Yeah, my fave was turning a drill into a lathe to make a knob for a disk that should have been attached to a drill so they can hand sand rather than using a pesky power tool, utter genius.
it would make some sense when installing a support 10-15 feet long say for installing an awning or something attached to a wall. Maybe not even wood, but metal and are re usable.
Yup, to you it’s just another bri-, er, stick in the wall. May you never have to put up a board on a wall with both horizontal and vertical axis location precision while also being level, by yourself.

I thought the flip flops was part of the sales pitch. Like " I will now pick up all these bricks with nothing but dollar store flip flops with absolutely no protection for my toes or metatarsal guard"
If you have a power drill and a sanding disk for it, why would you use that to make a round wooden hand grip for the disk? If you want to sand something with the disk, use it on the drill - thats much less exhausting. And if you want to hand sand something, a square wooden block is just fine. Zero extra work needed. :)
ok theres two things wrong here, but clearly you've never done much ACTUAL woodwork to know what these things are. Powersanding can be too harsh, and if you've ever done any hand sanding with a block you'd know the paper slips, catches and can tear because it's not being held firmly - holding onto a wood block with paper and a vice liek grip is tiring on the hands - so this guy has used HIS BRAIN and added a handle to a velcro backed pad, no more slipping paper and no more hand cramps. Guess who else does this? Jimmy diResta, going to accuse HIM of being an idiot? Didn't think so.
@@rafezetter8003 Actually I've done quiet a bit of woodwork in the past 40 years. And during that time I learned that a sanding block is a rather practical piece of kit. Here just a few main advantages over a rubber disk: 1. the sanding paper is much cheaper, if you buy big sheets or even a roll, instead of the pre-prepared disks for a velcro disk. Significant if you do a lot of wood work. 2. with a block, you can reach certain corners much better, which you cannot access with a disk. 3. a block is stiff and plain, other than the disk. So you have less risk to sand dents into the wood, or uneven surfaces. Yes, it is straining for the hand - as hand sanding always is. To ease that a bit, you can make a "de luxe" block, by glueing some felt underneath and shaping the sides and top a bit more hand friendly. And I don't even know Jimmy Di Resta, so I sure wont accuse him of anything.

HandCraft Testing untested tools or building techniques makes using proper safety gear even that much more important. Had those bricks slipped out of that brick tong and landed on your foot a greater lesson would really have been learned at your expense and taught others what not to do.
So he creates a clamping device to fasten a 2x4 into a brick wall... when clamps are removed 2 holes remain... spend 1.5 hours to create clamps ... why not just put a level on 2x4 draw line on the bottom portion and measure out where the holes have 2 go... too much or too difficult?... I am confused...
Number 2 made absolutely no sense, you could have drilled holes in your board, then mark the holes, drill and then put in the screws. The holder thingamabob was waste of time and money plus now you have two holes to fill . Some of your ideas are okay but definitely not genius.
Those were my first thoughts too. I guess the advantage is when using big size/ heavy boards which are not suitable to hold with one hand and drill with another hand. I am still fighting over those two additional holes in my head. But it kind of makes sense. Regards,

Felix Franke Agreed, it’s a really great idea for moving several bricks at a time. However it’s design needs a slight tweak so that the lifting action pulls the bricks in tighter as you can see from the video that the bricks are bowing in the middle as he lifts them meaning it’s a good possibility that the slightest jolt as your walking over an uneven site could mean all of the bricks dropping. I can see how some people view the comments about appropriate footwear as the health & safety police going OTT which in my case was certainly not my intention, rather pointing out what you’d think to be common sense the, flimsy open toe’d beach footwear is completely ludicrous whichever way you look at it. We’ve all probably taken risks regarding our safety at some point in our lives but not necessarily such an obviously stupid risk as this. I shudder to think how much damage and pain he’d get the fist time the bricks spill out straight onto either the bridge of his foot or toes = agony = likely trip to hospital = probably time off work = no wages earned. I’m now of the age that I thought I’d seen every stupid avoidable risk with personal injury going, however I’ve just added another one the list.
All of these 'ideas' take more time and resources than actually doing it the straight forward way. Stupid. I think a chunk of wood as a sanding block is a little easier than jigging up a makeshift lathe to make a handle (for the drill sander - which he used a drill to make instead of just using it on the sandpaper)
Neat handmade items, you needed something so you made it, nothing wrong with that. I do wished on number 5, that you would have shown how it was made, more than what it did.
To those who complained bitterly that the items created in the video have already been invented: The title says “genius ideas” and the description says “creative ideas.” Not a word about “invention” anywhere - that was in your own head, probably because you were looking for new inventions. So don’t denigrate the author for your mistake/disappointment. Also, as the description says, “We turn simple things into unique ones!” i.e. the creativity is about making items (whether previously invented or not) out of materials that may be lying around-the focus is on the conversion of the materials used, not the end item or the tooling used per se. Inventors usually need a model or prototype of a new invention as a proof-of-concept, and the construction techniques and materials resourcefulness in this video could give someone without a lot of money to buy raw materials an idea of how to prototype a new invention from inexpensive everyday objects or scrap materials. There are 215K subscribers who think the author is worthy of attention. P.S.: If you go looking for something in the video to crap on-and you should ask yourself WHY you do that-you’ll certainly find it, and chances are that’s all you’ll find. I reckon he’s got the idea by now or at least it’s made him think a bit about his own personal safety. So not only has the device caused you to take valuable off work meaning rather than saving time, you’ve lengthened it by a few weeks and cost you money in lost earnings = fail !! I did think the dust shroud and the hole digger were quite useful idea’s.
