    I remember doing this in elem. school during my p.e. class and I was constantly getting my ankles cracked and bruised and we never got past the basic 8-count rhythm. This is amazing beyond words. 30 years of dance background in ballet, tap and gymnastics and speed skating and I would probably still injure myself! And oh yeah, we called it "tinkling!" Will definitely continue to watch again and again. Inspiring...surreal!!

      I did this dance in Elementary school as well, but I got on beat real quick, after my ankles got clapped a couple of times with those bamboo sticks! It was really fun as long as you can stay on beat.

      Thanks for sharing your experience. I just wanted to make a minor correction. It's Tinikling, not Tinkling...😉

    Awesome they used ALL the steps plus some! This is a very aerobic dance, and my students LOVE practicing with the traditional music plus some hip hop Christian tunes with a very definite 3/4 beat. Way to go!!!

    Im a kid who discovered this when I was in grade 4 and had to do this as a final project in elementary school!!!! I was never a big fan of dancing or anything related to other cultures until I came across tinkling, this is an energetic fun dancing activity that I've always loved to do! We hosted a competition between six schools and I came out on top which made me feel awesome and really encourages me to do more this is why I absolutely love tinkling.... these people are utterly amazing while doing their performance

    At our Filipino Fiestas, we have a mixture of traditional Filipino dance by our balikbayan people and modern dance by our young people. I thought this was awesome! It is my peoples' Tinikling on steroids - and it was done by a church youth ministry! I can see our young people doing this version of Tinikling. When my Parish music teacher teaches music of the Philippines on his Asian segment later this year to his Parish grade school students, I want him to show this video after he shows our traditional Tinikling dance. Mabuhay!

    I ask you, why is "wrong" or "pambabastos"? It's still basically the tinikling, only with a modern twist. It's a good way to encourage young people to know about the dance because as pointed out previously, Filipino youth do not dance this and probably dont even know about it unless maybe through filipino class or p.e. Further more, is there a rule that states that tradition cant be modernized in some way and yet retain it's essence? Because that's what I see has happened here.

      As long as these performers know the meaning and roots of this dance, I don't see a problem in adding a modern twist to it. Whether it's the traditional or modern style, I enjoy watching this dance and a good way to show the beauty of the Filipino culture.

    • @dollyl5596
      @dollyl5596 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We did too back in elementary in the 90’s, in high school we did the singki, similar to tinikling, but suppose to be a muslimnwedding dance in mindanao. A bit more complicated since the princess(bride) uses both fans and the prince(groom) is holding a shield and sword(swings it almost like a baton) as they dance on the bamboo poles.
