Before my wife and I met 40 years ago, she avoided scrapple like the plague (I loved it)... after she tried it the first time she now gets it every time we go out to breakfast. Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside (with maple syrup for me and plain for her)

Scrapple is very similar to Traditional Irish Black Pudding which for generations of Irish people is a staple of their Breakfast and various Grill/Barbecue meals with Pork Blood, Fat and Oatmeal with whatever Spices you prefer…. It probably was introduced to the American Diet with the Irish on arrival after the Great Famine in Ireland ….

I'm from SE PA and I've been eating scrapple my whole life. Scrapple is chopped up pig parts (you really don't want to know anymore) mixed with corn meal and spices (depends on who's making it as to what spices are included) shaped into bricks or blocks depending on size and boiled. The best way to have scrapple is "hard" cooked. Super crispy on the outside put still soft on the inside. I prefer mine with ketchup or sometimes syrup. I go sweet or savory to go with the rest of the meal; Eggs - savory, Pancakes - sweet. I saw that you had some cottage cheese. I'm pretty sure they must have had some apple butter on one of the condiment bars. A work colleague showed me how to mix apple butter and cottage cheese years ago and it was great. Sweet and salty. I'll bet apple butter goes really well with scrapple also. I'll have to try that the next time my wife and I go to Shady Maple.

I hate that it's so far away from me! I live in Florida now but grew up in North Carolina...on scrapple. I love it and down here no one knows what I'm talking about. But I also love grits and I saw none on the buffet or on your plate haha. I would love to try that fabulous buffet but would have to be uber-selective because these days my stomach can only hold so much at a time. Out of what I saw, I would definitely have a good bit of those eggs, at least some of both bacon and sausage (forgoing the scrapple for lack of tummy space), hash browns, a biscuit and maybe a bakery sweet or two and then some fruit and oj. I would have to forgo the ice cream but would hate to. I've seen one other buffet that would rival Shady Maples and that is the Iowa 80 truck stop...the largest truck stop (they advertise) in the US. They say they serve 350,000 meals per year. I'm going to watch more of your videos to make myself even hungrier lol.

Scrapple is kind of different to explain lol. It’s mostly made of pork trimmings, organ meat, cornmeal and spices. Pretty salty taste. Kind of like spam but more pork taste than ham and more grainy texture.

@@Adventuresareforthecowles Yes, I personally like it, but I will pretty much eat anything, it’s similar to like a giant sausage, a bit on the slight nutty side, but with the right condiments and side dishes, it’s pretty good, I would definitely recommend it.👍🏾

@@Adventuresareforthecowles By the way, I need to go to this place, I’m a huge breakfast guy and that would be heaven for me, I’m originally from the states but live in Japan now for over 20 years and the Japanese don’t eat or I should say, put a heavy emphasis on breakfast the way we do. I miss that.😩 The Japanese focus heavily on lunch and dinner.
