I love seeing the OG's get love on these interviews - this and Drink Champs, giving them forums for full stories, detailed explanations of situations that used to be a mystery to us as fans, getting to hear their thought processes about the art over time... it's beautiful
Nature and Cormega the two most underrated MC’s ever. Great to see this interview.
AZ, BEANIE SIGEL, REDMAN, HALF A MILL
@@gangsaretheblackkkk6291 I wouldn’t say Redman…as soon as you think he’s not around anymore he pops up with a dope freestyle to remind people he still here
@@ADMAFIA210
True but when you speak on MC's who spit he is rarely mentioned.
Many will say Jada, Fab, Eminem, Styles P, even Jeezy , T.I & Ross
But in my heart of hearts Redman , AZ & BEANIE are Top25 Mc's
Nature cool, but not in Mega's class as an artist. Maybe just for dropping 16s but not for making whole songs

I’d bet Math was meaning to say “Curren$y” from New Orleans when he said Consequence, when he was trying to name other successful underground rappers that don’t make radio music at all. Speaking in my expert opinion, of course 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣💯

50 taking NaS off the record was simply a record label decision since both 50 and NaS were both on Sony/Columbia at that time.
Yeah, 50 was on Columbia through Trackmasters label, and Nas was on Columbia working closely with the Trackmasters at the time. Tone & Poke (Trackmasters) didn't wanna ruin anything with their label deal, or any of their relationships with Columbia.
Not only that but Nas & 50's big homie was Black Just (RIP). Nas & 50 ran w the same kinda dudes like Bimmy, Just & E Money Bags in Queens.
Facts
@@joshingram071 thought it was nas’ brother jungle that had that relationship
@@spek-27 nature was wrong. 50 cent said he specifically didnt include nas or AZ because he loves them so much he couldnt ever disrespect them. ther is no original version w nas name. the label issues stemmed from mariahs mention and she personally had tommy have the song changed to remove that part where she is mentioned
The Kool G anecdote is a important one. Kool G culturally his currency is high. Kool ZG wasn’t going to compromise his integrity tho. Kool G is your favorite rapper, favorite rapper. But, that’s always going to be the case when you keep your integrity. Kool G was strictly for the streets. And he birth a cohort of rappers he heavily influenced. His impact was huge. We still feeling the ripple effects of it.
Kool G Rap had a lot of things going on outside of music
FACTS!
Word. To Me Kool G Rap was the FIRST “Gangsta” Rapper from the East Coast.
He is always in my top 5 G Rap 🔥
I was a lil heated when everyone was going crazy over Big Pun, as if G-Rap wasn't already doing all of that. CLEARLY a Huge influence!
But the audience was ready for fresh meat by then.
Nature killed that joint "Time" with Nas and AZ. He had bars just so much going on at that time in space. A lot of cats caught up in that life/mind space back in the early to late 90s and took away from their focus.
I think he killed every joint he was on

“Nature’s Shine” on the For All Seasons album is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
nas included nature shines on his album I AM. nas ultimately gave nature one of the greatest looks ever.
Nature hasn’t been able to answer a question. From the Nas fallout and touring etc
Banned from TV verse is historical SALUTE Nature
first reaction was "Ooh, thats cold" in regard to the hoodie. Salute!
Kool G. Rap influenced all of these up and coming rappers.
Nas included- Especially Nas...
Kool G. Rap was the first major spitter to me. He changed the dynamics of Rap.
Nas: Yo 50. The track hot. It’s a banga. Take my name off that shit & I’ll take you on tour.
50Cent: (50Cent Laugh) iight nigga. I knew you’d see it my way!
You can see how radio songs can change things for an artist: Kool g.Rap is the prototype for bigPun, but one of them allowed himself to make big radio records.
And the results for 2 artists with the same skills are drastically different.
The audience was ready for fresh meat regardless.
Twinz (Deep Cover 98) was NOT a typical commercial radio song...but it blew up because of using a song that was already a classic, combined with seeing the new kid on the block being a Rican who was 1000lbs and spit like he had 3 lungs.
haha the You put the hot dog down will never not be funny to me.....
50 and Jungle were cool in the streets coming up in Queens and once 50 was on Columbia I think that’s why he was paired to tour with Nas in 99
Nature SO UNDERRATED had such a smooth flow, the voice, cadence. Loved him 4 All Seasons is IMO, at that time, one of the most underrated, overlooked (East Coast) Albums from that era...

Nature always had the potential to be great. It's a shame that he didn't get to display his talent how he wanted to without sacrificing his integrity as an artist. I suppose in the music industry, you have to give more than you can take, especially when you're new to the game. Listen to "Hot Nights" featuring Prodigy, you'll thank me later (originally heard it on a Kay Slay mixtape - RIP- and it went by the name "Step your game up", I still have the file on my PC).

Lady B from Philly always played hip hop on radio in mid to late 80s at night. She went from AM to FM during that time. Hip hop all day
I think Nas and 50 were both signed to the same label when he made how to Rob. It may have been a conflict of interest from the label standpoint to keep Nas name from being mentioned on that song, most likely pressure from nas.
Plus when it came to touring if 50 and Nas are on Columbia, they know who the bread going too.....all the guys on the Firm outside of AZ were not on a major label if i'm not mistaken so why would the the label promoting unsigned artist, budgets, marketing, etc who don't have representation. These labels got money tied into these artists and they don't got the luxury of giving unknown cats that push because they "nice".
