Honda’s Fit and its Magic Seat offer a huge amount of cargo space, considering its subcompact size, a very comfortable interior, and some surprisingly luxurious features in a compact and inexpensive package. The Fit gets a refresh for 2018 and now offers more advanced safety features, an improved suspension, and the return of the Sport trim. The Fit can carry a ton of stuff, will commute comfortably and safely, and starts well under $20,000.
The Fit’s 1.5-liter 4-cylinder puts out 130 hp and 114 lb-ft with EPA estimates of 29 mpg city, 36 highway, 31 combined with a stick. With a continuously variable transmission, it offers 128 hp and 113 lb-ft, with estimates of 33, 40, 36. That’s not much power, but it works fine for the Fit. Honda Sensing, including forward-collision warning and avoidance, lane-departure warning, and road-departure mitigation, is standard in higher trims and available to lower trims with the CVT. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard in all trims but the base LX. Read the full review on CarGurus.com: cargur.us/kKGDX

I'm 6'8, and own the 2018 Fit EX, have four tall kids who all are able to get in and sit behind me with the seat all the way back. I even have headroom with the sunroof/moonroof. If you need a low-cost commuter with all the bells and whistles (adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, auto braking, auto lock/unlock, pushbutton start, rear camera, right lane turn camera), then this car is it.

I’ve only recently turned on notifications, and I’m noticing that I missed some messages… It is now April 2021, and my opinion stands… It’s my absolute favorite car I’ve ever purchased. I keep it maintained, and I do drive it at least 60 to 70 miles per week since Covid hit. Before Covid, I was pushing lots and lots of miles since I am an actively working musician.
Should the day come, in the, hopefully distant, future (sooo many commas!), I absolutely intend to get this generation Honda fit sport, with the 6-spd manual, again.

Drove all the way from nearly N.H. to New Jersey 220 miles to see a 2009 manual tranny stick shift with with only 100K miles for $3.5K. I put a deposit down to hold it and the next day took the Train back down to pick it up considering it a bargain. The awesome seller even picked me up at the Train Station. The car has no rust. Undercarriage is nearly spotless, engine purrs like a kitten everything works with new brakes, new winter tires already on it. I got this for my winter Car and hauling things. I couldn't be happier. What a solid fine car for the $$. Thanks to the former owner and thank you Honda for such an awesome little yet Big Car.......

The Fit is the only Honda product that I would give a 10. It is everything but sexy. For practicality and efficiency, it cannot be beat by anything on the road. It is "greener" than any hybrid or plug-in because it does not have an expensive battery that is polluting to manufacture.

I bought what I thought was a Fit Sport (fury orange, orange stitching, black wheels, body kit...) but I guess I got the Fit EX-L. If this is the Sport model, I was really sold a bill of goods, Honda even put a Sport badge on my hatch lid. This reviewer is a true gem... good job hiring this guy CarGurus. In my personal thinking, the Honda Fit 2018 is an excellent car, it gives you excellent performance with very good acceleration with a very striking sound for a car of that price, it has more interior space than what it can perceive from the outside since the car is quite compact, I love that have paddles at the wheel since added to its benefits you feel that you drive a sports car, the only thing that I really like about the car is that it is a little small but otherwise, it seems to me an excellent car. 9/10

  • @Feldspar__

To further add to the list of corrections needed the MPG cited for the CVT is only applicable to the base LX model, which gets 2mpg's better than other trims. This is because many sound isolating materials are omitted on the LX trim.

I bought a 2018 Honda Fit in March 2018 and August 2019 I went on a trip and left my car at a train station for 4 days and came back to a dead battery. I had to spend $175 for a new battery at 3 am and rode with the AAA lady to her workshop while she grabbed the battery for me. I was stranded 90 miles from home at 3 am and we finally got the car to go at 5 am.
I keep getting a "Tire Pressure" reading constantly and that's just miles from getting brand new tires this year.
It would not go off. I reset it and it still came on and a few days after I got my new tires I went back to the tire place
where they redid everything and the light still came on. I went to Honda where I bought it and they lowered the reading so that my Tire Pressure light wouldn't come on. That was about three months ago and the Tire Pressure light still comes on.
I just turned it off about 2 days ago...just waiting on the sensor to miss reread it again. I still have the correct air pressure and it still comes on. As soon as I'm finished paying for this jewel, I'm trading it in for something that won't worry me to death.
My lane change sensor is turned off but the blasted thing keeps shaking my steering wheel and lighting up...Lane Departure.
OH....I like the car, I just don't like waiting for another light to come on...plus Honda customer service SUCKS!
They denied me getting a refund on that battery even though I was within warranty.
According to that woman that I spoke with she said, "We don't have to give you the refund, so we decided that you are not getting the battery refund." After having a lengthy conversation with the service guys at Honda they gave me a refund.

I thought the third generation Fit had more than adequate acceleration when you need it for passing or getting onto limited access highways. With the CVT, the acceleration is so so smooth, that you don't realize you have been accelerating, until you look at the speedometer. You'll ask yourself, when did this thing reach 90 mph (145 kph)? We were just going 50 mph (80kph) a moment ago. What happens is the engine rapidly reaches 6600 rpm (redline is 6800). It stays rock steady at 6600 rpm. The engine is quiet and smooth. The CVT does all the work of bringing the wheels up to speed. But it does this gradually, and you don't feel the gear shifts and the sudden increases in g-force, alternating with let-ups in g-force, that one normally might expect to feel, in an accelerating car. This may trick some people into thinking that the car is not accelerating fast, when in actuality, it really is. Really, the little engine rapidly winds up to 6600 rpm and stays rock steady at that speed. Doesn't budge from that rpm.

