Heck with it, I'm making an explanation about the video and the lyrics. 0:05 - The witch is wearing fish earrings, which is a prominent symbol of christianity, we can take here that she represents Jesus judging from the next clips. 0:09 - Is a direct parallel of the last supper, since the character with yellow sleeves here is in the same place as Judas, we can say she represents Judas. 0:13 - May represent witch burning, but I believe it's a similar clue to the Crucification of Jesus Christ. 0:170:18 - The yellow sleeves (We'll just call her the maid) is kneeling in prayer through 0:26. 0:34 - As the light passes through her figure changes to a red flower, which represents love, or intoxication. 0:41 - The witch's figure turns to a white flower instead, which represents death. 0:46 - The witch is seen healing someone, which perhaps represents Jesus healing the blind man in the bible. 0:55 - We clearly see the maid envious of the suitor, her figure is yellow, which in the cardinal sin represents greed, in a bid for wanting to have the witch all for herself. Through all the dancing moments their figures become more colorful, this is most likely in the maid's POV of her falling in love with the witch. 1:29 - We get a close up zoom of a dinner plate, and a wine glass, the wine glass is in the same place where the red flowers where, which I believe could probably supplement my idea that the flowers meant intoxication instead, as if the maid was getting an addiction towards the witch's love. 1:37 - There is no sign of the witch at all, if the witch died it would make sense this way. 1:42 - We see posters depicting the witch selling her soul to the devil, which was a common belief during the witch hunts on how witches got their power. 1:43 - The maid is seen carrying a book with arcane symbolism, most likely a book used by witches. 1:45 - Another depiction of the Last Supper, this time with the rest of the maid's faces blotched out in black, this is in the POV of the maid, others around her becoming irrelevant except for the witch. 1:51 - This may be a far fetch but the bird cage is empty, in the bible birds represented still being loved by God, the bird cage is empty so maybe God gave up on her because of her basically selling her soul to the devil too for the Witch's love. 1:55 - This the the first time the witch has a flower motif, they are colorless along with her, but the primary color is white which could be a throwback to 0:41. 2:04 - The rain is the same color as the witch's robes, which could maybe represent her blood and how the maid embraced it (A reference to Jesus' blood being wine.) In the next dance scene the other faces are crossed out. 2:24 - Some posters depicting the witch being hunted down for being a witch. 2:27 - The maid is trying to explain something judging from her pose. 2:28 - A patron is telling a priest about the maid, maybe suspicious of her. 2:31 - The witch is pointing at the maid as if accusing her. 2:33 - The maid is carrying the witch book with traces of its magic in her hands, it could mean she used it for something. 3:00 - The maid (I assume) is buying the raincoat so she can't be recognized, since she is forbidden from where the witch is located. 3:07 - The figures of the other maids appear to be whispering to eachother, as if talking about the other maid. Through 3:12, we see the witch's figure completely dissapear as if the maid is dancing alone, along with having no one around her, this possibly hints on what she did with the book. 3:13 we can see the witch turn into a skeleton, meaning she's dead of course. 3:19 - The witch is expressionless in the last cycles, unlike the first ones where she still smiles, which could be them repeating their dance in different circumstances from before. 3:22 - The maid is strangling the witch, this time the witch's face is blotched out like everyone else's. Here's what I think: 0:13 happened after their first dance together, the witch was burned to death which explains why the maid became more detached. The maid represents Judas - who ended up betraying the Witch (who in this case represents Jesus) because she sold her soul to the devil in order to be able to revive her. This witch being dead idea came from multiple different points which is 0:41, 1:37, 1:51, 1:55, 2:04, 2:24. The sole idea here is that after the maid was able to revive the witch through necromancy, instead of loving her like before she was hated by her instead, with 0:17, 0:18, 0:34, the maid instead of feeling hate is still madly in love with the witch to the point of insanity despite the witch being dead for a while. After being caught using black magic she was chased out, and bought a raincoat in order to disguise herself to be able to go back in where the witch was. The witch wasn't the same, since all that was left was basically just a shell. TL:DR, maid goes insane over love, revives dead loved one, becomes witch herself, damnit.
