.
Laurel Canyon became a nexus of counterculture activity and attitudes in the mid-late 1960s and early 1970s, becoming famous as home to many of L.A.'s rock musicians, such as Cass Elliot of the Mamas & the Papas; Joni Mitchell; Frank Zappa; Jim Morrison of The Doors; Carole King; The Byrds; Gram Parsons; Buffalo Springfield; Canned Heat; John Mayall; members of the band The Eagles; the band Love; Neil Young; Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys as well as James Taylor, Jackson Browne, J. D. Souther, Judee Sill, Linda Ronstadt and Stone Poneys, Ned Doheny, Bonnie Raitt, Harry Nilsson; and Micky Dolenz & Peter Tork of The Monkees. Cass Elliot's home was considered one of Laurel Canyon's biggest party houses with all-night, drug-fueled sleepovers, well attended by the hippest musicians and movie stars of the era.

A lot of good music came out of laurel canyon back in the day.
Yes! It’s been cool learning more about its history. Thanks for watching
Well said ! Jim Morrison and love street !
I do this drive every time I'[m in SoCal. Thanks for taking us with you!
I'm 21 minutes in and i like it so far. I also like that there is no music to drown out the noise from rolling around these roads. Well done.
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed the video!
How can you drive these roads and Not listen to any music!
I just LOVE LA 😍😍There is nothing like it. This brings back fond memories. Hoping things will change for the better.
Glad you enjoyed the video!
This takes me back to my youth when I lived in Laurel Canyon...on Lookout Mt, It still works for me!!!!!!! wonderful!!!!!
No sidewalks, no bikes, no setbacks, no people. Interesting way to live.
Car culture...😮
yes, car culture
If you call that living.
Succha dump...trashcans everywhere...broken road surface from the 50's....ubiquitous square/cube "homes"-they can have it!
Try riding a bike up into those hills. Don’t think so , at least I’m not in that kind of shape. People do walk on these roads but frankly, many of these properties are deceiving in size and offer quiet comfortable country (style) living with actual nature and wildlife surrounding you. The mud in the road is obviously from one of the many storms LA has gotten the last couple of years. The sheer magnitude of roads to repair from recent rain damage is incalculable but I see them out there trying to. The hills are always the last to get repaired. I drive up in these areas all the time. It’s actually quite beautiful, at least to drive through. Some hillside areas more than others but there are many across the LA region. I happen to live in one in the NE pocket near Pasadena. It’s beautiful. Moved here from NYC 20 years ago and I love it.
I used to live at the top of Stanley Hills Dr. So nice to revisit my neighborhood of nearly 30 years. Thx for sharing. So many memories are triggered. ❤
Glad you enjoyed it
were you in the biz??
🎵I'll light the fire, you place the flowers in the vase that you bought today...🎶
ah Joni, saw Graham last summer @ Humprey's San Diego.
For the ppl seen in traffic these are the streets and obstacles they have to endure daily as they go to & from home. Just a Thursday but to me I went sightseeing, how cool is that? And had a nice Sunday drive. Thanks for the ride along, again.
Exactly all the relaxation none of the stress. OMW is doing a service to us
Glad that you enjoyed the drive. It was a nice day and pretty clear for some nice views. ❤
thank you. i probably would never have seen this place without this video. its a nice area.
easy enough to get on a plane or drive there but i would not have a memory like this that i can watch in the future.
Thank you for watching. My first time up in these hills. Found it interesting myself
Thank you for filming these. I love them! Also love how the garbage truck disappears at 31:36. LOL!
lol yah I had to edit this part out because the garbage truck was very slow and I couldn’t pass it 😃 thanks for watching ❤️so glad your enjoying my videos ❤️
Cousins bought a house above Mulholland and the view is spectacular! I love to watch the planes taking off and landing from BUR among other things. It's gorgeous up there and worth the hassle of the winding streets.
The narration was very good. So were the geographical descriptions and history tidbits.
Thank you so much! Appreciate it!
All I hear is quiet.
been up and down that canyon 1000's of times
Ooo do you live in the Hills?
@@Omwvlog i grew up in lake hollywood....just below the hollywood sign. :)
@@mikebreslaw9651 Ooo great area!
