Doctors ask you to score your pain level from 1-10 i guess people score pain experience the same way when in fact, one persons painful grief is on a similar level from a worse experience...

This is what a REAL conversation IS, shared between two friends, shared with the world. Thank you for this conversation. Real friends talk. No judgement. No freaking canceling one another. Just raw conversation.
HIIIPOWER 000 i think it’s how he perceives his self. He doesn’t believe he is. I don’t think he cares for compliments after all he’s been through. May you all have a blessed day.
This was a rollercoaster, I saw myself in David and that was extremely deep, I am so torn up by most of this because I'm in a dark place in life. It hurt me just to listen but ultimately it helped me. Thank you for having such a real and deep conversation about your mental states and health. This gave me a little comfort to hear that this is something real and I'm not crazy
Joe Villa overall by the objective definition, he didn’t speak “fluid”, by definition he spoke fluently. I can’t add anything else to the conversation, you have his example of speaking, hell he pointed it out himself, you have the definitions of the words written up by ole Webster’s dictionary. 🤷🏼♂️ it is what it is. A great example of a fluid AND fluent speaker is Ben Shapiro, watch him then watch then this.
I like choe. Hes so brave and yet humble. And is vulnerable enough to speak the insecurities. But what he doesn't realize is how strong and brave he is

Maybe David comes back to this video and reads the comments. If so, just know you have one of the biggest hearts. It's the reason you feel so much. Such a brave and real person. Keep talking! You're pulling strings with your words that people need tugged in order to allow themselves to feel. That's the first step towards improving our own lives. It's powerful.
@Hugh Mongous you're whole narrative was cringe, and your perspective is insecure, inaccurate, and the sound of your pee hitting the toilet sounds feminine.
@Hugh Mongous funny how David thought exactly like you. He scoffs at the therapist with all these pus*y tactics but finally does it for himself. Good luck man
An insanely talented, wealthy artist that has seen the world, has many of the same issues and grievances as regular people. Very humbling and inspiring.
This man made me laugh and on the verge of breaking down crying while on a train, and I’m honestly sad that I’ll never listen to a podcast this good EVER again. 10/10
check out healthygamergg on youtube / twitch tv, there is a harvard psychiatrist talking to regular people and also twitch streamers about all kinds of mental health related topics. Its fascinating to watch, and you learn alot about yourself aswell
This is one of Joe’s most important podcasts. The raw male emotion that he portrayed is what a lot of us are feeling. A lot of men are feeling the same things and we don’t know where to go, or what to do. So for the bottom of my heart, hang in there Kings. Go to the gym, read a book, ponder the universe, get close to your families. Find purpose and never let it burn out.
Well said, I endorse your remedy. I'd add that people need to make themselves of service to something greater than themselves whether that's a great ideal, a positive vision for your country, the world but definitely your family first and then your community. We need to create community and build something.. communities have been dismantled in the modern world, in North America it seems to have been decimated. I think that being caught up in the self and what you lack that others have is a big problem that making yourself directed towards a higher good than yourself can remedy, especially as you gain competence, respect and can see the product of your efforts. We need to be proactive and build community and go out on a limb and bring people together for the common good... go start a forestization project in your town or a clean-up effort, or a social program for kids... bring people together and help them be of service to others too.
David Choe, in case you read through the comments, you're a beautiful soul and we're lucky to have you in this world. Thank you for being you and being on this planet.
Thank you gentlemen! As a 49 year old woman from little wee New Zealand, that was the most epic therapy session I’ve ever had the privilege of experiencing. More humans would benefit from speaking this openly and honestly…. Seriously, my mind has been blown ❤❤❤ Roe and Choe, winning combo! X

