The organist has this virtual pipe organ in his home. What's to come of all those days and nights of shivering in a cold auditorium trying to practice? This is a sweet setup!
When I moved to West Michigan in the mid 1980s, on Sunday mornings there was a wonderful radio program on WBLV-FM. Called "With Heart and Voice," it followed "Pipe Dreams" and opened with this song. I still remember its opening: "This is With Heart and Voice, and I'm Richard Gladwell, your host." Even though Mr. Gladwell passed away in 2009, I'll never forget the radio program he started. Thank you for performing this song, and in so doing flooding me with wonderful memories.
Bill Laut I listen to With Heart and Voice too. I miss Richard Gladwell; I thought of him as a friend, even though I never met him. I am an enthusiastic amateur organist; have been for 30 years.
I accompanied Dr Virgil Fox with whom I was working, two times when he went to the Tabranacle Organ where we shared quality time with Dr. Frank Asper. The next day as his guest we enjoyed meeting President and Mrs Joseph Fielding Smith who at that time were standing against possibly seriously rebuilding the instrument. They all spoke for quite awhile about the matter. If you care to communicate,I have other memories and stories about the organ and its builder.
I've played this video recording three times this morning. What a grand organ work and so authoritatively played by Rob Stefanussen. Like other Commentators here, I was introduced to this piece listening to the syndicated program "With Heart and Voice" played on Sunday mornings on what was then my regional classical FM station from Interlochen, Michigan. I am challenging European organists on YT to record this piece from their recital halls.
@014095b The software is Hauptwerk, the computer is an 8-core MacPro with 16 GB RAM the hardware is by Classic Midi Works, and the price came to ~US$22,700. Do a google search for "stefanussen organ setup hauptwerk" and it should be the first result, on the Organ Forum.
Our organist at St. Louis Church in Pittsford, NY (Stephanie Honz) played this while waiting for the 1:00pm mass to start on Easter Sunday. It was played pretty much the exact same way as this.
Ditto earlier comment, RIP Richard Gladwell. We get "With Heart and Voice" every Sunday evening through our local NPR station. Nice performance Mr. Stefanusson.
I'm not an organist, but a musician who has lived in Europe for decades and attended many classical organ concerts. I'm so amazed by the Hauptwerk sound! I want one!
Thanks for this fine recording! David Johnson was my organ teacher at Arizona State, where I did graduate work in the early 70's. So good to hear his music live again!
I love this song! I grew up listening to it every Sunday morning on a local radio show that played religious and choral music called "With Heart and Voice." For some reason it always brings me to tears every time I hear it., this time was no exception! Awesome job performing!
That show is still on... I listen every week I fell in Love with Pipe Organ Music as a Boy in Wannamaker's Department store and St Patrick NY. When I was stationed in the UK and Europe in the Air Force, I traveled to Cathedrals all over Europe and the UK... Such fun !
Nice job as usual. It's interesting to go through your videos and watch the growth...larger organ, better camera work, and you've gotten married...Congratulations. It was nice to FINALLY SEE YOUR FACE. Feel like we know you better now. Very nice camera work and editing Jasmin. Marvin "Webster Canyon Lake/San Diego CA (Organist and television crew (retired, sad to say) at a church where we used 8 cameras per service and broadcast all over the world every week.)
El Órgano es una Maravilla... Increíble como suena...si pudiera tocarlo un Pisco... sería el hombre más feliz del mundo.....Felicidades Organista...sigue tocando...dale caña....
This was the theme music for "With Heart and Voice", an excellent syndicated program on our local classical music station that showcased all kinds of organ music. Love this piece!
Thank you for a very enjoyable rendition of the Trumpet Tune. I have to say that it is a pleasure to watch as well a hear you play. Such a sound technique....your hands are quite relaxed. Always a pleasure!
to add to my previous comment......amazing playing! wonderful sound for an electronic organ! i grew up playing a baldwin 3 man....don't remember how many stops but quite a few. the sound you can get today compared to what you got from the older electronic organs is simply astounding!
I am finishing up with my first virtual organ case for my home music studio. The looks and sound will I'm sure make people take a second look to see how this can sound so good! Thanks to the Hauptwerk Community for all the work you have done in providing an alternative that is affordable for us all. James Begly / Pipes and Strings
O add my plaudits to others who compliment the excellent playing and the instrument. This "Virtual" organ is a one-in-million machine. If it was in the loft of the National Cathedral in Washington, DC , I would not recognize the difference. Well Done!! Thanks!
This performance brings back fond memories of listening to WXXI's (Rochester, NY) Peter DuBois on his Sunday morning program "With Heart and Voice". Trumpet Tune was the opener and closer with wonderful scared music in between.
