I'm dealing with this issue now and it's making my head spin. I just changed my water pump a cylinder am sensor. And you said it spot on because that's what I'm dealing with now I got hot with a 3k bill 😡 next I guess I gotta change the fuel pump

I have the same problem and I take it to Fields BMW South Orlando worst experience ever Even what wasn't broken on my car they tried to replace and messed up situation worse I go with a malfunction brake light and all of my backlight was out when I take it there they explain it to me that I need to replace all LED lights never had that problem before I take it to them so they try to make you spend more than you really need to get checked out before you take it to any one of those dealers they will cost you more they like to take advantage. Of ignorance people they take advantage if they know you don't understand nothing that cost you more and then they feel like robbing someone to feed their kids is okay .

I just bought my 2014 BMW 328i from a friend and it was fine for 5 months then I was sitting in my car then it would shake and turn off. I was afraid and spent a lot of money thinking it was the AC because it was in when it happened and it went away when I turned off the AC. I changed the whole AC compressor (wasted a bunch of money) and now I researched it and It might be the spark plugs and I’m glad you confirmed that that might be the problem. Thank you once again!!
@@vonsauto they do, BMW's V8 has poor valve steam seals that harden with time, loosen, and let oil pass through, increasing oil consumption and nasty oily exhaust smoke.
760Li won't necessarily have the same mechanical issues as the N63 engine used in the 750 and etc. The N74 motor in my experience was more reliable than the N63.
@@invincibearofficial that's correct with the BMW N62 and N63. A method to slow down the process of valve stem seal degradation is to change oil + filter every 8000 - 10000 KM and use high quality oil as well as fuel (for fuel injectors).
Hi Guys, I want to share my experience. I had Drivetrain error on my f07 (BMW 530dxd) 2013 couple of times and the message would disappear after 30 or less seconds. The message appeared for example on the traffic read light (or when just stopping the car). I have OBD2 reader but nothing was logged there. Took my car to the BMW dealer where they could do a proper test. The found that EGR value was not mechanically opened and closed properly. I replaced it and now is fine so far. P.S: I live in Finland and I trust these guys. They do not “try to steal or cheat” and yes, I do not want to remove EGR or DPF or “Addblue” stuff.
Wow.... That is fascinating. The tech that recently repaired my brother's 2017 320 said pretty much the same thing. He only changed the plugs and the car works just as new again. It is hard to find honest techs.
The drivetrain malfunction mostly occurs when rail pressure sensors are unplugged. Just check around the engine for any unplugged “tubes” or sensors. It fixes the problem all the time.

Other than spark plugs, coils, and injectors, another big thing that can lead to "drivetrain malfunction", multiple misfires, etc, is the failed turbocharger (the lacking of boost normally at 2.5 bar).
I had this problem few months back.. and guess what it was?… no not the spark plugs, not even the lil oil that was on one of the spark plugs, bmw couldn’t even figure it out. They replaced my vanos solenoids.. still wasn’t it. Yall ready for this?? The fix was a $50 Crankcase Vent Valve… luckily when I was putting a temporary hose on the cracked ccv, the new one came in the mail. Put the new one on and erased all faults, car running fine ever since, no more drivetrain malfunction. So moral of the story, the valves in your ccv can get stuck, disrupting the flow in these very sensitive n63 engines..

I just purchased a 2013 750LIX drive from my ex girlfriend's mother and I already having misfire issues shoes head to add oil to the vehicle And continually charge the battery . I will watch your video on how to replace the spark plugs and start there hopefully they didn't run this engine into the ground and call cylinder wall damage
I have a 2013 528xi at 105k miles. Got this message as soon as I got on the highway, got this drivetrain code and the car shut down. It will not crank at all. I had the battery replaced because a week before I was getting the battery drain code. New battery and still the car will not crank. So frustrating when this is the only vehicle you have to get to working and you can’t even get it to turn on.