I lose count of how many times I've watched this. Such an inspirational man. What I'd give to have someone like him to talk to while I'm struggling at the moment, just for a reality check
I love seeing how he was so nervous and felt like not good enough to be on here and the general consensus turns out this is one of the best episodes ever
It’s nice to see a man being completely honest about his emotions and trying to build himself to a healthier person. It’s rare for media to show a man cry, and it’s nice to see that in today’s world we don’t have to bury our emotions as much as we use to 10 years ago. It’s a hard transition but I do respect any men I see sharing real emotions in public because it’s extremely difficult for me and most other men
I think the suppression of male feelings and upholding the war like mentality is the reason why the human race is so juvenile and unevolved. Once we all help secure rights for all marginalized people then we can pull apart the thousands year old idea of men not being able to express emotion. Once we can start expressing emotions freely without the fear of being ridiculed or judged and be supported then the world will become more balanced and harmonious.
@@thomasrainbow Agreed. I love Joe's open mindedness and willingness to expose tens of millions of voices to voices that need bigger audiences. He's side stepping the MSM and that's they've been trying to destroy him with ridiculous smear tactics. Joe and his guests broke down crying while talking about the innocence project and men who've been wrongly convicted. It was a beautiful moment. The truth is that many of the men who make fun of genuine emotion are the most sensitive people around, which is why they fight against their emotions so fiercely. This world be a lot healthier if honest human emotion was expressed more freely.
@D Smith This man has lived more than you ever have and is more successful than you ever will be. There's plenty to admire here. Your opinion is worthless.
@@ericboc5656the episode of tiger belly with David on it, where he was being an authentically kind and encouraging friend to Bobby Lee. I cried because I wish I had a friend who cares about me like that.
You forget but you don’t just try and remember traumatic experiences, you relive them, that’s how he is able to go into such detail and why he pauses so much
I agree also with the people citing trauma. Seems like he was mostly referring to his short to mid term memory as well. As in the example he gave where he said he couldn't recall the names of characters even after watching hours of them.
For sure. I was hoping Post Malone was gonna be interesting. BORING!! This guy, I never heard of was waaaaaaaay more fascinating, funny, interesting, and just a great storyteller.
i mean posty was on mushrooms and didn’t sleep he says in the beginning he hadn’t slept so i don’t blame him for being uninteresting and probably loopy. it was a boring episode lol some funny moments but they both ate mushrooms so 🤷🏻♂️
Colton Chavez i would say being on mushrooms should make for a much better podcast. I am a fan of Post Malone, but he’s not going to enlighten anyone with wisdom.
Felt like I was just abducted and taken on some manic, primordial safari through my own issues and even crazier shit with a side stop in the depths of Africa by some psychadelic lion-man. Cried along with him when he talked about Bourdain and losing friends to suicide. That's a pain that never goes away. That was a fucking REAL one.
This podcast gave me the confidence to get back into having psychedelic experiences. I've been afraid of myself this whole time, not the experience I may have.
Doesn’t sound that free. I remember seeing this guy awhile ago and now he seems like he’s been on a journey with a lot of mushrooms and a lot of fear. If you jumped into his mind I don’t think you’d find peace and harmony. Also I’m a ginger, how dare he.
LSD 25 And many people don’t run into the abuses and things he’s had to feel the need for rehabs, and complete honesty to be sure to keep yourself straight. We all have issues. But just because someone is very talkative and has perspective on their life doesn’t mean they’ve seen the light. I’d take a guess day to day, I have a much easier time and even with my issues have my mind more aligned. He seems like the type that needs to talk to sort out his mind, but in silence he has a lot more troubles going on
You think he isn't hiding but he is hiding probably more than most people. When you have a life with so many experiences that leave such a strong impression on you, you don't have a choice anymore but to hide something. You know how he talks about the different versions of him in the podcast? Without even trying, the very perspective he is in changes what part of him is hiding and what part is up front. His life is so complex, that there isn't enough time in the day to play out every part of himself. Drowning in amped up activities to not have to feel any of the perspectives gets harder and harder, so I am glad for him that he has managed to escape that and be at least one version of his authentic self. He will always be living as a fractured piece, shifting from one fragment to another though unless he reaches full ego death. He might!
The beginning was hard to watch bc I don’t know this guy but after a minute u realize this dude David choe is the most interesting guest on the pod ever
That raw pain David showed when talking about Bourdain was something else. When I lost a friend, who was more like a brother, to suicide during the pandemic, I could feel that.
I feel the same, I saw it posted and didn't watch it for a while thinking it wouldn't be all that good. A mistake I keep making with this podcast, I've never watched an episode and not found it atleast enjoyable if not riveting.
I swear the best podcasts are the ones that you don't see coming. I didn't know anything about David Choe and when I saw the thumbnail I thought who the hell is this now?! Little did I know.
I'm 40 minutes in and this man is the rawest.. most honest voice of mental health that i have ever heard. Complete and utter respect for sharing these stories.
Dude. I remember all my overseas trip on vacations many years ago. A lot of times I can’t remember what I did 3 days ago. Some people have troubling remembering what happen on boring repetitive days.
This one was different! Joe doesn’t read the comments but whoever does that can contact him...please bring David Choe back! This episode was OUTSTANDING!
"I don't hate myself but I'm never happy" I feel this, because I experience a lot of anger towards myself for shortcomings and failures, but I know I gave it my all, I don't hate myself, it's like, disappointment in the situation, and then I take a crack at it again on a totally empty tank and usually make mu whole situation worse someway somehow
I love that this is allowed to exist. 4 Hours of awesome conversation. Dave didnt promote anything, joe didnt want to sell you anything. Things like this are so rare in our rotten society.
I just did a therapy session with David Choe.. I started the day not knowing who he was.. now I feel like a new person and I love this guy.. Please lord give this man some peace in this life.
Does anyone still watch this? I don’t even how many times I have watched this episode. I love this guy podcasting, talking with people. The way he talks and thinks is just inspiring and human well-being.
2024! This is one of the rare episodes that I can watch from start to end. He's such a fascinating guy and him and Joe have such good chemistry where David is comfortable enough to share such deep stories.
Normally just watch Joe's interviews with scientists, but David's stories were completely engrossing. He has a real gift in his ability to convey the emotion of his experiences. Great guest

