This man has to be the most ideal juror. He's smart, open minded, level headed, and patient. I love how some people take on the duty of being on a jury with the seriousness and gravity it deserves.
I've been on jury duty probably five times, and chosen to a jury twice. One thing that always impresses me is that everyone take it very seriously. The "character" & maturity that this young man displays would make any parent proud to call him "son". Great dedication to service and doing due diligence.
I completely agree with the son comment. He is very articulate and took his job seriously. I would be immensely proud if he was my son, regardless of the verdict he rendered. I’m proud this guy understood his role perfectly.
This young man is so well spoken, educated, and took his part so seriously. Beyond impressed. Both sides really chose an exceptional juror. He's just amazing. Great job!
I love the way this jury functioned. The respect they had for each other and the fact that they prayed together is mind blowing. I am so thankful for their example.
I have sat on four juries in my 61 years of life & was about this young man's age when I sat on my first trial. His perspective and articulation is excatly what you want from your fellow jurors. Well done Sir, much respect from here.
It's crazy that otherwise intelligent folks still believe in religion. It's very alarming that the jurors are even allowed to pray with each other rather than focus exclusively on evidence as the law demands.
@@Tormentality I wholly agree. I'm always nervous when I have to have surgery, I've done my best to determine if my surgeon and or anesthesiologist believe that I'd be better off in "heaven" with the punishing skydaddy. Doesn't bode well for sane decision making.

This is an outstanding interview. This young man took his responsibility as a juror very seriously and articulated his experience so well. His description of how the jury worked together, even praying for guidance together, was so inspiring. Thank you for sharing this and allowing us a little peek inside the jury room of this landmark trial.

@@richardlawson6787 Attending the courthouse when you are called is mandatory. Being chosen as one of 16 from 600 in the pool, is either good or bad luck, depending on the case. I was one of 16 out of 300 chosen to hear a trial of a young woman with an IQ of 72 (verified by the prosecutors' testing) who dumbly (see her IQ) spoke to cops without an attorney and admitted to knowing a cousin gave her a bag with coke in the lining. We did out duty, but I guarantee you we cried about her life.
@Edward Your are correct. We watched video of her being Mirandized, and it was clear to me she had no idea what they were telling her. The officer said: You have the right to an attorney, and she said she didn't have one. He said: If you cannot afford one, one will be appointed for you, and she repeated that she didn't have one. If I had been her defense attorney, I would have pushed the jury to understand she was too slow to understand her rights. When she told them she knew about the drugs, she was trying to be honest. But sadly the law said that made her guilty. We cried when we found her guilty, and I believe her cousin was ultimately arrested as well.
@@daisymaisy4877 Actually there are both legal and sketchy ways to get out of being chosen. You can say you have a trip planned, especially out of the US, or that you have a dislike of police. Or you can say you have family members who were falsely arrested and don't trust the system. Many people where I live lie to get out service. I feel it's your duty, but even so, I've been kicked out of the pool several times. Once by a defense attorney who, based on what I could surmise about the case, should have kept me. Her mistake.
He’s chosen to be chosen at random LOL. After that initial random call to be a potential jury member nothing else is random. Each potential juror is asked very concise and somewhat intimate questions that they must answer honestly. The first questions may weed out more than half of the jury pool with very basic questions, the further it goes the more intimate the questions become. Both prosecution and defense must agree on the chosen jurors as well.
What a great interview with this juror. I can’t help thinking that his life is forever changed by everything he had to see regarding such a gruesome crime scene with someone his own age. Bless him.

This juror is very mature and insightful. The fact that he would not allow himself to form an opinion until he had all of the information is commendable and very just. This whole jury strikes me this way. They took their responsibility very seriously, I’ve been very impressed with every one of them. We need a lot more people like these jurors in our country.
I agree wholeheartedly, he's very impressive. So sharp and articulate and a caring and compassionate soul as well. Excellent juror, the mindset one would hope for if they are ever on trial.
There used to be a time in America when a mature person who thinks and speaks reasonably well was seen as nothing unusual and not, "This kid is a future Nobel Prize winner!"
Not only did this young man serve as an exemplary juror in this case, he also did something I don’t think I’ve seen before & honestly didn’t think was possible these days - he united an entire TH-cam comment thread. Every single comment I read was positive, kind. I’m shocked & super impressed!!!!!
We are fortunate to have had several intelligent, thoughtful, dedicated, and responsible people on that jury; thank you for your valuable service, and your sacrifice, James.
As a mom I’m sure all she meant is that MANY 22 year olds are not quite as sophisticated and articulate as this one happens to be. I’m very sure that’s all she was implying.
@@kima260 Well, this kid is as thoughtful and well-spoken as anyone should *expect* a recent college graduate to be. He was probably brought up to understand that he needs to work to earn his keep rather than being given a bag of chips and a video game to keep him quiet.

