My first full sized bike was an 82 RM125, I would give so much to have that bike back! When your 13 it felt like you could never bottom out that full floater even if you wanted to!
That’s a great way of putting it. Seeing all of these late ‘70s and early ‘80s Japanese bikes is a thrill. I owned quite a few of them, so it’s great to see them in this kind of condition.
That's the bike that got me hooked on big bores. My best friend was one of the fastest open class riders in the Midwest riding that same bike in 81. I ended up owning his 465 the following year. It was my first big bore.
@@davebrunette6394 U lucky guy! RIP like crazy don't they biggest I had was totally stripped Kmx200 and that ripped I can only imagine using a couple of big bore bands and shooting about 500m in an instant!👊🏻
I found the 500 either wouldn't hook up or wanted to loop out was the 465 that way? That 485 was that way too but with a weight added to the flywheel smoothed it out
That's a Sweet looking RM 465 sounds awesome as well love vintage Suzuki's you never disappoint with bringing back the memories to us with these great MX bikes of the past.
Your breaking my heart man ... I raced an 81' 125 and 250 . I literaly had to sell my stereo and my car to buy them but , It was so worth it . I bought a clapped out VW ( the stink bug ) later but THAT YEAR WAS INCREDIBLE ! Green Valley ( Texas ) , OKC ( red dirt ) , Possum Hollow ( IMMACULATE TRACK ! Missouri ) , Of course Ponca City ( Oklahoma ) and Track South of Dallas that was all sand and had the most hellacious woops ever I don't remember the name , Arkansas and Louisiana WHAT A YEAR ! Suzuki was firing on all cylinders that year , Yeah that 465 will give you the moto shits and giggles and tear up some terra firma , loft some man sized rocks and put a permanent smile on your face BRAP BRAP BRAP SUZI .... miss you . PK
This guy is a true hero by restoring incredibly machines. I had a 1985 250YZ, 1988 250CR and finally a 1992 KX 125. Awesome machines that take me back to the good old days. Kaplan great job!1
Very nice,I've never seen an RM465 before......the DG can is very much like the aftermarket DEP Sport cans that were sold for the RG 250 Gamma road bikes.
Oh how I miss my RM465 Z 82 model ,4 speed too, was as reliable as an axe and would stand up every gear Great video - enjoyed it very much. Cheers Paul ,Australia
I have one of these bikes in one of my storage buildings in fallston NC. It has sat for years, but doesn’t need a lot to be rideable, it has all the original plastics though, and original rims as well if I remember correctly. The motor was bored 60 over the 465 stock. Everything other than that on the bike is original other even the blue seat cover, mine I think is an 82.
One year ago today me and a buddy came up and took a tour of the museum and got to meet Ken and Jr... awesome people. Hoping to come back again one of these days keep doing what you guys do
Beautiful restore.. classic.. I had a 1983 DS80, but I was 12 years old then.. rode it all day whenever I could out in local fields with other friends, great time then. Upgraded to a 250 RM Suzuki when older and Tacate 3 wheeler 250 after various smaller 3 wheelers. Only thing left that I still have from my younger years is my 1985 elite 250 scooter.
I just want to say thanks to Bill and Ken jr. I was out on the east coast from California visiting my daughter in college,so I made the 85 mile drive to their shop on a Monday which they were closed, nonetheless they let me inside to take a tour of the museum . Very cool thanks for the hospitality. Rod k. From Cali
Being a recent 64 yr o;ld this Bike is from my Era when Younger. On Japanese makes if I couldn't have a Yamaha I had to have a Suzuki. THAT Bike was and still is a FAST Tractor.
Kaplan I can attest!! My friend had this exact bike in the 80's early 90's. Used to ride it weekly and our local sand trap riding area. It's a monster. Total monster
Absolutely wonderful dirt bike 1982 RM465 Big bore I must say rip the house right off the foundations. I had a 1986 rm 250 but it wasn't big board. I used to call it. My big Tweety Bird from hell. Absolutely Maniac of a bike. I love my big crazy yellow
awesome bigbore video s i graduated 1983,, was that a 1979 twin cam honda 750 on sidewalk? first bike my dad let me ride his ts400 suzi, enduro, and a 78? ktm 420 bigbores, thanks kaplans
One of the neighborhood boys dads had an old elsnore 250, man in every gear the dang front end would just pull right up. I rode it one time and ripped it hard, 1 time was enough to give it respect. Those old bikes were beasts
Suzuki nailed it with the 465 rm ,if you if you were lucky enough to have one in the day ,you were envied by all , ps , I rember these bad boys roosting rocks at a 80 mph, running uphill and over jumps in the Mr motocross series in australia in the 80s 😎✌
I had the 82. Your bike has the double leading shoe front brake that came with the 83 or 84 500. Big improvement. My single shoe 82 front was a little weak. Suspension great. Four speed not so.
They have such lightweight lower ends on them. Great power off idle. I wouldn't suggest screaming one to redline often. But in the meat of its powerband, which isn't as high of an rpm as you'd think. They have a unique character that was a bit dangerous honestly.
I got a yellow Yamaha tri zinger three wheeler u can have I went through it and couldn't get it running but have all parts that came off it tires all hold air
If you guys find a sweet RM125 from ‘78, or maybe ‘82-‘83, I’ll put in an offer. RM125s from that era were screamers. Love all bikes from the big 4, but the RMs, yeah baby.
I think that the big 4 should take a page from guitar manufacturers like Fender and Gibson and do limited runs of vintage reissues from different eras. Imagine being able to buy a brand new vintage signature series Mark Barnett RM125, a Bob Hannah YZ250, a Marty Smith CR250, or a Brad Lackey KX500. Later on a second series, a Ricky Carmichael RM250, a James Stewart KX250, etc.. In the guitar world they sell a lot of these. Not sure how it would pan out in the motorcycle world, but it would be a blast to see.
@@KaplanCyclesHey, quick question. Are the RMs and YZs from the late ‘70s early ‘80s rare to find in this condition these days compared to CRs because riders rode the wheels off the RMs and YZs, or is it because there were a lot more CRs produced and sold? I grew up in Texas in the ‘70s and RMs and YZs were everywhere. Rarely saw CRs until mid ‘80s and really rarely saw KXs until the ‘90s. Sweet RMs like this one are almost impossible to find. Especially 125s. Thanks.
So im really confused looking at this bike. Its a mix between an 81 & 82. Perhaps a mid year production? The graphics on the tank are 81, round slide carb is 81 (82 had the flat/square), 82 front number plate (81 were round), 82 front fender. Is the trans a 5 or 4 speed? 82 were 4 speed... not original seat and cover either. The tank/nut protector is not factory. Awesome bike regardless! My brother still has his 81, but its not this nice.(original owner) wish i would have never sold my 82... first new bike i ever owned.

For a moment there when he took it off the stand and was talking about sound harshness I thought I was hearing seagulls 😅
Only a Suzuki has that distinctive sound only people who road air cooled RMs and PEs know what I mean 😉

I know what you mean. I've spent a lot of time on my 1981 PE175 and 1982 RM465.

That's the way it goes, you never realize what you have until it's gone!
That is so true.
The 1982 250z was way faster motor.

Both awesome.
