John Bonham was the perfect drummer for this group. His sound was so heavy and anchoring, it's as you say, Janet: it set the other band members free. Fantastic reaction!
Honestly, I think they were all perfect, and fit perfectly together at the perfect time. If you took any one of them away, it wouldn't have worked.

Saw Zeppelin five times, four shows alone on their first tour of America. I have loved them since I was 19 and I'm 73 now. They never get old, and Robert's stage presence was there every step of the way. So happy to see someone so young able to articulate just how great this was!
I'm a bit younger but well remember dancing to Led Zep on a Sat night out. Mostly at the Wigan Casino before the allnighters came in. That's the UK soul scene, btw - also good tunes/vibe. Main thing was, we actually got out and met up with others physically. I'm so glad for our experience then, compared with today. PS, Mr Plant is still my golden haired god. And for all the young folk getting into Led Zep, every word out of his mouth was about sex. Just for context/understanding. 🤣

The thing that I found incredible was that Bonham occasionally drummed on 3/4 and Page would play 4/4 then the two would sync every 12th note…

Led zeppelin songs are riddled with uncommon time signatures. Black dog being the most obvious example.

Bonham just hits the beat a nano sec after the moment you expect the beat. That is not drumming off the rythm, but it is done on purpose. His timing is perfect. Every hit gives you the feeling you are a kid waiting for a firecracker goes off, but it goes when you least expected which makes your heart jump. The difference is, with a firecracker you get used to it. The way bonham hits the drum every time, it is like he hits your heart and takes over your whole bloodcirculation.
Keith Moon did the same. He sounds like he’s off-tempo, but he wasn’t.
You should react to the Celebration concert version of this song. Bonzo's son plays the drums in his father's place, Jimmy is sober, John Paul is the glue and Robert really sets the bar unbelievably high for anyone 45 or older, unbelievable performance with an epic song on stage in modern times, as a living example to all the bands touring now on how it is done.
And it was so loud the seats were vibrating. Fact.

Its great but Jason doesn't and cannot be his father though. It's not as good as this version. It just misses, John. Sorry.

Those of us who know the video: "You ain't seen nuthin' yet."....This performance was a banquet of charisma! The aura of...just--JOY, surrounding John Bonham as he drums makes me think that HE's reflecting--yet again, and, in a way, humbly--that he is in a band that is WORTHY of his talent. I think the others could have the same thought about themselves.
Kashmir is the definitive Zeppelin...The best song in the catalog of the BEST BAND EVER. My reaction is the same as yours every time I hear it

When it came to stage presence, musicianship and song writing Zeppelin were rock monsters. Jimmy Page put together a rock band that will never be equalled. After all these years I still get a rush listening to this song.
I simply can't take my eyes and ears off of that wonderful Danelectro guitar that Jimmy's playing. A precise surgical instrument tuned for special purpose.

There's never enough love for John Paul Jones. Bass and keyboards. A quiet force in the background who kept it all together and the band would not have been the same without him.

nailed it! He broke new ground and remains one of the best drummers of all time.
Its mindblowing how Roberts voice has matured and has a PHENOMINAL quality it lacked when he was young. His tember and power along with is vocal range all are TOP NOTCH. The O2 performance was just KILLER.
This performance was after he had surgery on his nodules. Could be why he sounds different.
They were so damn good!

I've been listening to Led Zeppelin longer than you've been alive. I own every album, even the rare ones.
There are plenty of Led Zeppelin videos you can view today to react. You'll see Robert, Jimmy, Paul & Bonzo in full body view and find out that they are the Kings of Rock of all time. Their presence✨ and talent speaks volumes. Glad to see someone that had no knowledge of them respond this way but honestly, not surprised. For those who knew already felt the power✨ of these souls✨ that completed us at a young age. We have been transformed and taken into a dimension we can enter anytime and anyplace. #1LZFan✨🎶✨

About the magnificent song Kashmir, somewhere there's a version of Kashmir with Robert Plant holding the note and extending the words "how I feel....".
In the song, he is out in the desert, striving, thirsting, dying -- so capturing the song story's desperation by extending that word and note is a powerful music statement -- and genius

This is my all time favorite band and song.
"A story of its own was in the drums", that's a perfect description. And also those keys!
About that simple drum beat...there are multiple time signatures in this song.
That beat isn't so easy to hold up under those conditions. 😎

In an interview Robert Plant lists it as his favorite too.
As some others have said the live version from "Celebration Day" in '06. It was 2 decades after they stopped playing and 3 decades since this song came out. John's son, Jason, sat in on drums.
John Bonham was an amazing drummer. He was in a class with guys like Neil Peart and Gavin Harrison. Phenomonal drummers!

Shout out to my fellow drummer! Who knew? Bonham is my drum hero and this is probably my favorite live video…two other of my favs are Black Dog and Whole Lotta Love both live from Madison Square Garden…pretty sure they are taken from Song Remains the Same, their concert/movie. They also released a double live LP by the same name from the same concert. The movie is well worth the watch if you’re a Zeppelin fan. ✌🏼and 🥁
It’s cool how a vocal/stage presence coach can watch Robert and be mesmerized… a drummer can watch Bonham and be in awe… a guitarist will watch Jimmy and be amazed… and a multi-instrumentalist can watch JPJ play keyboards and bass foot pedals and be impressed. No matter what angle you view this band from, it will impress you. This show was a comeback of sorts, the band had not played live in two years and had not played in England for 4 years… Punk was storming the music scene and Zeppelin were starting to be viewed as dinosaurs. They made a clear statement: we are back, and we are still the greatest band on the planet. Love your reactions!
SUPERB Reaction!!! Thanks! there are TWO videos of Zep doing "In My Time of Dying." YOU, I should think, will want to see the May 24th version (the other is May 25th), from "Earl's Court." in 1975. Both will "do," LOL, but the earlier one has Robert Plant at perhaps the MOST charismatic 3-minute stretch I've ever seen him. I'm talking about the first part of the song, the slow, "bloozy" buildup. His Stage Presence is Off the Charts, imo. Bonzo and the others also shine, lol, but, yeah!

