From a chronically ill person thank you for all the work you do and being so compassionate towards your patients despite being so tired. Unfortunately not all doctors are like you so keep up the great work.
I'm not in school to be a doctor, but your positive attitude and your evident ambition really motivates me to continue studying and work as hard as possible in university so I can have a stable career and do what I love! Awesome video :)
Having been on-call for the past 10 years as an on site resident in Hong Kong.. it is soooo heartwarming to see that on call is pretty universal across the globe... reminds me of the old days... carrying pager and sleeping in call rooms
There are some Dr in training that should consider their major bc I've met some unpleasant ones with many trips to the er. I respect the ones who are genuine like yourself. Always nice to get a peak into the unknown for those who are outsiders
kakiexo14 And many are culturally forced into it. Im nigerian and education is a huge part of our culture. I know alot of my indian & chinese friends can say the same.
Lul M8 I can stand with you on that but culturally forced or not. No one going to the hospital in pain or concerned deserves to be treated like crap. It shouldn't matter if a family member died or not. Work is work & anything outside of that leave it at home. I'm paying them so you work for me. Doesn't always go for Dr or nurses in my opinion.
kakiexo14 you pay them so they work for you?? Really? This is not some burger flipping job at McDonald's. There's lots of stress involved. Maybe your shitty attitude is the reason doctors treat you like crap!
I’m a nurse, this really gave insight into what the doctors are truly dealing with! It made me remember my dreams of becoming a doctor or nurse practitioner...... I don’t know if I could get through school- financially & I recently developed ADD apparently. Congratulations though! You’re awesome!!
At least you get your own little room to be in. Could bring a laptop in case you want to use one. Mini fridge? It would be hard to be interrupted in the middle of things. I will get around to listen to your youtube channel later. Interested in listening to your violin. :)
This is such an interesting perspective! A lot of people don't understand how busy doctors get and why wait times can be so long. You literally don't stop moving! Thank you for your service!
Holy crap! What an inside look into your life, I respect you and everything you do! Thankyou for sharing this with us, and we are so thankful and lucky to have people like this who truly care about others!
yes please do more vlogs like this!! they're so interesting and your're amazing, how do manage to stay so uplifting and have energy in hours like that ??
Emily Chacon She is just new in the game. Give it some years and the enthusiasm and positivity are gone. This job doesn’t leave much of a personal life.
So i'm not even considering becoming anything in the medical field, i'm actually studying education, but this oddly was superrr interesting and i'll definitely tune in for the next one! Keep up the good work, you seem like such an amazing asset to your team and to the hospital!! Much love 💗💗
The thing is, I know it's not. Which is exactly why I'm in the educational field and not the medical field. I clicked on this video because it gave me a look into a lifestyle or profession that I'm not going to see otherwise. But anyone can understand that the 10 minutes she showed in this vlog do not accurately represent EVERY aspect of being an on-call medical resident. The good and the bad. The beautiful and the ugly. It's cool to get a look inside to her profession, but even if it WAS easy and glamorous, I'm going to stick to being a teacher. (:
Hey Rachel! Being an education major, at least where I go to college, the classes aren't too hard. You know, the whole brain development, education laws, disabilities kind of stuff. In my experience, wherever you to college at, they will try to get you out to classrooms as soon as possible. Where I go, they had us out observing freshman year. This is because you never really know if teaching is your thing until you are actually out in the field. The earlier they get you out, the earlier you make your decision on whether or not you enjoy it. Come junior year, your observing/teaching full day. Come senior year, your observing/teaching a couple times a week. Depending on where you live, your state may require exams all education majors have to pass. These can be really stressful and can get really expensive, but it will all be worth it in the end. (: I really like it! I mean, I'm super introverted so I have to push myself to be more vocal and disciplinary in the classroom, but that will come in due time. Good luck!
I was about to start my fourth year of college to become a elementary schoolteacher and I just couldn’t quit my day job so I stopped going to school. I started college in my late twenties and had a kid, a mortgage, ect. so when it came down to having to be in the classroom interning five days a week, I just couldn’t do it financially. It’s been years but now that my husband makes pretty good money I can finally go back to school
Great video as usual, Siobhan! I would love to see more videos like these in the future! You seem to have more energy throughout the 26 hours with sporadic bursts of sleep than most people with far easier lifestyles! You're awesome. 💗
Thanks Hailee! hahah well that was a particularly good night in terms of interesting cases and getting sleep! I find i'm so exhausted when I'm first woken up by a page, but then when I actually see the patient in the ER who has been waiting for such a long time, suddenly you are awake and ready to do your job!