It didn't suck 🙂
@@mikebreslaw9651Lake Hollywood is a fab place. Gorgeous MCM homes with lovely views
I love this! I could drive Laurel, Nichols, Coldwater and Benedict Canyon blindfolded. Lived in the Hollywood Hills forn35 years and miss it every day.
Ooo those are nice drives! Thanks for watching
a real visit with narrow back streets and garbage cans and mudslide areas. thank you.
Thank you very much for the ride, bro! Lots of memories come back to life! Had been there forty years ago - best time of my life!
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice and quiet just the way i like it.
Where’s the quiet? Ur gonna hear a lot of cars that r way to close to ur house
@@depressedcat2561 The quiet is when you stfu wtf asked you open your mouth.
Thanks to your dedication, I have the privilege of visiting these places. Thank you and keep up the great work!
Thank you so much!
My favorite cut thru from the valley to downtown, along with Coldwater Canyon. Our son danced across our table at Moonshadows Malibu, stopping the whole house. He was 1 year old. He got a huge round of applause that we never intended, imagine his Mom's surprise. Dad still smiles....
Yah Laurel Canyon definitely is heavily used to cut thru. I do the same! Never been to Moonshadows. But heard of it.
it's swanked at sunset
I would love to visit California.... Thanks for the your really enjoyed it..watching from Scotland 😁
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! Scotland is on my list to visit one day!
For people who don't support a border wall with Mexico, most of these people who think that way have walls themselves. Nope, no desire to live there, travel there or vacation there but did enjoy your video, it's top notch. Thanks omw!
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Hi, there are some migrants here in NYC. Do you have an extra room in your house, by any chance?
I mean, since you don't believe in a border wall, would you volunteer to house any of those people?
@@tomcarl8021 I would let them sleep in my living room before I'd let you sleep in my yard ya loser.
@@tomcarl8021 since you probably don't believe in ab0rtion, will you be willing to adopt all the children who will be put up for adoption? Will you be willing to pay for all their needs?
This is a bit of a tidbit yes. Funnily enough, if you went back in time maybe 50 years - you may not see so much as a single wooden fence around those areas. (old photos and film might be here on YT) but once you get to a horrific mass-murder incident, 'the skippies' (think aggressive hobos dressed like hippies) then the violent 70s drug/porn incidents and finally:
When it became highly valuable hot property where a whole lot of big Disney, radio execs, cashed-out boomers and you can't touch a place up there without proof of 1 million a year income type of place. That's when serious fences became very real walls. Yes, you may be told they are "retaining walls" but that doesn't explain why they're 7ft tall above the ground lol.
It just keeps going!
This brought back memories of the family vacation where we went up what seems to be this exact same drive but because we were lost and took a wrong turn. at least the sort of pre-2000 era homes even look weirdly recognizable too. yes, I suppose it was like at least an hour or more until we got back to wherever we were supposed to go.
Beautiful in its own special Way!. Many thanks!. Rog.Pacific Sunset( LA).
Many thanks Rog!
Thank you for the tour 🎉 read about this place in rock n roll books ! Living in northern California is so different but I appreciate the differences! Excelsior!
We do have the haite ashberry still but it's so dangerous at night time even the cab driver did not want to take me and friends there 😮
So anyone who wants to see the flower power historical locations,go early and exit by night fall 🎉
Very interesting. Thank you so much. I need to be there.
Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching!
And so Convenient!!
Great video…love all your videos…so interesting and entertaining
I'm so glad you're enjoying them! ❤
This is very interesting. I've seen some of these houses, I'm sure, splashed lavishly in the pages of Architectural Digest and the like. I always imagined that the roads (palm lined boulevards, in my imagination) leading to the mansions were equally lavish and picture-perfect. Reality is much more prosaic. While the view over Laurel Canyon is lovely and the lush plantings gorgeous, the road in front of my little anonymous midwestern house is, I think, wider and in better condition, and after reading the Wikipedia article about the Wonderland murders, I believe my neighbors are overall easier to live next to. After this little tour, I'm looking around my digs and counting my blessings! I appreciate this glimpse of Hollywood Hills. Thanks for filming! I'd thoroughly enjoy a narrated version also.
