‎ Cory's mini musk turtles are getting a new home! Cory explains his plans for the tank, the substrate, their diet, and why there are no plants in the tank. After master breeder Dean helped to install a lay box and floating dock, the turtles immediately started laying eggs, so hopefully we'll see new babies in 3 months!

I remember my uncle used to have turtles and the way he collected the eggs so they weren't disturbed was to simply use a spoon and scoop the egg and the sand directly below it.

I love the BBA on their shells. I know that its not exactly a popular opinion, but I think it looks really neat and I've had good luck with it staying in a small clump and not taking over in a few tanks -albiet they were heavily planted and balanced aquariums. I hope to see the hobby move away from algae-phobia in the future. Thankfully, in part thanks to the coop and other ecosystem centric creators, it's already moving in that direction.

I too have red cherry shrimp with my musk turtle. It is so funny to watch her try to catch them. By the time she strikes, the shrimp are long gone. I also have corydoras, ancistrus and zebra danios with her in the tank. In the past 3 years that I had this setup, I think she ate 1 fish. An ancistrus, but I'm pretty shure the fish was sick because it looked bloated and was swimming funny. There were no other casulties. She does not care about the fish at all. Oh, and she will try to eat the cory eggs off of the glass, but she refuses to eat the ancistrus eggs. Yes I tried to feed the eggs to her, because the ancistrus are going crazy in that tank.

I used to work at a greenhouse that had a large compost pile close to a pond that contained some snapping turtles, the turtles would leave the pond to lay eggs in the compost pile which provided heat to hatch the eggs, something how the turtles were able to figure that out

    • @Aqua_Gino

In nature they live alone, so they don't really need friends. :-) As you can see in the video, it is possible to keep them in a group, but it requires a big tank and an experienced owner because these guys can be aggressive. For a typical setup, having just one is usually the safest bet.