Thank you for this and many other uploads! Not only can we hear such great playing, but to see your relaxed fingers and technique is fantastic! Many thanks again!
Dear Rob, Ive been listening a while to your uploads - and would like to really appreciate you on the following: Very neat, clean and precise finger and pedal work!! The registrations chosen are perfectly balanced and make all the parts come out crystal clear!! Great job and may God bless in all your future organ work!! kind regards, Avinash.
I am not a musician, a piano or organ player either. I am not a musician as well but when I heared this piece. I am so inspired and hope to study how to play keyboards as amazing as you sir. Thank you.
Realino Buragay I am an enthusiastic amateur organist. I have liked this piece ever since I heard With Heart and Voice on Public Radio 30 years ago. I have been an enthusiastic amateur organist for 30 1/2 years.
What a glorious sound! Playing is measured and masterly. I live near Dundee, Scotland, which boasts the magnificent Caird Hall Harrison & Harrison concert pipe organ, reputedly the finest example in the UK. This sound reminds me very much of it - deep 32 ft. open wood rolling bass notes and lively chorus reeds. Wonderful! Thank you for uploading it.
NPorganist the organ in King's College Chapel in Cambridge is also a Harrison and Harrison. I have not been to Cambridge but I do a lot of cybertraveling so I am familiar with the organ in King's College Chapel.
Organ Guy I thought the same thing. By the way, my nickname is Forest Green Organ Geek, and my channel is ILoveForestGreen&PipeOrgans. "Forest Green" is the name of what I think is the best melody ever composed; it's a hymn tune by Rafe Vaughan Williams.
Its thrilling to me being so fortunate to have worked for Dr. Virgil Fox for 17 years and to have heard so many great instruments,to now see the serious positiv important development of electronic instruments. They have come so far , in this case David, your artistry is worthy of praise. I am subscribing and look forward to more of your work. In what I hear, I believe part of the success is the speaker quality which will make or break the success of the final outcome of tone. Blessings t you
Excellently performed organ piece for that type of organ. I heard this selection many yrs. back on a Sacred Music program called With Heart & Voice ,which was Broadcast on a Classical Music Station W.X.X.i . as their into main theme. aired every Sunday morning . Great Theme .
I have my Johannus digital organ hooked up to my PC to run my Haverville ext. set. I have several organs and simply love playing my setup. Had no idea how much power and memory was needed to run these samples! i7, 32G RAM, dual RAID 15K RPM drives, etc. for the full reverb and complete sample waveforms. Good job on your rig! You play well. For those of you out there that want to do this hobby, save well over $10K for a well-appointed setup. Organ samples can go well over $700 each.
@Tombo5150 Classic Midi Works (Google it) do Pedalboards, Manuals, Keycheeks, Benches, Swell Shoes, Console Tables, Midi Interfaces and more. Basically, the sell everything you need to get a Hauptwerk console up and running, but they are expensive. Their manuals have combination pistons on them, but they are unlabeled. I think Rob used a label maker on his organ. Hope this helped Brendan
Cannot recall if I have commented before. I fell in love with this piece listening to "With Heart & Voice" (I believe) over the radio. I truly enjoy yours! It is lively like the other. I've listened to others who have played this (on TH-cam). Theirs is much slower. Again, great job! Your organ has a "cathedral" sound, too...
It is indeed the theme to the "With Heart and Voice" show. I don't like the newest rendition of it as recorded by the present host (David DuBois) as played on a Casavant instrument. The British organ the former host used, Richard Gladwell was much nicer, IMHO.
gmc0422 I listen to With Heart and Voice too. I miss Richard Gladwell; I thought of him as a friend. I'm an enthusiastic amateur organist, have been for 30 years.
I am a huge fan of the organ voluntaries (Trumpet Tunes) of David N Johnson. I came to them via the “Organ Fireworks” CDs by Chris Herrick on Hyperion. It’s a shame the scores are hard to find in the UK; but it’s good to hear a good performance by Rob Stefanussen. Even if it’s not a proper organ ;-)
As a 'purist' listener it took me quite a while to reconcile myself to the introduction of electronics into the grand arena of pipes and wind. Allen have done a superb job over the years by using samples rather than electronic tone simulation. So, even though I'm listening to this excellent work by Johnson through speakers, it's obvious that this virtual organ is a quality piece of work and well used by its owner :)
Thanks Brandon, it's good to see you around The Organ Forum from time to time, though I find it's getting harder and harder to find good pipe organ discussion on there nowadays!
Thanks Montie, I'm often tempted to inundate my channel with shorter or less interesting clips since splicing together these videos really is a lot of fun.