One of the most compelling interviews with a juror that I’ve ever witnessed. He is an example of what a juror should be. This interview and trial video will be used for years to come. My hometown, and I could never be prouder!
Agreed!! My home is Charleston SC but I am VERY impressed with this young man. I have a 22 yr old son and although he is amazing, I don't know that he could have handled something so dramatic!!!
Agree. This young man is a model human being, insightful, unselfish, and patriotic. Honestly, he warms my heart. God bless him and all the jurors, lawyers, families, everyone affected by this tragedy.
The one thing about this young man, that I have not seen acknowledge yet, is what he said about Maggie and Paul. He spoke about being there and witnessing what happened to them, for them. You could hear and see his empathy for them, his pain and hurt for what had been done to them. What a beautiful example of humanity in this young man.
I wish every juror in every trial was like James. I've served as a juror before and I was horrified at several of my co-jurors, their thought process, and their approach to reaching a verdict so seeing someone like James on such an important trial restores some of my lost faith in our "justice" system. Thank you for your service James!
I agree. I've served on two juries. The first was a cohesive, intelligent, analytical group. On the second, about half the jurors were thoughtless and didn't care whether justice was served. They just wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible. It made me fearful of ever needing a jury to decide my fate.
I am very impressed with the way this young man explains the fairness and the thorough way in which they all came to their decision. Thank you for your service!
This interview is incredible. As someone who watched every single minute of this trial, I still hadn't thought of some of the observations James made. His answers and thought process were deliberate, mindful, well-reasoned, and intelligently articulated. I am so impressed and grateful for his service on that jury.
I kept saying as I was listening to this young man how surprised I am that he is only 22 years old. What a well-spoken, mature, and thoughtful young man. I really enjoyed hearing how he processed this trial, and the critical thinking and thought that he put into everything. He is wise beyond his years for sure. Very impressed by this young man! Job well done!
@Karl with a K: This was not a spontaneous ‘man-on-the-street’ interview, it was a prearranged meeting and didn’t pretend to be anything else. Studio interviews are virtually always pre-orchestrated with the interviewee given time to prepare. Regardless, this man spoke well which is not always the case.
The clarity, maturity, and equanimity of this young man are extraordinary! These traits would be extraordinary for a man at any age. The fact that he's like this and only 22 years old, is absolutely astounding! One could only hope for a juror like this, though it is rarely the case.

I agree he seems like a very valuable member of this jury and I agree with everything he's said as I followed the case very closely. I didn't watch most any of the individual testimony, but if someone could please answer the following: What ever Alex had to gain from their deaths, could it have been accomplished with the death of either the wife or the son or could that gain *only* be accomplished by killing both of them?

But if you think people are incapable of being this articulate or measured, then you need to expand your social circle. I'm married to someone who can speak like this juror.
@Karl with a K I respect your opinion but I don’t think he’s rehearsed. He’s a smart, intelligent young man who is the same ache as Paul was when Paul died. @@ReturnTheSanity I saw this rather differently. I didn't look at this articulate young man as someone looking for clout, and if that wasn't what you meant to imply, I apologize, but I still think it needs to be said. I think that the jury has been widely criticized by many for their decision. My perception is that he's granted interviews to give the public a better understanding the jurors and their thought process. I think he's very effectively dispelling any notions that the jury was a vindictive group of individuals that had it out for the Murdaugh family, jealous of their wealth and power. He puts paid to the notion that this jury was a group I've poor, uneducated dirt farmers. I think it's unfortunate that I have to say that, but I have read comments by others on the pages of different creators who covered this trial. I found those comments offensive, personally. He leaves the impression that the jury took their job very seriously, listened to all of the evidence, and even prayed over their verdict, before coming to their final conclusions. Perhaps I'm naive, I do lake to believe in the best in people until they show me otherwise. But that's just MY opinion!!
I'm so glad that this young man saw through Alex's fake tears. As soon as he blew snot bubbles you could see a change in the woke media. They continue to cover this because I get the feeling they think he is innocent but I saw it like this young man saw it in that Alex mixed truths in with the lies. So proud that someone young like this was able to differentiate this.
@Karl with a K You are doing copy & paste to everyone with that opinion. He is clearly well spoken, its not normal for someone his age but not impossible. A lot to answer for this interview... I notice thats his way to speak and is admirable. ✌🏻