This fit is not as pretty and fun looking to drive as it the first two generations. My 2010 Honda Fit Sport was the best. It was hit in Dec beyond repair and I am heartbroken because this new generation is not resonating with me as far as the body style. It looks more like an Odyssey and the back of a CR-V which is not my style. I am trying to talk myself into this Fit but I am not sure. It's like forcing yourself to fall in love and you just can't. Decent review of the Fit EX-L.

I thought the sport trim came w/black wheels and orange accent stripes along the lower edges...the EX is the better value IMO w/3 pedals of course...they really need an Si version of this car ASAP...the sport really needs a Spec-B suspension package or something from a racing prgm to give it more spice as nothing mechanical is different than the other trims; its all cosmetic do-dads...and their (honda) HPF add-on line is a complete waste...overall good car, but it needs a small bump in the hp dept to be a real hoot to drive...

One more thing I didn’t like about it was the location of the seat warmer buttons. Terrible for females because that’s where I sit my purse. My purse would always turn the seat warmers on when it is 100 degrees outside. I don’t like the location of the drink holders. That one on the left that blocks the vent is nice.

Descent review .. Honda did a great job with the Fit interior and especially by giving it a more traditional dashboard layout (and a very nice traditional shifter). Even with an (unfortunate) tiny volume knob (at least it is a knob) - it is still a MUCH better interior overall dashboard design than on the Honda CR-V, Pilot and Ridgeline. Why Honda can't give these a more traditional dashboard design (like the Fit) I will never know. As nice as the Honda Fit is there are a couple of things that CarGurus forgot to mention that are VERY important: the ride and the cabin noise. For any Honda Fit of any year that has been a MAJOR problem which Honda refuses to fix. According to Consumers Reports Mag, these are still is a Major (deal breaking) problem in the latest Honda FIt. Until Honda fixes the ride and handling of the Fit (not slightly but in a MAJOR way), and Honda fixes the terrible non-traditional dashboard designs of the Honda CR-V, Ridgeline, and Pilot - I can't buy any of these Hondas.

I just leased a 2018 Honda Fit and I don't like it. I got it because I'm retired and I couldn't afford an SUV. My Element finally gave up the ghost and I needed cargo space. The Fit is uncomfortable, has no storage space (as in pockets, trays etc.) and the heater/ac system does not effectively heat/cool the whole car or defrost that GIGANTIC windshield. The thing is so low to the ground I feel as though I'm in a roller skate.

I suppose my reaction comes from the fact that I drove an Element for 15 years and sat up much higher than the cars around me, except for other tall SUVs. My general perception is that many cars, or the majority of cars, have become very low in the interim (by that I mean the last 15 years). A lot of cars out there are what I consider to be "Minnie Mouse" cars like the Fit, so perhaps the entire line of sight has gotten lower.

I want to like this car. I really do. But can’t.
I bought a then-all-new ‘15 Honda Fit and after only a year, and 5k miles of ownership, had to get rid of it. This is not an easy car to live with day-to-day.
The Fit makes a great, initial showroom impression. Lots of rear and cargo room, plenty of versatility, the most impressive visibility and glass area of any modern car, loads of features even in base LX trim, high fuel economy, clear gauges and simple controls, and a few thoughtful touches like the natty cloth seats and pseudo chrome trim pieces to liven the interior.
But on the road, this car is a drag. The engine is decent in this class and compares well to other subcompacts. But it’s let down by a six speed manual transmission with short gear ratios that are annoying in traffic and on hills. The engine noise is relentless at all speeds and the sounds are more reminiscent of a Honda mower than their cars. This is an exhausting car on long trips. At least the slick shifter, expansive greenhouse, and precise steering made the Fit shine on windy, mountain roads. That was the only place the Fit was strangely in its element.
Inside, an extra few inches of rearward travel of the rear seats would’ve been appreciated. Taller front passenger’s knees dig into the dashboard. It was almost as though Honda designed the spacious rear seat first, and the fronts were an afterthought.
But the reliability was the biggest letdown. We had numerous trim issues, leaks, electrical gremlins, and creaks and rattles. The car made over a dozen unscheduled visits to the dealer in only 5k miles, and some of the issues were never rectified or reappeared. That’s embarrassing for any maker, and especially Honda.
We were glad to unload the Fit and get a Chevy Sonic. True to it’s word, the Fit did hold its value well. But the Sonic is so much more refined in noise and harshness, comfortable for front passengers, peppy on the road, and had bigger discounts. And in a strange irony for GM, has proven to be 100% reliable in 7k miles. Even the same price point, the Sonic is just more pleasant. The Sonic forsakes some rear seat space and fuel economy, but it’s absolutely worth it.
So yeah, I still want to like the little Fit, but there’s too much of a dark cloud from living with it

A Civic turbo with 53 cu ft of cargo space, rear magic seats that fold up, 31 real city mpg mileage (turbos get much lower city mpg than advertised), and a non-claustrophobic rear passenger area for $19,800 would be ideal.

Is it possible to overact while doing a car review... Yes. The music burned a hole in my brain, in a bad way. Just relax and tell us whether or not you like the car. Stop reading from the cue card and just give us the truth, it makes for better watching.

2:40 that long stare freaked me out, had to stop the video and go to comments. Presenters should show more car and less them.