Alexa Smith there’s a lot of research that has been done on effects of long hours & it’s not good. I wish they would give doctors a break. I’d rather my doctor be well rested and not do something to me that is harmful bc they’re sleep deprived.
This was awesome to watch! Your personality is so vibrant and wonderful. I am so very happy that you had a good night and got those 4 hours of precious sleep. When my baby was born, I was amazed by the resident doctor who was so bubbly and bright yet was also doing an overnight... "how does she focus?" I wondered. Now that I am a mom and have experienced how glorious 4 hours of uninterrupted sleep can be, I can understand a bit more... I also feel less alone, knowing that there are other people who have had crazy sleep schedules while the rest of the world seems to go on as normal. I give you so much credit for the job you do, and the way you do it with a SMILE. You seem like a truly beautiful person, inside and out. Your patients are lucky to have you. God bless!
I know that feeling when you’ve been in the hospital all day/night and finally get to go home and outside. I’ve got cystic fibrosis so I’m admitted a lot. I appreciate doctors like you to make people feel better.
I’m always intimidated by doctors because I’ve heard that they’re usually “mean” but I’m so glad you’re the complete opposite! Makes me change my whole perspective! 🙌🏼😊😊
Hey! Believe it or not but I was a nursing student at that exact hospital. It was nice getting a glimpse into what the residents/on call students perform on daily basis compared to what my responsibilities were. Congrats and best of luck in the future. Maybe we’ll run into each other one day!
Your videos inspire me. Considering medical school because I'm really passionate in science and helping people and this is an amazing insight to what it's really like. Thank you so much and hope you had a great rest!!
My great uncle is a doctor (private practice though). Sometimes when I go to the doctor, they recognize my last name, and then I have to explain. New subbie here. I loved this video!!
I know it’s late but I relate soo much! My mum is a dentist and we live in a small area, so everyone and their mother knows her and I always have to explain! 😂
I love watching her vlogs. She is such an amazing doctor, and she is so inspirational. I wasn't sure what i wanted to become, and i was thinking about being a doctor. And after watching her vlogs and seeing the excitement when she gets paged, and seeing the long hours, it just makes me certain that i want to become doctor, just like her.
I loved it!! Innovative, articulate, and not too long in duration. I DEEPLY APPRECIATE the extra mile u took to do this vlog in a timeline diary documentary-esque way. Much better than sitting in front of the camera and rambling!! Thank you, thank you, thank you! 😀🤗😃
I know you can't release too much information about patients, but if you continue this blogs (which I like a lot) could you tell us more about patient symptoms and your diagnosis and treatment plans for your ER patients? I think that'd be really interesting to hear about! P.S. you have an awesome energy about you :)
Hi Calli! hmmm good point... let me see what I can do while still balancing confidentiality. I agree that patient stories are what make medicine such a special field... thanks for the suggestion, you've got me thinking for upcoming videos! ☺️
That could be challenging, because certain information could be attributed to the specific patient if a family member or friend were to watch the vlog. I'm not sure how you balance that. Truthfully I'm surprised the hospital hasn't said anything, but you are very good at not showing hospital identifying information, or even other people's faces.
Will Stone I agree! I think she is doing a great job of only giving us minimal details. I wouldn’t want her to risk giving out too much info and have a HIPAA violation.
I love your positivity. I'm in LE and I also work long hours and seeing someone in different field working hard with lack of sleep is refreshing especially with your great attitude!
I have so much respect and appreciation for doctors, you guys do so much. You seem like such a relaxed doctor. You have the most calming voice. I can't even fathom working 26 hours with only a 4 hour nap, I would have overslept. I can not function without at least a full 6 and a half hours. Everything would go in one ear and out the other.
This is actually so insightful!! As a soon-to-be nurse and as a tech who rotates on nights, I've gotten to know some pretty cool residents and I always commend them for the work they do staying up for 24 hour on-calls and being able be on the move for so long. It's seeing the realities of the many POV in healthcare that helps me to further strengthen my bond with the people I get to work with!!
I just love your channel so much! I love how busy and hectic your life is but how much you LOVE it! ♥️ that’s the kind of people who should be in medicine
You got yourself a new subscriber! :D currently studying for nursing so its definantly exciting to see how the hospital life works for resident students!
TH-cam is incredible. I honestly have a lot of medical anxiety. As a teenager I had some really bad experiences with doctors, mixed with issues with my parents. I am happy to get to know a doctor from this side and its helping me heal from those past traumas. Hopefully i will soon be in a place where i can go get the help i need. Thank you!
