      One pound of fat was all it resulted in, in the end... and maybe you would've lost that too, had you not 'splurged' a bit in Ohio. So all in all, you are a perfect example for people to show that no matter how bad their eating habits are now, if you eat healthily, bad blood and body markers may get better quickly. I'm also glad you didn't resort to detox fasting or something like that after the challenge but returned to 'normal' eating. Didn't you have a hard time eating in the days directly following the challenge? Weren't you still full from all that sugar and fat?

    It's always super encouraging to see a woman who is so intelligent be so... idk... KNOWLEDGEABLE in a field that many people deem "useless." I feel like people have this stereotype that people who workout are just meat heads who live and breathe "gym." But people like you, who go against the stereotype, encourages someone like me (currently going to uni for engineering) that I can maintain this lifestyle, even if I feel like I don't have time.
    Can you maybe do a video about working out and having to go to school at the same time? Like, how you balanced it all? I feel like that'd be super helpful.

    You said hitting the right combination of sweet/savory was key to being able to make it through the challenge. Very interesting! I remember reading about the right combination of fat, salt, and sugar used by fast food and junk food producers to leave consumers wanting more and never quite feeling satiated, and ultimately this tactic being one of the factors involved in today's obesity rates.

    Really interesting, didn't expect the human body to store fat at that rate, pretty scary actually :)
    A healthy food challenge with a more normal macro breakdown perhaps, just to see if overeating itself does the same as eating a overdose of sugar and fat. Not much fun to be had there though haha

      The human body does not gain body fat at that rate. She doesn't know what she is talking about. Extra water stored innthe fat cells can be read as a gain in fat mass. That is what happened here.

      David Major Agreed, how does someone who eats 1,500 cals/day normally digest food in that quantity and store between 10pm and 7am? She’s weigh more due to partially digested food in the intestines.

    This was sooo informative!!! I always wondered how these 10k eating challenges drastically change someones blood sugar and weight gain as well as heart health. Terrifying! Glad your health is back to normal safe and sound!
    Its alarmingly scary when other youtubers who do the 10k challenge dont bother pre-regulating their health before this troubling & dangerous 10k challenge. They can easily set themselves up for health problems due to their lack of awareness or care of where their blood levels are.

    What if you did a 10k calorie challenge on lean food ?
    Would the results be same?

    • @StephanieButtermore
      @StephanieButtermore  7 ปีที่แล้ว +108

      Nikhil Kumar Ramreddy not sure if the composition would have been different if i stuck to very high protein vs very high carb or very high fat but there is some research indicating the high protein would have been the least detrimental but would have been very hard to to and high carb is less likely to be stored as fast as dietary in an acute feeding but i think there needs to be more research 👍

    • @resantic2256
      @resantic2256 7 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      Nikhil Kumar Ramreddy What is lean food? A calorie is a calorie, in terms of body composition it doesn't matter if you eat healthy or eat McDonalds all day if calories are the same

    • @codysmith6765
      @codysmith6765 7 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      A calorie is a calorie, yes, but things like McDonalds are very high in sodium which can cause a lot of water retention. Also, calories aren't an exact science. There's still a lot we don't know about how the body processes food, but for now, calories are just a good estimate of how it works. I would say eating a low carb/low fat and high protein meal will keep you at least appearing leaner than vice versa.

    this was incredibly helpful to me. I am over weight and 4 months into a plant based diet. I'm really working hard. where this is insanely inspirational is in how it demonstrates to me that even normal weight people can do real damage to their body and it takes time to recover from a binge. I would always think that normal weighted people simply we're lucky and nothing happens to them. Not that I wish anything on anyone this gave me encouragement and also acted as a serious warning to me not to cheat thank you for doing this

    So interesting. Your takeaway is a good one, but I'm also excited about your BMR going up. So many people say refeeds help them lose more, but I was dubious - only because I thought it was a slippery slope. That said, a lot of dieting is known to drop bmr, so strategic refeeds may be an integral part of a successful long-term diet. Years of restriction have slowed my metabolism and I'm still having a difficult time with it. I wish in retrospect that I'd known to do this. 10k is obviously unnecessary, but maybe something more modest would be effective.

    Thanks for doing this. I'm sure a lot of us watched countless 10k challenge videos and maybe even thought of trying it without knowing the after math. Very informative, love it!

    FINALLEH! It's been so long since you did the challenge. I checked your channel multiple times since then just to make sure I hadn't missed the follow up video. :-P I would love to see more stuff from you. I feel like you would have a lot of knowledge to share w/ us!

    Maybe next time can measure 48hs before, or two weeks before so that your before number can be more accurate considering there's a lot of variables to count.

    I really enjoyed this video. No other videos shows the aftermath of doing a 10k and its so important to understand that as they are fun, they do have long term affect though we don't think so. Thanks for doing this!

    When you're doing your RMR it is VERYYY important to not move at all, not talk, not make any movements.... you're basically supposed to act as if you were sleeping... That can throw off the test results like crazy. But awesome video nonetheless.

    You should do a follow up to this video comparing your stats from this post to your stats these days now that you’re having regular cheat days! That would be so interesting (especially the metabolic rate part)!

    Hi Stephanie! I would love your "scientific thoughts" about intermittent fasting! Do you think its good for fat loss or is it better to have more frequent, smaller meals per day? I read so many pro's and con's about both that now I am just confused in what's best :D Love your videos, keep up the good work! xx
