That was absolutely amazing! I watched a documentary about this prison & it has a low internal violence rate and high rehabilitation rate. I don’t know why more prisons don’t try it. And it was just grilling awesome!
These are the CPDRC (Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center) inmates from Cebu, Philippines. They perform every year. So proud of them! 👏🏻😊
Just watched their story on SBS and how this came about. Absolutely brilliant. 70% are murderers and rapists who'd had no hope of rehabilitation. The prison was a violent gang riddled world with corrupt guards, plenty of drugs etc. To go from that to this....outstanding.
People should be rehabilitated when possible, not shut away. This gives prison a purpose. I’m sure many of these men had no idea they could dance. Instead of spending every day wasting away, learning this dance and routine gives some sort of meaning to what is otherwise a terrible existence, the life of a prisoner.

I have chills. MJ was wayyyy ahead of his time. This song was true long before it was written but it's never been so blatantly obvious as it is today yet people still fight their neighbors for the powers that be. RIP Michael Jackson
"... still fight their neighbors..." How true that is and so sad that individuals wont sacrifice for the people they live right next to. The problem always starts on your own block.
Every year I’ve binged Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5 on TH-cam. Once I saw them on the Carol Burnett show and she referred to them as brownies. My jaw absolutely dropped, because I had never heard that before, but it sounded incredibly demeaning, especially for oldest ones. MJ was forced to be an adult at six. I think he got a clear picture of human "categories," even internationally. My dad saw the Jackson 5 getting on a plane in Germany. I mean they went everywhere. Idk I think black people have always gotten it but not white people. I had an MJ poster on my wall in high school. It’s the only poster I ever had and oddly I didn’t know he was black. like I never realized it until I saw his family and hearing him talk about his life. Guess I’m saying that back then it often was that people didn’t know, not that they didn’t care.
We need to talk about the incredible benefits this definitely brings the inmates! Dancing is a great way to deal with anger and work through emotions! Amazing. Great therapy! Keep it up!!!
@@jayrmagz8589 I bet they think of it more like cooperating, they aren't coerced into keeping in time, they choose to, and in the end they can see the benefit of people working together and how the sum can be greater than the total of the parts. Plus it keeps them busy, healthy, burns off excess energy, gives them something to look forward to, something to feel proud of. And for a son or daughter, being able to watch something like this, could be a treasure, even if they can't see their dad, they would know he is in there and they could have a reason to replace a little shame or anger with pride.
Oh yeah. Meditation works for prison captives too. Well, what they really need is their freedom, and for police to stop murdering them. Google Philippines EJK.
More importantly succeeding at something like this. Is a great way for them to have a sense of self actualisation. Something ppl that end up in jail often have not had before.

This brings me to tears whenever I watch it. So much talent! Given the right environment, their lives will be so different. Guys, you have a lot to be proud of.
I have never seen this before and it blew me away. I felt like crying at one point. It is tempting to think of max sec prison inmates as scum and impossible to rehabilitate but it took dedication and patience to learn this routine and it must have given them a sense of pride.
The fact that they are good dancers does not make them better people. they committed a crime they must be paying not dancing. I have 6 months without dancing and I work every day and I am a good person. someone is proud of me ?? I could learn a rutine if i had they free time also
@@enelmartodoesfelicidad I totally agree. Dancing does not make them better people, nor does it mean they shouldn't pay for what they did. I did not suggest otherwise. But prison rarely rehabilitates people. It is more likely to lead people to more crime by associating with other criminals and making life hard after release. It can only be hoped that some of those dancers had a sense of pride that helped them to change. In your case. You claim you are a good person but you are in prison. I don't know you so have to believe what you say. if there is no-one who is proud of you, perhaps you can be resolved not to commit crime in future and be proud of yourself. Ultimately, we must all live up to our own standards and expectations, not those of others. I wish you well with the rest of your sentence. I hope it goes quickly, safely and easily and that, after release, you do nothing to take you back inside and that your life goes better than before. If you want someone to communicate with, perhaps a different perspective on things, or just a new voice, feel free to write again. i will answer you. Good luck

Yes.
"... still fight their neighbors..." How true that is and so sad that individuals wont sacrifice for the people they live right next to.
I watch this every 6 months!! It is amazing invigorating, and a show of true talant!! Good Going Guys!!
I visited the phillipines once and this prison. Each inmate was selling ice cream or handmade baskets and such.
We need to talk about the incredible benefits this definitely brings the inmates! Dancing is a great way to deal with anger and work through emotions! Amazing. Great therapy! Keep it up!!!
yeah some of them have a life sentence for murder but still they manage to obey

Its interesting how Michael Jackson's music has been successfully applied to different prisons, in different countries, to create a level of high moral and personal fitness & health.
His music and messages have always been positive; and for some reason he resonates with a broad spectrum of the prison population... and outside of prisons, too.
As an observation, it appears to be a very good sign of how most people share some fundamental values... and positive values, at that.
Yes Michael Jackson's music is related to prison because there's a lot of kid fuckers in jail too.

An interesting fact, which you're obviously not aware of, is that prisoners who commit crimes against children never live very long behind bars. The rest of the inmates don't take too kindly to child molesters. It might have something to do with how many of the inmates were victims of it, themselves. Regardless, you're 100% incorrect.
