My 50 pence for refitting the air can. Wind the rebound to fully slow counting the amount of clicks then when you compress the shock it stays down! Makes engaging those pesky threads a whole lot easier.
This is a great thing. This way it's much more specific and you can see exactly everything you need to do. Although I was kinda disappointed that he didn't show the removal of the shock from the bike. It's a small thing and probably can see it in other videos but still.. Would be nice if it were really 'start to finish'
This is priceless. Please do more of these 'deep-dives'. Ideas: -- Front Forks -- Mechanical & Hydraulic Brakes -- Front/Rear Derailers -- Dropper Seats -- Cranks
Boom! Air can service done. This and the video Doddy did before gave me total confidence in doing this myself. Piece of cake once you’ve got the tools and the knowledge.
@@chrismorris9396 They recommend a lower leg service after 50 hours and full out internal replacements after 100 hours last time I checked for 2015-2018 forks.
Hey Henry, I'm so grateful that you did this extremely useful video. My air shock also wants to thank you for not being worn down :D I also like your way of presenting and lecturing alot, to satisfy the curiosity of tech nerds like me. And sharing your special tips and tricks with us, so thank you!
YES please do make more of these of overlooked bike service types of videos you can do at home. I really love to see the inner workings of the shocks and bits none the less too. I find it interesting.
Great video guys. More of the same please. It really helps when you are trying a service for the first time having a guide to make sure you aren’t going to damage your bike. More of the same please. How about a bearing service for your rear pivot on a suspension bike. Things to look out for etc.
Love this type of proper servicing Henry made that look simple and easy enough that most people could tackle it. Lower fork service next please then bleeding Sram brakes...
Awesome tutorial! It would be a great idea to do all the periodic maintenance service guides. Forks, Hydraulic brake bleed and pad changes, cable changes, shifter maintenance and so on.
Awesome vid. We need more real time vids like this so we amateurs can see each step clearly and understand the process. Keep up the great work! GMBN Tech is the best!
Excellent video (as always), I really love the "real time" idea, much more helpful for when you do it yourself and because it is such a fully comprehensive video,it also gives you more faith in what you're about to do.👍👍👍
Always good to watch these, usually a tip or two I can pick up despite having done these services for years on my bikes. Sadly neither of my bikes have shocks that can be serviced like this, both are CCDB Airs, no home tinkering on those!
Definitely good style of vid! You guys should do more maybe an in depth full shock service and lower leg form service? Would love to see some better videos on in depth shock servicing!
Just make sure you don't use RS 3wt damping fluid in your air can. Also be sure to check RS's service site for the correct way to do a air can service. This is riddled with small mistakes and potential safety issues.
Cracking video! I like the real-time aspect! Real-time service/repair videos like this are really good ideas! You could do loads like this forks bb’s hubs headsets make it a series! Be nice to see a full service done as well
Excelent Henry! Just in time for me. Followed the instructions and it was just as easy. More of those please! Can you do a full service of fork and shock?
Great video Henry, very thorough, thank you! Please do more of these! I'd especially like to see servicing a freehub, servicing/replacing linkage bearings.
Thank you. Loved this video so much, I'm now going to service my shock whilst playing this video. [Edit] Just services my Manitou Radium Expert. The video was perfect. I struggled getting the air cover off, so went back to removing it with it attached to the bike. Worked a treat with just hands and no strap. Struggled getting back on but that's because I want applying enough pressure when twisting
Great video, thank you, I see my self doing what you are doing, since if I'm not being carefull when doing my mechanic it will cost me money in the long in the run. Keep it up, love your videos.
If your struggling to reseat the Can then slowing down the rebound to minimum helps. A cheap 1 - 3mm syringe is good for adding an accurate quantity of float fluid to the can. I also personally crack the Can on the bike then remove the shock.. much better than putting a hex through the eye IMO.
Hah! I was thinking the same thing. Bob Ross used to lower my blood pressure about 30 points whenever I watched him and Henry did the same thing. Very low key; very detailed. That is not a knock by any means.
Top stuff guys. This is the next job I want to do on my bike so an impeccably timed video and very helpful. Forks, droppers, brakes and wheel truing in the same format please 🤙
The guy can't even do an air can service correctly. You sure wouldn't want him to show you how to fuck up your damper. Go to ridefox.com/help if you want to learn how to properly do it.
I like it. Do more of this. But you did make an error. How did the shock magically appear on your work bench? People also want to know how to properly remove and reinstall it on the bike. That information is more important in some ways as if I cannot confidently get it off and back on the bike, then I can't service it.
Some cans use fox float fluid in both halves not just the bottom half. Also if you depress the air valve while you are putting back on the can you don't have to remove it.
Do we not do anything to the smaller canister? Does anything ever need to be done to that part of the shock? Great video but it would have been nice to see right from taking it off to putting it back on and would be have been great to have some sort of explanation about what to do (or not to do) or when to do whatever should be done with/to the EVOL reservoir.
The Sram butter and dynamic seal grease are different so forks need sram butter, shocks need seal grease, it's because the dynamic seal grease has teflon or ptfe (can't remember which) in it and it wouldn't work with foam rings. The oil weights vary very much by fork/shock type even damper type (moco= 5wt, charger= 3wt) and even then the lower/upper oil type can also be different even on the same forks (yari for example needs damper oil= 5wt, lower oil= 0w30). It is a minefeild but there is a reason to use these things. Even if it does seem like a Sram...umm sorry scam, I like knowing it's the right stuff though as it's cheap compared to new forks altogether, I would stick to whats recomended personally.
What did you think of this video? What do you want to see Henry do some more servicing in real time? Let us know!
Full fork service
My 50 pence for refitting the air can. Wind the rebound to fully slow counting the amount of clicks then when you compress the shock it stays down! Makes engaging those pesky threads a whole lot easier.

Yeah dropper seats please
Nice guide. could you do a real time fork service?
Yea defo
I third this. Love working on my own stuff, despite the "support your LBS" mentality. I just don't have the funds for certified service =]
Yea they should also do a fox shock real time one. Preferably dpx2

Fork service plz. Great work thanks.
Yeah!
No difference. It's almost the same
don't know if it's just me. but besides the real good explanation his calming voice makes this much better to understand anyhow.
You should do a video on the 200 hour service for rockshox forks or forks in general
isn't the 200 hour service an almost complete internals replacement?
@@M3PH11 from what I understand from the service instructions provided by rockshox online it's replacing the seals and orings and bleeding the dampers

4:55 so I noticed I have some super fine scoring on my shaft, it works fine so I don't think it requires filling in yet
Just did mine, A lot easier than i thought it was going to be, Massive thanks to Henry and GMBN for this video

Great video. Key notes: let the air out slowly!!! Did two of these, the first one I let all the air out at once, and it boom when screwing off
Great! Please can you do one on forks?

Rockshox recommend different oil and different grease for the service of my shock (deluxe too), I guess it's marketing ?