Yeah, I started with the clips but it was so good I had to sit down and listen to the whole thing. Also don't click on that hyperlink that guy linked these people have malicious intent. and don't donate to that other guy either. Bad people up to no good. But yeah This was my favorite episode of JRE thus far.
I’m never gonna have a better experience listening to another podcast. I laughed, I cried, I was anxious and I was taken away by how this man revealed his thoughts and feelings. Thank you David for being the way you are.
I nearly skipped this one and I'm so glad I didn't. What a story and Choe I love the way you talk, sound and your mindset is powerful. I feel like when you were living with Hadza, that natural state of no addiction and the real way to live, was probably what you need forever. The natural state is what we are all missing.
I absolutely agree. I took a drive to the country yesterday with my youngest daughter & it was invigorating! The air was so clean & pure, as it was meant to be. We turned our phones off & stopped at a field. We layed down on the fresh cut wheat, starring into the perfect blue sky while the biggest most fluffy clouds passed us by. It was a beautiful moment that is still with me. Then watching this podcast the very next day made so much sense to me. I'm still in awe....of both experiences.
This is your best guest Joe Rogan... ever. The thing with Choe is he thinks hes alone in his way of thinking but he is not we are all Choe we are all self critical and anxious depressed at times and filled with doubt and uncertainty , life is tough man but your not afraid to admit it which is an admirable quality..stay strong brothers were all gonna make it 👊🏾👊🏻
Look everyone... at roughly the 3 hour mark... David started addressing a lot of trauma I have been coping with my entire life. I didn't know people could have these dialogues out in the open. I can't stop crying. for the first time in my life I don't feel alone... i think I can do better... i think I will be ok.. but please people understand that some of us really really suffer every day and thank you so much. I don't feel alone anymore.. Thank you David... I didn't know who you were before this podcast but I really appreciate you.
one amazing thing about this podcast is Joes compassion, hes so on point because David wears his heart on his sleeve and you can see his emotions rise but wont let him overreact.
As someone who grew up in Africa and spent a lot of time in the bush and find these animal experiences ´normal´, it is so nice to hear how people who did not grow up with this, experience Africa, it´s beautiful. It cannot be explained until you experience it.
13:46 "i can write "i am enough" but i don't believe it because i can sit here and tell you how many times i wasn't enough" that hit me way too hard man.
props to rogan for dropping knowledge so early on: “you comparing yourself to the other people? you gotta let that go right now. you are you who are. the other people cant do what you do.” thats something we can all take to heart. and props to choe for being so real throughout. stick w/ the therapy - it's doing you great! this nearly 4 hours of honest talk is something men should be able to do often and openly. talk to each other honestly and without judgement or fear of retribution. man, this episode was therapeutic.
This is the realest, most relatable, hilarious podcast I ever seen. The honesty of this man , literally takes my insecurities and depression away. U are a true American hero dave
My mom is Korean and during the 60’s Korea wasn’t as economically thriving as it is now. She was a young child like 12 years old. She told me as the oldest she couldn’t go to school and was forced into child labor by her parents. At 12 years old one day she was sent away to live with a rich family as a maid. She is so traumatized by that. She is in her mid sixties and she still is brought to tears when she talks about it.
You can tell he wanted to be as honest as he possibly good to Joe Rogan. After being in a hiatus for a while this is where he wanted to let people back in his life pretty much. You can tell he rehearsed some of what he said. He was like sticking to a script so he wouldn’t say the wrong things but the real ness and honesty just came out and he ran with it.
This might be one of the most amazing interviews I've ever heard. David truly helped me through a lot of stuff just listening to how vulnerable and honest he is. Im a fan for life
I can’t believe I almost skipped this one. I figured an “artist, muralist, painter and graffiti artist” would not interest me. I really needed this. I’ve been struggling for a long while now, I wouldn’t say I’m suicidal and I don’t want to die but I think about it all the time just out of lack of other options to turn my life around and I can’t bring myself to ask for help because I want people to think I’m good or successful or whatever. Even for little stuff like asking how to do paperwork or taxes and then little things turn to big things.
Be gentle with yourself bro, don't fall into traps of comparison with the external, just focus on the relationship you have with yourself, find what you enjoy and move towards it, slowly. Big love x
I hope that you read these comments and replies you're sure to have. Yes, there will be trolls and morons who say rude or hurtful things. This is the pattern of the internet and human psyche. It's the way of the beast. But the majority of people would be happy to talk to you and to tell you that you're not alone. You should never think that suicide will help in any way. If even not just for yourself but the people around you. People who care about you. Just like David said, you're a perfectly imperfect, unrepeatable miracle of the universe. Just remember that. You're great and I think you could be even better if you wanted.

