Volvo S60 V70 XC70 DIM Swap Numbers 2002-2003 (Instrument panel)

  • The numbers to match if you are swapping a cluster (DIM or speedometer) unit especially on 2002-2003 P2 Volvo cars. A failed DIM behaves in various ways: may work for a few minutes after starting the car, then it goes all off except for a Check engine light, the message display may show strange characters, the clock may start running randomly, etc. The electronic problem is at some chips and also at some small resistors - so if you are repairing it be sure to check ALL electronic components. I got one repaired by a local TV shot for very little, Ebay also has repair services, while Xemodex is too expensive. Note that the high beams (blue) indicator is a separate problem on the electronic board.

    on another video you commented that 3 of the numbers need to match. This one you say all 4? Also that some 01-03 won't need programming. I have a 02 S60. Do I need just 3 or all 4 to match?

    I removed my DIM to change the bulbs on my 2002 Volvo V70 and I didn't disconnect the Battery I just removed the Drivers information Module and after I changed the bulbs I put the DIM back in and I didn't get an SRS Message so if you have the DIM removed don't turn the ignition on I left my ignition off until I put my DIM back in and I started the car up and it didn't have An SRS Light So I hope this helps Take care

    Is it possible to change the place of the 2004 model volvo s60 display table and the top models with the 2013 or 2015 s60 table? Does it fit or what might be required for them. Can the problem be solved with extras such as software, program installation or extra electrical installation, thanks in advance.

    2/4/2021 just switched out a 2006 s60 cluster with a 2007 xc70 cluster...most number matched but some didnt ...yes it worked ( except the upper cover leds) but kept the mileage from the donor xc70
    ....no weird lights on and works good just dark as the upper led dont light up the face so ill need to tap a wire from the plug in.

      Good info. I understand the 2007 XC was still a P2 platform ? On most countries the V70/XC70 changed around 2007 to the P3 platform (the P2 S60 were sold until 2009)

    What do you mean with that high beam indicator? Problem is still somewhere on the dim board, but not the resistors as for those other problems? I managed to fix my dim by myself, except high beam indicator, it's not working properly, can't find the problem.

      There is two resistors around where the blue light is, maybe it's those ones

    What happens if you've already swapped out the clusters before knowing about the matching numbers? The car ran great all day. Next day, won't start. How do you go about getting software worked out?

    • @Peppermint1
      @Peppermint1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think it's related to the DIM if it already worked normally. Maybe the battery is drained ? Try jump starting from another car.

  • @Peppermint1

    I am not sure if 2001-2002 are compatible with 2003 even if they have the same numbers. Make sure it's one that was already repaired, because all will fail at some point. If you see only a check engine light, it's either not compatible or already faulty

    the small screen in the bottom left for me is flickering if i buy a s60R guage cluster for the blue guages can i swap in the screen from that cluster? or is it a issue on the motherboard. i know you can swap the guage colors without too much trouble

    • @Peppermint1
      @Peppermint1  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If by flickering you mean the back light has a problem, I would rather look at the two backlit bulbs - these have T5 sockets and if they flicker I suspect someone has replaced them with LED. Careful not to put the key in the ignition when removing the bulbs (gives and SRS message). If disconnecting the DIM have the battery disconnected. If you rather mean the words/letters on the display show up 'pixelated' and incomplete, that is the typical DIM failure - usually on 2002-2003 S60

    If I already have an srs error message and want to replace the cluster - If I disconnect the battery before replacing the new one will it clear that code for the new install? Or once the error is there because I didn't disconnect the battery the first change, can it ever be cleared without going to a dealer? This is on a 2007 xc70. Thanks,

    • @Peppermint1
      @Peppermint1  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Code is set into the CEM, so it will stay there until cleared with scanner - smaller garage can do it for much less. Suggest installing new CEM, then have code and light cleared.

    Hi and thank you :-).
    Disconnecting the negative or the positive on the battery please?
    Regards.

    • @Peppermint1
      @Peppermint1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Either one, but it is always safer to undo the Negative (black cover). Just careful if you use a metal tool (wrench) not to touch at same time the battery and the car metal, or the two battery posts between them (sparks). Also keep the ignition key in POS II and headlights ON when disconnecting and reconnecting the battery, this can prevent a small sensor from failing at the climate module (rare but it can happen)

    but when I connected it, it didn't work and just showed speedometer and time.
    not gas tank, not message.
    so I didn't buy it.

    • @Peppermint1
      @Peppermint1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      All of the 01-03 DIM will get faulty at some point, so perhaps the replacement you found is also faulty.

    Hi friend. I have a issue with my 2003 XC90. I noticed you seem to know a fair amount about these vehicles. The issue is the car will not start. It is saying brake failure, and start prevented. I have taken out the CEM, and the CEM looks okay no corrosion that I can see. The driver's floorboard carpet was very wet. It definitely had a water leak but where do I even start. It was only the drivers floorboard that got wet. It was dry when I parked it in my garage for a couple months, and the car was working at that point with no issues. Now it will not start under any circumstances. I have pulled the battery, connected the leads together. I have wiggled the steering wheel. It is possible that the water in drivers side footwell evaporated and got onto something else in the car.

      Does the engine turn at all when you turn the key ? If the engine doesn't crank at all, I suspect it's an immobilizer problem which may be caused by low battery while the car is not used for long time (always good to disconnect the battery when not using the car for more than 2-3 weeks). Possible some software got corrupted and now the car doesn't recognize the key (this would be a fix by the Volvo dealer but careful because they are willing to replace parts for no reason). Also look under the seat see if the connectors appear to be wet. May also look at the DEM (google) for any important corrosion on the metal plate.

    • @nickmarshall2676
      @nickmarshall2676 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Peppermint1 okay what if the connectors under the seat are wet? What is located there. Also yes it is definitely immobilizer. The car wont try to start. I tried jumpstarting the car again today.

      @@nickmarshall2676 You may try locking/unlocking the dr door with the fob three times, or disconnect the battery over night (have the key inPOS II when reconnecting). But from what a Volvo tech said online, this is a corrupted software perhaps on the CEM, which would be a trip to the Volvo dealer for a software reset/reupload (no need to replace parts)

    • @nickmarshall2676
      @nickmarshall2676 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Peppermint1 I have done the lock unlock and even pulled the battery for a couple days. If the key is corrupted, why might it be throwing ABS codes? Also the lock and unlock functions work just fine

    • @Peppermint1
      @Peppermint1  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nickmarshall2676 I don't know if the ABS code would be related.. the lock/unlock thing is just 'to try', if a software is corrupted I'm guessing the only way to fix it is having Volvo reprogram it. I don't think it's going to be cheap, but at least I think they don't need to replace any part - some dealers will try perhaps to sell you more than needed, they are good at that. I have to say, from reading on forums, yours is a very common problem when the car is parked long term and the battery goes weak or flat. Unfortunately, of all the persons who asked for this on forums, none came back with an update if they have it fixed. So I'm still curious to find out what is the actual fix, if the reprogramming does work indeed - I think that will be useful for all Volvo owners to know