Robert's instrument is his voice... At one point you got the head bangin going..... Zeppelin was/is in a league ALL their own. Yes you mentioned Bonham's drumming. Many rate him as the best rock drummer of ALL time. I can agree with that. I believe that in his younger days he worked as a brick/stone mason. There is video of him using his bare hands to play. Drumsticks? Who needs them???? These days many use auto tune and studio tricks. Zeppelin just used raw musical talent and skill. Nothing on fire or exploding, just entertainment...... I SO enjoy your channel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They did use effects, echo and sometimes modulation for his voice on certain songs. And the drum mics in this were going through a phaser, you notice it most on the cymbals.
Great reaction! I highly recommend watching LZ live from MSG (The Song Remains the Same / The Rain Song), they perform these 2 song together without a break perfectly, you will not be disappointed. Cant wait to see your reaction to it!
NAH NAH! watch no quarter and stairway to heaven. controversial, but i think the no quarter live from song remains the same is their best song, holy christ, it is insane they used to pull that sound off.
Being a songwriter, musician and vocalist myself, they have always been one of my favorite bands. It's like all four members have lead instruments. Some of the old bands l played in did both covers and original songs and in doing the covers, we did a lot of Led Zeppelin music. One thing that you might not have noticed is that at the end of the song is when John Bonham hits the gong, he hits it with his fist. You had a great reaction to the song.😊
You should check out the album Raising Sand (2007) with Robert Plant and Alison Krauss. It won five Grammy's including best album. Their chemistry is undeniable. I'd recommend Killing the Blues or Gone, Gone, Gone. Kudos to T Bone Burnett for getting the two together and producing the album. If you want to see "stage presence," catch their performance of several Raising Sand songs and some Zep covers blue-grass style as well from their CMT Crossroads appearance. You can feel the chemistry.
I don't listen to the radio anymore. Haven't in about 10 years. I just go through my albums I've been collecting since the late 1960's. Put on a great band like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Unicorn, Pink Floyd. Too many to name. And flow back to the good days when music was raw and real. No vocal assist. Just pure voice into a microphone and the band on instruments playing their hearts out. Sorry but music nowadays is so fake. Bands like Led Zeppelin are legend. Will always be. Simply greatness. Forever blessed I got to go to so many concerts back in the day of all the greatest musicians ever.
For a better look at the physical passion from these lads, go back to 1970 Royal Albert Hall. Every song is great but may I suggest Wholle Lotta Love or for 20 mins of pure bliss, How Many More Times will blow your mind. Btw, robert has on a dark blue shirt in that one - ya know - in case you wanna match him again! 😊

Kashmir is an epic song, and this was a performance for the ages, and you got that 100%. Words simply don’t do it justice. We can try, and we do, but this performance is beyond words.

I so love this song!!!! The shifts have always seemed, to me anyway, to be turns in the road up into the picture/scene they are creating. Yes, I did inhale on occasion. I did a search for Moody for the Moody Blues and saw that you have not done a video on them yet? I prefer the live performances when they are older as, again my opinion, they really bring it regardless. Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and The Moody Blues got me through some "interesting" times. If I might suggest the live performance of Knights in White Satin?

Thanks. Its a masterpiece saying the least. J.B. is from a bricklaying family. Early he did some and has great core arm strength. Used 24 inch sticks, refaced most drums every use and broke them often. Hit so hard (YES!) that they put him in another room to record. Nobody could hear themselves play.....He's my favorite slightly over Keith Moon. RIP YOU TWO CRAZY ASS DRUMMERS

Your right about the drummer John Bonham, he was the rock. When he died in 1980, Robert Plant did not want to continue as LZ anymore.....

in December 2012, in London, this song was also played and it sounded a lot better than the original recording (also understandable, because of today's technology) Robert Plant, still has a great voice, the band was great, too Jason Bonham, who played drums for his father ("John Bonham" R.I.P.).

Now do the same song but from the live Celebration Day Concert I believe in 2004. They are pushing 70 years old. The drummer is the original Drummers son. Robert Plant sounds even better. They got together for this one concert after almost 30 years. Special performance.
Someone once described Plant’s performance here as courageous singing. I thought that hit the nail in the head.

I M O this song was SO much better on the NO QUARTER cd with the Egyptian Orchestra, sets the mid- eastern vibe so much more. Was blessed to have seen that tour for Page & Plant..

One of my greatest shocks was hearing the "elevator" version of Stairway to Heaven while stuck heading up to the clouds. Fortunately, my mind decided it was not worthy of maintaining the "music" but the revulsion was worthy. :-)
The Celebration Day version is the definitive live version; just incredible.

You're so right about the music on the radio today. You're too young to have lived this time; it was glorius! There is still a lot of terrific music today but you have to really to search it out because unfortunately it's not popular. People are not to blame; it's the music industry.

I was there , that was Knebworth ...we went to both gigs...I lived in Stevenage and we walked to the gigs , the best song that night was Achillies last stand....it is on youtube