Ok so I already knew the story of this song but BRO I NEVR NOTICED THESE TINY DETAILS THATS SO COOL. SLAY. Your connections to the Bible were all accurate but i don’t think the story is. - I doubt the witch dies till the end, rather, the intro was kinda just a quick summary of the story as a whole. and I don’t think the whole revival idea really happened (once again, I hope I don’t sound rude, sorry) - I think there is one thing I would like to say about the book. You mentioned it might’ve been a book used by witches, but it looks more like a book to hunt witches, since there is an x on the witch hat. I think the maid betrayed the witch “out of love” the way Judas did by ratting the witch out.I believe the book had an aura because the witch was mad that the maid agreed to get paid to rat on the witch, and the witch burns the book -I think the witch and maid dancing at the end was their last moments together. Despite knowing she was going to die because of the maid, she offered to dance, possibly referencing the fact that Jesus still loved Judas even when he knew of his betrayal. the Maid's book is Malleus Maleficarum which is a book used for witch hunting. the Witch know Maid had thought of betraying her, that's why Maid has that book in her possession. "One of you will betray me" the Maid wasn't trying to persuade the priest to not arrest Witch, she's fulfilling the prophecy.

I just noticed at 2:04 the people walking past in the background look a lot like the maid and witch, the only difference is the white haired person has short hair. I wonder if that has anything to do with how in the old days they thought that cutting a witch's hair removed her power. Like maybe it's the maid's imagining a carefree life they could live if only the witch just gave up on helping people with her magic. Also if they are supposed to be the maid's ideal version of them both, it's pretty telling that the white haired girl is sharing her umbrella, while the real maid is running away from the witch and towards her fantasy.

I don't know this song but I listen to a lot of your covers and they always have interesting stories and premises. Not to mention your voice and the translated lyrics are a perfect combo. Although I'm a little confused about the story this song is trying to tell
This song was written for the game Project Sekai, actually. It's a rhythm game that features vocaloids and original characters, and this song was commissioned for an event. The event is basically a story, and the premise is about a group of four who share the feeling of 'wanting to disappear'. The groups goal is craft a song to get this one girl (Mafuyu) to feel emotions and smile genuinely. Meanwhile, another person from the group, Mizuki, feels like they haven't been able to get closer to the group because of a secret that made a lot of people leave them in the past. There's been speculation as to what this secret is (likely to do with their gender as they're the only person in the game whose gender has been ambiguous). As a result they begin to distance themselves from the group despite feeling pained by it because they know that once their secret is revealed, they'll be lonely again. But one of their friends from the group (Ena) notices that person acting strangely and tries to pull them back in again, hence the chorus singing of hoping a friend can find a chance to stay (that friend being Mizuki). It mirrors the main goal of one girl (Kanade) trying to 'save' the girl who lost her emotions (Mafuyu) (all these people are in the same music-making group), where Mafuyu heard Kanade's song and managed to smile a little, but then wasn't able to find that smile again. Meanwhile Mizuki initially found that hanging out with the group was fun, but has now lost that feeling due to feeling pain at the same time, knowing just like everybody else, they'll all leave after finding out the secret. That's why I love the line 'then don't give up on that feeling' and 'this precious feeling, the reason for my being'. There's also the theory about solely the video that's separate from Project Sekai, which is more religious and based off Osamu Dazai's book; a version where Judas fell in love with Jesus, got his heart broken and betrayed Jesus as a result. Hopefully the group won't have the same ending.
The song is based on Osamu Dazai's short story 'Kakekomi uttae' (An Urgent Appeal), which is a dramatic retelling of Judas' betrayal of Jesus from the Bible. The short story itself takes the form of a monologue, in which Judas spills all the repressed thoughts and feelings that finally led up to him betraying Jesus. In the song, the witch wearing white with fish earrings represents Jesus, whilst the maid wearing the yellow ribbon represents Judas. The original short story shows that Judas loves Jesus. In fact, he states that he loves Jesus 'more than anyone, and that the 'craving of his love is stronger than any fear of punishment or fires of hell'. It was out of love and admiration that he abandoned the village of his homeland, and worked tirelessly thereafter to support Jesus' life of preaching behind the scenes (which is depicted around 1:51 in the song, when the girl is shown cleaning whilst everyone else is laughing together). Dazai writes Judas' love as something more personal rather than religious- with Judas during a seaside conversation with Jesus thinking that "if You alone would understand me-that would be enough" (this scene is illustrated around 1:06~1:24). However, as time went on, his ardent love for Jesus brought about feelings of loneliness and hatred. For the extent of his sacrifices, he felt under-appreciated- 'treated like dirt' and never thanked by Jesus or the other disciples. When he believed Jesus to have fallen in love with Mary of Bethany, he was also extremely jealous (as depicted around 0:53~1:02 in the song, where Mary is represented by the dude in green). And yet, despite all this, he remained resolute in staying by Jesus' side. In the song at 1:58, the yellow ribbon maid is comforted in the rain by the witch. However, as she is the only one without an umbrella, it goes to show how she was both mistreated and had her vulnerability taken advantage of. In the end, Judas' betrayal of Jesus is ultimately done out of love. Believing that Jesus' reckless actions (e.g destroying stables and verbally provoking his enemies) would inevitably get himself killed, Judas says that he'd 'rather hand him over to the authorities himself than let someone else do it'. Thinking himself as hated by Jesus, he loses hope in his feelings of love ever being reciprocated. Thus, in a way, Judas views Jesus' death as the only remnant of him that can monopolise. In the Bible, Judas outs Jesus to his conspirators by kissing him on the cheek- which is depicted by the whisper in the ear at 3:30. Something a little extra: The part of the song around 2:44~2:55 depicts how Judas ran from The Last Supper to the temple, where he would then out Jesus to the priests. In Dazai's story, Judas here looks up to chirping birds in the trees and tries to see the 'top of the branches' (which probably a reference to Judas' suicide in the Bible). I personally like to think that the lyrics of the song around this timestamp (crying with you, laughing with you, etc) relate to this, and imply that Judas had planned to follow Jesus in death all along. 1:29 - We get a close up zoom of a dinner plate, and a wine glass, the wine glass is in the same place where the red flowers where, which I believe could probably supplement my idea that the flowers meant intoxication instead, as if the maid was getting an addiction towards the witch's love.
