Great video! Thinking of doing this to my own, but its £500 in the UK for the 3 spoke steering wheel! Question - did you have any problems with the air bag light?
you clock spring wriggling around was very scary! I think I might tape mine down. I got a smaller wheel from DCT Motorsport and checked your video for removing the airbag connector.
Hey man, I am not able to tell from the video, but in my 996 the steering wheel is very soft in the middle and can be pushed in, is this normal? wondering if there is an airbag in there or not, its suppossed to be atleast.

@@HelpMeDIY serious question, I bought a red airbag and red 3 spoke steering wheel for my 99 986 BUT... They have tiptronic thumb buttons on them, was I supposed to buy the one without the buttons? Or will it still work regardless the buttons will just be for show?
@@maciojones5766 if you have a manual, yes, you were supposed to get the one without the buttons. As to wether or not it will still work, I’ve read that it’s still a straight swap over, there will just be nowhere to plug in the wires from the buttons. Some people even wired them up to control the OBC.

Whats the diffrence between the 997 splines and the boxster splines? Is it only the splines that prevents you from fitting a newer 997 wheel?
Good question. Sorry I don’t know.
there are rubber O rings in the 4 corners that only has to be replaced to fix the horn issue.
other that that, great tutorial. thank you!
Zdravko Petrov Thanks! Yeah, I bought the o-rings to fix it before I sell it.
what screen do you have in your center console
+@twizzywizzyfn a pioneer. Search my channel and there is an install video with a link to the exact model
What year/model did the 3 spoke wheel come out of?
+PJVWS good question… sorry don’t remember exactly. Got it online
Did you check to see if the airbag is compatible? It s really important for me... I want to make the same change
+Bogdan Iorgulescu yes it is
@@HelpMeDIY IM SCARED I bought a 911, 996 oem 3 spoke I think it won't fit on my 99 986 boxster steering wheel I already have a 3 spoke airbag
@@OG-Rarities.UnseenUnreleased why do you think it won’t fit? Easiest thing is to call a Porsche dealer and ask.
Where did you found your steering wheel? I’m looking for a grey one

Can I put 996 or 911 sun visor mirrors on my boxster 986?
+Scorsese Sneakercon Don great question. I’m not sure but hopefully someone else can chime in.
You didn't mention what the torque spec is when you tightened the steering wheel nut.
+Eric Ingman sorry, it’s 33 ft-lbs
where did you get that usb outlet next to your head unit?
MichaelV bought it at a car stereo store and installed it with the head unit
Hi. How do you control ac with that pioneer stereo?
@@siniskoyu the AC controls were moved to the bottom

@@HelpMeDIY I asked on a 996 forum, they told me it was normal though, so I guess I shouldn't worry about it.
@@mags3186 Interesting. Good to know, thanks!
Horrifically boring! Jaysus, can you just satop the video as you laboriously unscrew every single nut and bolt?
