Harry Belafonte, a trailblazing Caribbean-American artist, has passed away at the age of 96 due to congestive heart failure, according to his spokesperson who gave the news to the New York Times.

Belafonte was a multifaceted talent who made an indelible impact on music and film. He was not only a chart-topping singer but also a renowned actor and television personality, known for his performances in films such as Buck and the Preacher and Island in the Sun.
However, Belafonte's legacy extends far beyond his artistic achievements. Throughout his career, he advocated for racial and social justice in America and around the world. Belafonte was a prominent civil rights activist who worked closely with Dr Martin Luther King Jr and was a key figure in the movement for racial equality.

I heard his calypso songs when i was a child and was completely taken in by this rythmic music. Always loved Harry Belafonte and hope he passed away peacefully. A great person and will be missed !!! Wish there were more people like him around!!!!🥰🥲

I grew up listening to his 'Live At Carnegie Hall ' album that my dad was always playing ! Im from a large family who loved music . Harry was my fav because he was so funny on that album. What an amazing life he lived to the fullest and with such a superb singing style and voice . My fav voice . I have fond memories of the live versions of John Henry , Sylvie , Jamaica Farewell , Matilda , and of course Mama Look At BooBoo