I have a 2013 Bmw 535i M sports; However, this morning while I was driving my vehicle and that identical message displayed on my car. While I was in the light the vehicle didn’t want it to go but after a few seconds the car returned back to normal once the message came off. I noticed this problem started to happen after I installed a race chip, burger tuning BMS air intake, and aluminum charger pipe. I’m always keep the maintenance of my car on point so I am a bit worried. I guess I put new spark plugs as you recommend and hopefully this fix my problem. Thank you.
I had same warning - I had spark plugs done , then injectors $3000+ , PCV hoses , throttle body , map sensor & now they are saying there is tiny pin holes in the intake manifold left side. BMW claiming it’s due to racing chip - install modification.but it seems we are all Having the same issues . With Malfunction & limp mode issues .

Thanks a lot, great video. My X3 is having this issue, but the drive terrain warning comes only when I come to a stop and the auto start/stops the car and starts again, after this the warning goes off. If I turn auto start off it does not come. Can’t understand what the issue is.
Just changed out the plugs in my 2016 x5 as well as changed out the oil filter housing seals, I have this come up now. It ran fine before I changed the plugs. There was one coil connector not in all the way and it ran rough so i plugged it in. now this, I miss the old cars more than ever.Should have got new coils to?

Its has been running lean since i bought a couple months ago( also it has the dreaded alternator bracket leak that i didnt no about wen i got it) i just changed sparks to NGK91874 Because burger (jb4) motorsports recomended. I got drivetrain malfuction, i pulled sparks & they had black soot all over so i changed again(@$120 4 8plugs) twice & put new ign.coils in too. Im getting same codes(misfire in 1&3 cylinders) + drivetrain message???? Cant figure out can u help????
My BMW is having this issue. Took the car to have all brakes changed. Paid like $700. Drive train malfunction used to pop up here and there but now my car stalled. Monday I have a really good mechanic take a look at it. I’m just hoping it’s not a major thing. 😓

@@Ukacip when that happens it’s usually your battery isn’t charging your alternator properly you could have faulty alternator or faulty battery replace and program new battery and should solve the problem happened to my f10
This notice keeps popping up on my mini after it was in the BMW garage for a recall on the DDE (or something). A free update. My car is fully serviced and maintained and had been ok until then. I have even had a fuel leak after the update. When I queried what the garage had done to my car the garage said they had just plugged it into the computer! Im not convinced!
I got a Drivetrain malfunction message for my 2011 535i, So you suggest having spark plugs replaced first and see if that works. And the coils and ignition if that does not fix the problem? Like you said in the video, my independent shop is going to most likely suggest the job that pays them the most.
I just got my car serviced and I got my spark plug changed. There’s a funny noise coming from the glove compartment. The car won’t start only when I jump start it and only for a few minutes. It’s also the Tyre pressure system isn’t malfunctioned and driver stablization is not working
Have had this problem on going. We change out coils and fuel filter and car drives good for couple hundred miles. Then fails again. Now replacing the injectors. We will see how that goes.
Haven’t changed the spark plugs on it since I bought it at 40,000 miles and it now has 150,000 miles. Is that the reason I get the drive tran malfunction it won’t take off now and check engine light is now on.
Hi ! I got a transmission malfunction on bmw 535i 2011, I was speeding and it went to limp mode with that transmission light. I recently changed the downpipe, and I suspect faulty injectors because hard start, but it wasn’t for engine it was for transmission, my exhaust sounds ugly now, doesn’t sound nice anymore that the downpipe added. Also I turned the car off and the light went away, but I haven’t sped up ever since. I’m scared my transmission is going bad 😕

I have a 2016 528i. I experienced this problem yesterday. I pulled out merging into traffic when the message popped up. After stopping and trying to restart the car shook and stalled. I got it home let it sit overnight and after doing research i cleaned the MAF, did a system restart and poof the engine started and ran fine but with the CE light on. Autozone pulled the codes for High pressure fuel pump , lean fuel, misfire #2 and #4. Weird because the car is running smoothly. Cleared the codes and 100 miles later no check engine lights or drivetrain warnings. I did get a new valve cover kit installed ,new plugs and air filter. I did not replace the coils. Did it just need the reboot ? deciding what to do next.

