    Sometimes disconnecting the instrument cluster with the ignition on will trigger a permanent code in the airbag module. I doubt that airbag warning was left over from the old car. But I will say the airbag system won’t work if it has an error illuminating the warning light, you’ll have to get that cleared.
    Also if you want the old cluster back to get the miles correct, check out Southern Electronics. They specialize in gauge cluster repair, will fix everything wrong with it for a flat fee. They’re local to me and I’ve always had good experiences with them (including a Volvo cluster, though for a much older car)

      Oh thanks Phoenix! Might have a go at that. I have a scanner that might clear the ABS light (good call on that), but I would still need to have the odometer re-programmed. I will pin this so others can see. Thanks!

    Tape over the light is better then the guy who owned my old truck before me back in the day. He just took a drill to it without removing a thing. This was great because when I bought the truck, the light had to work in order to pass smog, which needed to be done in order to put the truck in my name. Good Times!

    Don't mess with the DIM. Remove, send off for a rebuild and install. Job done. Very easy to destroy these clusters.

      Very easy. Some of those solder joints are so fine. I don’t think my clumsy, shaky hands could ever repair those soldering joints if I find the bad one🙃

    I’ve owned one Volvo. It was a 91 240 sedan. Bulletproof engine and transmission but like you said the electrics and plastics didn’t enjoy the same trouble free operation as the engine did.

      100%. The engine runs great still, no transmission issues yet. Just the silly electrical is goofy as per usual with Volvo ha ha

    Kind of unusual for the mileage and trip and error messages to be stored in the cluster itself. Usually that's in the cars main computer, for just the purpose of replacing the cluster if need be. My dad has a 2008 F150 and he had to get his instrument cluster replaced, when the new one was installed it displayed the same information as the old one. Wiping the memory of the replacement might be an option, or maybe a dealer consultation is in order. 🤔

      Yeah programing odometers are difficult to near impossible without the dealership help. Something about falsifying mileage on a car. People seem to get cranky over that; for good reason =)

    I would wear an earth strap plus mat, touching any pcb will significantly reduce its lifespan.
    (Telecommunications)
    Meguiars PlastX to get scratches out..

    Hi Chris! If you don't mind, please share with us how you ultimately addressed the ABS and odometer issues. Someone's sanity may depend on it.

      When I fix it, I'll let know you all know =)

    Don't know for sure but isn't it a security/theft thing that the ECU retains the milage? Stops clocking the car by unscrupulous people?

    • @SwedeMachine
      @SwedeMachine  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, that’s what I thought too, but apparently not. Oh well. We don’t plan on selling the car so it’s just a minor nuisance ha ha.

    @graymouser7649 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    if you can tap on it and it changes like that you sir have a bad soulder joint

    • @SwedeMachine
      @SwedeMachine  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds like it since I can reproduce the program. Only 1,000 joints to look at ha ha. Swapped the other one in so I can at least get to work without a ticket. Why does this always happen in the middle of the week….😂

    If it's doing all that now, it's time to trade it in I think.

    • @SwedeMachine
      @SwedeMachine  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Possibly so. I still have to do a timing belt on it. Then some thinking ha ha

    Mileage is store on the clusters in these cars, makes it frustrating when a cluster fails

    Did you ever fix it

    • @SwedeMachine
      @SwedeMachine  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Negative. Just replaced it. I’m sure it was a solder joint somewhere but I needed my car up and running asap and didn’t want to mess with it