1:37 - There is no sign of the witch at all, if the witch died it would make sense this way.
1:42 - We see posters depicting the witch selling her soul to the devil, which was a common belief during the witch hunts on how witches got their power.
1:43 - The maid is seen carrying a book with arcane symbolism, most likely a book used by witches.
1:45 - Another depiction of the Last Supper, this time with the rest of the maid's faces blotched out in black, this is in the POV of the maid, others around her becoming irrelevant except for the witch.
1:51 - This may be a far fetch but the bird cage is empty, in the bible birds represented still being loved by God, the bird cage is empty so maybe God gave up on her because of her basically selling her soul to the devil too for the Witch's love.
1:55 - This the the first time the witch has a flower motif, they are colorless along with her, but the primary color is white which could be a throwback to 0:41.
2:04 - The rain is the same color as the witch's robes, which could maybe represent her blood and how the maid embraced it (A reference to Jesus' blood being wine.)
In the next dance scene the other faces are crossed out.
2:24 - Some posters depicting the witch being hunted down for being a witch.
2:27 - The maid is trying to explain something judging from her pose.
2:28 - A patron is telling a priest about the maid, maybe suspicious of her.
2:31 - The witch is pointing at the maid as if accusing her.
2:33 - The maid is carrying the witch book with traces of its magic in her hands, it could mean she used it for something.
3:00 - The maid (I assume) is buying the raincoat so she can't be recognized, since she is forbidden from where the witch is located.
3:07 - The figures of the other maids appear to be whispering to eachother, as if talking about the other maid.
Through 3:12, we see the witch's figure completely dissapear as if the maid is dancing alone, along with having no one around her, this possibly hints on what she did with the book.
3:13 we can see the witch turn into a skeleton, meaning she's dead of course.
3:19 - The witch is expressionless in the last cycles, unlike the first ones where she still smiles, which could be them repeating their dance in different circumstances from before.
3:22 - The maid is strangling the witch, this time the witch's face is blotched out like everyone else's.
Here's what I think:
0:13 happened after their first dance together, the witch was burned to death which explains why the maid became more detached. The maid represents Judas - who ended up betraying the Witch (who in this case represents Jesus) because she sold her soul to the devil in order to be able to revive her. This witch being dead idea came from multiple different points which is 0:41, 1:37, 1:51, 1:55, 2:04, 2:24.
The sole idea here is that after the maid was able to revive the witch through necromancy, instead of loving her like before she was hated by her instead, with 0:17, 0:18, 0:34, the maid instead of feeling hate is still madly in love with the witch to the point of insanity despite the witch being dead for a while.
After being caught using black magic she was chased out, and bought a raincoat in order to disguise herself to be able to go back in where the witch was.
The witch wasn't the same, since all that was left was basically just a shell.
TL:DR, maid goes insane over love, revives dead loved one, becomes witch herself, damnit.

Your connections to the Bible were all accurate but i don’t think the story is.
- I doubt the witch dies till the end, rather, the intro was kinda just a quick summary of the story as a whole. and I don’t think the whole revival idea really happened (once again, I hope I don’t sound rude, sorry)

You mentioned it might’ve been a book used by witches, but it looks more like a book to hunt witches, since there is an x on the witch hat. I just noticed at 2:04 the people walking past in the background look a lot like the maid and witch, the only difference is the white haired person has short hair. I wonder if that has anything to do with how in the old days they thought that cutting a witch's hair removed her power. I don't know this song but I listen to a lot of your covers and they always have interesting stories and premises. Not to mention your voice and the translated lyrics are a perfect combo.