I have a 2016 328i GT (it’s SULEV of that matters) and I got a drivetrain malfunction warning and it stopped and wouldn’t come out of park in the middle of a busy intersection of St Petersburg. It took 2 hours to get a tow truck and I got finally it home and the code is P17E3. Thank you so much for your videos! I just watched 2 of them. Would you still recommend starting with spark plus and ignition coils for that fault code? Transmission fluid? Or in your opinion does it mean my transmission is ruined? Driving down the highway, never had check engine light. All the sudden when I slowed down with traffic, car started shaking and got the drivetrain message and a flashing check engine light. Hi, Thanks for this great video which motivated me to do almost everything one by one. So, my 2012 BMW 328i with 204,000 km on it is showing drive train malfunction signal, I started with BM deal for complete engine flush and oil change. This helped to reduce the engine vibration. Then I replace all four plugs and ignition coil with OEM but by myself (thanks to utube). Noticed significant improvement in the power but…engine vibration is still there and worst thing, the drive train light is still on. Any suggestions on what to do the next? I’m in Toronto, Canada.
@@DiegoRodriguez-rx6vs Ended up replacing the timing chain which had some chip-off plastic pieces, yes, this BM has plastic parts with the metal chain. All other things like changing plugs, ignition coils, and flushing engine oils twice only added the cost with some benefits but were not the main cause. Go to BM, pay to have it inspected, be there to see the issue or ask for a video, and find a good BM workshop for the fix. Doing this in the first place could have saved me 1500-2000 CAD.
I was recently driving my 09' 750 li when an error came onto the screen saying "transmission malfunction" then "drivetrain malfunction". I was able to make it home (about 2 miles), although the car wouldnt change gears while driving, but when i pulled in the driveway it wouldnt go into park, reverse, neutral, nothing. It just stayed blinking on D on the gear shift. Any advice or suggestions u may have would be greatly appreciated.
I had a similar issue with my 750il. When hot and trying to shift into D or R from Park, it would not go into gear and shift back to P. Turns out the mechatronics bridge adapter was cracked. $20 part.
I used to have this problem in my F02, turning the engine off and lock the car with remote, wait 5 minutes the problem is solved, wait until it happens again and do the same procedure! still not sure why! i think it was low system voltage
Same happened to mine, but only twice and for a brief moment. But I still feel the loss in power and feel it struggles to switch gears sometime. Even if the drive train notice doesn't come. Can I come to you, are you located in London?
Would the light come on if the car is brand new and you accelerate kinda fast? This happened back in 2018 it was a 2018 7series. Just wanted to get the lights for the tpms to come off so went for a short drive. Kinda gave it gas and tried seeing how much ⚽️⚾️🥎🏀🏀s it had. It pulled nice but it got maybe 2car lengths before I lost power lights came on for drive train and white smoke started coming out of exhausted. Did the engine Crack or something? Idk but I sure was disappointed how bad those cars are made. I would rather drive a Toyota anyway over a bmw

Thanks for the comments. My 760li v12 twin turbo is running like a champ now. I just had to update my injectors to the improved injectors.

While I was in the light the vehicle didn’t want it to go but after a few seconds the car returned back to normal once the message came off. I noticed this problem started to happen after I installed a race chip, burger tuning BMS air intake, and aluminum charger pipe. I’m always keep the maintenance of my car on point so I am a bit worried. I guess I put new spark plugs as you recommend and hopefully this fix my problem. Thank you.

I had same warning - I had spark plugs done , then injectors $3000+ , PCV hoses , throttle body , map sensor & now they are saying there is tiny pin holes in the intake manifold left side.
BMW claiming it’s due to racing chip - install modification.but it seems we are all Having the same issues . With Malfunction & limp mode issues .