It's surreal to me knowing who drove up that road and what horrifying things happened up there" such a lovely place! Thanks for your time and dedication"!👍😎👍😎✨💜✨💜✨💜✨💜✨💜✨💜✨👌
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!
What horrifying things
@@kaynemccully5266 Did you see Once upon a Time in Hollywood? And the Wonderland Murders, John Holmes was a prime suspect.
@@kaynemccully5266 read Weird Scenes Inside the Canyon by David Mcgowan
Despite being wet and muddy in spots I am glad most these folks survived damage from the recent storms . Trash collection day is a bad time to be driving some of these alley like streets .
I was concerned I might get stuck during this drive because of the storm. But yes! Getting stuck behind the garbage truck wasn’t ideal 😩 I had to wait quite a bit since I couldn’t pass it on the narrow street.
Beautiful place.
It really is!
Obscenely over-built for the land. Lookout below.
Some big cracks in the roads
yah. some maintenance is needed. Thanks for watching!
Heavy rains
Nice video 👌💯🇵🇹
Thank you!
Raised in a large home in the hills above Ciros on the Sunset Strip now my home is on the beach in Costa Rica with no sound of traffic, sirens, airplanes only the sound of birds singing and the waves gently coming ashore and a clean ocean breeze as I swing in my hammock. Which one would you prefer? 🌴😎🌴
Costa Rica on the beach must be amazing to live! I'll have to visit there one day to compare! Thanks for watching!
Great work, California scenery is amazing
Thanks a lot!
If you go to the 30:47 mark in the video, you can see the house where the wonderland murders took place. It's the white house on the right with the tail end of a white car sticking out of the garage.
Great info!
Can't drive home drunk there.😋
omg yah might not make it home! lol
Roads are in horrible conditions
Yah they need maintenance. Thanks for watching!
That certainly was a lot of garbage cans and I was surprised at the condition of the pavement but I guess everyone has to be somewhere, youtube is a learning tool. thumbs up on this one👍
duh, IT'S GARBAGE DAY like everywhere else in the USA.... sheesh!
So weird not seeing one Amazon truck in the video
Ooo good point! Got me thinking how many I've seen during all my drives... not too many i think
Beautiful areas. I would never be able to live on a steep cliff like hill tho, all it takes is too much rain and your neighborhood could slide off the hill. I'd be afraid I'd wake up one day buried in a mudslide
We recently went thru multiple rounds of rainstorms. There were mudslides up in these hills.
Just seen on a second look the Bohemia Cafe does London Fog which if I can find it anywhere is my go to hot drink. Delicious. That bagel looked amazing.
Ooo I think I’ve had a London Fog before and I liked it. It has earl grey in it? The bagel was surprisingly really good!
@Omwvlog it sure is. It vanilla syrup, earl grey and steamed milk. You do know if I watch and see you have one I'd be like dang 🤟💐
Ooo good to know! I love earl grey and have plenty at home
After the rain last year, I had to go through Laurel Canyon from Studio City to Beverly Hills. Whatxa mess ! Rocks fallen down from both sides. Pot holes and broke up pavement all over the canyon. I actually blew a tire . This is always a mess after wet weather.
Hello. Could you please make a video about the area in Los Angeles where, for example, singer Jenna Rain Simmons lives? I am very interested to see and learn more about this area. I would be very grateful to you.
Streets are like alleys.
yes, pretty narrow here
💰💰 That gold house is nice 💰💰
Darn sight more pretty than where I live. These videos make me feel relaxed and happy 😊
On a separate note i think its odd buying an infamous house then getting mad at people stopping by it. Not ideal but par for the course 🤷♀️. Also the song Our House was based off a house in Laurel Canyon that David Nash and Joni Mitchell owned. I think thats sweet.
Ooo I didn't know that! That's pretty cool! Yes. agree it is odd people getting mad at that. They should know that would likely happen people stopping by!
o.k. my children. It's Graham Nash & David Crosby, (of Crosy, Stills & Nash fame), who were both Joni's boy-friends at one time. Neither of them owned that house. It was Joni's, fair and square, bought with her own hard-earned cash. Yours truly, a Baby Boomer and a Canadian!

