This is what America is all about: facing an existing problem and developing a workable solution for success. I wonder what would occur if you approached manufacturers of these kinds of devices to see what they could do to make your ideas commercially profitable. You already know your "contraption" works well, so if they turn you down, there's nothing from stopping you to begin your own manufacturing process if you so desire. We don't need government programs, we need more "dougification." BRAVO, Hometown Acres!!!
That`s where people like Doug, and myself, who are fabricators, can always find ways to make things better. There are always ways to improve things. Hat`s off to Doug! This was great improvement Adam!
What fantastic improvements, the one thing that stands out over everything else is the friendship you two have made through TH-cam. It's nice to see helpfulness and friendship between genuine people. A quality which unfortunately is not too common these days. Keep up the good work lads
Well done Doug. You have a wonderful neighbor. Log arch works really well. I upgraded skid loaders to be able to pick up heavier logs. I have a tree service business. So I have to load all the logs into my dump truck. My Mustang 2054 had plenty of hydraulic power to pick up the logs. It just would tip to the front with all the weight. Now I have a Wacker Neusen ST31. It has twice the lifting capacity. That means we don't have to cut the logs into smaller pieces to be able to load them onto my truck.
Nice job Doug! When wanting to carry multiple small stems. Lay the caring chains on the ground. Move trailer forward. Pile stems on top of chains. Back the trailer over stems. Drop winch hook down. Then use the steel O ring with short tails and grab hooks. Hook the carrying chain. Raise and hook carrying chains on carrying hooks. Do the same on the other carrying chain.
That works like a dream! No more scarred trails or sore backs. Dougification is never complete. The man is always always thinking. You guys really put the log hauler through its paces. It passed with flying colors. See you in the next installment.
Add some leads to your battery & have them sticking out the side or back, so you don't have to lift the bed. It might be full some day. I like the jumper cable ends, don't change that. Mount a board or plastic to back. Drill 2 holes if you want both positive & negative. Could just be positive if UTV is negative grounded. Take a 3/8"x2" bolt & bottom out a nut. Then add washer & put through hole. Add washer & 2nd nut. Attach battery cable & then 3rd nut. My Dad had an electric winch on his boat trailer 35 years ago. But he bought specialty 12vdc plug ends. One was mounted to his truck bumper. I like how yours is universal. Friends vehicles don't need a special connector.
Instead of the jumper leads the battery, use a set of leads with Anderson plugs fitted to the tailgate of your atv. I have Anderson plugs fitted to my tractors' batteries to operate my stationary diesel fuel tank pump and battery charger, block heater, etc.
You deserve much more than that, Adam, in my opinion. But, you're definitely being fair to your customer. He's blessed! Great video, as always. God bless you and your family! 🙏💖👍
Idea for an additional improvement. Get some sockets like a welder would have and attach them to the frame of the UTV with a bracket and run hard wired cables back to battery. Replace alligator clips from the winch with plugs that plug directly into the new sockets. Will make connecting power much easier.
6:58 add a cable to pin. Even after I tied hitch pins to my trailers, friends always seem to lose them. I might need new friends. Add more hooks to accommodate shorter logs. Add some tabs with holes above new square tubes to pin a roller, to move cable to a different useable location.
I watched Doug build it and it's nice to see it in action. Once again, I thought I had a good idea on how to improve it, but what Doug did was 1000X better and much simplier. Time to get a saw mill and a log arch - let the good times roll!
Those improvements are a game changer! Nice work Doug! My only suggestion would be replacing the alligator clips with SB connectors. I work on forklifts all day so those are always at the front of my mind😂
Very great video, as usual. I watch Doug too. Just wanted to say that it's Red on Red, then Black on Black......I was taught put the ground on last to avoid sparks. AC
Dougie hooked it up literally! I’m a big fan of running two-pole plugs off the battery for everything, just wire it from your battery and mount one half of the plug to the utv hitch and ground the negative to the hitch and wire the other half onto your red and black cables for the winch…all you have to do is plug them together and your good to go…no more tilting up the bed and playing with the alligator clips.
Awesome improvements. Only thing I would do is add a plug instead of alligator clips, so it is safer for everyone. You could mount near your trailer hitch receiver so it is more convenient to connect. You could also have a plug with aligator clips incase you are moving to a different pull vehicle that doesn't have your plug.
Some people might think it seems like a lot of work. But if you’ve ever had to drag a log out of the woods you’ll really appreciate how much easier it makes the job.
Very cool. Awesome work by Doug as usual. If you want to make that winch connection quicker and cleaner get some battery quick connects from Amazon and just plug and go. I did that for the winch on my tractor and they work great and no worry of an alligator clip popping off. Dave
Looks pretty slick. I'd get an Anderson Powerpole connector for your winch power and then you don't need the alligator clamps. They're they're the same ones that they use on electric forklift batteries. Bonus is you could make other cables if you wanted to - such as a winch in your hitch receiver.
Adam that’s a really nice log Archie you got there very cool I’m sure it’ll work great for you for many years to come. And Doug man what a nice contraption you’ve turned that thing into that looks great it works great I wouldn’t expect any less from you.
Dougify! How cool. The electric winch was a great idea. I do pressure washing the electric reels We’re definitely out of my budget. I’m working on an idea using power. If it doesn’t work I’m gonna have to look up Doug!
Great job Doug!!!!! I hope you applied for a patent. I will guarantee the makers of the original will incorporate his ideas into their products. They will probably offer him a job.
“These the new hooks you added, Doug?” “Yep!” “Let’s see how well you did welding it!” 😂😂 treasure your friendship, really good to have good neighbors!
I would add a high amperage power connector to the sidebyside, eg an Anderson power pole. That way not lifting the bed each time and you can leave it connected if you are fetching a few logs. Also good if for jump starting as I have one on my Land Rover and a set of jumper cables to the Anderson connector.
I would run cables from the battery to the rear of your UTV, add an SB connector to the cables. Shorten the cables on the log arch, add another SB connector to them. Rather than having to lift the bed every time, just plug the connectors in. Then you got “Plug and Play”!
Anderson SB175 connectors would be perfect for winch connection instead of the alligator clips. I use a similar setup and they save a ton of time and hassle.
A more permanent wiring from battery to the back with and Anderson connector to hook up to a shorter wire and Anderson connector instead of alligator clips would be the cherry on top 👌
i used a similar type of unit for moving pipe for years but we hooked the pipe in the middle with just a little weight to the front that way the trailer carries most of the weight. with this method you can haul a log twice as long as your trailer.
Cool channel. I nailed the rate 75.00 an hour I was just off on the time by an hour. Which brings up self employment rule number one: Every new job takes longer than you think it will...
Only options I would consider is a battery box so you don't have to hook up to the side by side (using it on a different machine or the dump bed is loaded with firewood and tools etc) and a canvas pouch with a spare chain or 2 in case of leaving one in the woods or its too short. Huge improvement. Would like to have one myself
Works as well as you'd expect from something neighbor Dough had his hands on! Since the frame is so long might add another set of hooks for chains in the middle part for these shorter logs, but idk how often you really want to get small logs out even :D
Suggestion, in stead of lifting your bed to access your battery why not have a deep cycle battery in the bed to operate the winch and still have the UTV battery as a back up. A little more cost but a spare deep cycle battery on the farm has many uses.
Great video, Gentlemen! Now... for those needing advice on projects; Doug needs to start up a drive-through consulting business on his property. You show up with your idea, or project already underway. Drive into his new "building of creativity", get a 30-45 minute assessment for $65 and with rough plans in hand, drive out the other end. If you want on-scene help with initial fabrication, that'll cost you a minimum pre-agreed upon fee. (All assessments in the AM, all basic fabrications in the PM.) Appointments required. Be well, be safe!
An extra set of hooks in the middle would help on shorter logs. Adding the original hand winch on the front would give you the ability to hook and unhook the front chains without having to move the grapple on the electric winch. It should work quickly if you are just using it for a short pull. Perhaps mounted crossways?? And as others have said, quick connects for the winch power. Great job.
Funny you mentioned how it's faster and easier than the tractor with a grapple. I much prefer the grapple to dragging logs or using a log arch. no right option, just found it interesting.
Get a 1/4" binder and a short length of chain with a hook on one end. Then you can still carry ina basket but have enough pressure to stop any logs that may slide. May be unnecessary.
Great arch. What size and gauge tubing is used throughout? Ready to order stock and I tend to over engineer the beef factor and things end up too heavy.
suggestion for easy long log extraction from the woods 2nd arch that connects to first for getting out in the woods then detach and position at far end of log let tounge of Arch be high and work cable or chain under log then pull tounge down and secure to log this should raise that end to clear ground then connect the main arch and pull ..both ends be off the ground and let pull longer log for milling you say your mill will vut 16ff