This piece was for the processional at our wedding which was played on a Schantz. Trust me--if wasn't played this well!
I accompanied Dr Virgil Fox with whom I was working, two times when he went to the Tabranacle Organ where we shared quality time with Dr. Frank Asper. nicht nur "nice" sondern hervorragend. Chapeau !!!

Mark Ferwerda I am enthusiastic amateur organist.
Ez a mű - és az előadás - belopta magát a szívembe!
Fül után leírtam, s azóta nyitó számként használom! Nagyon megszerettem! Lelkesít!
templomban meghallgatnám!

I remember that radio program. The best radio program for choral and religious music I've heard.
That show is still on... I listen every week
I fell in Love with Pipe Organ Music as a Boy in Wannamaker's Department store and St Patrick NY. When I was stationed in the UK and Europe in the Air Force, I traveled to Cathedrals all over Europe and the UK...
Such fun !
Lovely!
After all these years, this is still the definitive recording I always come back to! ☺️
Going to recommend this piece for graduation this year
Same! I remember watching this for the first time in 2012.
It's Hauptwerk virtual pipe organ software.
The best!!!
ALWAYS a pleasure watching and listening to your excellent video posts, If you posted everything you played I'd still crave more.
Nice job as usual. It's interesting to go through your videos and watch the growth...larger organ, better camera work, and you've gotten married...Congratulations. It was nice to FINALLY SEE YOUR FACE. Feel like we know you better now. Very nice camera work and editing Jasmin.

I thought Doug Marshall performance was the best, but you are running a close 2nd. Excellent, beautiful! Thank you
El Órgano es una Maravilla... Increíble como suena...si pudiera tocarlo un Pisco... sería el hombre más feliz del mundo.....Felicidades Organista...sigue tocando...dale caña....
👍👍👍👌👌👌👏👏👏
One of my absolute favorite trumpet tunes. Thanks for such a great performance of it.
I love Baroque music especially on the organ! This is marvelous! Love it and orgam is so beautiful!
babyRoses7 the organ is my most favorite instrument.
The highlight of my evening. Thanks for posting.
Bravo! You play the organ the way it should be played...with vigor, joy and skill! Thanks for sharing your music!
This was the theme music for "With Heart and Voice", an excellent syndicated program on our local classical music station that showcased all kinds of organ music. Love this piece!
As Usual, Brilliant! You really do inspire me to practice more!

How awesome... its glorious bravo
Not heard this before - it's great and makes a change from the other (nice) dominant trumpet tunes that get played quite often.
O add my plaudits to others who compliment the excellent playing and the instrument. This "Virtual" organ is a one-in-million machine. If it was in the loft of the National Cathedral in Washington, DC , I would not recognize the difference. Well Done!! Thanks!
Yours is my fav version on the web. thank you so much your organ sounds great. i want to hear this when i die.
marvellous.... always hearing it to calm down from work!!!! it makes me feeling good!!! :-D
I haven't heard this song played more beautifully... Excellent job as always.
His hands and feet impressive to watch! Well done Rob. Lovely piece of music too
This is absolutely perfect! Beautiful piece!
Wonderful. Richard Gladwell, late host of WXXI's "With Heart and Voice" must be proud of you.
Tony Plante I am sure he is; although I never met him, Richard seemed like a very nice gentleman.
Love this piece! Beautifully played.
Good playing, sounds good!
Beautiful music and well executed.
This performance brings back fond memories of listening to WXXI's (Rochester, NY) Peter DuBois on his Sunday morning program "With Heart and Voice". Trumpet Tune was the opener and closer with wonderful scared music in between.

You are really good, young man. Marvelous rendition on a spectacular instrument...for a 10x10 room! Wow! I want one!
I swear I thought at first this was a Pipe Organ, Brilliant, not to mention the talented pedal work..

Excellently performed organ piece for that type of organ. I heard this selection many yrs. back on a Sacred Music program called With Heart & Voice ,which was Broadcast on a Classical Music Station W.X.X.i . as their into main theme. aired every Sunday morning . Great Theme .

What a fantastic instrument .. could have sworn from the opening sequence that it was being played inside a church or cathedral.
James Sewell it *does* sound like the organ is in a cathedral. I love the acoustics.
very nice
@Brian! I didn't even mention a trumpet at all! Loool! All I said was I love baroque music and the organ is beautiful! Lool!
Divino, glorioso!
Hi accousticdecay, I've also enjoyed your hymn tune videos. I'd love to see more!

I wish I could play like that. It was like being in the most heavenly cathedral.

Brilliantly performed
Briliant!
