    We should all be so lucky to have a friend like Anna to ride with and help us out in a pinch trailside.

    I used the H limit screws to create a "single speed," by screwing it in to keep the chain on the gear we thought would work for the ride out. The derailleur cable was reaped out buy a root!

    At least will the new Sram technology there’s no gear hanger to bend
    Just have to take a spare frame, when the carbon dropout snaps 😏😉😂😂

    Gaffer tape and duct tape are two distinctly different products. You can use gaffer tape most anywhere you can use duct tape but not vice versa, gaffer tape is also generally way more expensive than duct tape, made of cloth, and won’t leave the same residue that duct tape does.

    A much better headseat hack: Borrow a headseat spacer from someone else, putting it on top of the stem. Clamp the stem nice and tight, and return the borrowed spacer. It should get you home and then some.

    I have taken to keeping a tiny bit of gear cable in the bottom of the CamelBak for if I do snap a cables. Happened to me ages ago and made life so much easier rather than carrying the whole cable tied to the chainstay

    4:28 No need to undo the inner/outer cables. Just use your multi-tool and use the H screw to set the desired gear.

    • @nikveldkamp8630
      @nikveldkamp8630 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haven't tried it yet, can you wind in the H-screw that far that you can stick to the middle of the cassette, or does it only keep you away from the hardest or 2nd-hardest gear ?

    • @CyclingLifePT
      @CyclingLifePT ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nikveldkamp8630 It will depend on the "pro level" of the derrailleur. If you are buying top tier, race ready, team supported range of components such as Ultegra/Dura-Ace and XTR, you may not have much 'screw' because for that level of componentry they are trying to save on weight. But for 'trekking/city/touring' level you should have enough slack to put it on a comfortable gear. The same could be achieved on the front derrailleur.
      I'm running on Claris 3x8, and Shimano 105 2x11, and i can tell you i've already used this trick on my front derrailleur (Claris) once the cable snapped mid ride and i had to set it to the middle (39T)

    I carry a spare mec hanger every ride. I have bent one on the trail and it's a 15 minute fix and the hanger is small and lightweight. Why leave it at home?

    I was impressed with the gear cable hack, and that's coming from someone who has cycled and done his own bike builds & repairs for 40 years, I think there isn't a problem I haven't come across....God damn have I had to do some weird repairs to get home, yeah gaffa tape is up there with grip ties for emergencies

    I use zip ties to tie my cables together at the head tube and on the seat stays near the brake caliper. Gives my bike a much cleaner look and quieter ride.

  • @davidbernadine
    @davidbernadine ปีที่แล้ว

    All cable ties can be reused. Just lever a thin flat screwdriver or a thin pointed item inside the tooth of the cable tie to release it from the locking section and pull the other end of the cable tie to release it.

    blown a tyre/tube... Fill the tyre with grass/straw... the drier the better and pack as hard as you can.. then repack after a bit of riding..
    It isn't pretty, but if you have a long way to go, it may be better than destroying a rim or carrying the bike all that way...
    Even if your just pushing the bike home... and it's a long way, a tyre full of grass is easier to push than a deflated tube, and a LOT easier than carrying said bike.
    Yes I have done this.

    These huge rear 1x derailleurs are a disaster waiting to happen. Same for carbon fiber wheels.

    • @silvercamp3303
      @silvercamp3303 ปีที่แล้ว

      See how close to the ground the chain is on a 1x setup and compare it to a 3x7 setup. See how huge a 1x rear derailleur is and therefore prone to damage. 1x is a silly idea.

    • @playgroundchooser
      @playgroundchooser ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@silvercamp3303 I went from a Shimano Deore 3x6 to a Shimano SLX 1x12. I'll never go back to a multi chainring setup again. The 1x is so much easier and better shifting. Sure it hangs out, but I also broke a chain and had to do some serious work on my 3x at times as well. Also, the biggest thing for me is the fact that I was able to replace my chainring with a narrow wide 30 tooth. Super easy.

    • @silvercamp3303
      @silvercamp3303 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@playgroundchooser I get your point and obviously the 1x set up is successful and popular not only because of the marketing but because there are merits to it.
      Personally, if I had to run a 100km hard off-road marathon with no tech support then a 3x setup would be my one and only choice.
      I am not talking performance or weight but I am talking about durability and options to perpetual trouble along the way :)