It was a fun build! Thanks for putting it to the test and I think the ideas came through as working very well.
The One-Eyed MacGyver strikes again!
Nicely done Doug!
You are the man, as usual!
@@RVBob That's the perfect nickname for Doug
Where is the One Eye Custom sticker?

Doug did an awesome job. It looks so much more useable with Doug’s modifications.
It looks like your pond level has really come up. Congratulations

So glad neighbor Doug has a channel
Thank you, hope you enjoy!

Thanks Jim!
Again, we all wish we had a neighbor like Doug!!! Truly a good neighbor and beyond!!! Enjoying the videos on both channels.
I’ve said it before… Adam, having Doug as your neighbor; you are a blessed man indeed!! The Mad Scientist does it again 👍👍

Neighbor Doug is a very intelligent fabricator. Great guy to have around. Until next time have a great day
Awesome Dougification! Nicely done, guys. So fun to see Adam and Doug working together to get 'er done.
Always fun watching what Doug dreams up to make things better. This was a massive improvement over the original design. Well done!
Calling that a “mod” is an understatement and the low impact on the trails is definitely a huge plus. Great job, Doug!

You know if Neighbor Doug needs a new friend - I know a guy. We can be best friends! Great modifications and great video.
Awesome results! Once again Uno Oc proves to be an AMAZING RESOURCE AND FRIEND!