Although I'm a little confused about the story this song is trying to tell
This song was written for the game Project Sekai, actually. It's a rhythm game that features vocaloids and original characters, and this song was commissioned for an event. The event is basically a story, and the premise is about a group of four who share the feeling of 'wanting to disappear'. The groups goal is craft a song to get this one girl (Mafuyu) to feel emotions and smile genuinely.
Meanwhile, another person from the group, Mizuki, feels like they haven't been able to get closer to the group because of a secret that made a lot of people leave them in the past. There's been speculation as to what this secret is (likely to do with their gender as they're the only person in the game whose gender has been ambiguous). As a result they begin to distance themselves from the group despite feeling pained by it because they know that once their secret is revealed, they'll be lonely again. But one of their friends from the group (Ena) notices that person acting strangely and tries to pull them back in again, hence the chorus singing of hoping a friend can find a chance to stay (that friend being Mizuki). It mirrors the main goal of one girl (Kanade) trying to 'save' the girl who lost her emotions (Mafuyu) (all these people are in the same music-making group), where Mafuyu heard Kanade's song and managed to smile a little, but then wasn't able to find that smile again. Meanwhile Mizuki initially found that hanging out with the group was fun, but has now lost that feeling due to feeling pain at the same time, knowing just like everybody else, they'll all leave after finding out the secret.
That's why I love the line 'then don't give up on that feeling' and 'this precious feeling, the reason for my being'.
There's also the theory about solely the video that's separate from Project Sekai, which is more religious and based off Osamu Dazai's book; a version where Judas fell in love with Jesus, got his heart broken and betrayed Jesus as a result. Hopefully the group won't have the same ending.
The song is based on Osamu Dazai's short story 'Kakekomi uttae' (An Urgent Appeal), which is a dramatic retelling of Judas' betrayal of Jesus from the Bible. The short story itself takes the form of a monologue, in which Judas spills all the repressed thoughts and feelings that finally led up to him betraying Jesus. In the song, the witch wearing white with fish earrings represents Jesus, whilst the maid wearing the yellow ribbon represents Judas.
The original short story shows that Judas loves Jesus. In fact, he states that he loves Jesus 'more than anyone, and that the 'craving of his love is stronger than any fear of punishment or fires of hell'. It was out of love and admiration that he abandoned the village of his homeland, and worked tirelessly thereafter to support Jesus' life of preaching behind the scenes (which is depicted around 1:51 in the song, when the girl is shown cleaning whilst everyone else is laughing together). Dazai writes Judas' love as something more personal rather than religious- with Judas during a seaside conversation with Jesus thinking that "if You alone would understand me-that would be enough" (this scene is illustrated around 1:06~1:24).
However, as time went on, his ardent love for Jesus brought about feelings of loneliness and hatred. For the extent of his sacrifices, he felt under-appreciated- 'treated like dirt' and never thanked by Jesus or the other disciples. When he believed Jesus to have fallen in love with Mary of Bethany, he was also extremely jealous (as depicted around 0:53~1:02 in the song, where Mary is represented by the dude in green). And yet, despite all this, he remained resolute in staying by Jesus' side. In the song at 1:58, the yellow ribbon maid is comforted in the rain by the witch. However, as she is the only one without an umbrella, it goes to show how she was both mistreated and had her vulnerability taken advantage of.
In the end, Judas' betrayal of Jesus is ultimately done out of love. Believing that Jesus' reckless actions (e.g destroying stables and verbally provoking his enemies) would inevitably get himself killed, Judas says that he'd 'rather hand him over to the authorities himself than let someone else do it'. Thinking himself as hated by Jesus, he loses hope in his feelings of love ever being reciprocated. Thus, in a way, Judas views Jesus' death as the only remnant of him that can monopolise. In the Bible, Judas outs Jesus to his conspirators by kissing him on the cheek- which is depicted by the whisper in the ear at 3:30.
Something a little extra: The part of the song around 2:44~2:55 depicts how Judas ran from The Last Supper to the temple, where he would then out Jesus to the priests. In Dazai's story, Judas here looks up to chirping birds in the trees and tries to see the 'top of the branches' (which probably a reference to Judas' suicide in the Bible). I personally like to think that the lyrics of the song around this timestamp (crying with you, laughing with you, etc) relate to this, and imply that Judas had planned to follow Jesus in death all along.

@@chocomousse05 Thank you for the explanation! I knew that the maid character seems to be in live with the witch character but I was confused about their story. She did seem to betray the witch in a way. Now that I know the context/what the song is based on, it helped me understand the song
