      @@Stonyboot exactly go outside. I couldn't do a truck camper as I have dogs who are getting older so too many steps but the Nucamp trailer is nice as well I like the clean lines, I've seen the teardrops at RV shows and the quality of the Nucamp product is unbeatable they are solid, well made rv's; not like the others where they feel like compresses card board and they will shake apart at any moment , you pay more but you get a product that's going to last way longer.

    Excellent truck camper the best I seen so far. I use to have a truck camper my friend gave me it fir my f 250 perfectly! I used it to camp down in the lime stone quarry ( Material services) I worked at on Friday nights instead of traveling 25 miles home. I should have kept that truck trailer but I gave it away to my old girlfriend Kim Hawken . Truck campers are so cool you can take them almost anywhere!

At on 450 not huge diff but if going small say 350 might b Ram smarter, esp pull towing, 5th wheel not a diff towing. Watching those RV highway crashes huge swings will hve most ppl going big safe semi if poss please.

    Thank you for the intro to Scott & Sacha (stonyboot) who I follow now. As I continue to research RV options, the used Dually Truck + Truck Camper combo appear to offer affordable off-road boon-dock mobility, flexibility (decouple at site), and serviceability. Love the star-gazing moonroof!! A portable solar/Lithium/inverter option is needed to deliver power for HVAC, fridge, Keurig, microwave w/o having to run a noisy generator. Think retractable solar awnings. While I’m dreaming, how about slide-outs on a trick camper that don’t leak or break? Many thanks to the RV-lifers inspiring us on how to get started and what to expect (good, bad & ugly). It’s about thorough preparation + courage to just do it.

    • @storychasing
      @storychasing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jeffo 😀 That's so cool you followed them. There's so many options out there and I wish I had known more about truck campers when I first started. I might not have been going on my 3rd rig....lol. I'm so glad you enjoyed the video and rig tour. I hear you on the slides. I heard a rumor that NuCamp might have something out with slides so hopefully it's really good quality.

    • @Stonyboot
      @Stonyboot 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We love having a Dually and think its the way to go! The skylight is really nice and we use it almost every day. Sometimes we open it up and stand through it to get a better view of the night sky! Once we have the 600ah of lithium setup and working, it should allow us to run the AC for quite a while when needed. Same for the 600 watts of solar, that should keep us charged most of the time and the ability to recharge from the alternators will give us tons of power to play with! We will make some videos about all of that when the parts show up :) I't's going to be a busy summer!

    • @michaelconchscooter8940
      @michaelconchscooter8940 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Stonyboot I have 600 lithium amps 400 watts solar and twin alternators in our Promaster. Without using a/c (13,500 BTU) we never even think about power consumption and we don’t use propane. To run a/c all night in the extreme heat of South Florida in summer we cool the van with engine a/c and set the a/c just above the temperature so it cycles but doesn’t run al the time. It works for seven hours and leaves us about flat empty. It can be done. Our van is well insulated.

    I owned a Roadtrek and sold it in January. I bought the same truck as Scott and Sasha. My new camper is on order. Truck campers have: higher ground clearance, quieter ride, better ride, more power, can go more places, can hold more weight, more space for solar panels, and easier to maintain vs a camper van where everything is integrated/crammed into a van. I regret not going the truck camper route 7 years ago but I'm doing it now.

    • @storychasing

      @@storychasing Another plus to the TC. All of the components: propane tank, AC unit, extra batteries, tanks (water, black, gray) and all the associated hoses, pex pipe etc., are ABOVE the chassis. All these components take a beating on the class B's, C's and A's. I did not go off-road but the underside of my van wasn't pretty due to road debris and rocks. Also the interior of my new truck is nicer than a Lexus.

    Very nice upgrades. We have a '18 920. You guys gave us some great ideas. You can get on the cirrus Facebook page to learn more too, if you haven't already. The quality of the Cirrus is top notch. After looking at all the others we decided on the 920 because of the stylish design, Alde heating/water heater, Froli bed system, Amish built cabinets, large windows. Ours is fully loaded with generator and solor. I bought a older Gmc Duramax dually 4x4 that is plenty big enough. Rather than buy a new truck and spend 40k or more, we wanted to try truck camping with a more affordable option first. Eventually we will get a newer truck, but it has been a great buy 1 owner truck.

    Great tour! Thank you all! I’m still up in the air about a truck camper. Like the clearance a truck has over a van/rv. Plus safety in a rv you don’t have to leave the rv to get in your camper . Not crazy about stairs into it. Skylight rocks. Nice couple.