His speech is fluent^^****
Joe Villa overall by the objective definition, he didn’t speak “fluid”, by definition he spoke fluently. I can’t add anything else to the conversation, you have his example of speaking, hell he pointed it out himself, you have the definitions of the words written up by ole Webster’s dictionary. 🤷🏼♂️ it is what it is. A great example of a fluid AND fluent speaker is Ben Shapiro, watch him then watch then this.
There's a million people out there listening to this and at some level EVERY person needed to hear this.

Keep strong man!
This hit me hard. Appreciate the message and sending positive vibes to you Dan!
Thanks man! Good vibes
Great message but be careful, it's looked down upon these days to have real conversations.

Joe and his guests broke down crying while talking about the innocence project and men who've been wrongly convicted. It was a beautiful moment. The truth is that many of the men who make fun of genuine emotion are the most sensitive people around, which is why they fight against their emotions so fiercely. Trauma
I didn’t mind losing brain cells in the post malone podcast, but this podcast is the epitome of why i listen to the JRE.

That was a fucking REAL one.
💯
This podcast gave me the confidence to get back into having psychedelic experiences. I've been afraid of myself this whole time, not the experience I may have.
The way David talks about himself at the beginning, is literally describing how I feel about myself
This man's mind is open and free. That makes him very vulnerable but also allows him to experience the most amazing things in life.
That's why he's a great artist
Yeah and that $250 million of FB stock he fell on to helps too!
Doesn’t sound that free. I remember seeing this guy awhile ago and now he seems like he’s been on a journey with a lot of mushrooms and a lot of fear. If you jumped into his mind I don’t think you’d find peace and harmony. Also I’m a ginger, how dare he.
He'll tell you he's still working on himself.
He seems like the type that needs to talk to sort out his mind, but in silence he has a lot more troubles going on
This guy is who everyone else would be if we didn’t hide

@@KociKociamber Bruh, it sounds like you dont even know that ur hiding.
Kociamber i’m gonna have to agree with you
You think he isn't hiding but he is hiding probably more than most people. He might!