Thanks a lot, great video. My X3 is having this issue, but the drive terrain warning comes only when I come to a stop and the auto start/stops the car and starts again, after this the warning goes off. If I turn auto start off it does not come. Can’t understand what the issue is.

Just changed out the plugs in my 2016 x5 as well as changed out the oil filter housing seals, I have this come up now. It ran fine before I changed the plugs. There was one coil connector not in all the way and it ran rough so i plugged it in. now this, I miss the old cars more than ever.Should have got new coils to?
Hey, my wife’s 2013 bmw 328i xdrive just had that massage, the car turn on for about 3 times but it wouldn’t go more than 1/4 mile and turn off again. We got the car to our house but know the car won’t even turn on, like it wouldn’t not crank at all. What can I do ?

Thank you for the very detailed explanation. I actually had this problem three times. Can this message comes up if the battery is not good? The car stays sometimes two or three weeks in the garage... since I permanently charge the battery. I did not get the message again.

Its has been running lean since i bought a couple months ago( also it has the dreaded alternator bracket leak that i didnt no about wen i got it) i just changed sparks to NGK91874 Because burger (jb4) motorsports recomended. I got drivetrain malfuction, i pulled sparks & they had black soot all over so i changed again(@$120 4 8plugs) twice & put new ign.coils in too. Im getting same codes(misfire in 1&3 cylinders) + drivetrain message???? Cant figure out can u help????

My BMW is having this issue. Took the car to have all brakes changed. Paid like $700. Drive train malfunction used to pop up here and there but now my car stalled. Monday I have a really good mechanic take a look at it. I’m just hoping it’s not a major thing. 😓
Change the vanos solenoid and you should be good, That’s what worked for me

@@Ukacip when that happens it’s usually your battery isn’t charging your alternator properly you could have faulty alternator or faulty battery replace and program new battery and should solve the problem happened to my f10

This notice keeps popping up on my mini after it was in the BMW garage for a recall on the DDE (or something). A free update. My car is fully serviced and maintained and had been ok until then. I have even had a fuel leak after the update. When I queried what the garage had done to my car the garage said they had just plugged it into the computer! Im not convinced!
I got a Drivetrain malfunction message for my 2011 535i, So you suggest having spark plugs replaced first and see if that works. And the coils and ignition if that does not fix the problem? Like you said in the video, my independent shop is going to most likely suggest the job that pays them the most.
It is better to use the scanner to check the fault code of this problem to see the actual reason why the drivetrain malfunction is active
I just got my car serviced and I got my spark plug changed. There’s a funny noise coming from the glove compartment. The car won’t start only when I jump start it and only for a few minutes. It’s also the Tyre pressure system isn’t malfunctioned and driver stablization is not working
Have had this problem on going. We change out coils and fuel filter and car drives good for couple hundred miles. Then fails again. Now replacing the injectors. We will see how that goes.
Haven’t changed the spark plugs on it since I bought it at 40,000 miles and it now has 150,000 miles. Is that the reason I get the drive tran malfunction it won’t take off now and check engine light is now on.
Mine too. Drivetrain malfunction is on and it won't go to park and it won't move.

Hi ! I got a transmission malfunction on bmw 535i 2011, I was speeding and it went to limp mode with that transmission light. I recently changed the downpipe, and I suspect faulty injectors because hard start, but it wasn’t for engine it was for transmission, my exhaust sounds ugly now, doesn’t sound nice anymore that the downpipe added. Also I turned the car off and the light went away, but I haven’t sped up ever since. I’m scared my transmission is going bad 😕

Had similar issue with my 2010 750Msport. Quick acceleration and the drive train light came on. Turn off engine and it went away. Any update on what the root cause is?