I'd be very interested in seeing an interview with 1 or 2 of the three who were not "guilty" votes initially. It's compounded even more because the evidence was all circumstantial. If I was ever to be a defendant, I would hope my jury would be filled by thoughtful, intelligent people such as this young man. It seems that he truly weighed the evidence and made thoughtful decisions about that which was presented to him.
They took 45 minutes to go over 6 weeks of testimony. They weren't thoughtful at all. They simply didn't like Murdough. There was very obvious reasonable doubt in this trial. The jury chose to ignore it. If I ever have the unfortunate chance of being a defendant in a criminal case I will take a bench trial over an ignorant jury any day.
The jurors thought about the case for 6 weeks I don’t think they can be judged “not thoughtful enough “ because they came back with a decision quickly. They were able to see the whole room and I’m sure the got much more information than we were able to from our limited perspective.
If I had a company I'd hire this guy regardless of training and experience. He will go far in life. What a bright young man! Thank you for your service.

Ma’am, have you ever heard of critical thinking?
Thank you for serving on jury duty! Appreciate the time and attention you gave to this tragic case!
Jury duty is mandatory...not like he had a choice
He had no choice

Bless him.

Go Tigers!
he is such a good representation of who a juror should be. Thank you for this interview.
One of the most intelligent and mature 22 yr olds I’ve ever witnessed. Makes me feel better that he was a juror and glad that he didn’t fall for AM’s lies and manipulation. He’s describing his ways pretty much exact. This young man has gave me hope for the future
I really appreciate James doing this interview and helping us see a little bit of how the jury dealt with the trial. He expresses himself very well and did an outstanding job in explaining what I know was an extremely difficult process the jury members had to go work their way through. James gives me some hope for the future of our country.
Yes and it's very obvious he's not doing it for attention. Taking away someone's freedom is a big deal and I think he wants the public to know it was a big deal to them.
@@CC12398 Agreed!
This young juror is how one should raise a son. Kind, intelligent, thoughtful. Bravo
I don't know you, but I am proud of you, James! The way you and the other jurors served together for the sake of truth and justice honestly gives me hope.

Our system only works because of jurors and this guy is an exemplary example of a juror who took his responsibilities very seriously and was committed to the process and to bringing Justice to Paul and Maggie. Bright young man. Very interesting to hear his experience and insights.
QUESTION:: does ANYONE know what Paul was wearing when killed?? Or what they found him in at crime scene? Particularly shoes and socks…? Sounds weird but I have a reason for asking something still isn’t adding up to me !!!.. not saying Alex is innocent by any means but I believe there is someone or something left out … but any feedback to my question would be greatly appreciated!! Yes, very mature for his age!
@@rcb1717 A lot of questions weren’t answered, nor did they try to. I was sure of his guilt until trial, because all I had was media reports. Seem LE and SLED looked no further than Alex. A few things didn’t add up, but they hammered at the other things until guilt was what all wanted as an end. Good question by the way.