As a VA Volunteer, I am on-call when a patient (veteran) passes away. Day or night, I will come into the VA Hospital and escort the flag covered veteran to the morgue. (the No Veteran Dies Alone program) I also help out in our extended care unit, rehab, Spinal Cord Injury, and from time-to-time in the intensive care unit. I am retired from the Army and am a disabled veteran. But not too disabled to help. Oh and BTW, I am 65-years-old.
Such an inspirational person. Great video. The insight on the hospital is really cool. Can't say I've spent much time in hospital to know much about it. Keep being yourself please!
Its literally so interesting to see how your system works- i am a medical student in Austria (Europe) and things are of crouse different, but there are also quite some similarities :D love it!
It’s so interesting to see this!!! As someone always in the hospital (I have cystic fibrosis), I’ve always wanted to know what docs go through! People never give you enough credit
That was the best blog I have ever watched. So much respect healthcare providers. I wish I could have went into the medical field that would be such a dream come true
Thank you for showing us what yous go through as doctors/ nurses .. although we know you guys are like “our real heroes” just watching this video makes me have so much more respect for a doctor ! So thank you 😊❤️
I work on the front desk in admin in a hospital in Australia and this gave me good insight! You doctors really do have it tough I don't know how you stay so positive about the long shifts! No one can handle things like you doctors can!
Aww I absolutely loved this! You are such a positive person, and it really shows how much you love your job and helping others. I hope you continue recording these :)
As a pre-health student I absolutely loved this vlog and as brutal as it seems to be on call, seeing this encourages me even more to become a doctor! Keep it up please! :)
New to your channel. I love your energy even after your looooong night/day. Yes, pls more like this. I am an aspiring BSN with hopes of more in the future. Not sure where my path is meant to be. I enjoyed to hear about your day.
as a first year med student, this was extremely interesting. i’ve grown up practically in the medical field and i’m in s family of nurses (mom, brother, and sister are all nurses at the same hospital). but it was cool to see how it is from a doctors point of view
My child is chronically ill so we're often inpatient and we do have our favorite doctors we see most visits. When a new doctor gets us I feel bad about the sheer amount of things I have to try and catch them up on you will need to take notes. When they bring in the nursing students it's fun to teach them how to give meds by G tube or other tricks I've learned from doing it everyday. Helps pass the time.
What happens if you get paged to go to one consult, but you get paged again to go to another one while you're still at the first? Do you have to give one to another person (of equal or higher "rank" of course), or what? lol
Lacey Staggs | I think on the pagers it gives a 1-3 scale on how important the page is so depending on the number she can prioritize on which patient to take care of first.
I wish if anything ever happens to me and i need to go to the hospital that you would be my doctor , you are just an amazing person in general . Keep up with the great work
I want to be a doctor but I'm scared of not passing the tests and not graduating after spending 5 years and also if I do graduate then I'm scared of having to diagnose patients by myself cos I feel like I won't know what to do
Hi Eve - everything you are saying is so incredibly common, so don't feel like you are alone with those doubts! The educational process is really designed to make you a safe doctor, so don't worry, there will be people watching over you for many years and then even when you are an independent doctor, you can still always chat with mentors if you are at all concerned with a tricky patient case etc. Always lots of support, you are never truly alone!!
Eve Fadahunsi don't worry of course you will know what to do after 5 years of training in college, I have a lot of experience around doctors because my mother is a doctor, two of my aunts are doctors and I have cystic fibrosis so I'm in hospital a lot lol, I personally want to be a vet so I understand how you feel :)
Eve Fadahunsi every doctor you ever see has most likely felt that way at some point. You grow with experience! It’s my dream to work in the hospital and become a surgeon
Call me crazy, but I can't wait until I get to where you are. It is absolutely my dream to become a doctor!
haha love it!! Don't lose that enthusiasm, it will help motivate you through some tough nights when you get there!
I want to be a surgeon any suggestions
Dr RB i wanna be a nurse thats my dream
Dr RB why would that be crazy? Im a med student, nothing crazy about wanting tobe a doctor
I've been told that I'm crazy for wanting to do so much studying in the future. I don't care it's my passion!
You seem like the nicest person ever!! If I had to do that I'd be sooo grumpy!! Well done !x
aw thank you Emileigh!
So nice getting this inside look!
So glad you enjoyed the video - it's what you are going to be doing soon enough!!

White Coat Chronicles I move to the point where the first half of the year of the day I will never understand

The fact that you work 21-26 hours and still have the time (and energy!) to edit vlogs is insanely amazing! Loved this
What an amazing vlog! I loved being able to get a little peek into what an on call day is like for a doctor.