Same. His story telling is so captivating

Yeah, I started with the clips but it was so good I had to sit down and listen to the whole thing. Also don't click on that hyperlink that guy linked these people have malicious intent. and don't donate to that other guy either. Bad people up to no good. But yeah This was my favorite episode of JRE thus far.
@@StayMadNobodycares Also came right after seeing a clip hahaha
I’m never gonna have a better experience listening to another podcast. I laughed, I cried, I was anxious and I was taken away by how this man revealed his thoughts and feelings. Thank you David for being the way you are.
Beta
Diego Martinez, I don’t know you but I’m sorry for what you’re going through, if you need someone to talk to know that I’ll always be there for you.
CyberPoodle the world needs more people like you
CyberPoodle damn man. Fuckin hear ya !
CyberPoodle Solid response. 👌🏼
I freaking cried and sobbed by 12:36
God.
I felt like new neural pathways were being created watching this. This is exactly what I needed. Thank you Joe and David.
This is your best guest Joe Rogan... ever.
The thing with Choe is he thinks hes alone in his way of thinking but he is not we are all Choe we are all self critical and anxious depressed at times and filled with doubt and uncertainty , life is tough man but your not afraid to admit it which is an admirable quality..stay strong brothers were all gonna make it 👊🏾👊🏻
Not me
ok
Very well said
No. We really are not going to make it man. The majority of us just won’t.
Garden Organic yep u 2
Look everyone... at roughly the 3 hour mark... David started addressing a lot of trauma I have been coping with my entire life. I didn't know people could have these dialogues out in the open. I can't stop crying. for the first time in my life I don't feel alone... i think I can do better... i think I will be ok.. but please people understand that some of us really really suffer every day and thank you so much. I don't feel alone anymore.. Thank you David... I didn't know who you were before this podcast but I really appreciate you.
🙂
bless up :)

Much love for you brother!
Joe really is a good guy too. His ability to respond empathetically is amazing.
one amazing thing about this podcast is Joes compassion, hes so on point because David wears his heart on his sleeve and you can see his emotions rise but wont let him overreact.
There are times when Joe’s guest are entertaining. But this guys. 4 hours that I didn’t want to end. Just incredible.
This is the greatest JRE episode

Michael Atkinson the stories of him in Africa are fucken nuts. Makes me wanna go
Most brilliant artists were fucking insane. This guy is on that legendary level. I wish him well.
A true artist
Most brilliant artists were not insane in any meaning of that word. That's a romantic stereotype.
The realest podcast I’ve heard in a long time. Much respect to David for being open about this stuff.
As someone who grew up in Africa and spent a lot of time in the bush and find these animal experiences ´normal´, it is so nice to hear how people who did not grow up with this, experience Africa, it´s beautiful. It cannot be explained until you experience it.
13:46 "i can write "i am enough" but i don't believe it because i can sit here and tell you how many times i wasn't enough" that hit me way too hard man.
props to rogan for dropping knowledge so early on:
“you comparing yourself to the other people?
you gotta let that go right now.
you are you who are.
the other people cant do what you do.”
thats something we can all take to heart.
and props to choe for being so real throughout.
stick w/ the therapy - it's doing you great!
this nearly 4 hours of honest talk is something men should be able to do often and openly.
talk to each other honestly and without judgement or fear of retribution.
man, this episode was therapeutic.
This is the realest, most relatable, hilarious podcast I ever seen. The honesty of this man , literally takes my insecurities and depression away. U are a true American hero dave
Mate listen to JRE previous episodes with David Choe and also listen to DVDASA David Choe’s Old Podcast if you can still find one.
@awesomeguynamedjon why do you think he's a narcissistic psychopath?
My mom is Korean and during the 60’s Korea wasn’t as economically thriving as it is now. She was a young child like 12 years old. She told me as the oldest she couldn’t go to school and was forced into child labor by her parents. At 12 years old one day she was sent away to live with a rich family as a maid. She is so traumatized by that. She is in her mid sixties and she still is brought to tears when she talks about it.
Can you share some of her experiences?
Joe’s not even in charge of this show, he’s just going along for the ride with the rest of us.
Man I hope david know hes literally rare af and we need people with that type of caring energy he has love u man

