So you can make an opportunity attack whenever someone exits your reach, someone enters your reach, someone moves within your reach, or someone makes an attack within your reach, as many times as the number of enemies you are fighting per round, to reduce their speed to 0. This build could take on a hoard near single handedly, and they don't even have any aoe.
If you don't care as much about Unarmed Fighting and want to have even more protection options, I might take Interception instead. It works even if you don't have a shield, and is basically just a bunch of free damage reduction. You already have a bunch of good reaction options, but it could be good to have for if you run out of Warding Maneuvers. I'm currently playing a bodyguard Paladin with this fighting style, and I have used this ability to save my charge from death by massive damage at least three times now.
God bless you Tulok for making one of my favorite side characters from the MCU. More importantly you gave her animal handling the exclusion of which would have made me consider this a failure. Bravo and well done sir.
I played a bugbear version of this in my last campaign with tough and crusher (I was wielding a goedendag) instead of resilient and defense instead of unarmed fighting style, with crusher when you stop someone mid tracks via hold the line you can also push them back away from their target. By the end, the dm basically banned cavalier from future campaigns.
Polearm Master allows you to make an opportunity attack when a creature ENTERS your reach, as in moves into your reach from outside of your reach. Hold the Line allows you to make an opportunity attack when a creature moves 5 or more feet WHILE WITHIN your reach. These are not the same trigger.
The Steve Harrington build walked so the Okoye build could run. It's fun how two characters with very different characterizations can have essentially the same race/class/subclass breakdown.
Interesting notion: their lack of experience doing battle with other civilizations likely contributed to their still using melee weapons. Some African tribes up until modern times continued using ancient weapons because their only enemies used the same kind of weapons. Once a civilization encounters more advanced weapons, only then do they tend to evolve militarily. The surprise isn't that Wakanda still uses melee weapons, the surprise is that they managed to evolve so far militarily despite their relative isolation from the rest of the world.
My headcanon for these character builds is that they're DND races reading a special Tulok tome that helps them become those characters you built. That explains things like the Xenomorph being stronger than Goku and things like that.
I have to agree being a bodyguard is fun but make sure you talk that out before hand. A player decided he was the self appointed guardian of this one pc and it was a little weird.
When I hear stories of people making characters tied to another character without... like... talking to that player about it? it absolutely boggles my mind. Why are people like this.
This is a great example of a character being one class based on what they do and another class based on their lore. Mechanically, she is definitely a Cavalier, but lore wise she is 100% a Crown Paladin, although she definitely doesn't have the charisma to back it up
Prediction Time: Variant Human or Custom Lineage Fighter with PAM-Sentinel due to her vibranium spear usage, with Interception or Protection Fighting Style to be a better bodyguard. Edit 1: Unarmed Fighting wasn't expected, but makes enough sense and also doesn't eat your reaction for PAM. Cavalier also makes sense, I didn't think of that subclass. Might as well double up on its level 10 feature and Sentinel Edit 2: I love the Fighter. This build is simple and great. Bravo.
D&D 4th Edition was when I built my first combatant focused on polearm mastery - Breeze was a longtooth shifter figter who chose polearm specialisation, and while hi was far from the biggest damage dealer, he was great at tripping, blocking and maneuvering opponents. A lot of fun I hadn't expected. Okoye looks to be made from a similar mold, and looks to be even more fun :)
I have been waiting for a polearm master build! I am currently building a Battlemaster with Polearm Master + GWM + Sentinel, but I have never thought of this!!! Great video!
The reason the first part of Polearm Master does not apply to to pikes is because pikes are absurdly long, reaching up to 25 feet, so swinging one would be very hard
I could see a River Tam build leaning heavily into bladesinger wizard (I mean look at her fight scenes in Serenity, it is very much a dance). High INT, DEX, WIS, lower end CON, STR, CHA.
No magic damage? No problem! Drop off your spear (or preferred melee weapon) overnight with a blacksmith and get it silvered. Now it overcomes resistances and immunities to nonmagical weapons and most important of all, it’s shiny.
I made a Warforged Guard/superhero build and took Alert at level 1. That woman in markarth’s market can’t get stabbed if notice the stabber approaching her first and pike him right in the side, activating the fire rune to instantly apprehend him.

the bodyguard for the one guy encased in vibranium is many layers of badass, but i found weird that the one person who fight with a pointy stick (even is an indestructible one) can call guns primitive, we get it its a space material and sheep but even your engineers use space guns! EVOLVE! Her temper is clearly on the "easy to be pissed to the point of killing you" side, but i cant be mad with someone capable and focused in her job to keep her peers safe, protecting the people around you is a value even Tangle the lemur share, surely mixing them in the same game would give the Okoye player an absolute awful migraine, but it could make an amazing interaction once differences are supraced! hope that Tulok make a build for the heroic lemur one day.
To optimize this build you could get 3 levels of ancestral barbarian and still keep double action surge, but it's said in movie that their uniforms are vibranium armor, so it's probably heavy armor.
@@exqueue3813 I would actually say 6 levels of ancestral barbarian is ideal because spirit shield is really powerful. Additionally if you want you can remove unarmed fighting style because you’ll rarely get to use you can get the defense or two weapon fighting style for good measure.
@@NobodyDungeons i'd personally only go 2 levels of barbarian. Giving up cavalier 18 is really rough, but giving up your 2nd action surge at fighter 17 is a no go. It's too powerful to give up to get ancestral 6 which is redundant with warding maneuver at cavalier 7.

Small rules dispute: The exact wording of the hitting people who hit other people next to you in sentinel is the following "When a creature within 5 feet of you makes an attack against a target other than you (and that target doesn't have this feat), you can use your reaction to make a melee weapon attack against the attacking creature." This isn't an attack of opportunity, just another attack you can make as a reaction. So you wouldn't be able to stop them from running away, should you use this option.

The point was that it's not a quality of "unions" as much as it's a quality of "people". If I said "charities are good at corruption" it wouldn't be a good reason not to give to charity as a whole, and yet some people may take it as an excuse to never give to charity. Bane is stronger than superman, xenomorph is stronger than Goku... When they're not using their magic. Bane could absolutely take out Supes in the Antimagic Field of a Red Sun. And Goku is just dumb enough to agree to a no ki nonsense tournament fight against the ultimate genetically engineered predator because it sounded fun, on the premise of a "fair fight" since it can't use ki either. We've already seen precedent in Cell games and Tournament of Power.
I'd really like too see you builds of characters like ash williams, rambo, robocop, freddy krueger, leatherface, and kratos from the original god of war games
The hate people show for the Fighter is so backwards XD Players choose the other classes, then build them in such a way that they are the most effecient they can be, eliminating large portions of character as their Aasimar Hexblade Paladin destroys all encounters. Meanwhile, the Cavalier Fighter is a prime example of the Fighter being the most vanilla yet most efficienct class in DnD. You get to pick the stats you want because they're are so many ways to play it and so many ASIs to give them to you. Attacking more than once is often so much better than anything else. All weapons and armour? That sounds like a character choice. Feats? Yummy! And don't forget, all of this is achieved before you choose your race, background, any mutliclasses, and your backstory - which the Fighter largely encourages because it is such an open-ended class
Shuri: Repelling Blast Warlock with Artificer is my guess, since she is the genius inventor who made the Black Panther suit and other advancements, and has her concussive arm weapons. What Patron would Bast the cat goddess be?
