I love Cyberpunk/Dystophia movies and shows. There is just something about the look of neon lights and griminess of cities, they mesh up together so perfectly.
It's a shame that cyberpunk movies are so rare, but it's both costly and time-consuming to produce them. Below is a list of cyberpunk-ish movies and series that I know of, some of them pretty low budget and cheesy. Movies ------ 2019: After the Fall of New York (1983) Akira (1988) Blade Runner (1982) Blade Runner 2049 (2017) Demolition Man (1993) Dredd (2012) eXistenZ (1999) Ghost in the Shell (1995) Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence (2004) Ghost in the Shell (2017) Hardware (1990) I, Robot (2004) Johnny Mnemonic (1995) Lawnmower Man (1992) Lawnmower Man 2: Beyond Cyberspace (1996) Max Headroom: 20 minutes into the Future (1985) Nemesis (1992) Nirvana (1997) Redline a.k.a. Deathline or Syndicate (1997) Robocop (1987) Split Second (1992) Strange Days (1995) Thirteenth Floor (1999) Total Recall (1990) Total Recall (2012) Universal Soldier (1992) Series ------ Altered Carbon Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Total Recall 2070
Good list! Just thought I'd add Trancers, Screamers, Omega Doom and Cyborg. Matrix and Animatrix for good measure as well. If you can handle it, Tetsuo the Ironman and 964 Pinocchio. I really enjoyed Bubblegum Crisis 2040 and AD Police as well as Serial Experiments Lain. Ergo Proxy, Psycho Pass and blame! And Texhnolyze. Soldier, Alien, Resident Evil(killer ai), Avatar, Enders Game, Fortress, iRobot, Bicentennial Man, THX1138 and Star Wars (Luke&Vader = cyborg) could loosely fit the genre as well. Almost forgot Terminator and Battlestar Galactica and their spinoffs. Raised By Wolves, Automata, Tron, and don't miss the Blomkamp films!
All of the Ghost in the Shell anime. Movies (Ghost in the Shell, Ghost in the Shell 2.0, Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, Kōkaku kidōtai: Kōkaku kidōtai: Stand Alone Complex: Laughing Man, Kōkaku kidōtai: Stand Alone Complex 2 nd GIG: Individual Eleven, Stand Alone Complex: Solid State Society, and series (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG). Also Animatrix, Appleseed, Metropolis(2001), Dark City, The Thirteenth Floor... and a lot lot loooooot more.
Didn't see anyone suggesting "Cyber city odeo 808" so there it is. It's an anime, divided in 3 episodes of 40 minutes. For cyberpunk enthusiasts I couldn't recommend it enough!
Ergo Proxy was a good tip,the rest i had already in my collection. But ... missing out GHOST IN THE SHELL with many other MANGA ANIMES is really a BIG MINUS.
I've never watched any cyberpunk films after watching "Cyberpunk Edgerunners". It was so well written that the ending actually destroyed me. It was always on my mind for a few months.
🎵 _So, get away. Another way to feel what you didn't want yourself to know and let yourself go_ 🎵 Me (Pre-Edgerunners): Hey, banging tune. Me (Post-Edgerunners): 😭😭😭
Season One in Expense is an amazing cyberpunk detective space show that no one notices that it is... season two onward is a space drama/action, still great as a sci-fi show highly recommended but season one is the best cyberpunk since altered carbon. great cyberpunk, invested the budget and great actors, great storyline and mystery on Mars’s outer belt moons.
Altered Carbon one of the best shows that ive seen so far, listen season 1 MIND FUCKING BLOWING, AMAZING, FUN, Joel Kinnaman (fav actor) came out in the movie like a badass cigarette smoking, guns blazing, smart, balzy rouge cop, i dont know how the explain the awesomeness of the caracther you just have to watch it, and season 2 (coming from a hard fan) was ok - i mean the story was cool and the action was good but it was missing Joel and it was missing Ortega (and Elliot). My 2 cents on the story - watch it !!!!!
