The sound quality, arrangement and mixing on that celebration day performance makes it my favourite live performance of Kashmir to listen to regularly. I wish I could wave a magic wand and have 1970s LZ with modern tech.

Robert Plant said this was the Zeppelin song he was most proud of. In case you didn't catch it, Bonham was playing a straight 4 beat on the drums, while Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones were playing in 6 time, creating a phase effect between the beat and the melody. And those drum fills....iconic!!!
I would add producer and business genius. Jimmy made them multi-multi millionaires because he understood copyrights and the evil that is the publishing business. He won. Zeppelin rocks.
What's crazy is that I had heard the album version of Kashmir a thousand times before I ever got to see this live version, and Bonham's drumming still melted my brain like I had never heard it before.
JPJ was one of the bass players who inspired me to pick up the bass in the first place. For some reason "Ramble On" was the first Zep song I tackled lol.... it wasn't as easy as I'd thought! JPJ did become one of my favorite bass players and still is.
The difference between this band and EVERY other one is that Robert Plant didn't assume that he was merely a singer but his instrument was just as important as every other in the band.

This came out when I was 14 in Melbourne Australia and totally blew my mind. The switch up of the timing was just amazing to me, as I had been a classically trained pianist and constant timing was a necessity, but not for Zeppelin. This is still one of my favourite songs to this day, and I never tire of hearing it! What a bunch of next level genius talent they all had. R.I.P. Bonzo, always steadying the ship with your stunning drumming.

There's a live performance on YT of Heart's Sylvan Song/Dream of the Archer where JPJ plays mandolin along with Nancy Wilson. Another good vid is Polyphonic's "What Makes John Bonham Such a Good Drummer?" Page & Plant get much of the accolades but JPJ and Bonzo were equally amazing. Four unique talents merging into the most unique and powerful rock band to ever grace the planet, bar none. One aspect of their music that really grabs me is the emotion it conveys. It touches the depth of my being.
Whenever you watch the live performances in front of an audience the guitarist, Jimmy Page, is really fun to watch. He really gets into his music and I think he enjoys it so much that it's not a job.
As a 70 year old, I beg to differ. After I was given my second honorable discharge in 90 it's not been short, except for a couple of times when I donated it to Locks of Love. Got sick of being reminded to get a haircut. Besides everyone has short hair now days.
Behind the "side step" is the amazing kick drum beat. Bonham only used one kick drum. It became an inside joke. It is a prominent feature of the first song on their first album, " Good Times Bad Times." Check it out. :)

Later there was also Opera ! In the 1920's, there was Ragtime, Jazz, Blues and Country ! In the 1940's they added Crooners and Big Bands ! All of these have their own history ! Then came WWII and after that, everything changed again ! After the War those that survived just wanted peace and families and white picket fences ! The 'freedom' they won was given to those they call today, Baby Boomers ! That 'freedom' was transformed into music, which is why music from that time (1959 - 1989) sounds so upbeat, light, happy, Free ! THIS was the new Rennaisance of Music ! 55 years ago at 16 years old, I took myself to see Led Zeppelin open for The Who. It was my first rock concert. Zepp did a mix of songs from their first album and soon to be released second album. They actually cut power on them to get them off of the stage so The Who could perform. The audience went crazy and trashed the Merriweather Post pavilion in Columbia, Maryland. This now famous show was the only time that these two bands shared the same stage.
I have been a musician for over 50 years now, mainly blues and blues rock, but started in rock all those years back, and it remains a huge part of my life and influence. There have been SO many great rock bands over so many years, however, not one will ever be the equal of Led Zeppelin. This band is the very greatest rock band ever to grace the planet. The death of John Bonham deprived us of so much more they could have given us since his death. RIP John, you are still sorely missed.
Drummer here - Bonham’s drum fill you noticed is just good old 8th-note triplets - nothing special there - but he does play them hitting his snare every 4 notes, giving them a syncopated “4 over 3” effect. Pretty cool little musical move, and not too hard to do, for any good player.
I too saw themin '69 in Salt lake city in a small venue where they were the opening act for another very good band called "Vanilla Fudge." Zeppelin was virtually unknown at this point and no one there knew anything about them. They took the stage and 4 hours later left it. People would not let them go. "Fudge" came out and played 2 songs and said goodnight everyone since it was now after 1:00 a.m.. Six months later Led Zepppelin was the number one group in the world.

He said everyone was just kind of walking around , not really paying attention or listening to the other bands , ( it was all "festival seating " in those days, there were no assigned seats.) He said they opened with "Good times, bad times" and EVERYONE just stopped moving and were absolutely gobsmacked by what they were hearing and seeing. He remembered John Bonham holding his sticks over his head when he was doing his bass drum triplets!
The phone is on the Mellotron because it was originally in a studio where the producer could communicate with whoever is playing it while recording a song. That's what i have heard. You can hear it in the background of "The Ocean" if listen closely or with a headset.
On these reaction videos everyone should just react to studio albums. Those are the true versions. You get the song the way the band intended. IMHO. Led Zepplin is the greatest rock band ever.