Thanks for sharing!
From a chronically ill person thank you for all the work you do and being so compassionate towards your patients despite being so tired. Unfortunately not all doctors are like you so keep up the great work.
Hi Nrg Bunni! I really appreciate your comment, thank you so much for sharing. I will remember this when I'm years down the road ☺️

A peek into a whole different world. Thanks!
Hi Nancy - really glad you enjoyed the video!
From a night nurse’s perspective, it’s interesting to see what the doctors on the other side of the phone call do!
Having been on-call for the past 10 years as an on site resident in Hong Kong.. it is soooo heartwarming to see that on call is pretty universal across the globe... reminds me of the old days... carrying pager and sleeping in call rooms
Thanks for reaching out Rebecca! I completely agree - it’s somehow reassuring that others are going through this same experience all across the world!
There are some Dr in training that should consider their major bc I've met some unpleasant ones with many trips to the er. I respect the ones who are genuine like yourself. Always nice to get a peak into the unknown for those who are outsiders
kakiexo14 u have ones who are in it for money. A lot actually.
Brooke Melton I hate people who goes in medicine for the money its really sad because it makes the rest of us look bad and have a reputation
kakiexo14 And many are culturally forced into it. Im nigerian and education is a huge part of our culture. I know alot of my indian & chinese friends can say the same.
Lul M8 I can stand with you on that but culturally forced or not. No one going to the hospital in pain or concerned deserves to be treated like crap. "4 hours of sleep and i feel glorious" 😟what?!
Hahaha compared to what I expect on call... trust me on a regular night at home I would not be satisfied with 4 hours!! 😂
I once slept 4 hours and well... I felt glorious :D
I can relate!! 4 hours Is all I need to feel rejuvenated!
I don't work in medicine, but I worked in factory at night and 4 hours would be luxury
Sometimes I sleep for two hours and I feel refreshed
This is such an interesting perspective! A lot of people don't understand how busy doctors get and why wait times can be so long. You literally don't stop moving! Thank you for your service!

I was like “why isn’t she telling us about her patients” then I realized the HIPPA laws😂 blank moment
Hey Samantha - haha yeah exactly.... so much of medicine is patient stories, but confidentiality has to come first!
Plus, she's in Canada, so different laws impose the same constraints on medical professionals than those laws in the US.
@@ViolinMDYou make it work really well.
I loved this vlog. New subscriber. I hope you won't get in trouble for vlogging for us. Keep it up if your allowed please.

True! I don’t think she will because by not disclosing or showing any patients she is not violating HIPAA
she's in Canada so HIPAA doesn't apply
I think she is allowed because it’s educational

Hey Rachel! Being an education major, at least where I go to college, the classes aren't too hard. You know, the whole brain development, education laws, disabilities kind of stuff. Hi Chaff - haha yes the minions said it all 😂
I actually found you tense. Gosh! How differently the same behavior can come across to people.
saying someone is calm or tense is not accurate as they are relative to the context and your perception of that emotion in that context

Why are they making doctors work 26 hours ? That kind of scares me bc I feel like mistakes will be madez
Hi Alexa! You raise an excellent point and in fact there are many places in the world that have moved away from these long hours
Alexa Smith there’s a lot of research that has been done on effects of long hours & it’s not good. I wish they would give doctors a break. I’d rather my doctor be well rested and not do something to me that is harmful bc they’re sleep deprived.
In Mexico the shifts are of 36 hours without sleeping, and if you commite a mistake, the resident can punish you with more hours :(
Malaysia gives you 36 hours of oncall yet luckily the doctors are still strong. System has to be changed for better health.
LOL I wish I only worked 26-hour shifts. I work for Fire/Rescue and work 48-60 hour shifts. Working up to 120 hours a week.
All people who are in the medical field are the best. Thank you. These vlogs are awesome. Wow, you have a beautiful smile
Doing my Medical assistant training I did the same...scrubs on the bottom zip up at the top
nice - definitely the way to go... like PJs and you get to stay warm ☺
This is crazy how doctors sleep at work and pass the patients to the incoming shift. Blows my mind their commitment. Amazing!
Great vlog! One of the reasons I didn’t pursue being a doctor is for the lack of sleep. I wish they would change that. It’s not healthy.

It's seeing the realities of the many POV in healthcare that helps me to further strengthen my bond with the people I get to work with!!
Wow, such little sleep! You are a trooper!
I just love your channel so much! I love how busy and hectic your life is but how much you LOVE it! ♥️ that’s the kind of people who should be in medicine
You got yourself a new subscriber! :D currently studying for nursing so its definantly exciting to see how the hospital life works for resident students!