This kid did an amazing job in this interview. I can’t believe he’s only 22 years old.
He looks and acts 42
This impressive young man restores my faith in humanity. Such a well measured intelligent compassionate young man - I wish you well in your life and thank you for fulfilling your civic duty so effectively. RIP Maggie and Paul, your last moments must have been so terrifying and shocking.
James' insight into his thought process as a juror is impressive. Thank you, James, for your service and for renewed faith into the legal system.
My thoughts exactly. This is who American defendants HOPE is on a jury judging them. Addressing a previous comment...this young man was not prepped by an attorney to answer media questions. He may have considered how he would answer questions he knew would be coming his way...but juries are not prepped by lawyers from trials on what to say.
@Karl with a K ..."O ye of little faith."
This young man is just 22 years old but he’s so mature and sensible for his age. Very coherent, alert, intelligent and his attention to detail are commendable qualities. Also his demeanor is calm and collected; his talk was well measured. Great upbringing there. He’s definitely got a great future ahead. I wish him the best.
I’m an Indian who’s watched the entire trial here in India, so it’s really interesting to see how the judicial system works in the US. I’m so happy that justice was served in the end, all thanks to everyone’s hard work and efforts; but most importantly, thanks to Paul and Bubba ♥️
I love how everyone jump to conclusions about someone's life based of a video or a pict
I still don't think he did it, but I could be wrong! I feel like the three that weren't sure were talked into thinking he was guilty .
Way better than any of our politicians...way better.
It isnt common for sure, i am in college and none of my peers is this articulate or well spoken, they are usually screaming liberals who shout and harass you as you walk to class.
Hi from the USA. 😊
Makes me feel even better about the verdict knowing this articulate, smart young man was a part of the jury. Many thanks to him for his service to his community and the nation. And, of course, his service to Paul, Maggie and the families. This brought me to tears.
Same
So agree K Helps so much to hear the jury’s great diligence and commitment to this procedure and their path to their decision
Ditto,I feel better after listening to him explain the findings evidence, conclusion
Same here. Based on this interview, I'm also confident the verdict was just. For me I appreciated that the jurors prayed before and after indicating they desired to be fair and just. Based on this and a couple other interviews I've seen, these jurors took this responsibility very serious and knew how enormous the impact was on the families, and even the town where this family had great influence for a century. 😢
I was about to write what you've said here. 100% spot on. I'd just add one thing, south carolina should be proud about how this all was handled.
Wow, I really appreciate this young man and his clear speech, his understanding of the court, and his appreciation of the moment. He really seems to be respectful of others. We could learn much from him.
This 22 y.o. gives me hope that the next generation is not a lost cause. Very impressed with his level of maturity (his parents should be proud of him). The jurors definitely arrived at the right conclusion. When he said that they would pray together that impressed me so much.
The next generation is a group of super incredible people. We’re so lucky to have them on planet earth at this time.
This guy is incredibly rare, not common or normal in this world. I am in college and a majority of kids do not act like him, they are ultra far left and completely deranged. This man is clearly balanced and not crazy ideological and thank good ness for that.
the prayer was important to me to give this to a higher power

No… this is exactly why jurors shouldn’t come out. He said he made decisions based on how much the defendant and others made eye contact with him… These are exactly the kind of reasons lawyers look for to demand a retrial.
Okay let me edit my own thoughts - he isn’t just mature for a 22 year old, he’s mature for an adult human in general. This is someone who is very intelligent, self-aware, perceptive - he has so much going for him and I hope he has a long and happy life.
so true!! some adults are childish. he will go FAR
Your parents must be so very proud of you, what a wonderful job they have done. What an amazing thoughtful young man you are. So articulate, so deliberate in your thinking and your processing of information. It sounds like they couldn’t have picked a better set of juror’s to be able to take the evidence and the witnesses and sift through all of it and find justice. Thank you for taking the time out of your busy life.
What an impressive young man! Perfect juror! Love that he took this so seriously and was so articulate about the process and his experience.
All of these jurors really came across so articulate, thoughtful and respectful of each other. They are a credit to society.
I am blown away by this young man! His maturity, intelligence, and overall demeanor are so impressive for his age!! I have never heard a juror speak like he did about being fair and taking in ALL of the evidence before making his decision It is very apparent that he was raised right and has a very bright future. I also appreciate his openness about his commitment to his faith in God and the use of prayer amongst the jurors, very powerful!! Thank you for posting this video

This young man is the epitome of not only the perfect juror but how all of us should behave, not only in court but in life. Listening, watching, gathering all of the necessary information, hearing both sides then discussing with our peers before finalizing a decision/judgment.
😂😂😂😂
Just imagine living in a world like that. AAAAHHH
Could we teach this ability? Patience, fairness, thoughtfulness, seeing both sides. James is a credit to this world. I suspect his brother is raised similarily and a great officer.
If James reads these comments, I just want him to know he is an amazing human. If the youth of today in that age bracket were all as intuitive and respectful and kind as he is, the world would turn into a better place. However, in his world, he makes it a better place for the people around him. He gave such incredible answers to the questions that you could tell were honest and truthful. He deserves a lot of credit for the amount of attention that he paid and the respect he gave to the institution. Bravo and God bless you James.
Absolutely!❤❤❤
Applies to people in all age brackets, I think.
What a well-spoken and thoughtful young man! Thank you for your service as a juror and for being a compassionate human being!
What a great guy! Hats off to this young man for giving up 6 weeks of his life and doing such an awesome job as a juror. If I had a trial I would want him to be one of my jurors
