I went ice skating on a date and ended up buying skates, finding a sport I love, and signing up for lessons. Still single though 🤷will work on that later.
Coach Julia, I saw one of your videos about a year ago; I have finally decided to make a run on this sport and ready to put in some serious effort. Friends try to get me to play hockey with them, but in my heart is all figure skating, and so the journey begins ...
Tommorow I'll be on a school trip and we will go ice skating They had figure skating.. well skates and I chose them because I didn't knew wich one to chose between all the options These tips are going to be very usefull! Tysm
50 thousand falls; really? That’s terrifying. I have just started skating and had a first fall recently; landing awkwardly, backwards, on my hip and very nearly fractured my wrist. I’m not going back onto the ice until I have good wrist guards. Do you mention these in any of your tutorials; in my experience they are a great idea!! Thanks for the great tutorials.
I know it sounds terrifying, but most of the time falls aren't as bad as you might think. I do remember one day when I was working on landing my Axel and I was soooo close, and I fell 100 times in an hour. I actually counted because for some reason at the time I thought it was important. lol.
Just did Ice Skating for the first time for this year's Winter Wonderland and I was nervous and scared of falling but the tips are extremely helpful for next time. Plus I thought the aid (Fixed Height) I was provided wasn't tall enough and I find myself slouching forward.
Awe shucks, it’s already past skating day over here in my part of the world…I would’ve definitely went to the rink even though I usually don’t skate on Sundays. Just love the sport…the passion and fire that gets ignited from skating, can’t put to words.
Watching this even though i can never go into skating rinks because my fam doesnt really have time😚, once i have my own money i can go out on my own, these tips might be helpful, thank youu
Just discovered this video! I last skated when i was around 7-ish (and im now 12) so it has been a while! Im going ice skating this weekend with my friend and this really helped alot! 💗
at school were gonna go skating and i wanna actually skate instead of just holding onto the side so theres gonna be alot of people but this will help alot!
Julia - Another great video. Soo....... just an FYI, in your list of other videos, the links to the forward and backward crossovers are Backwards. Forward link goes to backward crossovers n vice versa. Not sure if you can edit or correct after video is posted, Just something I noticed. Watching the Forward crossovers next. Really helpful channel.
Hi Coach Julia, Do you have a list of all the videos you have done so I can download all of them? I have been skating for 20 some years for fun and love to learn and relearn all tutorials❤I fell in love with Figure Skating and don't want to stop Awesome exercise that has helped me in my life with everything physical. Keep up the awesome work.!!!!!
Oh my goodness, I have hundreds of videos, but I don't have a list of all the names anywhere. Glad you are still on the ice after 20 years of skating! Cheers to us older skaters who still skate!
I watched this video as I thought it might help me get back on the ice :( I broke my wrist really badly back in March after getting my grade two and I’ve not been back since :( do you have any tips for skating again and what I can do? I was having lessons and I lost my footing and tried to land correctly but it all went on my left wrist 😣
They do roll around sometimes. lol. But the old metal sliders they used to have were kinda dangerous and only one height. So this is at least better than that.
Smaller - skates need to be really snug to support your ankles well. But if you're hiring, just tell the people at the skate hire that you're a size 10 shoe and they'll give you the most likely size, then when you try it on if it's either too loose or so tight it actually hurts you can just go back and swap it. If/when you're buying your own pair, ideally you'd go into the skate shop to get fitted.
But don’t trust a skate shop, either. I paid a lot of money for skates I couldn’t wear. I am a size 10, borderline wide. I traveled to another state to a supposed specialty shop. The shop insisted I needed 8.5 narrow, and promised the toe box could be widened. My feet ached for the 8 months I tried to wear the skates, and I had open sores on the ankle bones. I ended up quitting skating altogether. That wasn’t the entire reason I quit, but was a big contributor.
My street size is 7 and my prop shop scanned my feet and the computer spit out 6.5 with confidence. I shook my head as I tried it on. Turned out 7.5. This happened two days ago. Will see
I've been skating for 3 years now and i still struggle with crossovers like i just cant cross my feet with out having a mini heart attack going backwards is even worse lol idk what to do I've just accepted the fact that ill just be a skater who only skates forwards and knows how to stop. 🥲

Oh my gosh that's awful. I am so sorry to hear that. Perhaps you can get a really nice wrist brace to give you a little extra support?
🙏🙏🙏🙏 thank you so much 🙏
😂 ive never seen the bucket thing... but cool idea (but wont they cause a mess if you take a tumble)

I wear a size 10 shoe should I get a size bigger skate or size smaller?

Ski gloves work as well
Not by the way, but makeup is gorgeous✨

When I took classes I stopped before a Lutz so never learned the proper entrance and the Lutz and exit to a lutz.❤Hint Hint if there is no video😊
Hey! I do have a tutorial for a Lutz! You can find it in the jumps playlist.
Thank you.
You are welcome!
