  • In this video I show you how to setup and use the Celestron Sky Portal WiFi Module to constrol your Celestron Telescope.
    It works really well with direct connection, but it can be abit clunky and unreliable when working in access point mode.

    Love controlling my 6SE via WiFi, SkyPortal has great audio tidbits about what I'm looking at. The narrator's voice is very soothing.

    Thanks for this. I am amazed of all the posts regarding this device that is a complete waste of time! This is the only one that compliments the manual that came with the device. Thanks for this - exactly what I needed.

    Great video thanks I don’t suppose you get to see an image on the screen of what the scope is seeing?
    Also any idea what the difference is between the 3 models? I would like to be maybe 25m remote from the scope and indoors so wondered if the newer models improved the Wi-Fi signal?
    Thanks for any help
    Cheers

    • @SpectrumGeeks
      @SpectrumGeeks  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the newer models are just more reliable, but all use the same WiFi technology. 25m line of sight should work ok.
      You don't get to see what the scope is seeing as there is no webcam looking at the lens, you would need to add extra add ons to be able to achieve this.

    • @brocky436
      @brocky436 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SpectrumGeeks yes we’ll 25 m might do it for me so will give it a try I do have a cannon dslr which I am planning to attach to the back of my Celestron 5se (hopefully utilising astroberry!) the cannon does have Wi-Fi also but would you tend to run a separate video cable to see the objects being viewed?
      Sorry for so many basic questions but hope you agree we’ve all got to start somewhere 🧐
      Anyway thanks again really is appreciated

    Thanks for the video, I’m having issues with a error on mine only got it today, “4/10 alignment target is too far from the telescope positions any ideas / advice would be appreciated

    • @SpectrumGeeks
      @SpectrumGeeks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have had that a couple of times. I think its because its trying to slew the scope to a parameter it cant support. So I have just moved my scope abit and restarted the process. Sorry but I am still new to this also really :)

    Just installed mine today, useful to see how things worked whilst following the printed instructions. I’ve not tried yet but once aligned I take it the screen on the hand control changes to show ready?

    • @SpectrumGeeks
      @SpectrumGeeks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, you don't want to use the hand controller once using the Sky Portal App. All configuration and control happens there. If you use the controller as well it gets confused.

      @@SpectrumGeeks Figured as much, just wondering if the display changes. I’ve ordered the Aux splitter tonight. Such a daft design!

    • @SpectrumGeeks
      @SpectrumGeeks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ChrisUK27 Yeah the positioning is poor. Not had time for any telescope action lately, so can't remember the screen changing off the top of my head.

    Does this by chance use your phone's GPS to auto-align the telescope?

    • @SpectrumGeeks

    I want to control my telescope thru my tablet. so i need to hotspot my phone to tablet first the to wifi adaptor can this be done?

    • @SpectrumGeeks
      @SpectrumGeeks  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes and no. Your tablet can only be connected to 1 WiFi network at once, so either the WiFi module or your phone.
      If you have WiFi at home you can join the WiFi module to your home network and then use your home WiFi.

    Recent update 3.3.4 won't open on my iPad or iPhone X. Completely useless to control or align my Evolution scope or StarSense. What a DRAG. Worked perfectly until 3.3.4. My advice.... DON't allow the update. Manually stop all updates until they repair this issue. I'm trying to find a site that has OLDER versions available to upload so I can use my scope while the weather hangs in there.

    • @SpectrumGeeks

    FYI .. You said RJ11, i believe its an RJ12?

    • @SpectrumGeeks
      @SpectrumGeeks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      To be honest its a partial assumption on my part. I didn't check the pin outs (11 and 12 being the same form factor), but the RS232 interface on Celestrons tend to be RJ11 so I made an assumption. So thanks for clarify its RJ12.
