This video is beautifully technical. But, to be honest, I've watched it 4 times over the last few weeks while I learn more about suspension. It finally makes some sense after weeks of research on the jargon.
Recently purchased an Evil Following with this shock and had been unable to find anything on the Rock Shox site that explained what the blue lever did. Thank you.
The Rockshox documentation for this shock is terrible. THANK YOU Chris Mandell for a clear explanation of the various adjustments on this shock! I just swapped out my SID Luxe Ultimate with the Deluxe Ultimate and I'm looking forward to riding with it.
Just picked up a trek top fuel with this type of shock think I understand what you mean by damping in plus or minus set up position. Would appreciate a little bit more definition of the term damping. Did you find the rebound control to be a little difficult to turn in such a tight position.
so - 1st ride, Giant Reign, with Super deluxe ultimate 2021 shock - wow cant find the words. i am riding enduro mainly and my old shock was Deluxe+. Even after installing MegNeg on Deluxe+ the rear was dead, traction was non existent and wheel bounced like crazy - i tried to combat it will lower tire pressure but that was not helpful. After research i went for 2021 and installed MegNeg. I felt slow as the rear end was on the trail and instead of skidding (ever breaking w my old shock) i could just modulate the speed - rear perfectly planted, also same for peddling uphill - tons of traction. I have also upgraded my Yari to Charger 2.1 - bike feels like a new steed and just safer overall.
Sorry a bit off topic, but I'm looking high and low for what that lever does on my Rockshox Deluxe Select Plus shock. If it is meant to be a compression adjuster, or if it is just meant to be either up or down (lock-out/not locked lever). Thanks!
@@mtbmagazine so... the deluxe select+ has a lockout? The ultimate doesn't have a lockout? I'm confused If so, does it mean that the select+ is actually better in terms of climbing, while the ultimate is better for more aggressive downhill?
Shocks aren't measured in travel like forks are since the linkage dictates that. You will need to get this shock in the same stroke length and eye-to-eye as your existing shock or as close as possible.
Just bought a new bike and can’t understand which shock I have. Bike specification says Deluxe Ultimate RLR, but I can’t have a Lockout. By the serial number it seems to be a Threshold shock but I can’t be sure. Can you help?
There was a period of time when Fox had better rear shocks (generally speaking), but RS has been catching up lately. The opposite happened to the forks, when RS presented the Pike.
Can the Rockshox Deluxe Ultimate be used on an E-Bike? I ask because the Rockshox website says, regarding the Ultimate model: "A perfect match for the current crop of ultra-lightweight and capable dream bikes". My E-Bike weighs 52 lbs - so not "ultra-lightweght". In other words, is the Rockshox Deluxe Ultimate only for ultra-lightweight bikes?
@@mtbmagazine Thanks so much for answering! When you say "probably not the best choice for e-bikes either" - is it because the shock is not built strong enough for e-bikes?
you can put any oil in any shock. I don't know what weight the stock oil has but I'm assuming it's higher than 2wt and if you find it overdamped you can of course use a lighter oil.

I did come over from an x-fusion but on my Marin hawk hill it feels absolutely amazing...first ride impression fyi

1:30 so not interchangeable from one bike to the other ?
Nice video, and GigaChad beard)
Greetings, is it possible to install remote control to this shock absorber?

It's a lockout

I just got this exact shock for my bike, need a baseline for set up, but I can’t find it anywhere. Someone have a link?
Ghostrider304 count how many clicks there are on your compression/ rebound and then set them both half.
Start with middle on everything and sag set up, thats your baseline.
What is the travel of this shox? Can it be fitted on marin hawk hill 1? Thanks!
I’m trying to find that out as well...I like SRAM but man their site is horrible
@@TonyPuleo1 thanks, ride safe

What is the website to enter my shock absorber serial number and know the reference of the 200-hour kit? thanks
Love the video!
Can this be mounted upside down? My mount on my bike would have it with letters upside down. Would it affect the shock causing leakes?
no problem
Why do so many bikes come with Fox in the rear? It seems like no manufacturers like Rockshox. Is Fox just that much better at rear shocks?
There was a period of time when Fox had better rear shocks (generally speaking), but RS has been catching up lately. The opposite happened to the forks, when RS presented the Pike.
how much is it?

it's more a xc/trail shock, not intended for enduro. Probably not the best choice for ebikes either

virkelie2 yes, take a shock with piggie back
@@mtbmagazine Okay, thanks!!
Specialized has them shipping on the Levo so they are fine for e bikes.
What's this past called?
where can I find an online user and service manual? None were supplied with my shock.
www.servicearchive.sram.com/service
yes, I already looked there, but those look like different shocks, not the ultimate.
@@paulandrews7573 Can I ask where you purchased the ultimate? I cannot find it anywhere :(

Can I put the new 2wt oil in a 2019 superdeluxe r? (in the ifp system, not in the air can)

It’s a nice explanation but you don’t mention how much travel.
Uhmmm
It's only business becausr there is nothing differents between super deluxe RCT and the ultimate RCT only the name.
Just for sell more...
too much explanation.