Hi Delia! thanks for saying hi!
Oh my god you are literal goals! It's so cool seeing a vlog that wasn't the typical and you seem like the sweetest person ever!
You seem so nice! Love when I get to see doctors and nurses like you treat me or my daughter!
Oh and BTW, I am 65-years-old.
jvolstad This is a wonderful comment and I’m so happy I stumbled upon this. Thank you so much for your service to our country and to our veterans.
Oh really? that is interesting to hear - I've been to Vienna and absolutely LOVED it there... what an amazing musical history as well!
This is amazing! As a med student I LOVE watching these kind of videos. Thanks for sharing!
I don’t understand how you are soooo upbeat like you have a great attitude and personality!
It’s so interesting to see this!!! As someone always in the hospital (I have cystic fibrosis), I’ve always wanted to know what docs go through! People never give you enough credit
Thanks for reaching out and sharing! ❤
That was the best blog I have ever watched. So much respect healthcare providers. I wish I could have went into the medical field that would be such a dream come true
So cool! Love seeing this from a doctors reality!!
Thank you for showing us what yous go through as doctors/ nurses .. although we know you guys are like “our real heroes” just watching this video makes me have so much more respect for a doctor ! So thank you 😊❤️
What an extraordinary attitude that you have :) perfect for medicine!
Thanks Johnna!
I work on the front desk in admin in a hospital in Australia and this gave me good insight! You doctors really do have it tough I don't know how you stay so positive about the long shifts! No one can handle things like you doctors can!
Love this! Girl power.
You are such a good doctor. I haven’t met a nice doctor before honestly. Well I have, but not someone as nice and kind hearted as you.
You are so inspiring. I could never stay that sane and nice for that long! Amazing and thank you for everything you do :)
😂 thanks Madeline!
Aww I absolutely loved this! You are such a positive person, and it really shows how much you love your job and helping others. I hope you continue recording these :)
Great idea to document this! So fun! You're attitude is amazing-- you are super strong!
Thanks Dappled Willow - great to hear from you!
As a pre-health student I absolutely loved this vlog and as brutal as it seems to be on call, seeing this encourages me even more to become a doctor! Keep it up please! :)
Awe McMaster!!! I just finished my bachelor of science there! Small world. Congrats lovely!!
You GO GIRL 💛 Smart, beautiful and you play the Violin 🥰 Your parents must be very proud of you!!! You’ll make one AMAZING Doctor, Sweetheart 💯
Not very Grey's Anatomy😜 lol awesome, vlog! I love the behind the scenes look into a Dr's job.
Amber XO ikr
@Bernie Sanders ha I see lots of comments saying the same thing about Grey's and you're right this is not tv it's real life!
Wow! How can you be so awake at that time and also so happy all the time! I’m so impressed by your enthusiasm
Love getting to see the inside look!!
It’s nice getting a look into what I want my future to look like as a surgeon which I’ve dreamt of since a young age
Definitely subscribing!! I want to be a surgeon and this is a great example of what I can expect!
You are so sweet! As seasoned RN I wish all the new Docs were like you!
New to your channel. I love your energy even after your looooong night/day. Yes, pls more like this. I am an aspiring BSN with hopes of more in the future. Not sure where my path is meant to be. I enjoyed to hear about your day.
Hi Sofia! so glad you are enjoying the channel - best of luck with your studying, it's an exciting time to figure out your path!
as a first year med student, this was extremely interesting. i’ve grown up practically in the medical field and i’m in s family of nurses (mom, brother, and sister are all nurses at the same hospital). but it was cool to see how it is from a doctors point of view
Loved this vlog! & your freckles are gorgeous!
Thanks so much Heather!
Wow your so positive and upbeat, please don’t ever lose that 💕
Thanks so much KafkameetsPlath!
Love this vlog so much,it actually does give insight
Fantastic - so glad to hear it!
This was awesome! Can you please upload more in-hospital shift vlogs?
Thanks Tory - so glad you enjoyed the video! Yes definitely more to come!
As a pre-med student, I love watching these videos!
Hi Katie - great to hear from you, glad you are enjoying the videos!
This is honestly the most interesting thing I have come across on TH-cam! Thanks so much for sharing your life, this is amazing!
Awww! You’re so sweet! Seems like you really enjoy doing what you do. Great vlog
Hi Eve, I am not a med student. I say if you are truly passionate about it go for it.
Violin MD I’m scared of the debt I’ll be swiming in. I’m going to PA school and it’s over 100k.