In reality, the term "music video" didn't come about until 1981 when MTV launched. There were channels were artists performed live, The Midnight Special, Don Kirshner's Rock Concert and a few others. They primarily aired on the weekends. Groups of the sixties and seventies filmed "Promotional" videos. A few notable ones are "Bohemian Rhapsody" in 1975 by Queen, "Whiter Shade of Pale" in 1967 by Procol Harum, and "We're an American Band" by Grand Funk Railroad in 1973. There is live footage that was released to MTV as music videos.
Maybe even further back- England, The Buggles (per Wiki.) "Video Killed the Radio Star" : "...was recorded and mixed in 1979, released as their debut single on 7 September 1979 by Island Records...". Peace, love and bellbottoms from Canada.

From what I heard, it’s to signal to Jimmy Page the guitarist he’s dragging out his solo to long LOL. Jimmy gets into playing, & sometimes need’s reigned in, but his solos are incredible. I doubt it works, since the band relies on visual signals from each other to certain things, I’m sure if John Paul Jones bass & keyboards picked it up Jimmy would notice.
Yep that drummer, John Bonham was purposely playing off beat. An absolute freak. If you want to see something mind blowing you should react to Moby Dick live at Earls Court. It is essentially a drum instrumental and it shows how great Bonham was...he would often end with bloodied hands as he plays a section of it without drumsticks.
Best band ever, period! Jimmy Page "happy dance" is/was a well know James Brown move, and he did that also right Plant sang a bit like James Brown Bbbbbbaby. That was the level od genius in that band, paying a masterpice of a song while having fun, only them!!
The telephone was to talk to the mixing desk which was about 150 yards away in the middle of 250,000 people. There were no cell phones in 1979 and the security contingent was massive, so walky talkies were not an option for the sound crew. Walky talkies were illegal in England at the time and could only be used by licensed police and security services. Consequently they would buy their radios in America, where they were cheap and bring them to the UK. The only problem with this was that all US CB radios were fitted with channel 14 crystals. (All on the same frequency) That's OK in the UK because no one else would be within range...except me. I bought a very high powered set from America with me to the gig to use it to stay in touch with my friends if we got separated. However, my radios were WAY more powerful than the cheap little things they gave to the security at the show. Every time I pressed my transmit I wiped out the entire security for the show. Boy were they p*ssed. My antenna was six feet long and I stood out like a sore thumb. They threatened they'd kill me if they found me, so I put it away after having had some fun during the afternoon. Oh, yeah. Zeppelin were really good...😉

The lead singer Robert Plant’s vocals aren’t as they once were, he had surgery on his vocal cords, still the greatest singer. He had an amazing range tone & texture. Jimmy Page lead guitarist, my opinion the greatest guitarist ever, he founded the band, & produced mixed & edited all their albums. John Paul Jones on bass keyboards & mandolin, is classically trained & amazing musician. Then we have the greatest drummer ever, John (Bonzo) Bonham. Who sadly passed away in (1980), & the band knew he couldn’t be replaced & disbanded. Each are the GOATS of their crafts, & together the GODS of music, of several genres.
If you love Bonzo's drumming at Knebworth on this track then check out his performance on Achilles Last Stand which has such a complex (fast) drum part that hardly anyone thought he could do it live, let alone better! Awesome drum performance AND all 4 of Led Zep are at a live peak on Achilles. No weak heels on these boys so enjoy that one too ;) Incidentally I prefer the Page/Plant Unledded version of Kashmir with a full Egyptian Orchestra!
As a musician you probably notice that the vocals and chorus is in 6/8 time but the drums play in a 4/4 rhythm. That's why it sounds like it's falling apart then it comes together every 11 beats.
Bonham's fills are incredible but the band know exactly where to come in on every bar; feel like I'd need a calculator to figure out where each bar ends.
Did I hear you say, both six and twelve string guitars? He never switched guitars during a performance to my knowledge.... but sometimes used a double neck which was a twelve string and a six string. On this, he used his six-string Danelectro. :)
official video refers to a video that groups release on tv music channels to promote the song . these days its more internet . anything live , is usually just that , i live video , unless they use a live video as the official video . which some do

Which often JPJ would separately play the & record those instruments, for the mellotron. I believe for Stairway To Heaven he play recorders, to sound like flutes, at the beginning of the song.
The telephone may have been a direct line to the engineer at the control desk. If I was playing a mellotron live, I would probably want a technician close at hand.
Every musician here is a virtuoso - total master of his instrument. Take Jimmy Page - the guitarist. Almost every song involves a different tuning scheme for the guitar so that although he clearly plays with muscle memory like any great musician, it has to be a different muscle memory for every song. I could say the same for the rest of them, but I'll stick to the instrument I understand. Others have asked you to see this song played at their Celebration Day concert when they were all old men. The same fire, and Robert's voice has not deteriorated an inch. And John, the drummer has by then died, so his little boy Jason takes his place on stage. And it is clear that he is not there from sentiment - he has earned it.

