9000rpm in a ‘77 Toyota Celica. Is an F22c the Perfect Celica Motor Swap?

  • This right here is a car built off of a seat. Yep, you heard that right. Midnight Purple Pearl looks. When Peter Vong got his hands on a set of super rare Bride seats, he knew he needed to put them in something worthy of the rareness. And that car is an RA24 Toyota Celica - one of the finest examples of old school JDM muscle. And powering it is a Honda F22c (out of an AP2 S2000) slathered in neochrome in an engine bay shaved to unreal levels of cleanliness.

I can’t explain how much I love this car. My first new car was a 2000 6 speed Celica GT-S. I built the car and drove the hell out of it from auto-x to over 100 1/4 mile runs. I convinced my dad to get and s2000 which he still has to this day. I drive it to this day and my son loves the s2000. This car is amazing.

I am fortunate to still have my 75 Celica St. I drive it very little has 43,000 original miles. And remains mostly stock.
I also have a 76 Celica GT liftback. It has a stock rear window louver, much larger ducktail spoiler, molded in front spoiler, and fender flares coming straight down in back into mud flaps, much like the older vets. "Or vans" I am in the process of putting in a Toyota century V12 with 6-speed. This car has had various engines over the years and it has well over five hundred thousand miles on it. Only wish I still had my 76 Hilux double cab 1 ton with the dualies it was a 77 I do have an 80 4 x4. I'm old-school so it sits on a 7in Skyjacker suspension with 37" tires 5:29 gears, air lockers front and rear. And a 2nd Marlin crawler low range to Double double Down. It has a stroked 22R with large valves and ported head.
I love Toyotas. All these vehicles I purchased new decades ago. As well as many others over the years.

My Datsun came with a lot of that Oklahoma rust as well haha. I'm in the middle of restoring the metal as we speak.

“Balanced power” wise words. I used to run a turbo’d Na Miata, the 1.6 would run 155 wheel at 7psi and 210 at 12/13. Definitely not the fastest Miata out there, but on the twisty rural roads of Somerset Uk, it would seriously embarrass many much faster, heavily built cars. The key was the suspension set up, the right tyres and a motor that would willingly give you all you needed, but not too much. And now I drive a 20 yr old Jag XJ8, that’s being in your 40’s for you......

Kieran Murphy yes mate! I lived 20mins from the gorge on the edge of the Mendips when I had the mx5. There’s some prime driving roads in the area and always used to be quite a few modified toys about. You near to the area? Peace

Cool Celica I had a 1977 liftback model. Headers, high performance cam, western wheels. Stock 20R engine. I ended up having to sell it But it went to a person who worked at a classic car dealership.
