You can certainly tell that he and the two guys behind him are pros. I love this video, but I am uncomfortable with the fact that inmates were used...it seems very likely that they were "convinced" to take part by unethical means.......in other words, it seems like they were essentially used as slave labor to make this epic video. I hope I'm wrong.

1. they were sentenced to prison not death and they are still human beings. 2. you dont know what they are in for. obviously the warden and guards felt they earned the privilege of participating in the program 3. privileges and programs help the prison keep control of the prisoners. If they have nothing to work toward earning that's when riots and behavior problems crop up. someone with absolutely nothing to lose has no leverage to hold onto.
Kind of messed up when many of these prisoners have said they did this at threat of violence.
Except that if violence is threatened into doing it imagine the violence for saying something like that. I doubt they would be allowed to speak out about if it were true.

I would love for there to be a follow up with all the individuals who participated in this dance to see what an impact it may have had on their lives. There’s something to be said about an accomplishment like this; the power of camaraderie, teamwork, taking pride in your ability to make a positive contribution, and learning to believe in your goodness. I’d really love to know what their lives are like now.

This should be done in all prisons. To my mind it is a positive function and the inmates are happier and more relaxed in that atmosphere. Great program...
First I was like this is neat. Then as the started the words "They don't care about us" it gave me chills. In most countries prisoners live in poor conditions and do not have their health issues properly addressed.
This is a well made statement on how we treat one another.
A nurse who worked in a man’s prison told us that prison is man’s welfare while having babies is women’s. I am sure that is much too simplistic but she got tired of men committing crimes for health care and to be taken care of. Depending on their particular crimes they didn’t care very much for whom they hurt as well as their own families.
FUN FACT: The three Guys in the first! They were in the Crew about MJ! They heard that the prisoners always dance with MJs Music! Three Days of exercising ... and this was the result... GREAT!!!!

The three foreigners at the front were from the US. The inmates' THRILLER dance video went viral, and MJ's choreographer, the one at the front and center saw the video, and decided to flew to the Philippines with his other 2 dancer friends to shoot a music video in honor of MJ. The regular dance routines that the inmates were doing was instituted by the prison director as a form of therapy and were uploaded on TH-cam. Reports were made that clashes in the correctional slowly went down and have become almost non existent.
That was absolutely amazing! I watched a documentary about this prison & it has a low internal violence rate and high rehabilitation rate. I don’t know why more prisons don’t try it. And it was just grilling awesome!

Wow!! giving the inmates a sense of purpose, cohesion and bonding from working on something very hard to pull off. I was in the Infantry and we used to practice military parades for weeks. The end result is something they can all be proud of with a sense of belonging and to be honest, I call that rehabilitation!!

@@jayrmagz8589 I bet they think of it more like cooperating, they aren't coerced into keeping in time, they choose to, and in the end they can see the benefit of people working together and how the sum can be greater than the total of the parts. Plus it keeps them busy, healthy, burns off excess energy, gives them something to look forward to, something to feel proud of. And for a son or daughter, being able to watch something like this, could be a treasure, even if they can't see their dad, they would know he is in there and they could have a reason to replace a little shame or anger with pride.
Oh yeah. Meditation works for prison captives too. Well, what they really need is their freedom, and for police to stop murdering them. Google Philippines EJK.
More importantly succeeding at something like this. Is a great way for them to have a sense of self actualisation. Something ppl that end up in jail often have not had before.

The original video for "They don't care about us" was filmed in a US prison. They made Michael make it over before they would promote the song. So he filmed another video of this song in Bahia, Brazil at the site of the old slave auctions. MJ was one of the most brilliant socio-political protest song writers, ever!! 🪷🩵
I’m still struggling to accept that he’s gone. He was an exceptional dancer, singer, loving father and very loyal and caring to all his fans. Watching those inmates perform with perfect synchronization proves how much he touched all our lives and he will never, ever be forgotten. I have never seen this before and it blew me away. I felt like crying at one point. It is tempting to think of max sec prison inmates as scum and impossible to rehabilitate but it took dedication and patience to learn this routine and it must have given them a sense of pride.
The fact that they are good dancers does not make them better people. they committed a crime they must be paying not dancing. I have 6 months without dancing and I work every day and I am a good person. someone is proud of me ?? I could learn a rutine if i had they free time also
@@enelmartodoesfelicidad I totally agree. Dancing does not make them better people, nor does it mean they shouldn't pay for what they did. I did not suggest otherwise. But prison rarely rehabilitates people. It is more likely to lead people to more crime by associating with other criminals and making life hard after release. It can only be hoped that some of those dancers had a sense of pride that helped them to change.
In your case. You claim you are a good person but you are in prison. I don't know you so have to believe what you say.
if there is no-one who is proud of you, perhaps you can be resolved not to commit crime in future and be proud of yourself. Ultimately, we must all live up to our own standards and expectations, not those of others.
I wish you well with the rest of your sentence. I hope it goes quickly, safely and easily and that, after release, you do nothing to take you back inside and that your life goes better than before.