A mellotron combined with a string orchestra was used on the studio recording of ‘Kashmir’. However, at these two shows (the Knebworth Festival that Led Zeppelin headlined on the 4th and 11th of August in 1979) John Paul Jones is seen here playing the Yamaha GX-1 analogue synthesizer.
Probably already been mentioned, but that side shuffle at 2:55, was Jimmy Page trying to copy, emulate and give honour to Little Richard, one of their Rock and Roll heroes from the 1950s (early 60s)

From what I heard, it’s to signal to Jimmy Page the guitarist he’s dragging out his solo to long LOL. Jimmy gets into playing, & sometimes need’s reigned in, but his solos are incredible. I doubt it works, since the band relies on visual signals from each other to certain things, I’m sure if John Paul Jones bass & keyboards picked it up Jimmy would notice.

Yep that drummer, John Bonham was purposely playing off beat. An absolute freak. If you want to see something mind blowing you should react to Moby Dick live at Earls Court. It is essentially a drum instrumental and it shows how great Bonham was...he would often end with bloodied hands as he plays a section of it without drumsticks.
Best band ever, period! Jimmy Page "happy dance" is/was a well know James Brown move, and he did that also right Plant sang a bit like James Brown Bbbbbbaby. That was the level od genius in that band, paying a masterpice of a song while having fun, only them!!
The telephone was to talk to the mixing desk which was about 150 yards away in the middle of 250,000 people. There were no cell phones in 1979 and the security contingent was massive, so walky talkies were not an option for the sound crew. Walky talkies were illegal in England at the time and could only be used by licensed police and security services. Consequently they would buy their radios in America, where they were cheap and bring them to the UK. The only problem with this was that all US CB radios were fitted with channel 14 crystals. (All on the same frequency) That's OK in the UK because no one else would be within range...except me. I bought a very high powered set from America with me to the gig to use it to stay in touch with my friends if we got separated. However, my radios were WAY more powerful than the cheap little things they gave to the security at the show. Every time I pressed my transmit I wiped out the entire security for the show. Boy were they p*ssed. My antenna was six feet long and I stood out like a sore thumb. They threatened they'd kill me if they found me, so I put it away after having had some fun during the afternoon. Oh, yeah. Zeppelin were really good...😉

This is the song the band is most proud of, & yes they often play in different timing, & make it sound amazing. The lead singer Robert Plant’s vocals aren’t as they once were, he had surgery on his vocal cords, still the greatest singer. He had an amazing range tone & texture. Jimmy Page lead guitarist, my opinion the greatest guitarist ever, he founded the band, & produced mixed & edited all their albums. John Paul Jones on bass keyboards & mandolin, is classically trained & amazing musician. Then we have the greatest drummer ever, John (Bonzo) Bonham. Who sadly passed away in (1980), & the band knew he couldn’t be replaced & disbanded. Each are the GOATS of their crafts, & together the GODS of music, of several genres.
It was a hot line to Kashmir!
If you love Bonzo's drumming at Knebworth on this track then check out his performance on Achilles Last Stand which has such a complex (fast) drum part that hardly anyone thought he could do it live, let alone better! Awesome drum performance AND all 4 of Led Zep are at a live peak on Achilles. No weak heels on these boys so enjoy that one too ;)
Incidentally I prefer the Page/Plant Unledded version of Kashmir with a full Egyptian Orchestra!

As a musician you probably notice that the vocals and chorus is in 6/8 time but the drums play in a 4/4 rhythm. That's why it sounds like it's falling apart then it comes together every 11 beats.
John Bonham is the milestone for rock. It's always perfect, he and the others created a new musical genre.

Bonham's fills are incredible but the band know exactly where to come in on every bar; feel like I'd need a calculator to figure out where each bar ends.

Did I hear you say, both six and twelve string guitars? He never switched guitars during a performance to my knowledge.... but sometimes used a double neck which was a twelve string and a six string. On this, he used his six-string Danelectro. :)
official video refers to a video that groups release on tv music channels to promote the song . these days its more internet . anything live , is usually just that , i live video , unless they use a live video as the official video . which some do

Which often JPJ would separately play the & record those instruments, for the mellotron. I believe for Stairway To Heaven he play recorders, to sound like flutes, at the beginning of the song.

Every musician here is a virtuoso - total master of his instrument. Take Jimmy Page - the guitarist. Almost every song involves a different tuning scheme for the guitar so that although he clearly plays with muscle memory like any great musician, it has to be a different muscle memory for every song. I could say the same for the rest of them, but I'll stick to the instrument I understand. Others have asked you to see this song played at their Celebration Day concert when they were all old men. The same fire, and Robert's voice has not deteriorated an inch. And John, the drummer has by then died, so his little boy Jason takes his place on stage. And it is clear that he is not there from sentiment - he has earned it.