I think season 2 was horrendous!!! They ruined it. I was looking forward to it because the first season is so damn good I watched it 3 times. The second season turned into a cheesy superhero type movie. Felt like a complete new show. Joel was and AMAZING actor and he played the Takeshi so well. Mackie didn’t fit the role at all and didn’t have the same persona or mannerisms as Joel’s version.
@@rhondaaa9614 Yeah man, and i also wanted to say the shows story is very interesting but the problem with it is if you switch the main characters sleeve it just does not feal the same you know what i mean. It feels wrong
Ghost in the Shell (all of it, including the live action film) and Alita: Battle Angel are my personal favorites but I just love this genre in general so I'll be checking these out!
Wouldn't you consider UPGRADE to have a little of cyberpunk genre vibes? (Or maybe more than little) One thing are aesthetics/music/atmosphere which I find very fitting to the genre. But I also think it depicts a transitional period between our modern civilization as we see it very plausible in a few (dozen) years (with a widespread usage of IoT, big data, cybernetic augmentation) and a concept of inventing a legitimate AI with all its implications to the humankind.
The transition from dredd to ex machina is so smooth and thematically consistant that I had to stop the video and watch it again. You are really good. The video is generally really good otherwise as well.
*Hey,can you suggest me more some cyberpunk Movies /series as I am a beginner ,I have seen Elysium,Akira,Ghost in the Shell, The Matrix, Ready Player One, Cowboy Bebop...*
Blade Runner 1 (look for the best version) Blade Runner 2049 Ghost in the shell (the anime and the movie) Terminator 1 and 2 Total Recall (with Arnold Schwarzenegger) Robocop (1989) The fifth element Demolition man Upgrade
anime wise i would suggest cow boy beep bop (also has an Netflix live action adaptation that's really good) and also space dandy witch was also made by the same person.
The original Total Recall is one of the best plots of cyberpunk movies. What I take from the movie is about how humans have the desire to be immersed into their fantasies. But When will we realize that we’ve gone too far? It’s a great movie that really have you second guessing throughout the movie. I highly recommend it
i love blade runner 2049,demolition man, Next gen, Love death + robots and the Matrix are some of my favorites. Also I'm not sure if this is considered cyberpunk, but I actually really liked Project Power.
Check out "The Thirteenth Floor." It is an underrated movie about simulating reality. Also, check out "In Time" as it is along the same kind of themes as cyberpunk and is underrated as well.
Unpopular opinion but I see the Hunger Games series as a cyberpunk movie. While cyberpunk purists beg to differ, the inescapable reality is that it explores many of the same themes as any other cyberpunk movie, just not as deeply.
I know the channel creator is Australian but geeze, Dredd is NOT based on the Sylvester Stallone movie *GAG* but is based on the British comic book series, ouch! #HowAboutSomeResearch?
I LOVE altered carbon, unfortunately the second season was so so so bad and just ruined the entire thing for me. There was no cohesion between the first and second season. It just felt like two completely different storylines within the same universe.
What an awful list. Where is ghost in a shell, like the MAIN one. what about alita battle angle or Valerian if you will. Some of these are bearley even SciFi let alone cyberpunk.
Blade Runner 2049 For what I read that were problems The problems I saw were in the storyline itself Enough with the idea of birth They thought the movie was too long It could ve been 6 hours What Blade Runner fan would care Ooooh too much Cyber really The sets were ripped badly from the original movie And some characters were interchanged for whatever stupid socio political reason they indulged Deckards storyline was butchered
Altered Carbon is a total piece of crap. It completely misses the point of the Cyberpunk genre, which is cautionary, not celebratory. Cyberpunk is an admonishment of multiculturalism for instance, but Altered Carbon (at least the show) glorifies it. Pretty dumb.
What is your favourite Cyberpunk Movie?
If I'm being honest I haven't seen alot of cyberpunk, but I'm definitely getting interested in checking these out 💯😎
I liked Dredd
And i also like the ghost in the shell the live action one🤝
Blade runner 🤗

“Mute” has such an amazing cyberpunk vibe, the storyline isn’t the best - but if you are really into cyberpunk aesthetics, you’ll love it.
