  • “You can lock up the singer, but not the song.” When Harry Belafonte discovered the stage, he found a political instrument. A beloved singer and one of the first African-American actors to appear on the silver screen, he received the Pardo alla carriera in 2012 and told us how his success offered him a platform that he didn’t hesitate to use for causes such as the abolition of racial segregation and discussed his extraordinary life, looking back at half a century’s worth of civil rights activism.