I have a 2016 528i. I experienced this problem yesterday. I pulled out merging into traffic when the message popped up. After stopping and trying to restart the car shook and stalled. I got it home let it sit overnight and after doing research i cleaned the MAF, did a system restart and poof the engine started and ran fine but with the CE light on. Autozone pulled the codes for High pressure fuel pump , lean fuel, misfire #2 and #4. Weird because the car is running smoothly. Cleared the codes and 100 miles later no check engine lights or drivetrain warnings. I did get a new valve cover kit installed ,new plugs and air filter. I did not replace the coils. Did it just need the reboot ? deciding what to do next.

Ok I have a 528i so can you tell me what’s going on when I drive it be jerking a little bit and then when I turn off the car once I get to my destination I’ll turn the car on it will shake while I’m trying to start it but won’t start so I gotta wait a while and then it will start ?

I have a 2016 328i GT (it’s SULEV of that matters) and I got a drivetrain malfunction warning and it stopped and wouldn’t come out of park in the middle of a busy intersection of St Petersburg. It took 2 hours to get a tow truck and I got finally it home and the code is P17E3. Thank you so much for your videos! I just watched 2 of them. Would you still recommend starting with spark plus and ignition coils for that fault code? Transmission fluid? Or in your opinion does it mean my transmission is ruined? I expected to get some misfire codes but I only got P17E3. Thank you for any suggestions!

Driving down the highway, never had check engine light. All the sudden when I slowed down with traffic, car started shaking and got the drivetrain message and a flashing check engine light. Car didn’t want to change gears, it would hard idle shaking bad and turn off when I have it some gas until I got lucky enough to slowly get home. You think spark plugs will fix? You think being late on oil change can do this? 2015 bmw 428i

Thanks for this great video which motivated me to do almost everything one by one.
So, my 2012 BMW 328i with 204,000 km on it is showing drive train malfunction signal, I started with BM deal for complete engine flush and oil change. This helped to reduce the engine vibration. Then I replace all four plugs and ignition coil with OEM but by myself (thanks to utube). Noticed significant improvement in the power but…engine vibration is still there and worst thing, the drive train light is still on.
Any suggestions on what to do the next?

@@DiegoRodriguez-rx6vs Ended up replacing the timing chain which had some chip-off plastic pieces, yes, this BM has plastic parts with the metal chain. All other things like changing plugs, ignition coils, and flushing engine oils twice only added the cost with some benefits but were not the main cause. Go to BM, pay to have it inspected, be there to see the issue or ask for a video, and find a good BM workshop for the fix. Doing this in the first place could have saved me 1500-2000 CAD.
I was recently driving my 09' 750 li when an error came onto the screen saying "transmission malfunction" then "drivetrain malfunction". I was able to make it home (about 2 miles), although the car wouldnt change gears while driving, but when i pulled in the driveway it wouldnt go into park, reverse, neutral, nothing. It just stayed blinking on D on the gear shift. Any advice or suggestions u may have would be greatly appreciated.

I had a similar issue with my 750il. When hot and trying to shift into D or R from Park, it would not go into gear and shift back to P. Turns out the mechatronics bridge adapter was cracked. $20 part.

I used to have this problem in my F02, turning the engine off and lock the car with remote, wait 5 minutes the problem is solved, wait until it happens again and do the same procedure! still not sure why! i think it was low system voltage
Same happened to mine, but only twice and for a brief moment. But I still feel the loss in power and feel it struggles to switch gears sometime. Even if the drive train notice doesn't come. Can I come to you, are you located in London?

This happened back in 2018 it was a 2018 7series. Just wanted to get the lights for the tpms to come off so went for a short drive.
Kinda gave it gas and tried seeing how much ⚽️⚾️🥎🏀🏀s it had.
It pulled nice but it got maybe 2car lengths before I lost power lights came on for drive train and white smoke started coming out of exhausted. Did the engine Crack or something?
Idk but I sure was disappointed how bad those cars are made. I would rather drive a Toyota anyway over a bmw