      Thank you so much! And yeah, it’s definitely much taller than most vans, but we have also have more living space and a queen sized bed. And you’re right, stairs can be a problem, but we actually learned how to get in and out without using them (we use one of the jacks as a step😅). What do you have for an RV?

    Hi Story Chasing - Crazy I stumbled on this video just as I am looking at a few used Aktiv 2.0 loft editions. I drive a 1/2 ton truck. A new Ford F150 Ecoboost supercab. The 3/4 doors on the back and rear seat that carries 3 more or a great area for storing things inside. Regular gas and 22 miles per gallon. I'm sure you know that Cirrus is coming out with a Cirrus 620 light weight that can be put on a smaller full size truck like the F150 or the Toyota Tundra. After researching the Hymer and how they are plagued with electrical issues etc... and no warranty after the company when out of business, I am all in on the Cirrus truck camper. Thanks for the video.

    Very nice camper. I still love vans though. Probably because I don't want to have to get out to get in the camper, especially if I needed to get out of an area right away. I also like just pulling in with little to do to set up. But it would be my second choice if I got past those two issues.

    • @Stonyboot
      @Stonyboot 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We were on the fence for a long time. It is a really hard decision. We both would like the ability to go from the driver seat to the living area without going outside, but the tradeoffs pushed us to a truck camper. As for setup, we don't do any. We pull in, find a flat spot and put it in park. Then we climb in to the camper. 95% of the time when we are on the move, we don't use the stairs or anything else. All of that stuff is just for longer term stays. I will say, when the wind gets over 40 mph, we will use the camper jacks to stabilize the rig. When we head to other countries, we might go with a van, especially in Europe and South America.

    • @storychasing

Runs my rooftop ac pretty much indefinitely in the Florida sun. Microwave, no problem. I watched hundreds of TH-cam videos to gather all the knowledge I could. Very interesting! My great aunt and uncle had one when I was young, and my aunt is so tiny she could crawl through that little window between the truck and camper. I think they are all fixed shut these days. It does seem like a good hybrid of being small and having vehicle / camper separation. At 20-30 minutes (with two people) definitely for a set-up camp and stay situation.

    • @storychasing
      @storychasing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tara Charney 😀 yes I believe this is fixed shut. Dang I forgot to ask. @Stonyboot can you respond? Yes, I'm looking for a set-up and stay and then to be able to pull the truck off the camper or I guess it's really camper off the truck...lol. I love the interior!

    • @Stonyboot

      Tara Charney we do have a sliding window, which is great for ventilation, but we can’t fit through it. After 8 months, we don’t think it would be worth the hassle of changing it to a fully opening style of window. As for taking the camper off, if it wasn’t for the bike rack, it would be a 10 minute process. 3-4 minutes of that is just waiting for the jack legs to extend :)

The heat is magical (love that Alde System) and our A/C is plenty even at 110f. Good luck in your search. If you have questions about our TC life style, please let us know. We love to "talk shop" 😊

      @@Stonyboot That is a great reply, I just subbed. Thank you for that input..... I will likely meet Taylor one day, I am headed his way when I get my house on the market --- I am most likely headed into a van conversion, it makes the most sense for me for the next year to 2 years but man, there is a side of me that wants a TC so badly LOL.
      I mailed Taylor a letter to encourage him around a year ago, I have another one drafted and ready to print, he took that breakup hard, you could really see it. You are so right about him!!!

      Barry Dutton Sells Homes that’s awesome that you tried to reach out to him. He is such a genuinely nice guy!!! I hope he bounces back and keeps doing what he loves. As for vans, when we head to Europe and South America, we may buy/rent/build a van to keep things less complicated and blend in better. We were really torn between a Class-b and a TC. Good luck with your search and thanks for the sub. Please let us know if you have any ideas for a video.

    Love your channel. I have lived in a truck camper for two years. This is good choice for off road. I was in Alaska last year about the same time as you. About this circus camper. You will notice the owners focused on the cosmetics. Lund or Arctic fox are better choices.. Get a slide out. Get a Ford truck. If you are going to take on a really large camper a F-450 is the better choice. FWD is very desirable. I wish I had more contact time to give you the benefit of the learning curve I went on when buying my camper. Main tip; Start by evaluating the base construction ie. frame then cosmetics. Arctic Fox, my camper, has factory tours plus there are many you tube video about Arctic Fox. I'm watching your live feed, you look very pretty today.

      Robert Leonard Thanks so much for your feedback and the kind compliment. I do value all of the tips and recommendations. I'm looking at the Host Mammoth and the Ford F450 dually. I love aesthetics of the NuCamp though. How did your truck camper do in Alaska?

