- In this video Jay Robarge of Broader Performance will show a very critical procedure when installing a valve body in a Ford C6 transmission. Important information for the professional and novice.
Great information on an issue that is so often overlooked. Just goes to show that sticking to the basics when setting up is so important. Where a few measurements and reference checks can save everyone a lot of head aches and possibly a transmission. Great work!
For sure. Thanks for commenting.
Thats also the most common C6 shift issue i have found! Especially typical on core transmissions that have had the shift lever knocked around an this bends the internal selector arm, or if its been in a crash in a vehicle and bent it. To the point that the 1st thing i do when stripping a C6 shift mechanism out is inspect that internal arm for traces of tiny cracks in the case hardening, a sure sign its bent!
Great videos, thanks.
The cores we get almost always have bent linkage as well. Im sure thats why I have to adjust it so often.
Oh yes , great video. . Lost count of how many I have fixed that have a tie up mostly on the 3-2 downshift , there is a point that the band can apply without the manual valve moving far enough to open the exhaust port to release 3rd gear.
Cable adjustment is just one thing that is critical that a lot of guys don't get how important it is .
Came across it back in about 1997 with a burnt up unit and figured what it was . Have measured every one since , particularly I find critical in the "2" position.
A lot of shops think they know but really do not these finer details .... Big thumbs up on this one :)
Thank you for backing me up on this. Its very important.
Thank You Jay I really appreciate you sharing this information you sure are a knowledgeable guy really learning a lot from your videos. Big Fan of your stuff as well.
Thanks for watching and your comments.
Excellent Video Jay! I was never aware about this. The few times i removed and re installed my valve body , i just got lucky for sure!!
Appreciate you sharing the knowledge!!
I hope you do more of these VERY Informative C6 videos!! I cant wait for the C6 Shifter adjustment video.
Thanks again.
Glad it helped. Thanks for watching
Nice video, I'm always learning. Ive always done this adjustment externally (threaded rod on my cable) on my C4 installs.
C4 doesn't normally have an internal alignment issue like the C6 but always a good idea to check.
Great video!
I rebuilt a c6 a few years ago, first and last tranny I ever rebuilt. Just a stock rebuild with tow shift kit, and it will not shift on its own. Like the governor is stuck. But I’m going to check this alignment now when I go back into the valve body. Thanks for the video, I haven’t seen or read of this alignment issue
Im glad it helped. Automatic transmissions can be very humbling and frustrating for sure. Especially the older they get.
Hi Jay, I wonder if slotting the screw hole in the spring roller detent allowing it to be adjusted forward and back, could work as well? I think so but my concern would be if someone else later worked on the unit not knowing and removed it for cleaning or whatever and put it back in wrong, oops, that would not be good. Bending the internal link like you did, probably is better since it won't change if removed.
Its a good idea but I agree never give the customer something to adjust. Thats why I dont put adjustable pressure regulators on my valve bodies. They love to just go ahead and tighten them up and never check the pressure.
@@BroaderPerformance You are right, too easy for someone to mess up later. There's also a chance that moving the detent spring could cause a geometry angle change which wouldn't be good.
Setting mine was a real pain. I ended up with .026 in the bore reverse, N- .240 out , D- .501 out , 2nd- .770 out , 1st - 1.019 out. It probably took me an hour and a half to get it this close.
It can be a pain but well worth it I assure you.
Hey jay, I watched the video front to back. Great video. I will be doing my stock c6 with a trans go 67 1/2 kit. What are the measurements I should be aiming for on all the gears when adjusting?
Just follow the same procedure outlined in this video.
@@BroaderPerformance gotcha. Will do. Thank you!
Can this cause the car to stay. In reverse (as in wheels move in reverse) regardless if its in drive, reverse, L1 or L2? Mine is doing that after replacing the shifter shaft seals which required dropping valve body.
It can cause all kinds of crazy things because you experience cross leaks within the system.
Jay that's the reason I only use a C8AP upper casing for my Transbrake Valvebodies
Those do eliminate this check but the detent is not as positive as the late model. I prefer the late model when properly aligned.
Looking for a brake on my C6. Great video !
Thank you. We do sell transbrakes for the C6. Please visit www.broaderperformance.com
What pickup , filter and pan does the setup your showing come from? Is it something you offer also?
Not Jay but try to help. That is a Bronco or 4WD type filter . There is a factory tube slips in the same as that Nice one I'd say Jay has fabricated
This is a Trick flow style aluminum pan. Summit also copied it so those pans use this style pickup tube as well. We are not offering them currently because they seem to keep going out of stock these days.
Found a crack in the slil yolk...
After running liw on fluid... i cant seem to get auto drive. I can manually shift down to ake off? Any tips?
If you ran it low on fluid you may need to freshen the unit. Im really not sure.
@@BroaderPerformance I appreciate it. Was going to open the valve body and hope the best.
How do they get bent in the first place and what keeps them from bending again?
It's typically because the cores we get are man handled. Another thing is when you swap valve bodies they are slightly different dimensionally.
Would this becoming misaligned cause all cars to be reverse?
I'm not sure I understand sorry.
That NE Jersey accent is the worst sounding in the USA.
Hems and hauls around talking talking in that annoying accent. Bro get to the point...
DOes that mean you wont be my friend?? Ill do it in a French accent for you next time.
Man I hope this is my answer
1st time and I thing this may have been my mistake
