I was lucky enough to work with Ann. She was one of the most gracious, humble and kindest person I have ever worked with. I invited her to come to Duke University, where I was guest directing a muscial, to do a master class> We had 300 people come take the class and she made everyone feel so wonderful and worthy to be there. I saw an interview where Ann said female dancers have a career "up til 35 maybe.. the greats like Gwen Verdon and Chita Rivera go up to 50", well there she is as the Great she was. Incredible.
i am so enamored with all the Fosse dancers. All of them. But madly completely in love with Ann Reinking. She just flows. sometime like a slow spring sometimes like a whitewater rapid.
Ann's performance in Mein Herr brilliantly conveys the intention of the choreographer! Instead of a stylistic interpretation of Fosse, which is difficult in itself, she goes deeper, and for the first time I am moved and shaken by this piece, instead of only pleased by Fosse's obvious mastery of choreography. Brava!
Thanks it's great to see both Bebe Neuwirth and Ann Reinking, both true masters of Bob Fosse's choreography, performing: pure joy. They make it all seem effortless.
I wish whomever shot this would have STOPPED zooming in on Bebe! Let’s see her DANCE (we know what she looks like). That said, so pleased this was posted!

No offense to Anne, who I love, but Liza’s Sally could sing better. Ironically, the character wasn’t really supposed to be that good, but you can’t fault either. I was a teenager when Pippin opened and I first saw Fosse’s choreography. I saw Pippin four times (with the masterful Ben Vereen - wonderful dancer), Jill Clayburgh, and John Rubinstein. I was hooked. Still am.
I may be condemned by Verdon and Rivera devotees, but, to my eye, there never has been--and possibly never will be--a pair of Fosse dancers who better embody the style or complement each other than Reinking and Neuwirth. Ann's grace and fluidity and Bebe's athleticism and precision are breathtaking alone, but, when combined, they are superlative.
Minnelli was virtually a kid when she originally performed the number in the movie, and she played Sally as a neophyte. Reinking plays Sally as a woman with experience.
In FolliesFan clip of Ms. Minnelli rehearsing "Chicago" with Ms. Rivera, Mr. Fosse's head is visible as he evaluates their precision standing in front of the stage. This dented brain is adding his head shadow at the bottom of the monitor in these numbers as well. Seems proper. Peace be with you...Lukerdog

Well, here we go: 1: Bebe Neuwirth "Steam Heat" - Her hat was a little bit too big, and the part with the rolling down with her hat did not work. But: she is 100% professional and knows how to deal with it and : 2. The song was too high for her, with Meg Gillentine one hears the right pitch from the song. But again: Bebe did it wonderfully. 3: Ann Reinking "Cool Hand Luke"- it uses to be a terzet, what happened? only two on the stage ? OK, OK the two on the stage are Bebe and Ann, makes sense :-)))) 4: "There'll Be Some Changes Made" - Nice to see Rachelle Rak there, and who ist the second background performer? 5 - Again an octave lower as original ( watch with Dana Moore in the main rolle). But Bebe did an amazing interpretation from the story. A sad story. BRAVA :-)))) THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting this :-)))))

How did I miss this? I’m a Fosse aficionado! I’m a Northern California and San Francisco bay area that is and I travel to Los Angeles to see Fosse’s during out of town tryouts. Then I went to New York that December inside in previews. I had so many preconceive notion‘s about which should’ve been in the show and how to show should’ve worked that although I cherished it I didn’t love it wholeheartedly. Watching this I get a new angle for example I never really liked Valerie Pettiford in her role as sort of the shows Grande Dame! Reinking here knocks the same number Mein Herr our of the Park. But that Cool Hand Luke! WowZie! I am a choreographer and I have restaged this choreography more than once of course I’m not Fosse trained per se but I’m known for making the audience Fosse converts. Someone who also worked with Fosse but lacked the spark that these 2 have. Of course Anne was a Fosse muse and helped stage this show. So yeh, ultimately a good point!

I have the DVD that shows exactly the performance that I saw on Broadway. It means that Ann Reinking and Bebe Neuwirth also went through some other performaces inside the show?
They were both in it for a while then Bebe left and Ann did some later shows with Ben. Owing to injury, I believe, she didn’t appear in as many numbers by then. She did “Dancin’ Dan” with Ben but it was cut from the DVD owing to clearance issues with the music publishers, but it was in the show. Who sang/did what changed all the time to play to the strengths and genders of the principal performers.
No, neither one of them opened the show in1999. Ann first went on to play opposite Ben Vereen. But for just a month in 2001, Ann and Bebe joined together.

I saw Ann Reinking in "A Chorus Line" at the Pantages in Los Angeles in 1976 or 1977. All I could think through the whole performance was, "Please, Somebody pull her hair out of her face!". There is not one dance teacher that did not constantly emphasize the importance of having one's hair out of one's face during a performance. I am not kidding. Her hair was parted down the middle and was always covering her face. Very distracting. Was she shy? I don't think so! I had seen Donna McKechnie on Broadway.
