    I enjoyed the review. I ended up going with the XPS 9315 and selling my M1 air. I needed 16gb ram and Apples memory prices are outrageous. Slower chip but more memory and storage make way more of a difference for my workload. It also came with free accidental damage protection and wireless mouse.

      Hey Jim! Thanks for watching and joining the chat (and for the sub!). The upgrades are what really show how ridiculous Apple's pricing model is. If they were more reasonable it would make their devices much better value but as it is, it just proves that the base models are nothing more than upgrade drivers to get folks where they need to be.

    Jeeze, this has been the most difficult choice for me. I've been using the XPS 9360...(I think that's the number, it came out in 2018 and I got mine in early 2019), and I agree with you to one hundred percent about Dell and their track pads, mine literally feels like it's breaking every time I go to use it (Not to mention screen flicker, finger print scanner not always picking up my print, battery has gone downhill, etc.) So I'm stuck now between the M2 and the 9320, I've been a windows user all of my life, I don't game on my laptop and the only office app I use on a daily basis is Microsoft Word. I'm open to Mac OS because I have an iPhone but truth be told, Android has been calling to me. Any advice Mike?

    • @mikedropstech
      @mikedropstech  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Ryan! Thanks for watching and subscribing buddy! I've always found office apps sync effortlessly on windows so I'm not sure I'd be jumping ship just yet. I know it works on Apple too but I've had a couple of big hiccups with office on MacOS, one of which lost me a ton of files when one drive stopped synching without any warning. I've never had so much as a sneeze with office and windows so I'd probably stay on that side of the fence.
      If Dell hasn't floated your boat I'm a big fan of surface devices from a build quality perspective (and new models coming October), and the new lenovo 9i is getting a lot of love (I dropped a review not too far back) as well as the galaxy book 2 (which could be awesome if you go Samsung on the phone but they only do 16:9 screens on the laptops which I'm not a fan of).

    Best way to overcome the MBA one external monitor limitation is an ultrawide. I use a cheap LG 29" FHD that I bought for $159. Coupled with Magnet, I love the setup. It's like having three monitors when I need it (with the MBA screen) and having extra screen real estate when I don't. Switching back and forth is a simple as a screen shortcut. Eventually, I will probably upgrade to a 34" QHD ultrawide for better resolution but I don't miss multi-monitor support on the Mac. Hopefully, Apple will overcome this limitation sometime soon but until then, this is a great solution.

    • @mikedropstech
      @mikedropstech  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ultrawides are nice. But you’ve gotta get a big one to get the screen height and the pricing jumps up pretty fast. Definitely works, but way more $$$ than a double monitor setup for most people.

    • @Lemonade_Stand_
      @Lemonade_Stand_ ปีที่แล้ว

      We have 32" (or are they 34"?) ultrawide screens at work and i love everything about them EXCEPT they are a pain in the royal ass if you do screen sharing on things like zoom or google hangouts. Everything is super tiny so you have to only share the window you on but then if you are trying to show someone something, since it only shows the current window it doesnt show the pop up windows. For most people this wouldnt be an issue, honestly i just ran into it when i was showing an older person something and it was a real struggle to explain so maybe just dont use wide screens with boomers lol

    Mike, I need some help. I'm entering law school and my undergraduate laptop is very outdated. So, I'm looking for a laptop that'll get me through the next 3 years without any major hiccups. I've been doing my research and I'm stuck between the current XPS 13 and the Air M1 (I think the M2 is not worth a 20% price increase). I'm not a huge fan of MacOS but the computer looks reliable and seems like it will last. I'm not sold on the XPS 13, however, since it's pricier than the M1 overall. Do you think I should just run with the MacBook Air since it's cheaper than the Dell, or am I better off sticking with Windows OS and paying ~$100 more?

    • @mikedropstech
      @mikedropstech  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Man Chris, that's a tough call. They're both nice devices but if you're doing law, I'm guessing it's all Office 365 and MS products so I think sticking with Windows makes more sense as an OS. I'm looking for something with 16Gb of ram hopefully and a decent battery life. If the best thing available means jumping up $200 or whatever as long as it pays off in the long run, then I'll do it. This is something I need to last me several years. Any recommendations? Will be using it for college, little bit of gaming, and its gonna get alot of hours in. Would like to get a machine that lasts a while since I am putting this much money into it, but I know Laptops don't last that long lifespan wise. Thanks for any advince.

      Hey! Thanks for watching buddy! If I were buying a Windows laptop TODAY and couldn't wait, I think I'd go for the Surface Laptop Studio. It's a little thicker than an ultrabook but I was seriously surprised by the power, heat dissipation is awesome and I love the screen even though I'd never fold it down.... I just don't think any other Windows manufacturer has the overall polish that Surface has right now.

      @@mikedropstech I thought you would say the Dell XPS 15

    • @mikedropstech
      @mikedropstech  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I really like the XPS 15 but I move around a lot and just wish it was a little thinner / lighter. I've found 14 ish inches to be my favorite screen size and I love the 3:2 screen ratio so from a personal preference perspective, that limits me.

    the problem with the xps is the battery life

    If you need two screens…use a Mac mini…throw it in your bag and take it to the next place …

    For a Gnu Linux user choice is simpler, buy whatever gives you more freedom, and Crapple scam is not an option.

    Damn after that monitor argument I can't help it but suscribe. As someone that works from home, and is really considering on buying a laptop for job on the go, I deeply HATE apple for what they've done with the monitor limitation, and how I enter the site hopíng to spend around 1000 dollars and leave wanting to spend 2000. It's outrageous

      Dude… that’s how they get you. But if you can stay low end they come out pretty favorably in price comparisons. If you can’t…. We’ll, that’s a different ball game 😱

    I MUCH prefer windows computers but i will most likely be making the jump to apple because of battery life and general longevity.
    I've recently returned to school and i understand why most students use macs - the battery life. Plus everyone i talk to who has and uses mac computers has had it for years, i usually end up replacing my windows laptops every 3 - 4 years. Im hoping if i go for either the m1 or m2 macbook air that ill get atleast 6 or 7 years out of it (basically the duration of my program).
    You get hdmi adapters online that plug into the usb c port to allow it to plug into a large monitor which will be great for home use.

    The Dell xps 13 plus is such a terrible laptop! The constant overheating issues will slow down the computer, Fans will run non-stop like a jet engine, Part of the haptic trackpad will stop working, Battery life is 2-5 hours depending on usage! I highly do not recommend this xps 13 plus model. The regular xps 13 is so much better! The Lenovo yoga 9i & 7i is so much better than the xps 13 plus by a lot!