At 31:00 there is a nice vintage Chevy Corvair Convertible, about a 1965 model I believe.
cool looking car!
Very narrow streets but they are all two-way. Drove in the area a few years ago
yah roads are quite narrow in this area
Good video as usual. Just a question: Do you intend to make a video driving from Los Angeles to Las Vegas? Thanks a lot!!!
Glad you enjoyed it! I've considered doing one. Maybe I'll plan one soon!
hi from Morocco good job 😇
Hello 👋 Thank you!
2:02 there's the classic car at the start of every video!
2:36 that lime green car, what is it? Looks fancy
16:23 caught the Rolls hiding behind the white van
That part from 34:15 to 34:50 is beautiful
The lime green car is the new model corvette. I've been seeing them around a lot lately
@@Omwvlogwow, they look really cool. Btw I love the view at 7:14. That's a million dollar view right there. And 36:15 as well. Also, which areas exactly are we looking at, at 37:37?
any chance you could drive down Harold Way in one of your videos?
Hi! Yes, I'll plan a drive there
Awesome place to live, but why the streets looks so bad?
Good question! A lot of our streets need to be better maintained. Thanks for watching!
I think it comes down to greed and corruption. California is among the highest taxed states in the USA. We unwittingly voted for higher gas tax with the 'promise' that the roads would be fixed with that tax money.
@@JJFlores197 I mean, streets are great in all US, but Hollywood hills. That's just crazy.
I didn’t realize Wonderland/Holmes was in Laurel Canyon.
Yah, a lot of past musicians up in laurel canyon. Thanks for watching!
😀👍
Thank you!
Wish I could live in Laurel Canyon 😢
It's a nice area!
At 30:48 is the Wonderland Murder home on the right.
Oh wow! Thank you for the info!
Christina Applegate grew up down the street.
Oh nice! great actress!
8763 Wonderland is the address of the murder house.

Thanks for watching
As a child of the sixties, involved in the music scene, it breaks my heart to see this beautiful place that represented freedom FROM the establishment become an enclave OF the establishment. What was once "liberals" has evolved to progressives who have taken this beautiful place and made it a ward of the state. The democratic party has tasted the "good life" and embraced it to become a party of power, not deeds. The hypocrisy of the left has evolved from a foundation of peace and love into a foundation of power and lust. Look at ANY politician on the left and you will see a wealthy, power driven shadow of the past. Their care for the disenfranchised has become smoke and mirrors as they have a lust for power. This beautiful, beautiful paradise has become a lair for evil. Gavin Newsom is a wolf in sheep's clothing. Satan IS the great deceiver and has lured the power of the people into the power of the elite..........
Thanks for watching!
Very well said.
i dont wanna life there to be honest. there are so many places in the world cheaper, no neigbours, no noise, no cityscape etc. i always wonder why people actually wanna life there
Yes many beautiful place! We all like different things. ☺️
@@Omwvlog thats true ! :)
I have to drive this once a week to stay sane in this town
It's a quiet drive to get away from the busy noise below
Lovely views. What looks very strange to European eyes is the absence of sidewalks. In Europe you would expect to be able walk around these streets. It seems very strange people are trapped in their homes unless they have a car.
People don't walk in this area. There aren't any stores or shops near by to walk to. Thanks for watching!
Damn those bloody bin men and their trucks! 😁🚚 🇬🇧 🏴
Seriously! lol I had to wait a bit for the trucks to clear! 😭😂
Typo. Dont you mean 10:45 am, not pm.?
oof! Yes!! Thank you for catching it! just changed it! ❤️
What a car-centric hell-scape and traffic prison. There is no place for a pedestrian to walk or a person on a bicycle to ride.
Thanks for watching!
I need to show you some beautiful mountains of TN! I'm sorry, but this is not very pretty. I'm not from this area, though. Thanks for showing us your drive. I know it's beautiful to those that live there.😊
Looks like the roads are in very bad condition ?
the number of dead dying trees is STUNNING VERY SAD
It's the season. The trees will be full of leaves soon.

indeed. Thanks for watching!
A landscaper's nightmare.
all the taxes they must pay and the roads are kept so poorly..no maintenance or new pavement..
yah needs better maintenance