Pffftt I have 3 orange Asian Jesus”s, so common...
"I'm here...why don't I just experience this fully?!" -David Choe. I bow deeply to you, my brother!!!
Choe don't like Chinese jokes don't bow he will get pissed😂🤣😂
Definitely one of the best podcasts Joe has down
David is like the absolute craziest most normal dude that’s ever been on this show
Leonardo gonçalves You are clearly dont have friends
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Man makes the money. Money don't make the man
David Choe is the most sane, insane person I've ever heard talk.
LMAOOOO
Facts lol
This is an epitome of a TH-cam comment right here good shit 😂😂
He is not insane at all, he is completely open and in touch with all that is!
so true
That last hour might be the most eye opening shit I’ve ever heard or seen. Absolutely amazing
This is how a real person is like.
Or how we’re all like at one time or another
This is lowkey a therapy session.
This is highkey a therapy session haha , an interesting dude nonetheless
You can tell he wanted to be as honest as he possibly good to Joe Rogan. After being in a hiatus for a while this is where he wanted to let people back in his life pretty much. You can tell he rehearsed some of what he said. He was like sticking to a script so he wouldn’t say the wrong things but the real ness and honesty just came out and he ran with it.
Absolutely right
the key is in heaven its so damn HIGH
No joke
“Im not a great story teller” proceeds to tell great stories
Did a bad job telling them
This is the funniest Joe Rogan video where Joe talks about being eaten by a praying mantis! th-cam.com/video/yVcd6YbSgBA/w-d-xo.html
joe mama no he didn’t
@@jeremymartin5541 lol no he didn't? Lil joe mama got a chip on his shoulder here
I think it has more to do with how intense and unique his experiences are than the way he tells them.
It's ok to ask for help dude.
@@georgemartinez1724 I have no idea what you are talking about but I was a pot/pill head skateboarder in high school
geroge martinez Nope, definitely wasn’t a jock or a straight edge. It wasn’t that art doesn’t interest me, just my expectation of what the discussion would be about and just where I’m at mentally.
My heart broke when Dave started crying about Anthony Bourdain
@Perfect username alright, I don't think it was but each to their own
@Perfect username You are fake.
100% real
Dude I was hurting. I have too many friends that have committed suicide. That was definitely a real reaction to speaking about him.

And he’s just one that’s known to the world and has had a chance to be heard. There are many interesting humans that have lived very wild lives. He, along with countless others, are in fact: precious gems.
@@HashslingingSLASHER92 yah. Talk to more homeless folks.
@@dairymoon7571 Absolutely. I’ve met some pretty awesome homeless folks who’ve lived wild lives.
At a point in my life, I ended up living with a practically homeless 70 year old drag queen who had no teeth, a wholesome collection of Tina turner and Whitney Houston tapes, and copd.
I couldn’t imagine not wanting the chance to talk with him and getting to know her story. May you Rest In Peace Ron. 💜 People can offer a great deal of fulfillment and comfort in life.

ive watched hundreds of joe's podcasts and this is one of the best, most interesting and engaging guests ive ever seen. damn what a guy
Check out his old podcast DVDASA...you gotta dig for it but its around
Agreed brother
I hope David Choe knows that his openness to talk about himself and his "shortcomings" is so beneficial for those out there that go through similar struggles, money aside, he's really provided me a service listening to him. Thanks.
I have nothing but the utmost respect, for people like him.. He’s a genuine dude
I like that he blames racism for so many things.
I'm 10 minutes into this and already have so much respect for this guy just saying how he feels.
This is the funniest Joe Rogan moment
😂 th-cam.com/video/yVcd6YbSgBA/w-d-xo.html
Andrzej Klein racism is very prominent. Especially growing up before the 2000s. Cause you don’t experience it doesn’t mean others don’t.
I could listen to this guy talk about his life for hours. And I did.
We all did bro. I discovered this guy through this podcast. My favourite podcast so far
Yup
@@Thawhid go watch what he just did with Bobby on Tigerbelly. Never seen anyone talk to Bobby like that, just trying to get through to him. It was crazy to watch.

So wholesome how David asks Joe what his threshold for compliments is, very productive communication as well. What a gem of a guy!