And can be used for further attachments.
I was thinking along the same line.
That works pretty slick. Thanks for sharing. Good job Doug.
Your woods is beautiful, side by side so fast no impact on the trails. I have a neighbor like Doug I'm very lucky.
6:58 add a cable to pin. Even after I tied hitch pins to my trailers, friends always seem to lose them. I might need new friends.
Add more hooks to accommodate shorter logs.

It’s good having a friend/neighbor like Doug 😊😊 awesome
Thanks for testing this out, it was a great idea Doug had and glad to see it worked out..
Great stuff! You're so lucky to have landed nest to Neighbor Doug!
Great result…..when a talented innovator also has the skills to bring ideas to a practical result. 👍👍

Great video Adam. Doug and his Dougifications will keep you busy since there is always a better way! obie
That was awesome! Great work, Doug. Please accept a virtual pat on the back for a job well done!
Adam, very nice job on the log arch. It was able to watch Adam's/Doug video on using the arch. Very cool. Carl FONDEROSA FARMS MD
Dougie hooked it up literally! Incredible improvements by neighbor Doug!
As I stated on Doug’s channel what can I say absolutely brilliant. Cheers my friends 👌🏻🔥🇨🇦
Neighbor Doug did a heck of a job! Great neighbor.
It must be really perfect to have neighbour Doug "MacGyver" right there. And a great friend too. Bonus!
“Dougified”, I love it! He does have a better way. Tim in northern TN

We’re definitely out of my budget. I’m working on an idea using power. If it doesn’t work I’m gonna have to look up Doug!
when hooking up cables, always hook up ground last. (black) love the log arch
Hey Doug, nice job . How a bout a quick release for the chains to release the logs. In stead of using the winch twice.
A quick release could also be used as an "emergency brake" for going downhill....anyone have suggestions on what to use for it?
Works well Adam, I hope you have a video coming with a 16' log to see if the log arch can really handle the big timber. Great video thumbs up.
Great job Doug!!!!! I hope you applied for a patent. I will guarantee the makers of the original will incorporate his ideas into their products. They will probably offer him a job.
Doug is amazing! Be nice with him, Adam.
Doug is a Genius … and i bow in his direction …
If expecting to use the winch a fair bit, take care that you don't flatten the battery, else leave the motor running during winching.
“These the new hooks you added, Doug?”
“Yep!”
“Let’s see how well you did welding it!”
😂😂 treasure your friendship, really good to have good neighbors!
I would add a high amperage power connector to the sidebyside, eg an Anderson power pole. That way not lifting the bed each time and you can leave it connected if you are fetching a few logs.
Also good if for jump starting as I have one on my Land Rover and a set of jumper cables to the Anderson connector.
Great upgrade to this log trailer. I might have to invest in one and do a smililar
Amazing job Doug
An excellent Dougafixcation. I almost recommended to stretch it out on the last video but I figured that Doug would figure it out. 😎👍👍👍👍👍
I think Doug doubled the value of that log arch! Very nice mods 👌
No one can go without having a neighbor Doug ❤😊🤩
Doug’s log arch mods are perfect!
I wish I had a “Neighbor Doug”!

WOW Doug is great as usual!! He should patent this?? Stay safe out there!!

Nice work Doug how about fitting as Anderson plug to the rear of the side by side instead of alligator clips.
If I were Doug, I would be in my shop building one just like that one.
However, Doug has probably already thought of some more improvements !! 🙂

Awesome practical genius at play!

Nice work. One more add to the electrical. Add quick disconnects rather than battery clamps.
You watch that company or another one will be coping that idea. Awesome engineering. Get your paten on that . Thanks. Craig Pa
It sure must be nice to have a neighbor like Doug. :)
Wow that works great, make Doug mod your arch and make him use it lol. good team 👍👍
Neighbor Doug sounds like an engineer by trade!
Neighbors like Doug are a blessing! What do you think of the UTV? You've had it for a while now,
Another Duggie win, great job!
Get a 1/4" binder and a short length of chain with a hook on one end. Then you can still carry ina basket but have enough pressure to stop any logs that may slide. May be unnecessary.
That works pretty slick. Thanks for sharing
Great arch. What size and gauge tubing is used throughout? Ready to order stock and I tend to over engineer the beef factor and things end up too heavy.
suggestion for easy long log extraction from the woods
2nd arch that connects to first for getting out in the woods
then detach and position at far end of log let tounge of Arch be high and work cable or chain under log then pull tounge down and secure to log
this should raise that end to clear ground then connect the main arch and pull
..both ends be off the ground and let pull longer log for milling
you say your mill will vut 16ff
Neighbor Doug is The Man!
You don't need to pull the log, you can just back over it. Modifications look great!
Doug is a genius!
Maybe you should get yourself a timber trailer for the UTV? That way you could transport more logs in one time. It will also be a lot more efficient.
Well done Doug! You guys will get very proficient over time, I’m sure. Please keep your fingers clear of that winch & cable.👍
Nice one Doug
