NOTE: As of 2024, Turkey has changed the E-Visa requirement for US Citizens. Ordinary passport holders are exempt from the visa requirement for up to 90 days within any 180-day period (Official passport holders are required to have visa to enter Türkiye).

@@dannylimbr No worries, it is written a bit vague... An ordinary Passport is just one that is not a diplomatic or "official" passport... Unless you are traveling on official government business my guess is that you have an "ordinary" passport. 😁

Here is a pro tip: You can always use "merci" to thank people as every person from any demographic and area will understand it. However learning how to say "tesekkürler = thanks" or "tesekkür ederim = thank you" will go a long way.

Merhaba! Easiest way to thank someone in Turkish is to say “sağol” (Ğ is the only silent letter in Turkish, so it sounds like SAH-OL)….It’s short and sweet! Easy to remember. So, you’re wishing someone a good health/wellness while you thank them for whatever the reason you might have to feel thankful. Thank you for the nicest videos! SağolUN (if you’re thanking more than one person, ad UN to the end)

We haven’t done that trip before but pretty sure the Marmaray train starts from that station and can take you right into the city. You can use the IstanbulKart to pay for the Marmaray just like the subway (it is just a bit more expensive). Google maps with transit layer on will be your best friend!

Never accept the banks conversion rate when using an ATM as it is always more expensive. Most of the major sites in Istanbul price their admission in Euros and in many tourist resorts many things will also be priced in Euros alongside lira.

Jess and Myles, we are planning our first trip to Istanbul for May 2024. Your videos have been very helpful. We are us very excited about this trip and now feel we have a good idea of how to make the most of our time there.
Do you have a video on how to get from the airport, IST, to our hotel? Can transfers be prearranged with the hotel so someone picks us up?
I have downloaded it but have not gone thru your Istanbul travel guide, yet.

You forgot to warn about dishonest traders (let's be honest, there are a lot of them!). It's amazing how they almost always try to deceive you about prices in establishments and in taxis. They say a price beforehand, and after you are going to pay, they claim another much higher price. Disgusting cheating!

Even a baseball cap, not wearing a baseball cap in majid/mosques are really more practical as you can’t bow with a visor in your face 😁. Hats are completely fine as long as there are no disrespectful images or words but that would go for any article of clothing. If someone feels like they’re being more respectful by removing it that’s fine but many people wear even baseball caps turned around while praying it’s more so about wearing something dignifying and respectful but most things are fine

Hello Jess and Myles, we just discovered you in the last couple of weeks. We are coming to Turkey next week for a one month stay. We will be in Istanbul for one week and then on to the Turquoise Coast; finishing up in Cappadocia. . We have purchased your Comprehensive Turkey Guide and it has been quite instrumental in planning our next month. We retired a few months ago and we are on an 18 month trip through Europe (and the Asian side of Turkey), we have been in Sibiu Romania for the month of August. Oh, thanks for the heads up on the visa, we secured ours this morning. also, I think we might do the food tour you recommend. Keep the videos coming, we have watched a few on food and the transportation system. Any other recommendations on which ones we should watch?

    • @WaypointofView

Oh yayyy, this all makes us so happy to hear.. we are super glad you guys found us! And too funny about Sibiu, such a small world. It sounds like we just missed each other. ☺️
As far as Turkey goes.. it seems like you guys have a great trip planned! We have 3 videos on Cappadocia you might find helpful and also we just posted a video on the Southern coast about a month ago. As far as Istanbul goes, since you have a week here you should definitely check out Top 7 Things to do Outside of the Old City. You guys have a good amount of time to spread things out and also venture further than the historic center! Even if you already have your accommodations booked, our Top Neighborhoods video gives a great general overview/ layout of the city that might be helpful. Anyway we hope you guys have a great trip! Let us know if you have any other questions. 🤗