    • @robertleonard1551
      @robertleonard1551 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@storychasing Excellent. I drove off a 10 ft embankment, not watching closely I drove the Dalton and Denali Highway in the rain. FWD did the job. My diesel F-350 DRW did excellent. Had to get an oil change in Fairbanks good Ford service. RAM truck are the worst. Watch hot-shot truckers all ford. Fiat has been trying to sell the RAM to the Chinese for three years. The warranty repairs are the money pit for Fiat. Met two couples from Florida at the Denali campground. They travel together in their campers. The Host I saw was very impressive. Now AF are almost a cult. In campgrounds I have other Fox owners come over and swap tips, they wave at you at you pass on the highway. Get a camper with a recliner chair the table and two bench seats get old. I was in Alaska for three months. Want to go back. I'm a retired medical professional and I like your didactic presentations about yourself. You really put yourself out there. Considerations : Don't have the space here but consider camper weight truck rear axle capacity., fuel(11 mpg) also the scariest for me is wind These campers are sails. Mountain passes and Santa Ana winds are stressful driving. Your trip to Mexico was very worrisome. There has been incredible violence in the last 48 hrs. I'll stop I promise. lastly I bought my truck from Enterprise. It was six months old and had been a fleet lease I got the remaining Ford warranty and an extended no charge. Ok I'll stop but the best feature is an exhaust brake. Going down a steep grade exhaust brake gives you control and saves your truck brakes. Oh, and the new Fords have an improved engine, more horsepower and the trans is 10 speeds. Very smooth very powerful. Yes service intervals are pricey. Remember: Go Big Look Cool!

      Robert Leonard we love Arctic Fox, they make great products, but there are always trade offs! We wanted to make sure that we have plenty of storage and that we truly like our “house” and Cirrus worked the best for us. We’re also planning on going to Alaska, where did you go when you were there?

    • @paulne1514
      @paulne1514 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As did Robert Leonard, I also lived a truck camper for 2 years. I have a mid 70’s Chevy deluxe camper special package and a 1974 Sunline 9 & 1/2 ft camper. ( total cost- $5,000) Because I spent much of my time off the road, I got rid of the 3 way frig, and put in a norcold 2 way boat frig. Now I do t have to be level for it to work

    • @paulne1514
      @paulne1514 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, new to computers. I added an evaporator to drop the inside temp, which also runs on 12 volts. I also pull a boat, without an extension hitch. The same one as in the movie Grown-ups. (1974 Bayliner Jamaica) . My camper sleeps a family of 6 . My bathroom is bigger than what you have. We have been looking for a new or newer one, but cannot find one that is equal to what we have, although your’s is the closest. With a standard cab, my over hang was about 2 feet. Hard to trip a traffic light and see it when it turns green. Unless they have one on the opposite side of the street. Hard to see branches when off road. Am 6’2” and can stand inside except for the shower. I need the front overhang to be the same as mine, but we can’t find one. Was enjoying the comments until it came to the price! Looks like I will have both my truck and camper restored.

    I know I am quad 4500(5500 rides rough) tilt bed 2 box each side for sure in bed camper system bc only way u can still safely & simply tow reasonable length. But not a family strong option like 5th wheel home on wheels, or better garage/home on wheels(mid bunk great also) 3rd best u shaped fromt high kitchen. If 5th wheeling best tow option is single axle short length volvo & can hve longer semi cabs if living in or ppl no extra car/van then Kodiac quad. Something about going 40ft ++ class A ceases to b about "camping" more retiring mobile.

    Impressive camper. Its quite deceiving from the outside but they're pretty awesome. I've never heard of VIP Kid. Great idea. Are those scratches all over the truck or dirt? I couldn't help but cringle thinking those are scratches.

      @Stonyboot 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you. We love our Cirrus, its home to us now! VIP Kid is an online platform for teaching English and it's huge! They are scratches!!!! Luckily, they are just surface scratches caused by some very stiff woody plants in the desert. We went down some dirt roads, that led to, smaller dirt roads, that led to a place we didn't want to be. Took about 2 hours to get out and we incurred all of those scratches in the process. We hope we can just buff and polish them out, fingers crossed!

    Great tour! Lovely couple. It’s shocking how much space is in these truck campers. I am curious about pros and cons vs van though. Of course, having a truck available when the camper is freestanding, but if you don’t need a truck I’m not sure I understand the advantages? Would be great to see a pro/con video.

      Jayne Price that would be fun! We looked into getting a van awhile ago, but we realized that there’s just not enough space for both of us. Since we work and travel full time we really needed that extra room. We also like the 4 WD for our boondocking adventures.😅 What we like bout vans though is the size that allows you to park in tighter spots and be less “visible”, since it’s “just a van”, not a “camper”. What do you have for a van?
